Confirming that this fits a Jeep Wranger TJ with standard size spare wheel mounted on the boot. The optional extra adaptor bar is not needed. Thule customer services were useless with any sizing help.Easy to construct form the packaging using the single allen key supplied. There are handy plastic clips to fit a rear number plate. The rear light clusters & the wheel holders slide inwards a short distance for storage. Fitting onto the tow ball is a little difficult & needs some side to side twisting until it drops over the ball. Folding down the handle over the tow ball can be very tight - I sometimes have to stand on the handle. Once fitted, it seems very secure. Although we have only two mountain bikes,I bought the 3-carrier as I had expected to lose a slot with the spare wheel. It turned out that I could use all 3 slots. However with our hard-tail mountain bikes, I found that I needed an empty slot between them otherwise there was contact with the front suspension cables or rear derailleur cables. The supplied frame clamps are very good indeed, offering a solid but soft clamp that does not risk damage, even when the bikes are dirty. The ratchet straps for the wheels work well, but when the rims are dirty I like to wipe a small area clean to avoid abrasion damage. When travelling (I don't exceed 50mph with the rack attached), the rack appears entirely stable, although there is some slight side to side wriggle movement from the front wheels - hence my abrasion concerns. Although we both have black rims, there appears to be no abrasion damage from the straps so far. Even though we have an empty slot between the bikes, we need to lower the seat on both bikes to avoid impact from the (760mm) handle bars. The bikes can be fitted to & removed from the rack in only 1 or 2 minutes. Removing the rack can be tight, we find it best to loosen & then move the rack from side to side to release it.In all, I'm very pleased with the performance of the rack. I would like softer wheel traps & can also see that these may need to be replaced after a year or two. I would also like a way to stop any movement of the front wheels for longer journeys.

I had a Witter bike carrier which had given sterling service, but with two ebikes we exceeded its stated weight capacity; for that reason we bought the Thule. This gives me the opportunity to contrast and compare. What a difference! Instead of using a socket set to attach it to the car a simple locking lever does it in seconds, yes, literally seconds. Once in position the carrier seems rock solid. The previous carrier always had a little "play".Putting on the bikes is easier, too. The wheels are attached securely with a notch and lever mechanism, the jaws which grip the bike frame are much more positive. There are locks for each of the bike jaws and the carrier attachment lever, they were "keyed alike".I believe the locks on the jaws would put off a casual thief, but, due to the value of the bikes I use an additional Gold Standard lock to secure them and the carrier to the towbar assembly. All security is relative a determined thief would have them off whatever you do!The carrier was almost completely assembled on unpacking, just the upright needing to be fitted in place. Others have said the instructions were not easy to follow and lacking in text. I found them clear and had no difficulty in putting it together in twenty minutes. It is easy to store and can be put in the back of my car with the lights pushed back to the storage position. I did not need to drop the upright, but this is a simple procedure. To sum up; I am pleased with the carrier, it is head and shoulders over my earlier one both in stability and ease of use. There is one caveat. The carrier is a replacement for one that failed on its first use. A small plastic trigger that allows the attachment lever to operate just fell out. Thule told me they had no similar failures and Amazon with its normal superb customer service gave me an immediate replacement. The current carrier has had six outings without problem.

Very good carrier. A couple of minor niggles keeps it off a 5 which are:1. The instruction booklet is woeful - I am poor at DIY and although it comes mostly assembled there are a couple of things to do (with supplied allen key). Even so the instruction book of cartoons could be so much better - for instance to assemble the frame arms that hold the bikes you need to make sure the 'knobs' are unlocked, then undo them to give you enough leeway to be able to separate the connectors for assembly onto the correct bracket. Put into position, assemble and then tighten. Nothing at all in the instructions saying that! Okay being able to remove them is good given you won't always be carrying 3 bikes but you gotta know how to put them on and off!2.For me, the power cable connector could be a little longer and have better positional straps so that you can adjust subject to your cars need.3. Make sure the collapsable back bar is tightly secured - if not you risk it moving and possibly damaging your car and / or bike.4. While it is good to have the locking function with same key I am not convinced that they are that sturdy. Still a deterrent of sorts. The tension of the clamping mechanism obviously needs to be (and is) adjustable, it took me a good few minutes to get this just right and should be fine if I keep it on the same car (only minor adjustments needed each time I take it off (loosen) and put back on (tighten). If I change car with different type of towbar then obviously more adjustments needed. It is a close and fiddly job to actually get 3 bikes on the rack so expect to spend a few minutes on trial and error. However, once correctly on - beware! It is an excellent product, very secure with very little movement noticed - so when it comes to parking don't forget it is on!

