This is a powerful speaker that should provide enough volume for the vast majority of homes, gardens and parties. I have uploaded a photo of the speaker next to a fairly standard-sized kettle and you can see that the speaker clearly dwarfs the kettle! This is NOT a battery-powered speaker. The speaker is portable to the extent that it has a built-in handle at the top AND it is surprisingly light to carry around. However, you do need to plug this into mains electricity to power the speaker.======================SOUND QUALITY======================As you might expect from something this size, the sound quality is very good. I like heavy bass when listening to more upbeat, energetic music and this Sony speaker delivers exceptional bass when I'm cooking. Our kitchen, dining area and lounge are all open plan and this speaker produced loud enough music to fill every corner. I could imagine using this speaker for a party of 20 to 30 people and there easily being enough quality sound to reach everyone's ears. However, it is worth using the built-in graphic equalizer via the "sound field" button. For example, when I turned the volume up quite a lot, then there was a bit of distortion: the bass remained booming but some of the mid-range sounds became somewhat muted. I found that the sound quality improved by pressing the "sound field" button on the speaker.Having used the "sound field" button a few times, I now know what settings are best for music at the kind of volume that suits me when I'm listening alone versus when I might want to turn the volume up quite considerably. It's not ideal to have to change the graphic equalizer settings when changing volume from quieter to very loud - but I really did find this essential in order to keep the sound quality balanced when changing the volume a lot.======================CD PLAYER======================There are a handful of features that are unusual in a portable speaker. It's been a while since I have seen a CD player built into a speaker that also has Bluetooth functionality. But this is actually quite welcome. My family and I have certainly not had the patience to rip every CD that we own and turn them into digital formats, so it's actually quite fun to play CDs that we hadn't listened to in a while.======================OVERALL======================Overall, this speaker is much larger than most Bluetooth speakers. The sound quality easily surpasses every portable, battery-powered Bluetooth speaker that I have personally experienced. Do NOT buy this if you are looking for a speaker that is battery powered and completely portable. Buy this only if you are looking for loud, clear sound with very good bass - and if you are willing to keep the device powered by mains electricity.

First things first...compared to all other similar sized bluetooth speakers I have used in the past...the XB32 blows all of them out the water, fantastic piece of kit. Based on its sound alone, what Sony have done with the XB32 is create a device for playing modern music genres with simple hard hitting baselines like R'n'B, Hip Hop, Dance,etc... It produces a raw, volume extreme, thumping sound which feels like it shouldn't be possible given its size. I gave all the sound modes a go...Standard/Extra Bass/Live...the Standard mode in my opinion is pointless, it's just too flat, but the other two is what it was made for. Surprisingly I found that it did rather well with Classical also, the XB brought out the low bass tones of some of the orchestra with good distinction, go figure!Bluetooth connectivity worked solidly as expected with my mobile phone, running Android Pie, LDAC was fully utilised at 32-bit 96kHz which really is complete overkill for a bluetooth speaker but there you have it, it's a thing but don't expect a Hi-Res audiophile sound from the XB32 because it will never happen!I have used Sony's apps on my mobile before with my headphones, they are a great compliment to their audio equipment, however the Sony Fiestable app with its 'Motion Control' and the 'Party Booster' feature just feels way too gimmicky for me but at 40+ years old, I am now passed all that, these are definitely targeted at the younger audience. Saying that, I do like the RGB lightstrips, I think they are great, I caved in to that one lol!The XB32 will become my goto for travelling without a doubt, it's quite weighty but not too massively heavy it will be hard to store in a case or backpack. The build quality is excellently rugged and tactically sleek but it still looks good with it, not out of place on a coffee table, next to a BBQ, by the pool, on a beach or just partying on!!Charging the device is done via a Micro USB port which for me is not a problem as I have plenty of those cables lying about...would have been nice to have USB C though, just for future proofing. Also would have loved to test out the WPC (Wireless Party Chain) feature in L/R stereo mode, just out of pure curiosity to see how it stacks against my in-home stereo...with the bass it pounds out, I think it would be more like a 2.1 sound system. You get what you pay for when buying a Bluetooth speaker. The XB32 is woth every penny of the above average price tag.Why spend the extra? Sound quality, end of. In fact its so good that i choose not to take it traveling as the bass is bigger than other hotel guests might like.Sony do not quote the wattage of this series of speakers unlike the cheapo ones that make all sorts of claims. The bass is quite something else for something its size which gives a great overall sound. Even better with Sony speakers is using the Music center APP when playing via Bluetooth. This app works as a music player and allows the tone to be adjusted as well as the funky lights ( if you choose to use them ).Using the speaker out of the box the sound can be set to 'Live' which throws the sound wider and standard. The lights are controlled by a button around the back by pressing it until you like the display. Music Center App allows adjustment between 'Live', 'Extra Bass' and standard as well as a 3 way equaliser so that at low volumes the Bass can be made very pronounced as well as lifting the treble. It also allows the choice of lighting effects from a list.Built quality as expected from Sony is excellent as is the battery life.As a comparison I already had a JBL Charge 4 and wondered why i was confused with its sound ,, these as it turns out are only mono and and despite all the hype not as god as the XB32.If the £85 price tag is a little high even the XB31 or 32 are worth buying. I use an old XB2 when in hotels and it has a sound much better than its size suggests with an amazing low volume bass level.

