I have tried a number of mid-range headphones recently and I would suggest that the Sennheiser Urbanite On-Ear Headphones are up there with the best I've used.I'll start with arguably the most important factor consider when choosing any pair of headphones, sound quality. It is my opinion that the Sennheiser Urbanite On-Ear Headphones excel in this area. The bass is rich, without being overpowering and the top-level sounds are clear and defined (despite the reasonably hefty bass). You can really hear the rich layers of instrumentation in a song, with a crystal clear vocal underpinned by a solid bass and for me that description is the definition of a good pair of headphones.I should also point out at this juncture that the headphones are closed enough that the sound quality is good even in noisy environments- I use them regularly on the commute to work and they have no problem blocking out the sounds from the outside world. I'd find it difficult to award anything less than full marks for sound quality alone. As a personal preference, I prefer Over-Ear Headphones because I believe they tend to provide more comfort (despite being slightly larger). Having said that, I've used comfortable On-Ear Headphones in the past so I thought I'd give these a chance. The material on the ear-pads is velvety and spongy. The headphones don't push too hard on the ear, although if worn for long periods they can start to become uncomfortable. I found that after an hour or so I wanted to take the headphones off. The band at the top is lined with a soft-leathery material which means that the headphones are comfortable on the top of your head.Appearance-wise the headphones look good, I'm a fan of the sand colour my headphones came in and whilst bulky they look stylish at the same time. I like the chunky movement of the headphone cups to ensure they fit your head. Finally the added bonus with this pair of headphones is the in-line iphone control which works a treat and allows you to skip tracks on your iphone as well as adjust the volume at the click of a bottom. This feature is particularly useful when you're on the move.Overall therefore I'm impressed with the Urbanite Headphones (and feel they are a marked improvement on the Sennheiser Momentum) range. I think the pricing is fair considering the sound quality. My one slight qualm is comfort-levels after extended periods of use, but I think this is likely to improve as the headphones become worn in and for those used to On-Ear headphones this may not be a problem at all.

Over the years I've tried a lot of headphones, and found many that I did not like. But pretty much all of those have been the in-ear earbud style of headphones. I haven't really used a full sized set since way back in the 70's. There are a lot of my co-workers who sport the Beat's full-sized headphones, but I've resisted getting a pair of those myself. Mainly because I don't like the looks of the ones I see my co-workers wearing. But when I was offered a pair of these Sennheiser Urbanites to try out, the first thing that caught my attention is how good they look. These look like a pair of headphones an adult could wear. They are certainly well crafted. And they also sound as good as they look.I was really impressed with the amount of bass that these put out (then again, I'm use to earbuds). But that isn't just me that thinks that. All my Beat's wearing co-workers wanted to try these things on, and every one of them remarked on the quality of the bass these have. And it's not just the bass, the high end is great too. I've tried these with all kinds of music (and a few audiobooks) and everything has a deep rich sound with these. I've used these with both my iPod touch and iPod classic (and also one of my co-workers iPad), the control function works perfect. But I've also tried these with my android tablet and Kindle - the headphones work but the controller doesn't (which is to be expected). My one and only complaint about these, is that you just get a soft cloth bag to store these in. Since I'm carrying these around in my backpack, I wanted something a bit more protective. So I searched here on Amazon for a case and didn't find anything that looked suitable. Then I walked around the local big-box store to see if I could find something that could be repurposed. I looked through all the departments. I had high hopes of finding a camera case, but none were the right size and proportions. I finally found something that was perfect. Cutting through the health and beauty department, I spotted a clear plastic shaving bag that was meant for travelers. It was heavy duty plastic and the exact size needed to store these headphones. Prefect. One final thing I'll say about these headphones - since they are so good, you will probably want to bump up the quality of the music that you have on your devices. The higher the better.

