Let me begin by saying, Namco have really came back from the ropes with this latest entry into the Soul series. After finding V to be somewhat mixed, I was really surprised to hear of a sixth game, being a fan of the series since III I knew I had to jump in and give this a try. I'm really happy to say that it's a welcome return to form. The choice of single player modes varies quite well with your usual Individual character entries to a huge new mode called Libra of Souls where you create a custom character and embark on a Journey around the world in a new and unique take on the classic "Tale of Two Swords" story that'll see you teaming up with series regulars and their new companions as you help them on missions and they return the favour, spanning the globe from Athens to Iran and much more (As an example, I was playing last night and happened to bump into Talims cousin at the wind shrines, before leaving to meet up with Xianghua as she went on an adventure with Kilik across Asia, all the while meeting interesting side characters who were either willing to help me or hunt me down depending on who I stumbled across)You learn a lot about the world in the 14th century as well as you go along, it is really engrossing and fun finding out all the little details, which helps add layers to an already deep story. Even the mini quests to help people in need can be great, it isn't all "go here, catch the bad guys" anymore, it's more like "help me out with these bandits and I'll become your best friend, helping you get new gear at shops while teaching you a history lesson" To me that's a wonderful addition as I love this kind of thing.Onto another strong point of VI, the return of the classic characters we all know and love. From Sophitia to Talim and Nightmare and Maxi, the gang is all here and on top form. They're joined by a couple of newcomers which are actually really cool, Groth and Azwel, who are a mysterious duo. Want to know more? Play and find out, its worth a shot.As for the collectors edition of VI, this one I knew I needed to get because I'm a series veteran and long time fan. Included in the package you'll find the game itself, an artbook full of cool concepts, and a copy of the games soundtrack which in itself is amazing. Wait for it, there's a bonus though if you happen to be a fan of Sophitia .One of the coolest characters in the series, if you like her, you'll probably really like owning the custom made statue of her included in the bundle, I haven't unboxed her yet and I'm not going to as I want to keep her in good condition to add to my collection of video game action figures. Yes the CE price is a bit steep, at $100 but, Namco have done such a good job here that I'd say its 100% worth a purchase if you can get one while they're around. To sum up, SC6 is a much needed return to form for the series as a whole, I'm loving my first of many playthroughs. The Sword shines brightly as it returns from the ropes fighting against the tide and holding its own to possibly reclaim the crown as the top Fighting game of the genre, I gave Soul Five a seven at best, but this?Soul Calibur Six has to be the best yet, earning a rare but deserved 10/10Fans will love it, I know I do.

This brings the series back to its roots in many a regard, I feel it prudent to note that I've not had a large quantity of time to invest yet, I'll update the review at some point with views that reflect that. The game graphics are significantly improved over its predecessor, as have many elements, such as the combat mechanics, which have received a level or refinement with additional elements such as a counter clash system and what one can only define as "9000" mode, if you've ever played BlazBlue, it's extremely similar to the overdrive system; the former being a rock, paper, scissors formula which enables a level of both cinematic and tactical opportunities. The games has several modes.Themain campaign - This covering the events of the story and giving you a overview of the timeline to boot, lacking cutscenes at times, filled with a plethora of text. however it is extremely nostalgic and a significant improvement over SCV.Adventure mode - This is the main attraction, allowing you to create your own custom character from a robust selection of races, attributes and vocals, this mode is where you'll be spending most of your time if single player is your forte, going through a tutorial then exploring and choosing weapon load outs, character buffs and mild management games.Arcade mode - As one would expect its your traditional arcade mode, with a ladder that one progresses, an improvement over SCV.Vs Mode - Simple as one would expect, you select a character and a character to verse.Training mode - Most of the training is actually embedded in the Adventure mode which can be quite confusing, this mode include what you would expect, however you can't add commands to a notepad at the top of your screen, which is a real shame as it's the main staple among many a modern fighting game.Critiques - In my short time playing this game, I've experienced a few minor issues that I will list below and add to or remove as invest more time in SCVI.Training mode - Lacking a notepad for saving commands, it's also poorly structured and confusing, not to forget repetitive to keep opening the menu to see commands and guides. The main Campaign - Can be considered laborious to get into, requiring significant investment if you're not extremely hyped for the game.Music - The music is a lackluster in terms of quality and quantity.Stages - There are simply too few.Characters - They're on the borderline of too few, however this isn't as much of an issue due to the work invested in the characters designs.Dlc - There is a integral character being locked behind dlc at launch "Tira" this is a complete insult to the intelligence of gamers alike.Pros - As with critiques I'll add as I gain more game knowledge and experience.A general improvement over SCV, in near to all respects.New welcome mechanics.Nostalgia overload mode "Adventure".To summarize, the games a fighting game anyone can play relatively well; great for casuals, being able to be mastered by who sees fit. The graphics are decent, the load times a little much, generally being a solid purchase, I'd recommend if for someone who wants a new fighting game to master.

