I found this carrier quite straight forward to assemble, and it only took a little while to complete.Very easy to fit to the towbar and very secure once you've tightened it up sufficiently. it easily held 11 stone of me standing on it. The carrier does weigh a little bit, so some people may need assistance to hold it whilst tightening it up. I'm certainly no Swarzenegger and i managed it on my own. Fits onto the towbar by a simple 'cup' bracket that has a single bolt holding it. The bolt has a gnurled surface that allows it to be finger tightened, though you the need to use the supplied 19mm spanner (or one of your own) to tighten the bolt fully.Once again i found this to be quite easy.Relatively easy to fit the bikes to.I found i needed to put one arm through the frame holding the bike, whilst i put a strap round the upright on the carrier and the bike frame to hold it in place. once in place the straps could be threaded around the wheels on the carrier to hold it more securely and then adjust the upright strap to ensure everything is held firmly. for peace of mind, i tend to add extra straps round the upright and both bikes. The carrier is tiltable to allow access to the boot/hatch, though i understand that this may not be the case on all cars, especially some of the people carrier types. I've used it on a Vauxhall Vectra, Skoda Octavia, BMW 3 series and Ford mondeo with no issues, if in doubt as to whether yours will be ok, best bet is to try one before buying if possible. The tilting mechanism is a little fiddly, you need to loosen two nuts (with plastic grips on them) and then rotate the J shaped bolts out of the way, then tilt the carrier away from the car.All in all i've been very pleased with the 9502 and am now considering the 9503 as the kids are growing and their bikes are getting bigger

Decided to get this having become fed up with all the hassle, straps and cords of a "scissors" type towbar rack which was not really strong enough for our 2x hybrid bikes at 14kg each. Also the separate light and number plate bar was a pain.On opening the box - thanks Amazon/Yodel, free delivery only 4 days - the number of components looked really daunting, but as advised by other reviewers we took time to view the youtube assembly video before starting. With two of us working through the step-by-step instruction sheet, the rack was built and mounted on the car complete with bikes in well under two hours, for a test drive to the start of a bike ride 30 miles away on varied road types and surfaces. The unit is very sturdily constructed which does mean that attaching it to your towbar is probably easier with an extra person to hold it in place while the main nut is tightened. Mounting and securing two bikes is a doddle with just six quick-tightening fabric straps in total, but you need to take care with the pedal positions during this process. Also I'd agree with other reviews that perhaps just one extra bungee cord around both cycles and the frame, adds to your peace of mind!On the road the Thule soon inspires confidence and appears secure, solid and stable on all surfaces.Best of all, we are so pleased to have a bike rack where the entire procedure for putting cycles on or off the car takes a mere 3 minutes. Totally recommended, buy and enjoy!

Being able to utilise the car's towball to install the bike carrier seems to me a very good idea. The Thule Rideon 2 bike carrier clamps securly to the tow ball. The positive features are, it is away fromthe car enough to prevent marking the bodywork, The bikes are very stable when secured. You can quickly detatch& refit the unit and also store in the car's boot area (medium size car & up). Access to the boot is possible if required with the bikes fitted. The Assembly is delivered as a kit, tools are provided perhaps a philips screwdriver is needed. I found it straight forward to assemble to the instructions provided. The materials and design are good, loosely fitted items before sucuring worked well during assembly. The number plate might be awkward to obtain for legality but I got round that by using an existing one removed from my trailer .Also the straps are good but for confidence I used 3 elasticated luggage ropes which are quickly fitted and make the security of thebikes feel to me better.I have used the unit up to 40 miles and found it really good, the bikes are out of the wind, driving the car is not affected by having the bikes on.

I had a problem with the light bar. The main connection to the car was very tight and the connectors were too fat to fit into the car receiver. Also one of the connections on the light bar did not fit at all well. I had to ask for a replacement and I used the light bar from the replacement. This worked better but was still a tight fit. I got the tow bar fitter to check his work and his fitting worked fine. so it was the Thule connections which were not very good. I have no complaints with the actual bike carrying part which is just what I wanted. The Amazon response to my complaint was excellent and the second Thule bike carrier was despatched without delay.I have just posted back the parts- the actual carrier from the second item was unused. However in the package returned is the light bar from the first delivery - which is faulty. The returned item was despatched by parcel force on 10th April at a cost of £23.14. I do hope there will be a refund.Again, the Amazon response was excellent.

Delivered promptly. Easy to put together. Always a bit of a risk buying something based on reviews and assurances. Mostly concerned that it would fit the type of tow ball(swan neck)and that the nearest bike would hit the back door of our VW T4 Campervan. Turned out, didn't need to worry. Fits brilliantly and pretty sure this will bolt onto any tow ball. Bike handlebar was a few inches away from door, so there is a slight risk. Used it last week on holiday with our van and it was really good. Quickly fits on tow ball and bikes attach easily. Don't think I needed to worry, but I turned bike handlebars just to make sure the bars didn't hit the back door. Non of this was a problem as it was all very quick and simple.Just have to remember - can't open the vans back door once rack fitted even without bikes, so tilting doesn't help, but I'd already guessed that would be the case as the rack is probably more designed for cars. Overall really pleased with it and looking foward to our next trip.