I always wondered what a nice, expensive pair of headphones sounded like. Now I think I'm spoiled. These are a new design for Sennheiser which has a great reputation for producing quality products and these headphones extend that tradition. I've played with them for a day or so and have already formed some definitive ideas. The Good:* Sound quality is just right for me. These aren't too loud and the sound reproduction is better than any other pair of headphones I've tried. Nice, rich bass.* Build. These are excellent. You can feel the quality right out of the box. These are NOT budget-made headphones. The workmanship is top notch.* Noise cancellation. They aren't designed for that nor do they advertise. But in my limited experience they provide at least some noise deadening which is a great bonus. Not as good as an over-the-ear of course but better than expected.* Custom to your device. They come with a detachable cord which is particular to your device. Mine is iPod, iPhone, IPad compatible for instance.* Controls. The cord has controls on it - with a built-in microphone - that is super handy.* Foldable. This is actually a plus and a minus. The earphones do fold in, which saves you some room. But as with any over-ear headphone, they are still a bit bulky. For what they are, they are extremely well made and fluid. Comparing their bulk to a pair of earbuds isn't really fair but it's inevitable. Not sure I would travel too much with these - especially on a plane. But I can certainly see them in great use around the house and in the car. (Not on me while I'm driving, of course. That's dangerous!)* 2-year warranty. Try getting that with your budget headphones that typically last until the first bump! This is actually very important and gives me a lot of peace-of-mind.A few not-so-goods.* Weight. They do have some heft to them. Not super heavy but you'll feel it. I might get used to this in time.* Bulky. Mentioned above.* Bluetooth. Would have been nice at this price point but not a killer. I knew what I was getting and don't mark them down for that.

There are many headphones on the market these days ranging from cheap ear buds to audiophile headphones that run into the thousands of dollars. It's been years since I've listened to true high end headphones, but with headphones like these on the market, I don't need to listen to anything more expensive. These offer a true full range that's smooth and free of artifacts present in cheaper headphones. I like to evaluate headphones with everything from classical music to contemporary music with crisp highs and deep bass. Since the goal of a good system is to reproduce the original sound, acoustic instruments give you the best opportunity to verify that it sounds as if there were a violin or acoustic guitar in the room. These did the job far better than anything I currently have. For amplified sources, I want cymbals to be crisp but not sibilant and bass to be tight and not a distorted boomy sound. These give a full range sound that captures everything I listened to, and the midrange is excellent.Hearing high frequencies tapers off as people get past their 20s, so I had to have my son, who is a musician, give them a try. I didn't tell him what to listen for but asked for his impressions. He told me, among other things, that the highs were far better than what he was getting with his main headphones, which are in a similar price range. The only thing that those have that these lack are noise canceling. The version I have is for Apple products, and although the controls on the cable won't work on Android devices, the microphone will. The sound quality of the microphone is also very good, so these are well suited to applications ranging from cell phones to FaceTime or Skype. As for the more basic points, these are comfortable, the ear pieces fold inward for storage and a bit more portability and the remote features on the cord will work with your Apple product to the extent that your model supports, which includes products going back for several generations.

These are stylish, well made headphones with good sound quality with a slight emphasis on the low end. Though the bass is emphasized a bit, it is not muddy at all, very clear and crisp. The over all sound is excellent, a bit mellow, great for pop. Instruments are clear, vocals are strongly present, highs a bit tame, but not objectionably so. Sound is very subjective, but I found these quite nice. There is great isolation from the over the ear design, which I prefer as I find this style more comfortable to use.I missed the "insert and twist" bit to plug the cord into the headset the first time and thought my pair was bad, but once you figure it out (designed so cord won't pull out),all is well and they work fine. I got the iPhone cord and I'm a droid guy, so can't evaluate that aspect, but as basic headphones I am very happy. I noticed some nice bits on some music I had missed in casual first listening but was really "there" when I tried these out, which is always a good sign for headphones.Personally, I think the cord could be longer, but that's a minor nit. They come nicely packed in foam and with a nice bag. Instructions are minimal and could be better. Nor were there any technical details. They are very comfortable to wear and fold up for storage and travel. They look "classy" and are much nicer than many sets as far as appearance, I'd say more "stylish" -- hipsters will love 'em. The full price might give me pause, though. I'd have to make a lot of side by side comparison to convince me, but that said, I don't think anyone would be disappointed with them for the price asked. So while not a "bargain", they are premium quality and I don't think anyone would regret their purchase. When the price eventually falls to say the $150 area, add the fifth star.I will note that during my listening tests with these, I grew to like them better the more I listened with them, another good sign for headphones.

