I have purchased a similar item to this before but the cups and main insert were made of a heavy duty plastic which lasted around 4 years with regular use. Hopefully by ordering a coated carbon steel one, it will last even longer. You only need to fill up the pan with less than half of water. This can be cold or boiling water from the kettle. However, personally I have found the way to perfect eggs (we all have our preferences) is to make sure the water is boiling (steaming) before you put the eggs in the cups. Whilst the poacher is steaming, squirt some fry light or put some oil/butter in the cups. Remember to take the poacher slightly off the heat or you risk being scalded by the boiling steam and then crack your eggs in to the cups.Return the poacher to the hotplate (I have a halogen hob) replace the lid and let the poacher do its work. Its trial and error on how long you leave the eggs in. Until you get it right, you can lift the lid off to have a look at the consistency of the eggs. When cooked, remove the poacher from the heat and use a cloth to pick up the cups by the handle as these get hot. Slide your eggs out with a silicone utensil or a teaspoon and enjoy. The pan is easy to clean as you can wipe over the cups (if no egg white is left) with a piece of kitchen towel.

I bought this egg poaching pan for use with an Induction Hob.Using it on Induction I can guarruntee that the handle does not get hot.Nor does the handle on the glass lid. Be careful when removing lid that your arm or hand does not get in the path of the steam jet and that you remove the lid by angling it so that the steam in the pan escapes away from your face. Steam is hot. The poaching cups have small knobs for lifting cup. Be careful when washing and drying, not to bend these as they will interfere with the integrity of the poaching cup if they are bent when placed in the pan. (I have bent them accidentaly and straigtened them with out apparent weakening of them).I have found that greasing the cups with buter or spread is better than oil.Lightly grease them and break egg in to them. Bring water to simmering point and with the cups in the retaining tray lower on to the pan and cover with lid. (Position lifting buttons away from steam vents but be careful when removing as they can get hot) Five minutes simmering for a large egg produced a really good poached egg properly cooked with a soft yoke. Excellent value for money

Having used little poaching bags and found them to be fiddly and messy I decided it was high time I invested in a proper poaching pan. I needed one for an induction hob and this is the perfect pan for just such a beast. The whole thing is really well made with a good sturdy feel to it. The pan itself is non stick doubling up as a saute pan , and the little metal cups, each of which has a little round handle, are also non stick. The inner part which holds the cups has a central knob which is perfect for lifting the whole thing in or out of the pan, with cups loaded or not. I've never seen this before in a poaching pan, and I think is a really handy addition. The heavy glass lid, which is vented, has a robust handle on the top of it; the handle of both pan and lid remain cool during use. And finally, the whole lot is dishwasher safe. What more could you want?I'm am delighted with this pan and hope to be poaching eggs in it for many years. Just wish I'd bought it sooner instead of messing about with those paper poaching pod things

I was having a new Beko HII64400AT induction hob installed to replace our gas hob. This meant replacing our egg poacher since the old one is made of aluminium. I bought this one on the strength of the information given in this Web page. When I filled the pan with water and placed on any of the rings then the hob didn't compain - it detected an induction compatible product (i.e. it did NOT show an underlined "u" symbol to indicate that there might be a problem); however, the water never boiled - it just sat there with the hob switching the ring on an off quite rapidly. Clearly this product in not compatible with the Beko induction hob. I contacted Amazon and we arranged a refund without any hassles. This may well work with other induction hobs if you are prepared to take the risk. Otherwise, this is a nicely designed egg poacher (although I burnt my fingers, as usual, getting the eggs out) and I'm having trouble finding an equally well-designed stainless steel alternative.

I have recently purchased this product, and find it absolutely superb. To make perfect poached eggs every time, I put 2 pints of water in the pan, bring it to the boil, lightly grease egg cups with butter, (I have found from experience that butter is much more reliable than oil) weigh your eggs, this is important, and use four roughly the same weight, as a 65gm egg will cook well, but if you have a 70gm egg with you may find this underdone. I have a gas hob, so cook the eggs on the smallest ring at maximum for 5 1/2 minutes, then turn out onto toast or smoked haddock, for a perfect breakfast.Every hob is different, so you may have to adjust power or cooking times on your appliance, but these guidelines give me perfecly poached eggs every time.Susan M Cooper.La Union Spain.

Used to use a microwave egg poacher, but they're just not the same - the eggs always came out too rubbery, and it was hard to judge the right amount of time (and often some eggs were fully done and others not yet done!) - so decided it was high time to buy myself a tradiional poacher pan.Decided to pay the little extra for this one with proper non-stick coated metal cups rather than cheaper ones with plastic cups, and I'm glad I did - it's solid, very easy to clean, and works a treat. I've used it probably 10-15 times so far and no sign of any issues with the non-stick coating, and it's still looking as-new. Will try to update this review again in a few months to indicate longevity, but at this point all looks good and I'm very happy with my purchase.