I received this SRS-XB32 speaker about a month ago and spent most of my time playing it in different environments from the comfort of our lounge to the harsh environment of our conservatory and on the patio and it never ceased to impress. It is reassuringly heavy and well built. I think the design would not look out of place in any room or outside. The Bluetooth is stronger than any other I have used even through ragstone walls and the battery lasts so long I tend to forget when I last charged it.The shape makes it easy to hold and carry around although makes it less portable for some. The sound quality is it's shining glory.I have high end HIFI as a domestic system but the Sony gives it a good run for its money.I am particuarly impressed with the sound when it goes loud. There is a distinct lack of boom and vibration often associated with small speakers.I pair the speaker with my Sony Walkman NW-A45 and they seem to be made for each other.I feature I find slightly irritating is the design of the controls which are difficult to select in anything but the best light. Also I am not usually in favour of the lights but find these quite subtle.Overall an extremely impressive sound sytem [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Despite being relatively large, the speaker is lightweight and easy to move around the house with no trouble. I wouldn't want carry it a lot further though. There is a single power cable, making setting the speaker up very quick and easy. The sound itself is pretty impressive, especially the ‘mega bass’ function which allows you (using the controller or a button on the speaker) to dictate the prominence of the bass depending on song/occasion. The CD port works well, as does the bluetooth connection which can reach through at least one wall to a different room, or to a comfortable distance without faltering. Having used the speaker for large gathering,it had no trouble providing the music both for partygoers inside and out of the house, with a decent sound for varying genres of music. The light on the speaker can be turned off and on with ease, and works well in a ‘party’ setting. I have not used the ‘guitar amp’ port but judging from the sound of the speaker, it seems to be a useful function. All in all, pleased with the speaker.

This stylish and sturdy speaker is an absolute joy. The easy to follow Help Guide and Operating Instructions ensure pairing to an iPhone and other devices is simple. Reaching full charge takes only a short time and the convenient extra USB port allows a phone to be charged at the same time. The sound quality is both rich and deep from such a small speaker and the battery life is an impressive twenty four hours continuous play except when operating the light show or extra bass features which reduce it to twelve hours. The programmable disco style L.E.D. lights are a great fun feature. Waterproof and dust proof; it’s ideal for outside use, even on the beach. The trade off for this high spec and build quality is the speaker’s weight at 900g [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I bought this recently after I wore my old srs-xb20 out quite a lot over a few years and decided I needed an upgrade. A really rich sound and good battery life and volume enough for a house party room or for in the park. Some of the features are a bit useless such as the party boost? can't ever imagine actually using that, though it was fun for the first five minutes upon opening the box. The lights are fine though I mostly have them off.It is a bit big and cumbersome for a portable speaker, but worth it for the added volume and bass.My only real gripe is that it doesn't seem to link up to my older (still working) srs-xb20.I gave it 5*s because I bought it during a sale and feel it has been very worth the money,at full price it still really good, but I'd probably have only given it 4

