Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts serves up some excellent atmospheric sniping action across a range of environments. Playing as the central character you make your way through a number of multi-layered missions across a fairly wide map. Each mission comprises of a separate map containing 4-5 objectives and each objective can take you quite a while (around 30-45 mins) to complete. Each overall mission can take anywhere up to 3-4 hours to complete depending on how carefully you play and how many collectables you want to hunt for. The maps are complex, detailed and full of hide-aways, passages, open spaces, buildings, towers and cliff edges, all brilliant for setting up position, scouting enemy positions and taking aim. Vertical space as well as the horizontal is well catered for here. There is a story, of sorts, which portrays a fictitious Siberian country riddled with military nasties who need to be taken out. The story simply sets the scene, it’s slightly tongue-in-cheek but it doesn’t really matter as once you set off it’s all about you, your rifle, your tactical aids and your ability to plan a suitable strategy to get where you need to be to take out the targets. The thing I love about this game is that it sets you off at the start of a map/mission and says, ‘over to you.’ It really is up to you how you approach each mission and you can do objectives in any order you like. You can go low, high, east, west, north, south in any order, take everyone you come across out in turn or sneak past them if you prefer, take spot lights out to make the environment darker so you’re harder to see, lure an enemy away from his colleagues to check out a broken electrical system that you’ve just shot so you can shoot him without alarming the others, or if you’re up against it if the alarm does get triggered, go loud and swap your rifle for a machine gun and a few grenades or back off and choose a new route. Dead bodies can be picked up and hidden to avoid others detecting your presence after you’ve moved on. If the alarm is sounded the enemies go to high-alert they spend quite a while watching out for you using binoculars to search for you. AI is fairly decent and there is a good range of difficulty settings which dictates how quickly you’ll die if hit.The freedom you get to actually PLAY this game is quite simply excellent and is a real breath of fresh air from all those supposedly AAA titles that insist on taking the action out of your hands with follow me, do this now, do that now and here’s another cut scene every couple of minutes. Sniper Contracts entertains none of that nonsense, the only break in your control over the action is the kill-cam which triggers when you pull off a really nice shot showing you the path of your bullet in slow motion as it traces towards your target and thumping home in a satisfying manner. And who wouldn’t want to see that every time. The aiming process is very good and requires just a little practise to get right. A simple tutorial explains all you need to know and I soon found myself within an hour of starting the game setting elevation and adjusting for windage very easily, pulling off some very rewarding shots at distance across the first main mission. After a few more hours I was hardly missing. The system just takes understanding and little more skill than just point and shoot. I love it.Guns, tactical kit, skills and clothing can be upgraded or replaced with better models as you earn points throughout the game. I’ve read a few really negative reviews about this game and I don’t get it. I’ve played almost every sniper game there is (previous Elite and Ghost titles included) and this one is amongst the best. The game is great at what it does. It gives you freedom to explore and make your own decisions. For those who want to simply run and gun or need to be held by the hand during games, Sniper Contracts might be frustrating, but if you enjoy games that ask you to think, don’t let negative reviews put you off. Graphically the game is very good. Draw distance is nice, environments are detailed and varied, weather effects are very effective and lighting is very well done. Everything works very well. For perfectionists there is occasional minor judder as you swing around quickly but nothing game breaking at all. It’s at least as good as many AAA full-priced titles and better that quite a few of them. Sound is well handled and creates good atmosphere throughout.Save points may be a minor niggle for some. There is no manual save but I don’t agree with reviewers who complain about being sent back to do huge sections of missions again when they die. There are enough checkpoint auto saves across the maps to keep any decent gamer happy and I never had to re-do any more than a couple of minutes even when I was getting to grips with the game in some of the early challenging scenes and getting killed quite often. Players can leave the game after completing part missions (each objective triggers a save) and restart where they left off so, whilst it would be the cherry on the cake to have a manual save, the manner in which the game does handle saves doesn’t really present a problem.Overall a great game. Great fun, quite challenging and a pleasure to be handed a free reign to play as I want to play for a change without interruption from daft cut scenes and scripted paint-by-numbers gameplay that COD and other titles force upon you. Thumbs up from me!