This is an excellent poacher. I can't comment on the longevity of the product, as I've only had it for a little while, but it's produced perfect poached eggs every time I've used it, even the very first time! I took note of what other reviewers advised and I can confirm that bringing the water to the boil and then turning it down to half-temperature, adding a little bit of butter to each tray and cooking with the lid on for 5 minutes will result in a large egg, straight from the fridge, being perfectly poached with the white cooked through and the yolk still runny. I used a pair of tongs to lift each tray out and tip the egg onto the toast - very simple to do, and no sticking whatsoever. No more watery eggs, messy saucepans and tedious stirring!

I read many reviews on poachers before purchasing. Some were not happy on the features on this product even though it looked good, but I took the chance anyway. The egg holders are metal with a non stick finish however you do need to light oil them before use. I read about the lid not fitting correctly. This isn't true and I suspect operator fault. If you turn the knobs on the egg holders into the middle everything works well. I have an induction hob and found that if you bring the water to the boil then reduce the heat to the mid position no 5 place the tray with the eggs and holders in and fit the lid all the eggs come out excellent. As a review mentioned use an egg timer and you get perfect eggs every time.

Very pleased with this. Non stick metal cups AND they take very large eggs. The cups sit flat on a kitchen surface, not like the round bottomed plastic ones that roll round your kitchen .All seems to fit together well. The tiny handles on each cup are fiddly, but far from a deal breaker. I wipe round the cup with a bit of paper towel with oil before pouring in the egg, but I'm not sure if you need to.So take out however many cups you need. Pour in boiling water and turn on the heat. Wipe round the cup with oiled paper, few grinds of pepper, sprinkle of chives and parsley, pour in the egg and place into the poacher. Five and a half minutes later, perfect poached eggs.

Whilst smaller than I had anticipated, the item caters well for our large eggs.Instructions are clear. The results were pleasing however we did over cook on our first attempt; and I ate half before I took a photo.Other than the fact that the small handles on the individual cups were bent slightly upon arrival due to the way the product is packed by the manufacturer, causing a tiny scuff on the top of the holder, losing this product one star; this is a mighty fine product that can be used as a pan for boiling or sauté.Tricky to get the eggs out at the end, we found a wooden / silicone spoon that's flexible at the spoon end to be good.

I decided to buy this just because my Nan had one and I was feeling nostalgic. I love poached eggs, but dropping them in hot water can sometimes be a little hit and miss. I moved on to the cling film method, which was great but sometimes the white would stick to the cling film when taking out the eggs. This pan is a little beauty... used it everyday this week- and since McDonald’s has been shut I’ve even replicated one of my favourite breakfast items ☺️ Just slightly grease the cup before dropping in the egg.. 3 minutes to runny yolk perfection. Well worth the money, perfect eggs, perfect shape. Bon appetite!!

This is one of my favorite purchases for my new flat. It poaches super fast and when it's just me, I can poach one egg for breakfast each morning and have no cleanup for 4 days since the water stays fresh and clean! When I first tried, the egg stuck a bit, but i just sprayed a tiny amount of oil on the cup and it worked beautifully. My other trick is to put seasoning in the cup before the egg - fresh herbs, a little salt and pepper, even some cheese - and poach together for a tidy breakfast sandwich in no time.Plus you can take the poacher out and it doubles as a saucepan.

Had to buy a replacement for my previous one as I had melted the plastic egg holders oops! This product is excellent! Well made and is metal, this will last for many years and I have even taken it on holiday with us! I like my yolk runny and white set and find boiling the kettle adding water to the pan and putting on the stove simmering before adding eggs and cooking for four minutes achieves this! The only thing buyers need to be aware of is when removing the egg holder after cooking the little handles are very hot so I have to use a tea cloth to remove and get the egg out.

Really glad I didn't buy one of the cheaper pans as this one is really good. If you follow the instructions & wipe just a small amount of olive oil in the cups, the eggs slide out easily. Mine were cooked in the 5 mins as expected, although the next time I use it, I will turn the heat down a little as the yolks were not as runny as I would have liked. I found they just held the large eggs I used, but wouldn't expect an extra large one to fit. I didn't find the cups fiddly to remove from the pan & I have sausage fingers. All-in-all a good buy & I would recommend.

This makes making poached eggs so simple. Before purchasing this, I was using a small plastic, two egg, microwavable contraption. I had to hover around the microwave, interrupting the set time regularly, as it would regularly 'pop' and explode the eggs inside the microwave. To use this you just add a few inches of water, and crack eggs into each 'pod'. I usually coat each 'pod' with some butter/spread and the egg just slides out. I like my yolks firm so leave it simmering away for around 5 mins. Would definitely recommend.
