This has been a difficult review to write, not least as I was in two minds whether it should get a one star (I HATE IT) or a five star (I LOVE IT) rating. Let me explain the reason for the difficulty, and my reasoning for going for the five star option despite what you are about to read. So here's the thing, I am a supposedly responsible and mature man. A grandfather of seven, father of eight, an award-winning journalist no less. Yet I managed to down two-thirds of a bottle of this stuff in one two hour window. No, I am not an alcoholic. In fact, for the past year I had been teetotal, not my decision but courtesy of medication that I am thankfully no longer on. A huge fan of Jim Beam Black, which has vanished from most everywhere now, I was lured in by those TV adverts for the new Double Oak variety. Duly ordered, and delivered the next day, I took one shot to experience the new taste. For whatever reason, and believe me I have given it a lot of thought, it didn't end there and shot followed shot. Within an hour and a half to two hours the bottle was down two thirds. Although I'm a big man (6'2" and 15 stone) I too went down. Literally. When I awoke the next morning, courtesy of a very understanding partner who had got me into bed somehow, I did not escape the consequences. No hangover to speak of, god alone knows how, but contact lenses stuck into eyeballs as had not removed them in my drunken state. Yesterday I spent an hour at the GP surgery, followed by two hours in A&E and finally two hours at the hospital eye clinic where a consultant eye surgeon managed to remove the stuck and wedged lenses after much numbing, lubricating, eyelid inverting, eye clamping and other horrible stuff. Did I enjoy the taste of Jim Beam Double Oak? Hell yes! Did I enjoy the fact that I drank so much and the after-effects? Hell no! I am now, in all seriousness, going back to being teetotal even though I'm off the medication in question. I do not, ever, want to find myself in such a situation again. I do not ever want to be asking myself these questions, wondering just what led me to drink so much. So I have given the drink a five star rating: I loved the taste, and ultimately I love that the last alcoholic beverage I consumed tasted so good. I even love that by drinking it so irresponsibly it has driven my decision never to drink again. Yep, I know that's probably not the kind of review you were expecting, but I felt that I had to open up in a kind of confessional manner here. Who knows, it might help answer a few of those lingering questions I still have to resolve within myself. Call it retail therapy of a very different kind...

Jim Beam 'Double Oak' is head and shoulders above the bog-standard Jim Beam White Label, which is marginally cheap per volume than this superior offering from the famous purveyor of Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey. Which is strange, considering that this 'Double Oak' edition is essentially the same as the 'White Label', in that it is matured in American Oak barrels for 4 years, but then removed and further matured in another American Oak barrel for an indeterminate amount of time. This sound like a fairly trivial extra step in maturation process that wouldn't yield any significant benefits. Yet, it does. I find the 'White Label' only just about drinkable neat. Normally I'd use it to mix in a coffee or something.I have drunk it neat on a fair number of occasions, but let's be honest, Jim Beam 'White Label' has never been anything other than a cheap, mass produced, very bog-standard bourbon, always lacking good body or resonant flavour. The 'Double Oak' on the other hand has far more depth of flavour. It's smooth, but very dry, and surprisingly more oak-ey and somewhat less sweet than its immature counterpart. It has a more rounded, stable flavour, and a nice warmth to it. I picked up a bottle of this at a local supermarket for £18, 70cl, which was well worth it. Granted, it was on a discount at the time. After all is said and done, the Jim Beam 'Double Oak' stands on its own two feet as a neat sipping whisky, and is hands down worth the extra money over the 'White Label'. If you want a bourbon for mixing, by 'White Label'. If you want a bourbon for drinking neat, buy this. Recommended.

Being a spirit drinker, whiskey my tipple of choice, I'm always on the lookout to try a new take on the classic varieties (liqueurs I pass on). Recently confining myself to Jack Daniels I decided to jump into the other bourbon pond of Mr Jim Beam.Had the standard Jim Beam and Devil's Cut variations (also very good) in the past but this caught my eye and with it's good price and 43% vol strength it seemed like a good in-between bottle which you can't find on the supermarket shelves.PackagingDepends on the seller, some come boxed, mine came unboxed but we're not ordering for the box, are we?ColourSubtle Amber colour, a slight shade below Jack Daniels no 7 blendNoseWood (well it is double oak matured),slight fragrance of sandalwood combined with a caramel scentTasteSlightly sweet on the front of the tongue, caramel with a pleasant charred wood aftertaste, smooth with no burn on the way down, unusual for a 43% tippleWhile this certainly makes enough of an impression to make me want to try it again it doesn't replace Jack Daniels no7 or the Single Barrel (Angels Reserve) as my favourite bourbon hence the four stars.I hope this review helped you. If so, I would appreciate it if you clicked on the Yes button for a helpful review. If you have any questions, please ask. I am pretty responsive to comments

I have never tasted Bourbon whiskey before and in order to road this whiskey I had to buy a decent malt whiskey to compare the two. Such is life. The Jim beam twice barrelled whiskey, has a smooth velvety taste, it had a warming feel in the throat, not the burning sensation that I have associated with cheap whiskeys that I have had in the passed. Jim Beam produced his first barrel of whiskey in 1795, so he has had plenty time to perfect this product. I think he has achieved this as I much preferred This Double Oak twice barrelled bourbon whiskey to the malt I bought to compare it with . The Bourbon is first aged in American white oak barrels then poured into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time, the added interaction with the oak wood gives the whiskey an intense smooth taste, which I love. The whiskey is 43%vol, so has a kick to it, but it's a sipping drink and is best savoured poured over a few ice cubes to bring out the Intense caramel and toffee flavours with a distinctive spiced oakiness. This is a bourbon whiskey that I will purchase again, there are others in this range,Jim Beam Apple, Jim Beam Red Stag, Jim Beam Honey, which I'm excited to try next. Fantastic product, great value and all round lovely tipple, so it's 5* from me folks.

