Recently my better 3/4 decided that she must have a new oven. As the recipient of the delights that come with this purchase - i.e. great grub and a properly happy wife - I obliged. Now, SWMBO also decided that an induction hob was the way forward as it is supposed to be as good as gas but much easier to clean the top of the oven. And of course, this necessitated the wholesale replacement of our pots and pans as they are of a vintage before snazzy new induction tops became popular. And luckily we got this to review as well, so whislt not exactly saving my wallet a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, any small contribution is welcome.First off, lets get the one thing you must have when buying a pan for an induction hob. That's a dished bottom. Yes, the pot or pan should have a slight hollow in the centre. This is because an induction hob works best with a pan in close contact and what has to happen is that when the pan starts to heat up and expand, it should then flaten out. If you don't have this 'dish' in the middle, the pan will expand and then it will slightly lift and then reduce in effectiveness.I can happily report that this pan does indeed have a slight dip in the middle as required. It is welll made. In fact, very well made with a nice bit of heft to it but not so much that it is unwieldy. The coating is robust and for us so far been perfect giving all the attributes of a non stick surface. Of course my wife is very particular about not using steel impliments on a non-stick surface and if I went anywhere near it with a knife or similar my life would be forfeight. I know when not to step over the limits, I can tell you.Anyway, a very well made stir fry pan that works well as a wok on an induction hob. Not as good as a gas one no matter what you read, but pretty close.

We cook a lot of curries and stir-fry dishes in our house so we were very pleased to be able to try this useful pan from Tefal. This wok-like design of stir-fry pan can be used for cooking many Asian-style dishes such as Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Chinese as well as for typical English fry-ups. This 28cm model by Tefal is made from aluminium and combines the best of traditional design with a tough non-stick finish that can be used on all hobs, including induction, and is also easy to clean being dishwasher-safe. Although looking similar to a Chinese wok this Tefal pan is subtly different in that it has a flat base – but you can cook many Chinese dishes in it perfectly.Although ideal for Oriental cuisine this pan can also be used just as easily for traditional British stews or for frying, should your guests not be curry-lovers, and it features Tefal's famous Thermo-Spot heat indicator for perfect searing. Part of Tefal's robust Brut range this very useful C2641902 stone-effect stir-fry pan is designed and manufactured in France, and is recommended for a cooking a wide range of dishes on the hob.

I've used this not only for stirfry but this morning I did the best fluffiest scrambled eggs EVER. And the pan just wiped clean. You only have to touch the inside surface to know its almost frictionless. This pan has the necessary bottom to work on an induction hob; however I used it on a traditional British Gas Stove with 4 hobs. It has a bit of weight to it but by no means did it feel too heavy to hold one handed.Obviously you need to use wooden or nylon tools in it but I can see this pan becoming a firm favourite when I cook up something quick and tasty. One misgiving? Like many pans whose handles are fixed with a single screw I detected a teensy teensy wobble when shaking the pan from the handle. Not the only pan that does that and its pretty secure but...well, y'know?Durability: 5 stars anyway, Tefal pans are the business and I have 100% faith in them. Treat the pan ell and this one seems good for a lifetime. Not the cheapest but at the end of the day pans are a cooks tools. Buy expensive tools, you cry when you pay out. Buy cheap ones and you cry every time you use them. This wok is worth it.

It wouldn’t be too much of an exaggeration to say this item has revolutionised the way we cook, so that we have exchanged watery boiled veg for tastier, healthier stir-fried ones. We have found it tricky to find a wok that works on our ceramic hob, but this has been profiled to work on all kinds of hob, even induction. It features a red central spot that heats up fast on a high hob setting and is ready to brown or sear meat etc on the central flat section in seconds. Food that does not need to be seared at the same time can be pushed onto the sides for a gentler heat or added later. The non-stick surface is brilliant – everything slides off and it really only needs a quick wipe (I don't think we will ever put it in the dishwasher)and my wife can cook with her one-cal spray or even dry-fry without fear of anything sticking. It also looks so attractive and professional. Despite its sturdiness it is not heavy to lift, either.Anything that can get my son to eat courgettes (and other healthy veg) gets my vote!

This is a pretty light, but well-made wok/deep-dish pan. Tefal are well-known too (and the pan is backed by a 2-year guarantee), so it's not a risky purchase. The pan is exactly how it appears in the image, so there's really not much to say here. The non-stick coating is effective, and while it's dishwasher safe, you're advised to use it with liquid or gel-based cleansers rather than e.g. granulated tablets. The handle isn't metal, so you can't place the whole thing in the oven either, but it's otherwise suitable for gas, electric or induction hobs.As a minor gripe, although it's touted as a stir-fry pan/wok, it's not supplied with a lid of any kind, which I think would increase its usefulness. It's quite deep and could hold over a litre of sauce or liquids too, and a lid would make it more versatile still for e.g. cooking a curry or sauces. I've used it in exactly this way to cook some soup from first principles, and it worked well.