I've been a happy Sennheiser customer in the past. Their headphones always have a rich kick-bass that meshes well with clear voices and treble. I feel these headphones are about what I would expect, maybe a little better. Still, I'm not without some critiques. Here's my rundown:PROS:- Great Bass. Specifically great kick bass. Deep throaty bass tends to get mellowed out a bit. I sampled a wide variety of music, including classical and hip hop, and found that they all sounded satisfactory.- Comfortable. Later I'll critique that the set is way too heavy, but it is pillowy and doesn't feel uncomfortable.- Volume/function controls. Albeit somewhat complicated, you can adjust the volume right from your headset with a handy controller built into the headphone wire. Note: only works with iDevicesCONS:- Bulky, heavy. I put my Bose headphones on after listening this and it felt like heaven. Bose is basically weightless. Sennheiser is very heavy.- No Bluetooth. The thought of buying premium headphones without Bluetooth is scary to me since it's so awesome and used so widely nowadays. There's a volume control and function control button on the headphone wire, but it's complicated and if you're already wired to your iDevice, it would probably be easier just to control it from there.- Somewhat quiet. At the loudest level, I find the volume completely satisfactory for me. But for those out there who really like to blare, you'll probably find that the max volume is too soft.OVERALL: Sennheiser is a great brand and offers great audio, but I'm still unable to give these headphones an above-average rating. At the current price point ($199.95) I feel that it should offer Bluetooth capability and have a louder sound range. I like the bass, but I don't feel it is superior enough to specifically seek out these headphones--even if all you only listen to club music.

Having used a variety of consumer-grade as well as higher-end headphones for studio recording, monitoring and mixing, I've come to the conclusion that there are headphones for doing specific tasks. Thankfully, for everybody out there, the Sennheiser Urbanites are perfect for enjoying music, regardless of the genre.Initially, I had felt that the grip of the headband was a little too tight, and maybe the treble response was not as prominent as my Grado SR225is (which, incidentally, are considerably more sibilant, and certainly lack more bass due to their open-back nature.) Eventually, those initial gripes gave way to what I felt was a delivery that made me want to sit back and breathe in thewide range of music I really enjoyed.Micheal Jackson's "Rock with You" swept along with plenty of punch in the kick and good percussiveness in the rhythm guitars; Pink Floyd's "Sheep" bumped along suitably well with excellent stereo imaging; the gleefully raw drumming of Dave Grohl in Them Crooked Vultures' "Scumbag Blues" came across with enough aplomb to convince me that these were certainly keepers when it came to delivering the goods with driving tunes. That said, this guy is no slouch with dynamics and delicate material either: there was plenty of body in the vocals and acoustic in Fleet Foxes' "Heard Them Stirring"; the piano in Coldplay's "Trouble" clearly had no such difficulties either. In terms of usability, these are pretty chunky, and potentially rather heavy for those who are constantly on the move. I myself, may prefer my AKG K451s for the daily commute, but for an evening of listening to a few select tracks, I daresay you would find any other cans which have such excellent balance of tone. \With the exception of bass-freaks, these truly do not leave you wanting to make any EQ tweaks.

These are genuinely fantastic, the best headphones I've ever tried. They look rather retro, a bit like a 1940s pilot's headset, with a nice matt black finish, brushed aluminium and a fabric coated headband. They are super comfy.Soundwise, as you'd expect from Sennheiser, they are outstanding. Great, rich sound, lots of bass without being unbalanced, with a clarity you rarely hear from even traditional speakers. They are wonderfully comfortable, even with glasses on, and are nice and stable on the head. Being old-style 'cans' they do stick out a bit from the side of your head, but not really an issue. They come with a microphone and phone controller built into the cable. This allows you to answer phone calls, and even make calls with voice recognition. There is a volume control and a single button that controls the phone - for example, one press will answer a call, a long press will cancel it. It's pretty intuitive but not very tactile. It's hard to tell which button does what by feel, but with only three buttons you quickly learn which is which. Phone calls are clear and pleasant to make, and the control buttons on the cable also include the microphone which naturally falls near your chin. No need to hold the mic while you're talking. This particular model is meant for Apple products, but it works quite happily with my Android phone too, (Motorola Moto G), except the volume controls don't work. I can make and receive phone calls with no issue. You can of course still use these headphones with anything that has a headphone jack and be able to hear music, it's just that the controls will have no effect.I'm delighted with these, they looks smart without being garish, fold up reasonably small, look hard-wearing and sound utterly amazing.