Its great. You want more info than that? OK. Its really great. Seriously, this game is the business and represents something of a return to form for Namco after the mostly underwhelming SC5. Good news for Namco, as the last Soul Calibur didn't sell all that well. If there is any justice, this should sell.In terms of the fighting, SC6 is as brilliant as ever. In fact, the quality of the fighting has never really been the problem with Namco's beat 'em ups, it has been everything else around them. They have had a tendency to saddle otherwise top fighting games with terrible game modes and a distinct lack of single player content. SC5 isn't the only example; Soul Calibur Broken Destiny, Tekken Prime, even JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on the PS3 suffered from this. Not SC6 I'm pleased to say. As soon as you see the main menu, there is plenty there. A main story mode (harking back to the style of SC2), a story mode for each character, Battle Mode (which contains among other things, a proper Arcade mode) and, of course, online play. The main story mode involves a quest carried out by a user-designed fighter. You have relatively limited options for customisation initially but don't worry, there is more to come. There is also a far more substantial character design/customisation mode to create fighters to use in the other modes, including online. The arcade mode is good, not that hard on the default settings, but there are no individual character endings - that is what the second story mode is for.The fighting is superb. Soul Calibur has always been one of the flashiest fighters and this is even more so. Top graphics, great animation and effects, better sound (the fighters interact more) and new play features. These new features include the Reversal Edge, which causes a clash between fighters, resolved by a kind of rock/paper/ scissors game. You can also do the Critical Edge, as in SC5, but now you can also use this energy to power your combatant and get access to new moves, and even a different, fantastic-looking Critical Edge! These really have to be seen for yourself and I was as impressed as when I played the original Soul Calibur back on the Dreamcast. Good news continues in that most of the old favourite fighters return and the new, pointless characters from SC5 have been dumped. Then there is online. I didn't get the time to try this out as even I have to sleep, but assuming this is like the beta, it should be great. I had very little lag in the network test, none at all in a fight with a player in Japan! That is pretty impressive in any game, particularly a beat 'em up.So, what else is there to say but buy this game. I feel that SC6 is a stunner, surpassing Tekken 7 in most aspects, especially in terms of single player content, and is a must-buy for any serious fight fan, yet accessible for even the greenest noob.

If you've played any of the previous games you'll feel right at home with the new iteration of soul calibur. It is extremely fun to play with high impact, satisfying gameplay. The effects are incredible and each hit you land feels chunky and powerful. The character movement feels very fluid and loose, as if each character has been released from invisible shackles compared to the previous games. The sheer amount of variety in terms of moves and fighting mechanics makes this game very deep, and yet still easy to get in to for beginners. Everything feels very refined. The graphics are nice but to be honest, compared to the previous games which were on previous gen, there's not much of an improvement.SC6 actually has a fair few poorly done, low poly textures on certain costume parts, weapons and stages. For the most part sc4 and 5 actually have better graphics despite the fact they were on previous gen. But don't let this deter you, the gameplay is where it shines and its very addictive. Extremely high fun factor and that's what matters the most. The game has plenty of content with 2 story modes and a full character creator where you can make your own original character using any of the fighting styles of the base roster or you can make alternative costumes for the main characters. There are 100 slots for saving your created characters and you can even download other people's characters via the network. Creation equipment is a bit limited in the base game but there is more on the way via dlc which will open up a lot of potential. There's also a traditional arcade mode with 8 stages which also has a Legendary difficulty unlock if you complete it on 'very hard' first.Traditional vs mode let's you play against a friend locally or against cpu opponent. You can even watch the cpu fight itself and choose the match ups and watch them duke it out if you like!If you followed the news of this game during its production phases you would know that it had a very limited budget. But what they have achieved with it is outstanding. There's just so much to do and endless replay value. Its rare to see fighting games have this much content at launch so that you actually feel like what you get justifies the price tag. Also just confirmed in recent trailer guest dlc character 2B from Nier Automata is joining the roster soon!

