Ordered this carrier on Prime and it came the next day, so I was pleased about that.Thought that it was easy enough to put together, not that much to do really.Having read some other reviews, regarding fitting the carrier onto the towball, I also bought the Maypole high rise towball, new bolts and cover. This is an Alko type of towball that has a longer neck below the ball. I thought that for a little bit extra, it was worth it to guarantee that the carrier would fit straight on ........it does do btw. I did not try the carrier on the existing towball. The only thing to remember is that you need to remove the paint from the towball itself, otherwise the carrier clamping mechanism will not grip properly. The Thule instructions actually state the force required to push the lever down to clamp onto the towball, come on Thule, how the hell can we guess that one......I tried it out, firstly as a dummy load up on the drive at home, and then in earnest, going on a short car journey loaded up and then a local cycle ride with my wife. What I have learnt so far.......IMO, you're never going to get the perfect load up per the Thule videos ....lol.We have two hybrids, they went on easily enough, as someone has already said, once you've loaded up a few times it will get quicker as you will know where to put the clamps. The only concession that I've had to make so far, is that I've had to lower the seat on one bike to stop it fouling on the gear change lever on the other bike.Perhaps if the wheel supports moved as singles, it would make it easier to position the bikes.Btw, we chose this type of carrier because obviously there's a towbar on the car. A rear tailgate mounted carrier cannot be used, the tailgate is not strong enough - 2015 Mondeo Estate.......plastic tailgate.Did not fancy lifting hybrids onto a roof mounted carrier, my wife can put the carrier on the car, and put the bikes on the carrier, she would not be able to lift the hybrids onto the roof safely. You get two keys with the carrier, I ordered two more from another provider, so I now have 4 keys, lucky me.As an aside, before buying the carrier, I viewed some YouTube videos of people assembling and putting them on their vehicles. I have to say that most of them left bits out, didn't really show fitting the carrier onto the car properly if at all, and most only showed loading single bikes, so you don't really see a true picture. ........i.e. it's a two bike carrier, let's see what you really had to do to put two bikes on.The Thule video at least shows two bikes being loaded.Overall it's a brilliant bit of kit.

I had a Witter bike carrier which had given sterling service, but with two ebikes we exceeded its stated weight capacity; for that reason we bought the Thule. This gives me the opportunity to contrast and compare. What a difference! Instead of using a socket set to attach it to the car a simple locking lever does it in seconds, yes, literally seconds. Once in position the carrier seems rock solid. The previous carrier always had a little "play".Putting on the bikes is easier, too. The wheels are attached securely with a notch and lever mechanism, the jaws which grip the bike frame are much more positive. There are locks for each of the bike jaws and the carrier attachment lever, they were "keyed alike".I believe the locks on the jaws would put off a casual thief, but, due to the value of the bikes I use an additional Gold Standard lock to secure them and the carrier to the towbar assembly. All security is relative a determined thief would have them off whatever you do!The carrier was almost completely assembled on unpacking, just the upright needing to be fitted in place. Others have said the instructions were not easy to follow and lacking in text. I found them clear and had no difficulty in putting it together in twenty minutes. It is easy to store and can be put in the back of my car with the lights pushed back to the storage position. I did not need to drop the upright, but this is a simple procedure. To sum up; I am pleased with the carrier, it is head and shoulders over my earlier one both in stability and ease of use. There is one caveat. The carrier is a replacement for one that failed on its first use. A small plastic trigger that allows the attachment lever to operate just fell out. Thule told me they had no similar failures and Amazon with its normal superb customer service gave me an immediate replacement. The current carrier has had six outings without problem.

I bought this after going back and forward between a hanging type bike rack system vs this platform based system. I didn't want to put the bikes on the roof because I have quite a tall car (an Audi Q7) and didn't want to worry about the vehicle height and the sometimes very low bridges we have here in the UK. I have an electrically retractable tow bar on my car which has a vertical weight limit of 150 KG. Even with this and 3 bikes it's still way under this limit, but this is something you should keep in mind if your bikes are quite big and heavy. I also had to convert the 7 pin connector to a 13 pin connector for my tow bar electrics, but this works just fine. Best check if you'll need one. You'll also need to fit an additional license plate on to the back of the bike rack, again, you can easily get one made from say Halfords.Pro's:* Easily takes 3 bikes varying in sizes from kid size to full adult size* Looks great* Bikes are locked into place by a key and the rack is locked into place on the tow bar* Folds to a smaller size for storage* The tilt feature is amazing to get into the boot and it wow's people any time I show it offCons:* It's solid construction makes it a little heavy* With no bikes on it, there is no way to fold it to reduce it's size while still on the tow bar* Patience will be required to put the bikes on, don't do this in a hurry and you may find you have to move the clamp bars around a little* Even with the bikes locked to the frame and the frame locked to the tow bar, there is a way to get the bikes off the frame, but it's not obvious