I bought one of these last October and had it delivered to Mallorca. I was surprised that all the nuts, bolts & washers were loose in the box and when I neared completion I was short of a couple of washers and nuts. I bought the missing items and I find it wonderful for transporting our cycles to other parts of the island. When I arrived home for Christmas, I thought it would be a good idea to have one in the U.K too. This time the nuts etc. were in a polythene bag albeit it had a hole in it and a lot of items were missing. The only course of action i could take was to return it and have it replaced. The replacement arrived today, immediately I noticed there was cardboard around the lights to protect them and there was protective sheeting around the metal parts. The bag of nuts and bolts was intact and complete. I wonder why the previous packages were not like this?Anyway I now happy and look forward to some sunny weather.

A reasonably substantial carrier with the exception of the lighting and number plate carrier which is plastic and seems vulnerable to breakage. With an expensive, so say, "pedigree" product I would have expected to find at least a metal backing plate. The assembly instructions are in the usual pictogram form to meet multiple countries needs and there is indeed quite a bit of assembly required! The supplied "pressed out" spanners are an affront to anyone with any degree of mechanical expertise. There is no method of locking the carrier to the towbar/car included, unforgivable Mr Thule. However, reading other reviews, the Thule lock obtainable at about another £15 is useless!I am able to use a cycle shackle type lock through the breakaway cable pigtail and around the carrier.Buy this carrier with a fair degree of confidence, but be mindful that like Mercedes a few years back, Thule seems to be resting on it's reputation!

After having a high rise carrier on our car. (which scratched and marked the car and came loose when we travelled far or there was a wind, this was a (pardon the pun) breath of fresh air. It fit easily on our new tow bar and after a few times practising, is easy to load up. My husband got a new bike and we didn't want it scratched like the old one was in transit and decided the Thule name had a good record, also some our cycling friends had the very same carrier. Also we could not use the rear windscreen wiper when the old carrier was fitted, resulting on one occasion when we forgot, a jammed wiper. We have the carrier lock also to make it secure while we are cycling and so we do not have to worry about it being stolen.Amazon are displaying the 3 bike carrier in the advert, but we received the 2 bike carrier as ordered. It was delivered promptly and well packed. Thank you.

Being naturally tight-fisted I spent a while researching numerous options of tow-bar mounted bike carriers, after spending years of scrathing inside of my estate car. I'm delighted with this carrier, but it does have a few niggling faults - I'd guess that's why it sits at the lower end of price range though. The tilt mechanism is useless with my car type, as my boot lid snags it - it may be OK with your car though. The only other niggle is the 4 straps that hold the bikes are nylon type - whilst they're well strong enough they are a real faff re-threading through the buckles once well used & slightly frayed at the ends. But really I'm being over critical as the rack is well made, very sturdy & real quality product - for sure I'd recommend it

Very light, easy to fold and store somewhere and when off the car it sits nice and square so is at the moment my "bike store" with a very crappy Fiamma Bike Cover over it. I assembled it in a short time but of course laid everything out, checked it was all there and followed the instructions. When I put it on my gf and I stood on it to test the security -124 kilos!!! (I'm 86 kilos and she's 38)So I am well pleased except for one tiny thing, the 7 pin inferior plug type. I bought an excellent converter but my fog light still doesn't work when this is plugged in.(See my other review, KKmoon 13 to 7 Pin PlugTrailer Caravan Electric Adapter Converter Waterproof Towbar Towing SocketSold by: Camsoo£6.69)

Having used previously, roof mounted cycle racks & rear mounted cycle racks, to use this type fixed to the towbar is a delight. Can fix the carrier on in about 60 secs and less than 5 mins to put two bikes on and strap them securely. Have already used the carrier loaded on long journeys, everything remains secure at all times. The one big issue is that you need a towbar and electrics fitted to your vehicle, if you do, I would thoroughly recommend this carrier. When parked up and we are using our bikes, I simply take the carrier off and put inside the luggage area of the vehicle. I know there is a lock which can be purchased for securing the carrier to the vehicle, but we haven't purchased that yet.

I have used a strap on cycle rack for some time and had no problems but with a change of car I decided to get a two bike tow bar mounted rack. Assembly was easy and it is a much quicker process fitting it to my car. Rack on, bikes on and away. The tilt function works well but having a large tailgate on my vehicle I didn't expect it to fully open with the rack on, and it doesn't, but I don't have a problem with this. The quality and price are great. Some shops are selling it at twice this price and the cheapest I could get it new on Ebay was £27 dearer. I paid for next day delivery as I knew I was at home to receive it but this still kept the price very competitive. Very pleased

After using the scissor style bicycle carriers for a few years, i found them unstable and they tended to twist due to airflow. The Thule Rideon is great, it clamps securely on to the tow bar ball, no twisting and no stressing for me. They attach well and if you want an extra bit of safety you can put a strap around the two bikes and under the carrier.I would have no hesitation in recommending one of these. Thule make a lot of the Motor manufacturers carriers, and you can buy them from Thule for half the price.Great product, easy to assemble (25minutes), easy to use ( 2minutes to attach to the car 5 minutes to get the bikes on). Don't forget your number plate :-)

If you want a secure way of transporting bikes, this is a quality item. Bolts onto the tow ball easily (I find a thicker spanner easier, than the supplied one) is very secure & I prefer the bikes behind the car instead of roof mounted, generally easier to attach. Having driven hundreds of miles with them on the back without a problem, I feel it is a more efficient way of transporting them, less drag & no worries about height & low barriers. You can also buy the lock separately but a determined thief would not be deterred!Prefer this to strapped cycle carriers on tailgate, where over time the straps can wear. Good product & reasonably priced