I'm not an audiophile, but I've had my share of headphones and I have to say that this is the first pair in a long time that has really impressed me. Sennheiser has been the brand that I have used for the last 10+ years, so I know the quality is good. The Urbanite headphones are clearly designed to compete with Beats by Dre. I've seen stats that suggest the Beats are no better than Apple earbuds in quality, but who knows...if that's true, then these must be better than Beats. The sound quality is great. I did some sound tests as best I could and the bass gets down to at least 30Hz if not into the 25Hz range. As for design, these are brilliant. First, they look cool. For the hipsters and non-hipsters,these are classy headphones. The band has a stitched fabric that is really unique and quite nice. They adjust easily, sliding up and down, rather than adjusting the head band. These are highly utilitarian as you can plug any audio cable into them. They come with one designed to be used with iPhones or Android phones (in keeping with the Beats competition), so the cable is flat, short, and includes audio control buttons and a microphone. This is really nice, but there is no standard audio cable, so if you want something longer or different (like a 1/4" jack) you will need to buy it separately. There is also a soft cloth bag for storing the foldable headphones. It's not super fancy, but it's less bulky and pretentious than most headphone bags are (not even a Sennheiser label on it).Overall, these are great headphones, well designed. They aren't cheap ($200), but they are probably worth it.**Edited because apparently I was shipped the "XL" version, which are over-ear headphones. I think it's fair that the rest of the review stands.**

I LOVE these!!! I listen to almost exclusively EDM and I loooove loud bass. One of the biggest disappointments is when a set of speakers or head/earphones doesn't deliver in the bass department. These do!! I was testing these out with a backup plan of just going for the over-ear ones if the bass wasn't loud enough. But I'm really really happy with these ones. If you want sample songs to listen to, I found that Warning by Slander and Nghtmre, the Flosstradamus remix of Tidal Wave by Sub Focus, Make Me Fade by Vanic and K. Flay, and the Big Wild remix of Hey Mami by Sylvan Esso had their bass completely exposed by these headphones. I've also always loved the drops in Boss Mode by Knife Party and the Slander remix of Up All Night by Arty,so you can check those out if you're a basshead like me.Another great thing about these, is that the different ranges aren't distorted or overpowering. Of course if they're turned up too loud, the high notes will hurt, but i haven't found the high notes to be at all obnoxious if they're at the right volume. Flume is my favorite producer and I listened to a ton of his songs with these and I swear, I heard something I had never heard before in every single song. And I listen to flume almost every other day, even every day some weeks. These are really amazing headphones. The ONLY reason I give these a 4 is because the ear pads start to hurt after a little while :/ For me, maybe an hour and a half or 2 hours?Overall, I love them.It might be worth mentioning that this is my first pair of headphones. I've always used earbuds. BUT it's also worth mentioning that I am VERY picky with my headphones and how I want to hear my music :)

This is a new product from Sennheiser. It is so new, at the time of my review, it is not mentioned on the Sennheiser website nor listed yet on Amazon. My comparison headphones are Etymotic ER-6i, Etymotic ER-4P, and Monster NCredible NPulse. I tested the headphones using an iPhone 5s with a variety of musical styles. These are over the ear headphones. They have moderate bass enhancement. Sennheiser didn't overdo the bass enhancement like many other manufacturers. If you are looking for bass enhanced headphones, these would be a great choice. I personally prefer as flat a frequency spectrum as possible. To each his own. Putting the bass enhancement aside, these are the pros and cons.---ProsGood sound isolation (but nothing like in ear headphones)ComfortableInterchangeable cable (mine came with an iPhone cable)On cable controls (with lots of functions)The controls are close to the headphonesFlat cable with minimal cable noiseFoldableStylishEasily adjustable, but without much slippage during useReplaceable earpadsConsLack of technical specifications (maybe they will have this on the website eventually)-----The box has a custom cutout in the foam for long term storage. There is also a storage/carry bag. There is a microphone inside the cable-controls which works well for voice controls and phone calls. In comparison, the Etymotic ER-6i sounds tinny, the Monster NCredible NPulse has too much bass, and the Etymotic ER-4P remains the most amazing headphones I have ever used.