An excellent piece of kit, very practical for me as have a bad back and trying to shove a bike into the back of my estate car twisting and struggling is a painits a bit pricey, but it works really well very easy to fit on the towbar, one lever action, very stable simple bike fixing.Downside, the rack is bloody heavy, 14KG!...but so much easier to load your bikes on to it than twisting and struggling trying to get your bike\s into the back of your car. the so 'called loading ramp' which is an extra accessory, around £35-£46...is a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!...its a nasty bit of aluminium moulding, its not wide enough for any mountain bike fattish tyres, tries to jump off its fixing at the hook end of the ramp and has razor sharp edges where they have guillotined it to create the hooks..avoid...the rack itself 5 stars..although a bit heavy..if your issue is you cant bend and twist to get your bike in the back of a car but do have a towbar then this is the rack to buy..if you can lift your bike 18inches straight up and plonk it onto the rack...its the dogs bits! thoroughly recommend. NB if you have a 13 pin plug on your car you will need a 7 pin adapter for the racks lights....Oh es..Thule...why aren't your lights on the rack LED instead of silly old fashioned bulbs.......come on its the 21st century...

So prompt delivery! Which is a good start.Did have a couple of minor issues on assembly, but I put that down to me not looking the the instruction properly (when assembling the cross member and attaching to tow bar, I had to wind the adjustment screw right out!)One the adjustment screw was correctly set, attachment/removal to the tow bar was simple.Bikes - we have a 'step through' electric bike, so I was a little concerned (having read some of the reviews) about how it would be held to the rack! Relief, wasn't an issue. I managed to attached the bike using the lower bike cross member, so there was no need to buy an adapter. But please note this may not be the case all for all bikes.2nd bike is a little close to the 1st bike in one place, but a bit of pipe lagging has sorted it.I also had to turn both the handle bars 90 degrees on both bikes.Only other point worth mentioning is when mounting the bikes, just make sure they are central and not sticking out more on one side than the other. So first impression (following a quick test drive as well) no issues, the rack with the bikes attached is sturdy & secure, holds the bikes well with the existing kit provided, so would recommend itWill try and update once we have been on a proper run with it.

Some self-assembly required, tools supplied. Unboxed, assembled and ready to mount on the car inside 30 minutes.Well made. VERY heavy at 19kg, which combined with the size and awkward shape makes it a challenge to lift and carry, but once you've got it to the car mounting it on the towbar is fairly straightforward. Grip on towbar is adjustable, needs a good push on the handle to lock it on (instructions advise 43kg pressure but how you're supposed to measure that I've no idea).Getting bikes on it is a doddle compared to the Thule roof-mounted carriers we've been using. Plenty of room for two bikes, snug for three. Bikes are held securely and barely move, even on bumpy roads.Bought a 7 to 13 pin adaptor.Big mistake - very fiddly to fit and didn't work (see my review on that). So the adaptor is in the bin, replaced with a 13 pin plug which in turn replaced the 7 pin which came with the carrier.Haven't yet figured out where to store it. Currently when not in use it sits on the floor in the dining room, planning to buy some strong hooks to hang it on the wall in the garage. But not too high or I'll never get it up there.

After researching multiple bike racks, this one seemed to tick all the functions I wanted, appeared to have good build quality and whilst not cheap compared to others not expensive. Now it's arrived and clamped onto my car, I can confirm quality wise its spot on feels very solid and not too heavy (though, isn't light.) but very quick & easy to attach and my bikes feel rock solid... only thing missing when compared to higher up models is outside of bike count - it doesn't have the ability to fold up in any meaningful way but that doesn't bother me as it'll sit in my shed when not used, but if you want something that folds up neatly for travels & can be carried/wheeled around perhaps look at the upper models.Update: If transporting Carbon frames, you have to buy the AcuTight knob upgrade & (yes and) Carbon Adapter strap... the conventional tightening knob will apply uneven pressure to carbon which has a high probability of damaging carbon, the acutight knob paired with carbon adapter clicks when it reaches optimum tightness.