I'm a big Bourbon fan and i've bought a good few in my life: Blantons, Four Roses, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace ETC. However Jim Beam has always been something i've turned my nose up at. It's basic, generic and one of the weaker Bourbon brands on the market in my opinion, I wasn't planning on buying this until a friend got me a shot with coke one night out. My jaw almost hit the flaw when he told me it was a Jim Beam. I decided to buy a bottle and honestly this is a legitimately great Bourbon! It's rich, refined and balanced. It certainly has the woody type of flavour as advertised. This is a huge step up from their regular Jim Beam product; so much so that I would rather save my money and buy this every time over their original product. Is it the greatest whisky in the world? No. absolutely not. but it's a fantastic go-to Bourbon for cosy nights in and an excellent mixer for Coke and easily the best Jim Beam ever made! Would certainly recommend.

I am new to bourbon and can only compare this to JD No7 and Jim Beam white label. I love Jim Beam white label but was intrigued by this one. It’s colour is a deeper caramel colour and the nose is much stronger. The prominent taste to me is oak followed by vanilla with a hint of maple with a very mild burn to fade out. It is very smooth and I love it. However I think I will save this for those times when a little extra is needed. I think that if I drink this too often it’ll become sickly as it’s quite sweet so I’ll stick with white label and bring this one out as a treat although for a single measure this is the better of the 2. Moderation is the key for this one.. at least for me.

I am an avid whisky drinker and love trying different brands but mainly stick to single malt scotch as my drink of choice. Now and again I like to sit with a nice bourbon and have tried the usual like Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and the excellent Evan Williams. I saw this on offer on Amazon and thought I'd give it a go and I'm so glad I did. I find it far superior to Jack Daniels No7 and on a par with Evan Williams extra aged bourbon. I add just a couple of drops of water and find it smooth with a rich smoky taste and nice fiery after taste which isn't harsh at all. It's a wonderful sipping whisky and I would never waste it as a mixer. So glad I tried it as it is now a firm favorite.

The Jim Beam twice barelled bourbon whisky has impressed me. Its flavour is full and there is no tail. I am a whisky lover but generally go for the supermarket own brands or Bells. I compared this bourbon to my supermarket brand 3 year whisky. Compared to this the bourbon had a fabulous rich amd full flavour. I did notice the oakiness but in a good way. I have tried Jim Beams usual bourbon before and did not like it as found it rough. I think Jim Beams have done something rather clever and I would buy it, as I have checked the price and its only about a third more so I could buy it for specialoccassions.

Started drinking bourbon since late last year after buying Jims Devil Cut, since then ive been hooked on the stuff. Nothing like a glass or two at night especially as the nights are drawing in and getting colder. Tried many top brands since last year, and found Jim Beam has always been the best. JD, even theyre Single Barrel and Gentleman Jack cant compare to Jim Beam. Jim's twice barreled, beautiful stuff, best bourbon ive had so far. Could easily have a night in and get through the whole bottle. Well made and well priced. Tastes better than things 3/4 times more expensive.

Beautifully bottled whiskey. Has a distinct somewhat dignified woody flavour with a slight understand of something I can't pinpoint...nutmeg perhaps? There's a hint of spice lingering in the aftertaste. There is another flavour lingering under the surface, something like caramelised sugar perhaps. The flavour is quite balanced, I'd say it doesn't have the same flavour as a Scottish or Irish whiskey...I didn't find it quite as hot if that makes sense. Somewhat smoother and somewhat sweeter. That just might be my opinion though.Highly recommend. Would make a great gift.

JB has had a very favourable responce from our house guests over the last few weeks. Of course none of them could tell that it had gone through the double barrelled treatment, just that the taste was very smooth..."and could I have another please." A general comment was the very pleasant sweetness with a couple of friends saying it was really good as a mixer. I think the price is reasonable (despite the tax folk getting a whacking cut) and it looks like I'll need another bottle soon, or maybe hide this one when friends come round.

I'm normally a scotch drinker, but will drink bourbon for a change.I like Beam white label, black is better, and double oak is different, but on a par, with black label. If I had to choose between them?Well I don't,but this puts white label in the shade,so well worth the extra money,if the price is right.I'd suggest Woodford Reserve also as a decent bourbon,Gentleman Jim isn't too bad either, and for those who don't love sweetness(myself included)rye makes a nice alternative. But this will do nicely for now.

When it comes to American bourbon whiskey I've always much preferred Jim Beam to Jack Daniels. Compared to the usual Jim Beam bourbon you'll find on a supermarket shelf this double oak whiskey, matured in two separate barrels of different types of oak, has a smoother, more subtle, lovely taste. At 43% proof (3% more than the other Jim Beam) it will still put fire in your belly and makes a pleasant change from the Scottish whiskeys I usually drink. I'll definitely be buying this one again.

I am not a great drinker, I don't really see the subtleties of wine or shorts so I gave this to my OH to try.He is not a whisky lover but said he would try it for the sake of an experiment (very good of him) and he was pleasantly surprised! He said it is very smooth, nicely warming on the way down and settles very nicely in the belly. He also said he can taste the oak barrels which added a lovely flavour. All in all a success BUT I am gonna have to buy more now !!

My favourite whisky has long been Lagavulin, a smokey, slightly oily Islay single malt. But I've always liked the US bourbon style for a change. This one seems less sweet than many and is certainly much more complex after all that oak ageing. I'm enjoying having the occasional small slug late evening and sipping it with an espresso and 70% chocolate. Delicious, and it will last me quite a while. Definitely not one to gulp down.
