This was purchased to hold a women's 700c hybrid bike on a hitch mounted bike rack. We had been putting the bike on our old trunk mounted rack at obviously odd angles for quite some time. Figured it was time to purchase a bike beam to allow the bike and rack to be much more balanced.Like:- Easy to install on bike- Provides an easier mount on the bike racks- Ends lock into place securely- Ends have plastic covering the metal so it shouldn't scratch the bikeDislike:- Beam is not spring loaded- Beam does not have any locking mechanism on the bar itselfMy only real complaint is the bar does not have a spring or some type of lock on the bar. So when on the bike it kind of flops around.I ended up putting a velcro loop through the seat mount that I use to secure the beam on the back of the bike. This was to try to keep the bike from bouncing around on the mount as well as to try to keep the bar from destroying my rear reflector and light.

I had puchased a Trek woman's non road bike for my wife with a step thorough crossbar. None of this swing your leg over the seat for her. My old Toys R Us bike rack accommodated the configuration, although our bikes banged together which was not a good thing.I recently picked up a Saris Bones 3 bike carrier and there was no way I'd be hauling her bike with out a "bike beam." The instruction for use were clear. That means, read once, leave instructions in the house and go mount the bike on the bike rack. It works very well. It feels substantial and I have not noticed any scratching of the bike's finish from the plastic contact points. By design the Saris Bones separates the bikes and keeps them from coming in contact with each other.I don't know how the Saris compares to other bike beams as this was my first, but I am happy with the purchase.

The clips are very easy to open an close. The bar adjusts length easily. It's strong. I had no idea these existed, and had so much trouble getting my women's bike onto a bike rack, that I rarely did that because you had to put one of the handles in an awkward place, and the whole bike would be tilted. With this adapter, you clip it under the seat on one side, and under the handlebars on the other side, and instantly, you can hang your bike on your bike rack. I found that it worked best if I put my bike seat in the highest position before putting it on the rack. It worked so well, that I kept my bike rack mounted on my car all summer, and threw my bike on there several times a week to get to various trails.I never would have done that without this adapter!

superior product. my Yakima bike carrier is a cheap model with 2 perpendicular bars across the top. it worked fine for old type "boys" bikes with the cross bar. it didn't work well with bikes with no cross bar. i bought one of these at the bike store and it worked so well i bought another one here (a lot cheaper.) it takes sort of a knack to get the right length to fit on the bike and conveniently remove from the bike. you are supposed to take them off when riding. a small piece of tape on the bar reminds you of where it goes. the instructions also say they are not designed for the old kind of racks that use hooks.my bikes seem a lot more secure on the rack using these. note: these are not locks,i.e. they do not secure the bike from theft.

I have had this adapter for a little over 3 years and used it with the Saris Bones 801 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack. I have a Giant hybrid bike with a women-specific frame, which is hard to get through the Saris Bones 801 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack without the adapter. The frame is thick and the angle is about 45 degrees, which makes it hard to put on a rack. With the adapter, it is easier to mount the bike and holds the bike safely. The lock snaps easily without having to fuss around to remove it. Even with the easy locking mechanism, the bike stays secure while the car is running. I have brought my bike with me using this adapter on long drives (from Boston to Montreal and from Montreal to Chicago). The adapter did well on the long hauls.

My wife and I drive 20 minutes several times a week to go biking at our favorite trail. I was spending 10 minutes or more getting the men's 29" and women's mountain bikes onto the rack. There was only one way they would fit and so I had multiple pictures I would look at to compare if I got stuck (I'm telling you, it was a crazy setup to make it work). I finally bought the Saris Bike Beam and now the bikes are on the rack in under 2 minutes which saves us 16 minutes a day in loading and gives us that much more time to ride.Very happy with the purchase. The quality seems fine. I've used them maybe 15 times since I received them and so far they feel sturdy. Get this and go ride!

Its a great idea, but I have 3 very different bike frames I deal with and this doesn't deal well with each one every time. Perhaps there should be 2 or 3 different sizes with larger/small end anchors? I can't get one of them around the seat because of how it locks in place so I have to put it lower on the frame and then it doesn't sit on the bike rack properly and the bikes pedals get stuck in the other bikes' spokes due to the bad angle. I'm not sure of how it can be improved exactly since I'm not an engineer, but it doesnt really fit like I think it should on any of the 3 bike frames for the bike rack. Its good quality though and sturdy, that's why i gave it a good rating.

I have used this bar many, many times with no issues. From Dallas to Austin and back, and back again. Clamp it around the stem and seatpost, put the bike on the rack, and strap it down. It's simple to use. Make sure that the gold ball on the collar is face up and that it is not going to be crossed by your holddown strap. I would stress that you need to pay attention to how you hold the bar while you use it. If you hold it in the wrong place and it slides together and pinches you between the thumb and forefinger, you might not give it a 5 star review. Almost got me.

I bought this to make it easier to place my Nishiki Montour women's frame bicycle on our car's bike carrier. It fits perfectly. So many adapters start at 20", and the distance between my handlebar tube and the seat tube is 19 1/2". I only have to extend it 1.5", but there is much more length available for larger frames. There was a bit of a learning curve to opening it (duh!) but just push the little gold button and it swings open easily. Previously, the only way to get my bike to fit the carrier was to mount it upside down. This is a great product!

There have been mixed reviews about the various tension bars that are available, but they are an absolute necessity if you are going to travel with a step-thru frame style bike.First, I felt these were made pretty solid, and they clamp well. The extension of the bars is a little tough, but that also means it stays in place and keeps the bike sturdy. I've traveled down extremely hilly roads and up on the freeway with little worry that the bars would give. All in all, very decent product and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.

I just bought my wife a new bike and then went to put it on my Saris bones 2 rack. Well without a top tube this was not going to work so I started looking around for a solution and found this for about $50. It arrived quickly and the first thing I noticed was the quality of the build. Very solid. I then attached it to the bike as directed (couldn't be any easier) and there you have it, instant top bar to secure the bike with. I have used it many times and it is very attached to the bike once engaged. Highly recommend.

This bar makes it a snap to load my otherwise-nearly-impossible step-thru bikes onto my Saris Bones 3 rack, or onto any other adjustable multi-bike rack. Each end opens up by pressing a button and pulling (much like the support tubes on an outdoor canopy), and then clicks securely in place. The bike will dangle a bit loosely within the bar's grasp, but it will mount on the rack just fine.I even used it to load an electric bike onto the rack! The bike is 48 lbs., and the bar did just fine.

Works well and is solid. I would suggest measuring the distance from the headset to the seat post to make sure the bike is large enough to use with the beam if you plan to use it for a kids bike. It just barely works with my daughters Specialized Hotrock 20", but I have to take the seat post out of the tube to get it to fit. Anything smaller wouldn't work. It fits fine on my larger bikes (don't have to take the seat post out).

I prefer the lack of an inner tension spring, so I don't have to wrestle with the adapter to get it on and off the bike. This feels sturdy and the extra large end is convenient in that I don't have to remove my rear light from the seat post. The seat post and handlebar stem on my Trek Verve (Women's) are painted, and this hasn't done any damage to the finish after many uses. Overall, I'm very happy with it!

Although I wish this had come with the bike rack itself, it attaches to my fiancee's bike easily and makes mounting our bikes to our Saris rack a simple task. It's pretty straightforward and it's ruggedly designed. It IS metal instead of plastic so I wouldn't advise leaving it out in the rain - but I suppose you wouldn't leave your bikes out in the rain either. So yeah.