you might wonder why I say that this is a life saver. Well turns out BMW has made folding rear seats an option extra and my car does not have them. Which lead me to get either a roof rack or tow bar, I opted for the tow bar then I could tow a trailer too.I just got my toe bar fitted to my car and managed to try it out the same day.To assemble the rack does not take long all that needs done is pop a number plate on, and mount the rear bar that holds the poles that secure to your bike frame, took me less than 10 minutes and all the tools you require are included (1 hex key 6 or 5mm)The rack had 4 locks in total that all use the same key that you get two of.one for the tow bar to stop it being removed from your car and one for each of the arms holding your bike.your bikes will be secured to the frame as you have to loosen the clamp arms fully before you can release the clamp holding the arm to the bike rack and once locked there is no way to get this offthe bike rack is easy to install the bikes to and does not take long before you set off.As for weight and moving it about, its not heavy and can be carried by one person easily but its not something my gran could lift or a kid, by this I am meaning you wont be throwing it about the placeThe bike rack is another example from Thule of a high quality product, although more expensive, is definitely the brand I will chose in future for there high quality and ease of use.Just as a side note I was unable to fit this into the boot of my BMW 3 series saloon so when I go out with it, I will either have to leave it attached to the car, which I do feel its secure enough to do, or put on the back seats

I bought this after going back and forward between a hanging type bike rack system vs this platform based system. I didn't want to put the bikes on the roof because I have quite a tall car (an Audi Q7) and didn't want to worry about the vehicle height and the sometimes very low bridges we have here in the UK. I have an electrically retractable tow bar on my car which has a vertical weight limit of 150 KG. Even with this and 3 bikes it's still way under this limit, but this is something you should keep in mind if your bikes are quite big and heavy. I also had to convert the 7 pin connector to a 13 pin connector for my tow bar electrics, but this works just fine. Best check if you'll need one. You'll also need to fit an additional license plate on to the back of the bike rack, again, you can easily get one made from say Halfords.Pro's:* Easily takes 3 bikes varying in sizes from kid size to full adult size* Looks great* Bikes are locked into place by a key and the rack is locked into place on the tow bar* Folds to a smaller size for storage* The tilt feature is amazing to get into the boot and it wow's people any time I show it offCons:* It's solid construction makes it a little heavy* With no bikes on it, there is no way to fold it to reduce it's size while still on the tow bar* Patience will be required to put the bikes on, don't do this in a hurry and you may find you have to move the clamp bars around a little* Even with the bikes locked to the frame and the frame locked to the tow bar, there is a way to get the bikes off the frame, but it's not obvious

An excellent piece of kit, very practical for me as have a bad back and trying to shove a bike into the back of my estate car twisting and struggling is a painits a bit pricey, but it works really well very easy to fit on the towbar, one lever action, very stable simple bike fixing.Downside, the rack is bloody heavy, 14KG!...but so much easier to load your bikes on to it than twisting and struggling trying to get your bike\s into the back of your car. the so 'called loading ramp' which is an extra accessory, around £35-£46...is a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!...its a nasty bit of aluminium moulding, its not wide enough for any mountain bike fattish tyres, tries to jump off its fixing at the hook end of the ramp and has razor sharp edges where they have guillotined it to create the hooks..avoid...the rack itself 5 stars..although a bit heavy..if your issue is you cant bend and twist to get your bike in the back of a car but do have a towbar then this is the rack to buy..if you can lift your bike 18inches straight up and plonk it onto the rack...its the dogs bits! thoroughly recommend. NB if you have a 13 pin plug on your car you will need a 7 pin adapter for the racks lights....Oh es..Thule...why aren't your lights on the rack LED instead of silly old fashioned bulbs.......come on its the 21st century...

So prompt delivery! Which is a good start.Did have a couple of minor issues on assembly, but I put that down to me not looking the the instruction properly (when assembling the cross member and attaching to tow bar, I had to wind the adjustment screw right out!)One the adjustment screw was correctly set, attachment/removal to the tow bar was simple.Bikes - we have a 'step through' electric bike, so I was a little concerned (having read some of the reviews) about how it would be held to the rack! Relief, wasn't an issue. I managed to attached the bike using the lower bike cross member, so there was no need to buy an adapter. But please note this may not be the case all for all bikes.2nd bike is a little close to the 1st bike in one place, but a bit of pipe lagging has sorted it.I also had to turn both the handle bars 90 degrees on both bikes.Only other point worth mentioning is when mounting the bikes, just make sure they are central and not sticking out more on one side than the other. So first impression (following a quick test drive as well) no issues, the rack with the bikes attached is sturdy & secure, holds the bikes well with the existing kit provided, so would recommend itWill try and update once we have been on a proper run with it.

Great bike rack but be careful!!!I ordered this bike rack recently and it is excellent and well made. However the second time I used it I put my foot on the tilt lever without the bikes on it (demonstrating to my neighbour how it worked!) and the rack flew towards me quickly and one of the metal arms which clamps on to the bikes hit me on my face and really hurt me. Luckily my glasses protected my eye but I think it could have been really serious if I wasn't wearing them. As it was I had a terrible black eye which is still there 6 weeks on. The manual does have a picture saying to be careful of your head when tilting the bikes but I am going to contact Thule and suggest they need to change themanual to say not to use the tilt mechanism without holding the rack or removing the arms which clamp onto the bikes.I would still recommend this rack but am worried about other people getting hurt hence posting this and contacting Thule.Another thing to think about is where you will store it. I am keeping it in my boot as I don't have enough floor space in the garage and it fits okay but less room and more weight obviously carrying it around all the time.

