I've had this bag for 9 months and I've got mixed feelings on it after using it every day in that 9 month period :)I love the way it's layout out, I think a couple more smaller mesh pockets would have been nice, instead of having the main compartment, the laptop section, the small front section and then a bit in-between the front and main parts, I would have preferred a larger main compartment! The aforementioned 'middle bit' seems like an unnecessary addition to the bag, I find it useless and have never managed find a purpose for it.Other than the above parts I do really like this bag, using it to carry all of my tech goodies around with me every day is great!I had a messenger style Targus from a good 6 years ago and it was doing the same until I got rid of my laptop :) So I opted to get a 'standard' backpack and landed here, the cost is definitely a fair amount for a bag, but I almost feel like I'm getting my money's worth..That almost... I was really loving it until the start of this week, when I lifted it onto my shoulder and heard a tearing noise... I almost hoped it was my jacket, unfortunately it was the bag. Just underneath the (really strong btw) carry handle next to a zip, there is now a 2" tear.. It's not really a repairable rip either.. So I'm not sure what to do with it :PI almost definitely can't get away with an RMA, it's just standard wear and tear I guess, I think I'm just disappointed that such a high quality product can suffer so easily from damage after only 9 months. Just putting it out there, I'm extremely careful with anything I use and I don't think I've ever flung this bag around :)Other than that I'd say it's a great bag, just don't expect it to last years :(

I'm normally put off by any adverse reviews, but this was a lightning deal and I took the risk. 'Course, this was only £22 when lightning deals were good deals - not like the poor imitation that we've seen this year.Aware that others had issues with the stiching I've always been careful with a full load to wear the bag properly on both shoulders. When carrying use I've tended to use the heavy duty strap on the back rather than one of the shoulder harnesses. In doing so I haven't had any problems with the stiching. The bag has been in use pretty much every working day since purchase two years ago and it's been an ideal solution. Given the surpising amount of compartments the bag offers, its easily configurable for the most OCD of users. I find the smaller, fleece lined compartment at the top of the bag to be ideal for quick access to ID badges and headpones. The main internal comparment has a velcro strap to further secure your laptop. I have found that if you bring the main compartment zips together at the top area of the bag, then the weight of the bag can pull the zips apart and expose the inside, so yes, use the strap. I've adapted to this problem by ensuring that the zips are closed fully either to the left or right of the bag. After two years of use the bag is still looking good and the material on the base isn't scuffing or tearing.I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing this bag again if it for sale up to the £40 mark. With it currently in the £50 region I would check out and consider the competition. In conclusion, a very good bag that I have had no issues with in terms of quality. Haven't given it the full five given the fact that the main zips can come undone under load.

Nice large practical backpack. There are two zipped pockets on either side, as well as two mesh pockets. The front has a small pouch at the front that I use for headphones. The next pouch is a stationery one, with a zipped portion as well as elastic to hold pencils and pens in place. There are also a variety of smaller pouches for storing other pieces of equipment. The next pouch on the front is a large deep one. Despite the look on the picture that makes it appear to be a single pouch it reaches to the bottom of the bag. I personally use this one for my specialist kit and it fits snugly. The next pouch is the largest one of raw space. It is a wide pocket that reaches to the bottom of the bag.Ample space to keep a lunch box in there. The pouch at the back is split into three. There is a zipped mesh portion, around three inches deep perfect for a wireless mouse. The large portion is split into two, intended for laptops and books. One of the sections has an elastic velcro tab over the top to hold the laptop in place. On the back of the backpack on the bottom (the portion that rests on your back) can be unzipped to allow for further storage. The bag has ample storage, however I give it four stars as the bag often crumples without anything in it. A backpack this well designed I would like to see a solid base and potentially back to keep the structure of the backpack when empty.