Very good product. Folds down neat and compact. Relatively light and easy to handle. The tow bar attachment process once first set up is exceptionally easy. 1 mountain bike is rock solid and easy to fit. I have an Orange full suspension bike and arm attaches to top tube securely and easily. Very broad channels for wide mtb tyres and plenty wide enough so will take a longer wheelbase bike. Easy mount for number plate. Tilting rack to access boot is very slick and easy.Negatives are fewAdapter for 13pin to 7 makes plugging the lights in fiddly and awkward.Could do with rubber sleeves for wheel straps to protect rims and make better fit.Not tried 2 bikes yet.Only issue I can see is getting arm passed bike 1 frame and finding a secure connection to seat/down/top tube of bike 2. I think should be ok but needing some faffing to get right. Just depends on frame size and shape.Overall good design, well built and good quality materials. Feels like this is good for 10 years plus if properly stored.

This is perhaps the most adaptable bike carrier I've used. But the wheel straps are too short (order the 985000 xxl fat bike straps) and the space between the bikes is a bit too narrow. It's fine for casual/road bikes, but for modern long mountain bikes, there's not quite enough space because of the wider forks, wider chainstays (blame boost spacing), fatter tyres. For the money the arms could be more adaptable, with more joints or the clamp have more axes of freedom to twist and rotate, because mountain bike frames have complicated and often space limited frames. It doesn't come with any wheel rim protection, so if you've got carbon rims you need to find something to go between the strap and the rim. It's compact and lighter than other bike carriers. I also recommend lowering saddles when transporting, it helps!!!

Easy to fit onto the towbar and even easier to fit a mans and women bike onto the rack, my bike fitted direct to the attachements, but I had to purchase a frame adaptor for my wifes bike which was perfect for the job. Only minor assenbly of the bike rack needed out of the box. Used it in Europe on holiday no problems, electrics worked well, rack was sturdy and is lockable. Quick glance through easy instructions, first time of use took me only 10 minutes to attach to towbar and load bikes.....simple. Would definately recommend, but you will need an adaptor for a female bike. Finally the number plate does not need drilling and any standard rear plate will fit and the plate locks in place by using plastic clips which you first have to remove easy to do and very secure once fitted. This frame is a great piece of kit.

It weighs 14kg - up to you to decide if this is heavy or not. I find I can fit it easily onto my rear tow ball. Incidentally I had a removable one fitted for 400 eur and then added this rack. High quality product. Stable and takes 2 heavy Trek bikes. It locks onto the towbar with the same key that locks the 2 arms from the rack to the bikes. Both the locking arms and the straps for the bike wheels are well made, movable and don't scratch the bikes. The only slight issue I had to work out was that the upright hoop bar needs to be 'loose' with the 2 round knobs 'undone' in order to click it down so that it remains upright and the reverse, click up, to fold it flat for storing in the boot of the car. Can't fault it at all.Fully recommended and great value for money.

So this little carrier is very very good. It’s strong and sturdy and easy to mount and load. I feel comfortable with the bikes on the backI had a problem with assembly. The upright U-Shaped bar needs very firmly pushed in to be in the correct position. The nuts and bolts will still engage, but, with wind pressure it will gradually move from a vertical position down. I had to disassemble this and redo it by the roadside. I presume the variable nut position allows easier collapse and storage. I can see from the reviews I’m now the only one that struggled with this.Overall I’m very pleased with it.I can’t imagine replacing this in the next ten years and I’m very comfortable with expensive bikes on the back.

Easy to assemble (there isn’t much to assemble), easy to hitch and secure 3 bikes (<3min) and impressed with the attention to detail incl. lock on carrier, lock on bike clamps, electrics... It's also reasonably priced - not sure why you'd buy the big brother model for another £150+. I'm hitching on a Volvo XC90 and it extends to be a perfect fit/width. Lastly, it's not a negative for me as I can cope but it's on the heavy side for taking out of storage and hitching. Not sure how it compares to others but suspect they all are in order to be sturdy enough. Bottom line: absolute no brainer.

Bought this superb bike rack on eBay at a good price. Very easy to assemble and fit to my tow ball. The tow ball clamp does need a lot of pressure to secure it, which wasn’t clear in the instructions, but once done you won’t forget in future. Very sturdy construction and simple to fit the bikes on. No movement once everything tightened. Also the locking system means you can walk away for a short while without fear of theft. The tilt action gives quick access to the rear hatch and locks back in place with a satisfying clunk. Very happy customer.

I decided to purchase the relatively expensive Thule brand and have not been disappointed. It sits on the tow ball very firmly and supports the two bikes with confidence. It is obviously well manufactured and folds flat to hang on the wall if required. Ensure that you lower and tightly secure the vertical crossbar frame before driving off. I forgot once and nearly had an expensive accident. The folding function is very useful when you want access to the boot. Easy to use however and would highly recommend.
