Now as mentioned in the title this device would be perfect for those who are naturally outdoorsy people. This device will take stunning pictures of stunning scenery & will capture so much more than your ordinary two dimensional device. Now some photographers will obviously disagree with this comment but for those casual snappers who appreciate a panoramic photo of a rolling hillside the Samsung Gear 360 does all the hard work for you. Just stick it on a flat surface using the neat little rubber mount, step back & snap a picture on your mobile device, which needn't be a Samsung mobile, or an android specific device, you can use this on iPhone! So what if you're not an outdoorsy person I hear you ask?Well the concept of the device is a great idea, who wouldn't want to capture images and video from a 360° angle. Well that's actually a very good question. I struggle to find any real purpose for the Gear 360 other than taking stunning pictures of stunning scenery! I took a few pictures of round tables in the local pub, I took a picture of the family around the dinner table but none of these picture really showcased the capabilities of the Gear 360 as a 360° camera device! People looked odd & you've probably see everything inside your dining room without having a 360 picture. So I moved on to the video capture. Great fun! We have 2 Persian cats who are extremely inquisitive and there's some great footage of the two of the sniffing and pawing at the camera, so I thought maybe I would capture some time lapse of the terrible two during the hours we weren't in the house & this is one of the biggest let downs of the Gear 360, you can't shoot a time lapse video whilst the devices is plugged in. Now this is a massive disappointment for me as this would have been a great little feature of the device and probably something consumers would be interested in but the battery only lasts a few hours when the time lapse is running so only really gives you a few minutes of capture. Overall I cannot fault this product for what it is. It takes great 360° pictures & videos & is really easy to use. I just find the use of it fairly limited once you remove the stunning scenery as even the flat images you can capture using it you can take just as easily with your mobile so negating the need for the Gear 360 for day to day photography. But stick yourself in the middle of a snow storm or on a hilltop & you'll struggle to find a better product to capture what you see in that moment.

The Gear 360 is the companies second gen panoramic camera. It employs a pair of opposing cameras, each is equipped with an extremely wide angle cameras in order to film literally everything around it, perfect for sharing via scrollable panoramic video or as an immersive VR headset experience. With a new look, new hardware and some new software features I believe this is a worthwhile upgrade from the previous one.By replacing the previous tripod with a rigid attached base, gives the camera a built in hand grip and allowing Samsung to shrink the eyeball size making it better at portability. The Gear 360 has a decent battery life, the 1160 mAh battery is a little smaller than last year as well as no longer replaceable. But it easily got me through a weekend of filming short videos, without even hitting the battery’s half way point. Filming larger shots or more of them and you could run into a bit of trouble, but the capacity really does seem adequate for casual usage. It has your pick of shooting modes, these include a full duel camera mode or shooting from just one of the two lenses. This helps generate a much more poundable, wide screen, fish eye lens video. The critical bit there is that it still looks good without any playback tricks. The one downside is that raw resolution is only half of what it was on last camera, despite this, it does have a higher max resolution video mode, now hitting 4K but only at 24FPS. Options for 2K and lower run at much higher frame rate up to 120 FPS.The expandable internal storage is always welcomed. The gear 360 app gives you a live view of the camera’s feed, lets you swap lenses and set shooting modes and remotely trigger recordings. You can then transfer footage to your phone, view it in a variety of playback modes, including your VR headset and share it with services like YouTube. This is all familiar but this year adds the bonus of supporting live feed via YouTube, Facebook or Samsung’s own gear service. In conclusion:The new gear 360 is overall a step in the right direction for Samsung, is much more compact than the original, easier to use and offers a compelling new functionality like live streaming, I would be good if they worked a bit more on android compatibility but the IOS support is a welcomed progress. The move to a lower res camera is a curious one but could be justifiable with the lower pricing point.