I saw this on another commuter on my regular train a couple of times and thought I'd check it out to compare with my existing bag. It's larger than another Targus back I bought amongst a bunch of others, with more useful pockets: the side pockets are tall enough to contain a 500ml water bottle and small umbrella without squeezing and still leaving the elasticated open areas on the outside; the main pocket is large enough to carry boots, whilst leaving the PC pocket for your electronics. Plenty of other pockets with divisions and velcro for all your bits 'n' bobs.A big plus over the previous one is that the base is flexible and rubberised, so that it does not crease and crack like the plasticised base of the other. It doesn't have a waist strap, so less rubbing around the back and the large hip pad/pocket helps leave a gap to improve air flow. The combination of base, pad and distribution of pockets/handle helps it sit upright & square on the ground, so it's less likely to flop over. Very good design all round.I'm looking forward to further use as a lightweight commuting bag as well as weekly commuting bag to take stuff back home to Spain.I may well be buying another as a reserve, as long as it lasts at least the next month or two. Please don't buy it, to help make sure that there's another left for me. :)

I was looking for a bag big enough to take not just a laptop and cables but also all the kit I need to survive as an "Agile" worker in a world of hot desks and no permanent base. The Targus Drifter lets me lug (all this stuff isn't the lightest) a 15 inch laptop, charger, big bag of cables and connectors, iPad, day book and papers, a bunch of pens, staplers, scissors etc, with room for my lunch, tea bags and insulated mug - all the essentials. Still got room for other stuff, including a MacBook for creative days when the work Windows machine isn't enough. And it looks pretty good too, if a little large compared the original HP bag that came with the laptop, but that could only just take the charger and nothing else. This bag has loads of pockets so I can keep everything organised, still not using some of them!Been using this for a month and it seems up to the usual pretty good manufacturing standards I've come to expect from Targus - this is my third bag (others sold on, not fallen apart). All in all seems like a good choice at a good price if you have a reasonable amount of kit and papers you want to carry around and keep organised.

This bag was bought for a college student, to replace a much-loved and rapidly disintegrating one. We had the very specific requirement that it had to be able to transport a laptop safely (unlike the previous one, which had led to scratches all over the machine.I had seen another by this manufacturer, and thought that this would be the same. There is a little 'but' in here - it was not the same as the one I saw, and in this one the laptop compartment is in the middle of the bag rather than right at the back. Given that it is also used for transporting art materials all day every day, this necessitated a much greater degree of care in packing than if we only had one side of the laptop to worry about.Having said that,it is a great bag. It is strong (even the top handle is made of wire under the padded coating), and all the handles seem well attached. It has endless pockets, and so much space that if you fill it, there is a real danger that you won't be able to lift it!

This is my second and I am very pleased it is still available. The first lasted for 3 years and all zips and straps still servicable after being used every week however the corners had worn through which may have been due to spending 500miles every week in a motorcycle top box. I used this to commute with two laptops, power supplies weekly necessities and tools for IT equipment including books cables sandwiches and it can hold 2 pints of milk in the zip up side pocket which was one of my requirements. It was often stuffed to the seams yet handled very well and was comfortable to carry on my back.It has enough pockets and sections for holding smaller items and the upper zip compartment on the outside extends down to the base of the bag behind the lower compartment and useful for stuffing gloves and hat for winter, the odd cable while headphone case sits above.Well done Targus and please continue to manufacture this bag to the same specifications.

I love this bag! It is very well fabricated, the main material seems to be that sturdier well made material not the flimsier stuff you get on cheap bags. Like a child with a new toy I just packed it with all the stuff I foresee using it for and these things didn't even make a dent in its capacity - a large 16" Toshiba laptop, an ipad in a thick case with keyboard, all the cables for the laptop and ipad, and then the obvious phone and cards etc. There seems to be a perfect place for everything, but my favourite two things are the very sturdy top handle that has a strip of thick wire going through it and which is fixed to the bag with some heavy duty metal rivets, and this well placed softy lined semi-shallow pocket on the top, not at the side, a place where you could put your phone and/or glasses/sun glasses for easy quick access. Perfect bag as far as I can see, even has a waterproof bottom.