Officially better then Soul Calibur V - Would recommend.Soul Calibur VI is a quality return to form; a dreaded 'soft-reboot' done well this game bursts with singleplayer content, lets go over some of this:The GOOD+ Not one but two story modes. One allows you create your own character and travel the world following a text heavy story-mode. I've read some justified criticism of it because of all the text and the fairly dry story but I think its fab - its also very long! Think a return to the weapon master mode of SC2.+ The other story mode follows all the other characters - this has higher production values and voice acting and complements the other mode very well, great stuff!+ Combat - Its a wonderful return to the fast paced 8-way running system. Combat is dynamic and exciting, the new reversal options, super moves and all the rest are great!+ Returning Characters - To see all the returning greats like Kilik, Taki, Xianghua and Talim is fantastic - most handle just like they used to so you can jump right in if you are a returning vet!+ Special Effects - Battles light up with lightning, slow mo and amazing super attacks. Character movement is fast, flexible and the animations are excellent!+ Character Creator - There are loads of character types to choose from, like ten different body types (Human, Mummy, Lizardman, Angel etc) and its as good as ever! You will see a lot of Sans online!+ Fan Service - The game embraces it in 'all' its forms, no shame here! The BAD- Graphics - look they are for the most part, great! However some of the close ups are very low res (check out Xianghuas sword hilt) and it can be quite jagged. The game looks good from a distance, but up close not so much!- Stages - again, they do the job but none are very inventive or exciting - some lovely lighting mind. The UGLY- DLC - Namco need calling out on their poor DLC practices. To gate off Tira (a fan-favorite character we know to be fully up and running in the online beta) and stock the game with its obligatory season pass (£24 for 4 characters!? Are you high???) lost this game a lot of good faith, a shame.OverviewIts great and its a shame Namco damaged the brand with its DLC practices. Unless you wish to make a laudable stand against this sort of thing, embrace the soul and the game - you won't be disappointed.

I've been playing this series from the very beginning (Soulblade on the PS1 for any other old duffers out there who have been gaming too long) and SCVI is comfortably one of the better entries in the series. The game feels much, much closer to the likes of SCII and SCIII than more recent sequels. Better yet, almost everything that SCV added in the way of reinvention has - thankfully - been binned. SCVI has the proper characters that fans know and love, actual single-player content this time and none of the meddling with the gameplay that SCV attempted. Guard Impact is free to use once again for example. As for the Collector's Edition...well, I can't say it was worth £130 (the price I paid on pre-order).The European version doesn't include the artbook and steel case that the US version has and the soundtrack is a download code on a piece of paper rather than proper CDs. What you're paying for is the figurine, game and season pass. The Sophitia statue itself is okay but nothing more. If you buy or have owned statues from dedicated manufacturers such as Max Factory then you will find the finish on this one to be merely average. The sword is also a ridiculously tight fit to place in her hand so I didn't bother in case I broke something. It's not BAD but it didn't impress me too much considering the price of this CE when it's already a lesser product next to the US edition. On the other hand, there are no other decent-sized Sophitia statues on the market that I know of so this is pretty much the only option. In conclusion, the game is fantastic. The CE is disappointing, mostly because it feels like the European market has got palmed off with a watered-down version of the US edition. If the artbook, steel case and soundtrack discs had been in this version then I would have whole-heartedly recommended it for £130 but alas they aren't so I cannot.

