This is basically a £35-40 bottle of whiskey. Yes I know the RRP is £50 something but it's on "offer" so much of the time it's hard not to see it as its real price. At that price point it offers excellent value for money. The whiskey is single grain - rather than single malt which for some reason has been taken as less prestigious over the years. The terms become terribly muddled - the majority of single malt whiskey drinkers think it means only one malt whiskey is used. This is not true - a single malt just means malt whiskey is used from one distillery. The single grain whiskey by contrast is the whiskey from one distillery - but not necessarily just malted barley,it may have whiskey made from other cereals (malted or unmalted) too. There is no reason that this makes an inferior whiskey - it can be, with the right blender a more interesting whiskey with a lot more character.Given this perception, I think this is why you get such great value for money from this whiskey. Compared to the Yamazaki single malt, it's certainly fresher and lighter, but also has some interesting slightly earthy tones. This is far too good to be served as a cocktail whiskey. I take it neat - but could accept on the rocks (just!).

I'm only not giving it a five because I'm holding it to a high standard vs other Japanese whiskies I've tried, which to be fair are usually £15-20 more expensive per bottle. When it's on offer £30-35 it's certainly worth buying. I think it's a bit over rated at £50 for what it is though. It's a very nice whisky, smooth, nice taste and easy to drink but lacks the more complex flavours of a Yamazaki or Hakushu.I've had 3-4 bottles over the years though and it's always a safe bet when on offer.

I'm not usually a fan of grain whiskies but took a chance on this one and it was a very pleasant surprise. The nose is sweet and nutty. I hesitate to say marzipan as the nut influences are less pronounced than that. The taste is honey with walnuts (a sense of the oak casks) and just a hint of cinnamon. It feels very Christmasy and will make a great winter sup.The finish is gentle with just a little smoke. All in all it is a smooth and very drinkable whisky!

Mellow with a wonderful vanilla after taste. This is one of the best Japanese whiskey that I've tasted in a long time.I'd love to go and shake the producers hand for crafting such a delicacy. My brother in law who drinks only "Men in dresses" whiskey has been turned by the brilliant pallette of this well crafted and perfectly flavoured creation. No more Highland water for me, but whiskey from the land of the rising sun.

So The Chita - Suntory is an excellent whisky and considering this is coming from a scotch enthusiast you really have to take that as an incredible compliment. The only downfall for me is not the quality or flavour profile, it's the price - at the £45-50 price range I'd rather go for the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban or something similar, that said this is just my preference.

I'm a big fan of this grain whisky - perfectly balanced heavy and light esters in here. It's a showcase of Japanese craftsmanship - deliciously complex. But be forewarned - this is a grain whisky perfect for a Highball cocktail and not one of the flavourful single malts (get a Yamazaki or Hakushu if that's your desire).

This Japanese whisky is sooooo delicious, I am evangelising about it to everyone I know because I love it . My previous favourite whisky was Hibiki 17 (which is too expensive now) but I think this might be even better! The bottle looks unassuming but once I'd tasted it I was a convert, it just tastes like coconut

Very different to the Scotch whiskies I've been "testing" over the years. This has low bassy tones, a strong hint of vanilla and perhaps almonds. Lovey pale hue and a smooth finish that won't have you wincing. Distinctive and classy, well worth a treat from time to time.

Very smooth yet complex flavour. I got it for my husband from the duty free and he loved it so I ordered another one from Amazon. I think it makes a great gift for people who like to explore something different. The quality is great and I definitely recommend it.

I drank this neat and in a highball. Neat, it served as a lovely light drop but really came into its own in a highball with soda and lots of ice - refreshing, clean, almost with a popcorn like flavour but still retaining its complexity. Well worth the money!

This was purchased as a gift for my partner however even as I'm not a huge whisky fan I need to admit the taste is really good, smooth and delicate and not too strong and burning like different branded ones. Definitely recommend every whisky fan to taste

Starting drinking it a while ago and it's now a regular go-to whisky. Has some great flavours (honey, spice and other subtleties) - highly recommended. Works when you just want a drink at the end of the day and works if you want a more involved evening!

Bought as a gift for Christmas and went down very well. The bottle comes in a nice presentation box and looks like a quality product. I'm not a whisky drinker so can't comment on the taste other than to say that those drinking it were very appreciative.

I kept hearing about these Japanese Whiskeys so i decided to try this one. It was is very nice and i have been enjoying it. If i spent the same money on my favourite Scotch i may enjoy it a little more but its nice to have a variety.

Nose: honey suckle, fresh grass, youthful.Palate: sweet and salty, light and little complexity.Finish: medium with a little heat. This whisky commands a premium because it's Japanese. I would buy again but only if £40 or less.