If you enjoy stealth and sniping games then this is worth buying. Like the sniper elite series you carry out a series of contract missions with only minimal cutscenes between them. The game is set in the modern day/ near future. Missions are entertaining and there are lots of side objectives. The maps for each contract are reasonably big and openworld. Finally and most importantly the sniping mechanics are lots of fun and reasonably "realistic". If you like the challenge of working your shot out, taking elevation and wind direction into account then you will probably enjoy it. The only downsides are a couple of little glitches and the fact it has no facility to save your progress, autosave only!So you can lose a bit of progress if you get killed which can be pretty frustrating on a slow stealth game. But I suppose that ups the stakes making you more careful.

I bought this game as I have all the other sniper games on Xbox one. This game is challenging, which is good. The different sniper rifles you can buy are good and the story mode is alright. Not so great is: On missions you could spend 30-40 minutes trying to get from point a-b snipping and having fun, then you’d be killed and although the auto save icon is in top right corner flashing away at times. You all of a sudden end up back where you started or at your last proper save point.Which is really frustrating.Still it’s not a bad game for the price.

Hesitant to buying this game after reading reviews on the internet ,but bought it on the Playstation Store for a bargain price of £15.99 as a digital download. The game is one of the best sniper games I have ever played. It reminds me of early Metal Gear Solid game where you try to infiltrate bases etc.Yes there is a learning curve where you have to judge the distance on your scope before firing and you can’t go in gung-ho ,and at the beginning you may find the game daunting but persevere and you’ll have a smile on your face.A MUST BUY.

If you like sniper games then this is for you, the graphics are good but not great, it reminds me of Killzone on PS3 quality wise. The breath bar runs out too quickly unless you are prone, and there's a lot of scope wobble. The wind direction really affects the hit and takes a bit of getting used to.The maps are huge an non linear so you can play out each mission in what ever order you like. There doesn't seem to be a way of skipping the lengthy mission brief each time you load the game.

I love a sniping game, and have played pretty much all of them. The aiming on this game aims for realism, and in the process is frustrating. Long distance shots are a chore, and i kept missing. Most sniper games i have a 75% hit rate on long shots, this game was more like 50%.Once past that, i really enjoyed this game. Lots of things to do, the maps are a decent size, and plenty of stuff to do. One of the better sniper games i've played, let down by sniping realism.

There's not a lot of good sniper games out there and not everyone wants to quick scope on cod. Personally I enjoy this game and the fact you have to take other factors into account when playing, such as wind direction and distance. It's not a run in and shoot everything so if you're impatient this may not be for you.Graphics ate good but the text on the map screen could be easier to read against a bright white background.

Great budget titleIt's a kind of metal gear solid and hitman crossbreedGraphics and gameplay are decent, would like to see a dedicated save function of (maybe allow 3 manual saves per mission ) rather than relying on the random checkpoint savesWould like to see the game further refined as some of the gadgets are useless but it's worth £20 easily

With trepidation I bought this; Ghost warrior 3 stunk.I absolutely love this. It is slow, and strategic; just as a good snpier game should be.Not the largest game with 5 maps each with 5 contracts. But each has challenges to unlock tokens to buy upgrades/ gadgets etc I recommend, a great sniper game!!

the game is great kept me quite for hours the problem is your player is dressed in all black no good if you on snow shows up a treat, needs camo to match the terrain, next is you do not get a choice of what guns you can have need a better choice.apart from the above buy this game amazing good price

Lots of play on this game. The challenges make you play same levels over and over as you can't do them all in one go.So good value for money and satisfying when you complete each one.As you play you get accustomed to the aim and controls so its easy to play.I would well recommend this game.

Takes a bit of getting into but a good game large maps and lots of different routes to complete your contracts if you go the wrong way it won't save, so get killed and you will go all the way back to the last save, good selection of weapons, I love it, now doing it again.

Just started playing this game, not shure about it yet because you go to a practice range first to set your sights up on ya gun , I hit some of the targets straight in the head several times and still never went down, let’s hope it gets better further on

Got this for 13 quid brand new bargain for that price.Graphics not too badGameplay fun but takes getting used to as quite in depth. When it clicks it's amazing, when it doesn't can be extremely frustrating.Budget game worth the 13 quid i paid for it.