I have to admit that my first venture into the realm of Soul Calibur is with this game. I never played any of the previous games related to this franchise so my expectations were non-existent. The figurine caught my eye in the first place and I bought it due to it thinking that even if I do not like the game, then I will still get a nice collectible figurine and then sell off the game. How wrong I was, the game is absolutely thrilling and I love the fact that I can play with another player in split-screen mode. I pretty much devoured it in 2 days, that's how addictive it is.For a collector's edition, and particularly for the overall price of 130GBP, the product does not offer much. You get a nice collectible box, the game, the stunning figurine of Sophitia (in color version, dislike the grey one) as well as the soundtrack as a digital download and the Season Pass. The Season Pass isn't of much use at the moment as you can only get for now 1 additional character, although Bandai Namco announced that they will include a character from Nier Automata. More content will be released in the future and it will be made available via the Season Pass.In conclusion, I recommend the game and its collector's edition not for the casual gamer, but more like for the die hard fans particularly since it costs much and offer rather little. Fans of the franchise might want to get their hands on the figurine which is pretty cool. I bought it primarily as a collectible, disregarding whether if I will enjoy the game or not. Odds have been in my favor that I actually liked it.

I keep changing my mind about how much I like to love this game. I was a bit dubious of it the graphics are amazing. The best of any of the games so far but thus being the latest game that is to be expected. The moves are a little different to pull off. I think they have been made a little bit too easy to pull off. It takes some of the skill out of the games, but I did have to learn more if the dodging skill so this made up for this.I was a little disappointed that there was not a character specific ending on the arcade battle mode of the game. However there is in another mode. The continuity freak in me does love the part that if there is a main story and ending to the game (even though my faverite is not the main character in this),and the other specific characters endings run along side this main story. Some of the ending and stories I did recognise from other games in the franchise. The biggest strength of this game is that you can create and use many customised characters and use the through out the different game modes. It is also possible to choose the destiny of yohr character as a hero or villain depending on your choices. The thing that made my choice to definitely made this a 5 star game was I cannot stop play I could not stop playing it whenever I get a chance.

I've been playing these games since Soul Blade for the ps1 (1996!) and this latest one has over come 20 years of nostalgia for the old ones to be my new firm favourite. They thankfully got rid of the mechanics from 5 and added some beginner friendly stuff for newcomers. You can customise all the characters or just make your own. A full story mode aswell as separate stories for every main character, so everyone gets some love. This is about as close to a perfect fighting game as these possibly can be.

A big return to form to this gaming series. The gameplay handling is smooth compared to tekken and mortal kombat (just my opinion). The roster consists of 20 characters which includes Kilk,Nightmare,Voldo etc. There's also a main story and individual character story mode and a story mode for your custom fighter. Overall im very happy i purchased this game and would recommend for fans of the series.

What a game. I am now reviewing this in 2019 after almost a year of playing. The updates that Namco have issued have straightened out what little issues there were. Not much can touch this fighter in terms of depth and enjoyment. Bar the usual suspects. Not only the multiplayer online but the single player story mode can keep you for hours. Love it.

Been a fan of this series since way back when soulblade came out on the PS1 and to be honest was initially a little sceptical but was pleasantly surprised there’s enough to do to keep you occupied the only slight peeve is the character narration when you go through story modes it’s a little cheesy but other than that I’m happy with it

11.11.2018

If you loved the old soul calibur games or jumping into this new, then i can't recommend this enough. The fast paced combat is all here along with new moves and supers, the graphics are good enough to notice and the character creation mode will have you hooked or hours making your own oc or characters from other franchises ^^

7.5.2020

This is the latest installment of the long running Soul Blade series. I would highly recommend buying this game if you are a long time fan or just looking for a new fighting game to play during the lockdown. It has great graphics, a compelling storytelling aspect and most importantly well balanced and fun fighting mechanics.

21.3.2020

I played a lot of soul calibur as a kid, and coming back to this one was easy. Simple to learn and complex to master. The character creator adds a lot to the game also and is one of the best I've seen. Online modes are a bit dead, but I recommend it to anyone who is learning to play fighting games.