Some self-assembly required, tools supplied. Unboxed, assembled and ready to mount on the car inside 30 minutes.Well made. VERY heavy at 19kg, which combined with the size and awkward shape makes it a challenge to lift and carry, but once you've got it to the car mounting it on the towbar is fairly straightforward. Grip on towbar is adjustable, needs a good push on the handle to lock it on (instructions advise 43kg pressure but how you're supposed to measure that I've no idea).Getting bikes on it is a doddle compared to the Thule roof-mounted carriers we've been using. Plenty of room for two bikes, snug for three. Bikes are held securely and barely move, even on bumpy roads.Bought a 7 to 13 pin adaptor.Big mistake - very fiddle to fit and didn't work (see my review on that). So the adaptor is in the bin, replaced with a 13 pin plug which in turn replaced the 7 pin which came with the carrier.Haven't yet figured out where to store it. Currently when not in use it sits on the floor in the dining room, planning to buy some strong hooks to hang it on the wall in the garage. But not too high or I'll never get it up there.

After researching multiple bike racks, this one seemed to tick all the functions I wanted, appeared to have good build quality and whilst not cheap compared to others not expensive. Now it's arrived and clamped onto my car, I can confirm quality wise its spot on feels very solid and not too heavy (though, isn't light.) but very quick & easy to attach and my bikes feel rock solid... only thing missing when compared to higher up models is outside of bike count - it doesn't have the ability to fold up in any meaningful way but that doesn't bother me as it'll sit in my shed when not used, but if you want something that folds up neatly for travels & can be carried/wheeled around perhaps look at the upper models.Update: If transporting Carbon frames, you have to buy the AcuTight knob upgrade & (yes and) Carbon Adapter strap... the conventional tightening knob will apply uneven pressure to carbon which has a high probability of damaging carbon, the acutight knob paired with carbon adapter clicks when it reaches optimum tightness.

I already have one of these so i know how good quality they are. This was for my son and it is in excellent condition, like new.It has 3 different length arms to attach to the bikes to hold them still and the wheels are held in place with straps on the wheel guides, which extend to suit most bikes even coping with long wheel base DH rigs. When first putting 3 bikes on its a bit of a puzzle getting the bars in the right place to pass through the other bike to hold the 3rd bike for example, but doing a dryrun on the drive to get things worked out is better than waiting till the time you use it then being under pressure to work it out!especially with the kids/adults in the back of the car rolling their eyes....Fully lockable, for each bike and the rack to the towbar for excellent security. Also the aluminium and plastic keeps looking good as long as you give a clean once in a while. Also number plate is clipped into place rather than screwed which i think is better.Read full review...

This bike carrier is sturdy and reassuring. If this is the lightweight compact version I don’t want to see the others this is plenty big and heavy enough. However you feel you’re getting a quality product that has been well thought through. In fact if it isn’t working, you’re probably doing it wrong, as with user1234 who complains that the vertical support folds at speed. That is because you have to rotate it to be upright then shove it down vertically into the holding position before you then tighten the screw handles. To fold it again loosen the screw handles, pull it vertically up then fold down. I’ll knock off a star as the instructions don’t cover that properly, but given everything else is so good it should lead you to think, have I got this wrong?Give yourself some time to practice loading it on and off before having to venture off, if the rack isn’t reasonably horizontal it won’t engage on the tow bar, a bit of paractice makes it simple enough. Thanks Thule.

My first bike carrier. We use this with the 4th bike add-on. 2 adult and 2 kids all mtb's. Carrier does not move around much. Only slight movement but with the sort of weight it's carrying I'm very happy with it.... I'm on the max weight it recommends. Easy to use and the drop down pedal to allow access to boot is very useful. Good quality product although expensive. I've only used it 5-6 times so far but hope that it's similar to my other Thule products and lasts years to come. if you have 13 pin on your car then you will need a conversion socket from 7 to 13 pin which is what I use. You will also need to buy a number plate.. I bought the one which is listed as commonly bought together items..fits perfect and takes about 1min to fit. Compact size... well it's compact enough to hang in the garage out the way, but doesn't fit into my car..so doesn't fold that small. Overall I'm very happy with the product. Would recommend.

Easy to fit onto the towbar and even easier to fit a mans and women bike onto the rack, my bike fitted direct to the attachements, but I had to purchase a frame adaptor for my wifes bike which was perfect for the job. Only minor assenbly of the bike rack needed out of the box. Used it in Europe on holiday no problems, electrics worked well, rack was sturdy and is lockable. Quick glance through easy instructions, first time of use took me only 10 minutes to attach to towbar and load bikes.....simple. Would definately recommend, but you will need an adaptor for a female bike. Finally the number plate does not need drilling and any standard rear plate will fit and the plate locks in place by using plastic clips which you first have to remove easy to do and very secure once fitted. This frame is a great piece of kit.