I purchased this laptop rucksack as a replacement for one I had been using for a while. I am completely delighted with it. The quality is excellent, there is a padded pocket for your IT equipment (I have a 15" MBP which comfortably fits along with an iPad and on occasion, a second laptop). You can also get enough clothes into the other pockets for a 2 day trip and still have space for everything else...There is a hidden pocket at the back which is ideal for travel docs, ID and so on as well as the usual organiser pocket on the front and a very useful soft-lined pocket in the top, ideal for phone or sunglasses. As a frequent traveler on airplanes,I can vouch that it fits under the seat in front when required (except when really jammed full).I have had several laptop rucksacks over the years and this is by far the best so far.

Fantastic bag for the price. I've had this bag a year now and I've only had one problem with it. I wearing it for everything, and have been using it almost everyday. It works well for normal use and travel purposes. It protects my laptop really well and is very comfortable to wear. It also had ample space for clothes and books or whatever you want to store in it. The top pocket is perfect for a little digital camera, which is where I store mine and the pocket at your back is great for storing and external hard drive for your laptop. The only issue I had with it was that the seem on one of the front pockets came out after about 4 or 5 months of use meaning there was a hole between the sip and material but a quick session of sewing meant it was back to being as good as new.Overall a fantastic bag and I would recommend.

Having had a previous targus bag I had struggled to get a replacement trying Swiss and sports brands however these both fell apart very quickly. I purchased this bag hoping to get the same quality of its predecessor and it has not dissapointed, it is rugged and built to handle a decent load while keeping my laptop, tablet and phone safe.It has a massive array of pockets suitable for all my geek needs and some nice internal padding for my items with screens (11" tablet and 7" tablet"It is incredibly well made with zips, handle (containing tensile wire) and straps all being built to last.Good Job Targus for an excellent quality bag at a very reasonable price for the standard which is incredibly high.A+++ on this one, would highly recommend it for anyone who wants decent size and a very hard wearing bag !

Nearly 2 years on and the bag is still going strong despite abuse over that time. Straps still all solid, no tears at all. Bag gets thrown around in motorcycle topbox a lot, gets stuffed til it is over full and has put up with all the mistreatment.Original review -Really happy with purchase. Lots of handy pockets, Especially the one built into the back which adds some security for carrying wallets/papers etc. Useful padded pocket at top with quick access for phone/glasses/etc. Nice big pocket for laptop or tablet. All feels will made. Bonus of having a waterproof base so when you put it down you know your contents wont get soaked. Shoulder straps seem OK though others have reported problems with them.Bought through the black Friday sales so I paid nothing like the full asking price.

Some items it is fine to review them quickly as they either work or they don't, but for something like this backpack I thought it was probably better to wait and see how well it stood up to my daily commute for a while before commenting on it.After a month of daily use, I am so far finding this backpack to be as comfortable as my previous one that had lasted about 4-5 years and the layout of the compartments is generally better, albeit the top pocket could do with being a bit bigger as it seems to cap out at being big enough for a kindle but not a comfortable size for a smallish tablet in a case.Other than that slight issue and my tendency to forget when I have put things into the little pocket behind one of the bits of backpack padding,I have no real complaints with this item.

I have been looking for a small Ruc that I can use to carry a few days spare clothing, a laptop, a iPad, a compact camera and small accessories. This backpack meets these requirements and more, I like the fact it has padded storage pockets which are great for small electronic items such as a camera, smartphone and of course a laptop. The shoulder straps are nice and comfortable which is a great feature considering the weight I carry plus there is lumber support built in and as a back pain sufferer this provide me more comfort than any previous Ruc I have owned.I was lucky enough to get this as part of the Black Friday discount offer but the original price is still great value for money.By the way it is not mentioned anywhere that I could see,but this Ruc is 32 litre in size.

I was looking for a backpack to carry all my it and office equipment because I work away on long assignments and need a makeshift mobile office with me at all times. I was also looking for a backpack that would be able to carry extra items like a week worth of clothes along with my 'mobile office.' This one allows me to do both! :). I initially came across the backpack in john Lewis selling for £105 and wrote down the specifications and found it here on Amazon at less than half price. I've had it for a few months and used it to travel to different locations. It's perfect to be used as hand luggage on flights or as a backpack when away for a couple of days. Best of all,it doesn't look like a laptop bag and is very comfortable to wear when extremely full. Top buy!
