Bought as part of a full Thule set (parts ordered separately) of 753 feet, wing bar 961 and fitting kit.After fitting the bars, this part was easy albeit the instructions were still pretty cryptic (but not as bad as the other pieces).Only put bike on once to test but seemed rock solid and pretty easy considering first try. It's on an Audi Q3 which I thought would be high to lift the bike but it was easy. This was a road bike, my tourer would probably be heavier/harder.Some internet reading advises putting a sign in the dash to remind you your bikes sitting up high - so you don't end up hitting them.

These are really good bike carriers. What I like is:- it's easy to install (I fitted them on Thule Wing Edge bars)- it's got a built-in cable lock to help secure the bike- it's easy to mount the bike on - unless you've got a heavy mountain bike and a car with a high roof- It's easy to unmount the bike from - again, unless your bike is heavy and your car roof is high.- it doesn't put any pressure on the frame - great if you've got an expsneive carbon-frame bike- it copes with a wide range of wheel sizes for adult bikes - even the 29" x 2.3" on my MTB- once installed, the carrier itself is reasonably secure /

The product looks well thought out, well made, robust but yet light, and accounts for thin framed road bikes, standard frames including hydrid, and chunky mountain bike frames. There are two settings to account for the different frame widths, with a rubberised insert for each of the two settings. Once on, the item looks well made, and of well thought out design. Unfortunately, despite we reasonable grasp of instructions, and my technical nature, the instructions are poor. Small diagrams means you may be scratching your head. FYI, there are two sets of instructions for the main assembly, one for the square section roof bars, one for the cut-outs, once that is worked out, things become a little easier.

Having been put off by others saying that this will fit only thule bars and then researching other makes, I eventually took the plunge with the pro ride.Firstly this does fit non thule bars. I have t track nordrive bars and the t track adapter that comes with the 598 fitted perfectly. You only need an adapter if your bars t track is wider than about 3cm (some BMW bars have wider tracks) in which case you need the wider t track adapter or if no t track you need the u clamps (£5) from Halfords.Assembling the 598 is pretty straight forward and when secured is rock solid, it took a few go's of getting the bike up there but once you have the hang of it it's pretty easy. An excellent piece of kit - well thought out and providing a really good support for the bike.The revised clamp arrangement would appear to reduce the ease with which people are able to steal the bike simply by undoing the wheel straps and twisting the frame out of the clamp. That-said, I'd still lock the bike to the car too.The only problem I experienced was that on the very first journey, the three cam-clamps holding the bike rack to the cross-bars all came loose allowing the whole system/bike to rock a little from side to side. There was no danger of it coming off and I assume it was my error in fitting it - perhaps just be doubly aware when first fitting it.

Having just spent a serious amount of money on a new bike, it was time to upgrade my roof rack. With a carbon frame, it is essential not to compress the bike's downtube, and this roof rack is expressly designed not to do that. The instructions are quite long, which is misleading because the rack is easy to fit to just about any type of roof bar. Once fitted, you get the impression of solidity; this rack is going nowhere.Mounting the bike to the rack is easy. Just position the adjustable arm and tighten the ratchet until it clicks; the bike is secure at the down tube, without any crushing action. The wheel straps are easy to fix, and the bike is secure. Of course, there is a keyed lock too,

The 532 Freeride is a great cycle carrier at a reasonable price - this is the third one I have bought. They attach easily to my Thule Wingbars, but come with the fittings for regular square bars as well. They don't make much noise on the car when not carrying a bike, and the reduction in fuel consumption was negligible. They lock to the bike and the car, so will help put off the opportunist. The instructions are not particularly clear, but check out YouTube and you will be fine. Can be assembled for right or left hand on the car. Easily adjustable for different size bikes - have used it successfully with road, mountain and kids bikes. The only thing to watch (and hence why I have dropped a star)

Excellent bike carrier and easy to fit and take out.Be aware that if you use the fittings for the internal rails of the roof bars, the bars may get warped, which I thought it was not really safe, in my case I had fitted a Norddrive roof-bars, not sure if the same issue would occur with the Thule roof-bars. So I had to buy the additional adapters that grip under the actual roof-bars and seems much safer and the roof-bars do not suffer any warping.Enjoy riding, after all that's why you want them !The negative side of the experience was the packaging, on delivery, the postman came up the stairs using the box as a walking stick! The box was broken and the plastic end was scratched.... basically,

I have been looking for a roof mounted cycle carrier for a while and kept coming back to the Thule. Others were cheaper but nothing like as well made and others more expensive but did not do the job any better for the extra money. In the end I think I have made the correct decision as the carrier is easy to use. Once the clamp is adjusted to suit your bike it is a doddle to use (set up the clamp to suit your bike before you mount the carrier on the car, as it is much easier to do at ground level!!). The bike is held very securely and is easy to mount/ remove. Just one word of caution though, the locks that secure the carrier to the car and the bike to the carrier are made of plastic,

Bit nervous using this as the previous version did have a design flaw. Updated model has since fixed this flaw and it works perfectly with additional security!Had two bike sin the roof and was doing motorway speeds with a 50mph headwind at the same time (Figure taken from news on the day) and even though the bikes wobbled and I could feel it in the steering of the car, not once did they break free or cause any issue. Definitely solidified my confidence in these bike racks. would recommend to others!Added bonus, you can flip the central holding clamp around so that you can have both bikes face forward and not have the awkward doodaa of trying to get the bike over the clamp and bumping the roof

I bought the Thule Freeride due to wanting to transport my bikes to and from trail centres etc. Whilst purchasing this I also needed to buy roof bars, this meant I had to check my budget. In the end I settled on the Freeride due to the cost, the reviews I had read, the security and also of their effective ability to securely hold the bikes.If I’m honest and had I had the money I would likely have bought the Proride or the thru-axle model, but that being said the Freeride does what it needs to.I have really only one concern and that is the clamp, which I’m sure will be fine, but I have this thought that it’s going to scratch my bike frames unnecessarily.

Excellent product but very disappointed that I had to buy the carbon frame protector extra. These are a premium brand and product and it really should be included.As far as the carrier is concerned its superb, easy to mount a bike, fastens at exactly the right torque with the built in torque click system and the bikes don't move an inch. A big improvement in security from the earlier version which could have the bike twisted out even when locked as this one has a much better claw system. I also slip a bike lock on as well and lock the bike to the rails as an extra visible deterrent.They are also very quiet,

Started with the thule freeride for a regular carbon frame hardtail. The bike was light and had a lower down tube which worked well for that type of mtb. Since have changed to a full suspension with more weight and higher down tube meaning the bike was held near the BB as the supporting arms couldn't extend any further limiting the support and stability causing the bike to sway when turning, also causes scratches to the frame regardless of covering the frame before securing the clasp. So replaced with the upride and is perfect as it's secured via the front wheel leaving frame's with a high geometry undamaged. There is still a wobble with this model but I'm happy that the front wheel is staying put in the rack.

I bought this to compliment my Thule 943 3-bike carrier, so I can now carry 4 bikes, without exceeding my nose-weight.I was confident it would be great, and it is...It secures my square Marin Quake 9.0 monocoque MTB frame perfectly (once I had adjusted the wheel rests)My only observation is that the only thing stopping thieves whipping your bike is a lockable knob/clamp holding onto your frame, which wouldn't take much force to pull off. But there seems to be a finger hole at the end of each wheel strap that would accept a padlock, I think if you put a couple of locks through the finger holds, that might slow down the scum.