Sound is unbelievably clear. Hearing hats and top end notes in songs I've never noticed before, whilst also having a nice punchy base that doesn't distort everything else. 4 stars because they aren't very comfortable, okay they're aren't terrible but they do grip a little to hard for my liking though this does make them less likely to slip off. Other really wrong points is the noise bleed, no one will be able to hear what you're listening to with these cans, it's amazing. Take them off and people can hear you on other continents, back on the cups are sealed and nothing. Microphone is omnidirectional which I can understand, but if you're listening to music whilst in a call, the other end will here your music, because of the vibrations travelling down the cable. Speaking of the cable, it's flat and so never tangles and I love that so much, another bones the cable unplugs at the headphone side, so you can replace the cable when you do inevitably get a break in the wire. The control thing on the cable is a little big and I did often notice it when using the headphones, just this rather large piece of plastic that doesn't bed so kind of gets in the way a lil than I would have liked. But very durable headphones, you can bend the headband complete flat, so I'm really not worried about breaking these and a 2yr warranty safety net is there if I do. Overall, great headphones.

My tech-mad 22yo son has been using these with an iPad and with his Samsung Galaxy S5. Whilst the headphones we were sent are meant for Apple products, it will work with any item with a 3.5mm jack, he says. This is what he thought about it:Sound is excellent, really crisp and clear. Bass isn't too overpowering. The headset feels comfortable on, with the generous foam/cushion padding all around the head area. It's very solid and well made, with an attractive dark sand, durable fabric and dark burnished copper metal finish. It's surprisingly lightweight but sturdy, and can be made smaller if needed, though not bigger, though saying that, the biggest setting will probably fit most adult head sizes. It has some really nifty hinges that allow the headset to fold into a pretty small sized semi-circle, great for tucking it away into a bag, in its handy pouch. There's a locking mechanism to hold the lead securely into the headset, which we hadn't initially realised, until the sound cut out a couple of times on first use; you just need to screw the lead in. My son's been using this as traditional headphones and also as a hands-free set for his phone and is delighted with his freebie. There are three small buttons that control sound, hands-free use and the microphone.Overall, it's an excellent product for the price - German engineering at its best.

So, firstly I'm not a audiophile, nor am I a professional reviewer, but i am your average consumer. I am a big fan of rap, EDM, club, trance and rock/metal. These headphones are brilliant! Certainly worth the £79. The base is exceptional, punchy and pronounced, without overshadowing the mids. The highs are sharp and precise, and the T's and S's in lyrics don't hurt your ears. The overall sound for my kind of music is amazing! However, i also like listening to swing, jazz and blues. These genres tend to sound a little muddy (almost muffled), however the headphones do pick up each individual instrument well enough to make that muddy sound difficult to concentrate on.The time where the muddiness is most present is piano pieces such as Ludovico Einaudi. Having just one instrument such as a piano playing, highlights the muffled sound. The build quality is exceptional, sturdy, heavy and with nice reassuring clicks. Cups are made of a memory foam type material surrounded in a fabric close to a soft swede (hard to explain). The headband is thin, yet comfy. The wire, tangle resistant and a nice length (will have a small amount of slack with your music playing in your pocket).PROS:- Sound- Build Quality- WireCONS:- Muddy sound to single instrument songs.

+ Great build quality+ Great noise isolation+ Good sound for price range- in-line mic is ok- Stiff headband means a lot of pressureBuild qualityBuild quality is premium throughout. High quality metal headband and very soft leather ear pads and lining. They fold comftqbly on big, secure hinges. The disconnectable headphone wire has a locking mechanism and is well insulated. Overall they feel extremely well built for headphones of this price.Sound qualityI'm not an expert in this field but to me it sounds good. Particularly nice for classical and jazz as the sound is well balanced. They aren't as bass heavy as most headphones on the market.Noise isolationThe firm headband presses the ear pads quite securely and therefore even without music playing outside noise is greatly reduced. This means you can listen at quieter volumes and hear music better in public places, saving both your eardrums and your iPhone battery. However the pressure might be too much for some, especially for all day listening.MicThe voice mic seems intermittent, often not picking up my voice against even quiet background noise such as inside a car. I generally disconnect these when I get a call.