Size:The new Gear360 has an updated shape, the mushroom form factor allowing Samsung to slim down the space between the lenses, resulting in a much more svelte 46.3mm width compared to the 66.7mm of the original. As a result the whole camera feels a lot less bulky and much easier to slip into a pocket, although losing the fun eyeball shape of the previous model that made it look so funky as an action camera.Functions:In the refresh, Samsung has changed some of the functions on the Gear360, gone is the google Streetview option (but this was an extremely niche function in the first place) and in it’s place is the new live streaming option, which is a fantastic idea, and something I would have loved to have been able to do with the original gear360. Unfortunately the live streaming is currently limited to 10fps, and has considerable lag, so which I was looking forward to trying to use it to webconference (and for gaming) it was just too slow. I really hope that Samsung dedicate a bit of time to improving this and can push it to 24fps and cut the lag with firmware updates, otherwise this is a feature that promises a lot but just can’t quite deliver.Quality:Video Quality is generally excellent with full HD video being captured, although as the camera is taking a much wider image than normal, this doesn’t quite have the same HD sharpness as a Full HD camera taking a normal video or image.Battery Life:So far I have been very impressed with the battery life on this little unit, I took it out climbing and used it sporadically throughout the day to record climbs, was delighted to find that by the end of the day I still had over half of battery life left.Software:Samsung have also updated their Gear360 ActionDirector software, and I was very pleased to find that it would now run on my aging PC without crashing everything, and importing, stitching, and uploading video is extremely easy.Overall:This is a great little gadget, the smaller size makes it much easier to drop into a pocket, and being able to show people video which they can move around is a lot of fun. I really hope that Samsung are able to improve the framerate and get rid of the lag in the live streaming functionality, because I would love to play around with that some more but at the moment it is a bit too clunky to really be effective.Dimensions: 100.6 x 46.3 x 45.1mmWeight: 130 g

WOW! Just Wow! What can be said about a device that so quickly has redefined my way of taking a photograph. Lets be absolutely clear here. This is not just a selfie taking device, or a panoramic pro, or even a mini camcorder. Sure, it can do all of those things but its main feature is the 360 degree shot. At first it seems bizarre, taking a picture with a device that has a camera at the front and the back. Soon, it becomes second nature and more than that. Pairing these pictures up with the Gear VR allows you to re-immerse yourself in those moments again and again. It is a spectacular piece of technology. I challenged myself, upon opening the box, to try and set up the entire device without once looking at the instructions.I am happy to report that I did. It did not even take half an hour and I had the device linked, app downloaded and was already snapping away. It was for a wedding too, and the happy couple have been amazed with some of the footage I managed to capture. A picture can say a thousand words, but a Gear 360 allows you to relive that moment, thousands of times. The size of the 360 is great too, It comes with a soft cover that protects the lenses and all of it can be slipped into a pocket very easily. It is quick to power on, so there is no excuse for why you didn't capture the moment. As for the bad points. I can only really speculate, as so far, the Gear 360 has worked brilliantly. The lenses are bulbous and I imagine that one drop or scratch on either side and the 360 loses its party piece. Also, on that note, the handle is made from plastic and is smooth, making it quite tricky to keep a grip of. The lower base is rubber, I don't know why it wasn't extended up the entire grip, but it hasn't unfortunately. When taking a video the other day I found that the 360 has no real image stabilizer, so I desperately tried to keep my arm steady whilst filming. It proved to be a challenge. That being said, the bottom has the thread for a tripod so with some proper planning, you can make filming in 360 a breeze. The battery life is what you would expect from something this size. I was getting an hour to an hour and a half of heavy usage. Its expandable memory has the potential to contain a 256gb micro sd which is plenty storage for all your memories. Aside from the very few negatives I have listed, the Gear 360 should be on everyone's wishlist.