Smart looking and solid build. The sound quality is surprisingly good for a small speaker. The extra bass is really noticeable, but vocals are still clear and distinct. You can turn the volume up high, with little distortion. Tried this with all types of music and it coped equally well with classical as pop and rock. Lights are fun, and change in time with the music, although I preferred the "Cool Lime" and "Cool Cinnabar". Also acts as a power bank to charge your phone, although only when the speaker is on. Has a couple of useful apps, which allows you to control the speaker fully. In summary, a good fun party speaker, but because of its size, is also a good travel speaker.[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I’ve had this speaker a few weeks now and I’m very pleased with it.I got it to use in the bathroom mainly but was concerned it wouldn’t be loud enough, but that is not the case. It is very loud if you turn it right up and has loads of bass that is truly impressive for a small speaker.Good points are the volume, bass, and the fact it is waterproof. The lights are pretty cool too but it’s a shame they don’t sync with the music properly. I’ve not come across many bad points, but it is quite heavy if you were to carry it around all day, and you have to download an app to get all the features to work properly.

This was bought to replace my original Sony Bluetooth speaker that finally gave up the ghost after the charging point was damaged. That said it gave many years service and traveled with me extensively. This speaker is a little larger/heavier than my previous one but the sound is amazing... even better than before.Wasn’t convinced about the lights but actually they are quite fun and can be switched off.Glad to see that the charging point and controls are behind a waterproof flap so hopefully will provide better protection.Would definitely recommend this speaker.

Plenty of punch. Easy to pair out of the box. About 50% charged, which was confirmed by a voice when switching the speaker on. Once paired automatically taken to applications that enable you to get the most out of the device. Once downloaded had a play around. Have tried to the max volume (v shortly) found about half volume is really sufficient for me. Really worth spending a bit more on these to get in my opinion a great sounding system. For those who like a little flash the lighting system is fine but not what I was thinking about when purchasing

All I'll say is simply, What a great bit of kit!! I've had a few Sony speakers and dare i say it on Amazon I've had a few Alexa's(Echos) as well. This Speaker was a product of borrowing someone else's SRS-XB31,which is also an amazing bit of audio wizardry...... But when the 32 was delivered I couldn't of been happier!!! The Light, WPC and Add functions are seamless for the price. Highly recommended from someone who loves music. Thank you for creating such a quality product 5 stars from me!!

Wicked Product I always do massive amounts of research before I buy a product, this speaker has a beautiful sound. for such a tiny speaker holds a charge of a 24 hrs also uses as a Power bank. But what I love about this is you use, live music and the LEDs the speaker will still last a hefty 12 hrs if you turn off live and the LEDs you can get up to whole day use. It's also waterproof, so throw it in the pool and play music I admit I have not done that yet, but that's an option if you wish.

Bought this for kitchen/ garden so only wanted something small size is perfect Like that you can have lights on or off and you can connect to other Sony speakers son has XB40 but haven’t tried connecting them yet might not be the loudest if you’re a party animal but great for what we want it for easy to connect and battery lasts for agesOnly downside cable to charge it doesn’t have a plug attached just the cable & XB40 charger doesn’t fit Other than that really happy with it

Previously had a Sony bluetooth speaker and it has always been great for sound and bass but its getting on a bit now. Was looking for a speaker for my mums birthday, came across this and bought it for myself first to see if it was worth it....defo not sorry i bought it. Perfect! Will be buying my mum one too. Easy to setup, lights are great and fun features in the apps that go along with it. Haven't fully run it on battery yet, so can't review that just yet.