This is a great feeling pan - I mean it's heavy! - but not too heavy - it just feels like quality - it is high quality non-stick with a red 'thermo spot' which aims to tell you when the pan has reached the optimum temperature for cooking - the spot looks a little like a dark red flower with small lighter red petals around it's extremity which disappear when the correct heat is achieved - this is very handy and could also save energy by avoiding needlessly over-heating the pan. In testing it indeed remained non-stick throughout the cooking and I had only used perhaps a teaspoon of oil - in the past (with other woks) my attempts at StirFry have tended to result in a congealed lump burnt to the bottom of the pan but with this pan/wok I can only see a crisp, freely moving, healthy StirFry future! It is relatively expensive but if you treat it right this pan could last you a very long time.....

Tefal C2641902 Brut Stone Effect Stir-Fry Pan, BlackThe pan. This is made of thick aluminium with a special mineral based non-stick coating.Design.It is a lot deeper than other wok or deep pans we have. It is superbly made and the non-stick surface will really last (we have had a Tefal pot with this non-stick in it and it has had a lot of use and abuse and it has never peeled off like Teflon does). The handle is long and ergonomic making the pan easy to pick up and handle even when full.It has Tefal thermo spot temperature indicator as well – this tells you the pan has reached your desired heat. Ideal for flash frying.Cleaning.It is so easy to clean. It is dish washer safe.Overall.It may be expensive but it is built to last and is very nice to use.

I have been using Tefal pans for years and they make the best frying pans and casseroles that I have used. They last well, they are very non-stick and easy to clean. This new Brut stone-effect is the same high quality as usual but it looks like it is going to be even more hard wearing (on average my pans last about 10 years but they get some serious mistreatment). This is a stir fry pan which means it has a wok shape and taller sides. The metal is thick and the non-stick surface is very tough. Underneath there are metal grooves to make heating faster and there is the ubiquitous red spot to tell you when then frying pan is ready to use.I look forward to using this pan for many years in the future.

I love this pan! It is the most versatile one I own - fry, stir-fry, saute, stew. It's big at 28cm and formed from heavy gauge aluminium, but it's not too heavy which is good. It has a larger flat bottom than a pure wok, but having the high wok-like sides makes it great for turning stir-fries. The Tefal mineralised non-stick is superb, you don't need much oil, and it's so easy to wash up. The pan is oven-safe up to 175C with the bakelite handle, another useful feature for finishing off dishes. It has the Tefal Thermo Spot to tell you when it's up to temp for frying etc. Despite the 2 yr guarantee, I'm treating my pan carefully as I'm enjoying cooking with it so much.

I was seriously impressed with this wok. It worked perfectly on an induction hob. The anti-stick coating covers the inside and and the sides of the pan and works beautifully, making it very easy to cook with and a cinch to clean. The Thermospot lets you know when you're ready to go and the handle is nicely shaped. The whole thing is nicely weighed, it's nice and deep and it feels made to last. It's nice to buy something still made in the home country too - I buy British when I can but it's still nice to see a pan made in France instead of China.Overall I can't criticise this pan - it lives up to all its claims for a fair price. Recommended.

I like the depth of this pan, you stir fry loads without it spilling out over the edge. It has the Teflon `Red spot` which when the pan is hot enough to start cooking changes from red and black spot to completely red. I find this useful as very often I start cooking before my pan reaches its heat.It has a heavy base which evenly distributes the heat around the pan.The pan is black speckled with silver both inside and out , gives the pan an appealing look which I really like. It does have a plastic handle so the pan cannot go in the oven. After I finished using it this pan was exceptionally easy to clean, the food residue just slid off.

This is a top-notch wok. It is tefal, which means it has a non stick surface. If you are the kind of person that likes to whack the pan with metal utensils, do not go for this one, you will ruin it in no time. If you are more gentle (use a wooden spoon!) then this will be great and will last for ever. It is large, for a good quantity of food and space to stir. It is well balanced (admittedly heavy). It has a nice handle. It will work on all surfaces including induction. The only thing I don't like is the colour of the inside (spotty) which means that seeing some detail on the food when frying may be tricky. A top pan nonetheless

21.11.2018

Best way to describe this is a deep sided pan similar to a wok. Great for stir fries and the like where you need to keep things moving, it saves the spills all over the cooker top. It's a heavy-ish pan but not excessively so and with the high sides can even be used as a wide topped saucepan if that were needed.I really like this as, many years ago, I saw a professional making 'the-perfect-omlette' in a pan such as this and= try as I might I've never managed to do it as well - until now.Recommended

Just used this on the Aga, which can have a temperamental relationship with frying pans. However, it heated up well, and is not too heavy, compared to our cast iron alternative, which needs a fork lift to move off the warmer. However, unlike its cast iron cupboard companion, this has a plastic handle, so cannot be used in either of the main ovens. It is a nice deep pan, probably about 5cm deep, and supposedly can be used on any hob. After cooking, it washes up really easily.Pleased with the pan.

This is a superb pan.Tefal are a long standing trusted brand for good reason, they make some superb products. This has to be up there as one of the best pans I've used to date.Aluminium and mineral it is easily the bets thing I've cooked in. Teflon is ok but over time it scratches and flakes off. This is much better. Better heat distribution, better cleaning and better durability.Pans like this are a great investment in your cooking and also the environment.