Samsung is really trying to pioneer and lead the VR market. The company has already established itself with the Gear VR - a best for value in its trade. With its success from the Gear VR, it is evidently doing well to translate that to the 360 VR camera market.+ FOR: Works seamlessly, Bright clear lens, Solid, IP5 rating build, Simple and intuitive to use, Extremely portable, Works well with the Gear VR, Better 360 stitching- AGAINST: Limited features when using non-Samsung phones, Quality can improveIf you've ever used a GoPro, the experience of setting up the Gear 360 is relatively easy and simple. Turn it on, pair it with bluetooth, download any relevant apps (if you own a Samsung)and you're good to go. The Gear 360 paints a similar picture to the Gear VR - in the sense, that it is extremely better if you own a Samsung smartphone. However, unlike the Gear VR, if you don't own a Samsung you can still use the Gear 360 with the basic features you expect a 360 camera to do.For what its worth, like I said the Gear 360 does everything you expect it to, and more. If you had tried last years model, you'll be relieved to know almost all the shortcomings of that have been addressed and sufficiently improved. The biggest improvement is that the Gear 360 stitches its videos automatically, rather than depend on the horsepower of your Samsung smartphone. This second generation is just everything the first should've been, and leaves very little to complain about. If you've never owned a 360 camera, then let this open your world to new possibilities. You'll really never be able to see 2D video clips the same. With the Gear 360, you can literally record memories and live them again on a VR headset. Gone are the days where you take turns on who takes the photo to include everyone in. Likewise, are the days of you trying to remember where a specific photo was taken or what happened. The possibilities are truly limitless. The pictures come out in extremely high quality, while the videos might have a lower quality are much more fun to record and play after.Overall, I'm amazed at how cheap this is for a product that really has no say on what you can do with it. I would confidently recommend this to anyone who really wants to make memories, be it with important ones like Family and friends, or with your general day to life.

PROS- *Great sound quality *Easy to setup and use *Integrated software on S7 is seamless *Takes the pain out of uploading 360 videos to YouTubeCONS: * Video Quality isn't great * 4K claims are ambiguous * Battery Life * Fingers often get captured in the shotFrom opening the box to uploading videos to YouTube; putting the camera through its paces has been fun but unfortunately not without limitations. Physically, the camera’s form factor is very clever! At a glance the odd shape may look cumbersome but I found it to be a great size to put in your pocket and take to events. Equally, the 2017 version also has a handle, this helps to an extent in keeping pesky fingers out of shot but the only way I have found to truly keep fingers out of your pictures is to mount on a tripod/selfie stick. From a technical perspective, the Gear 360 achieves 360 images through two 8.4 megapixel cameras- this should tell you everything you need to know about the image quality. Samsung may use terms like ‘4K’ to promote the Gear but the reality is these aren’t videos that are going to look any good on a 60 inch TV. Even at higher frame rates some users may be disappointed with the end results. Controlling the camera is intuitive- for S7 owners the software is easy to use and works seamlessly cleverly stitching your videos together and giving you the option to save to your photo gallery. In contrast, using the camera without a phone is just as simple, the camera is very much ‘point and shoot’ which has it’s advantages and disadvantages (more on those later!) but the camera loads quick enough to ensure you don’t miss any of the action. Another welcome addition was the iOS companion app! Very much a lite version of the software you’ll find on Samsung’s S7, the app acts as a view finder and a way to save images to your iPhone’s camera roll. The Gear 360 does the hard work and stitches videos together for you. The process is seamless and allows you to upload directly to YouTube. Samsung also released ActionDirector as a tool for your PC/Mac. Having only got to try this on a Mac the features seemed restricted compared to what is advertised for the PC version. All in all, The Gear 360 is a nice little camera. It’s simple, fun and easy to use but better image quality and battery life would be welcomed on future iterations of the device.

Up until recently, 360 degree photos and videos have been very niche, with one of the only ways to take them was using a camera app to stitch together the flat, 2D photos into a 360 degree photo. Apart form the obvious cons to this (like, the fact that it takes about 10 minutes to take a full spherical photo!), once you have your photo, there was no way to really share it. However, Facebook and YouTube, along with the rise of better quality, accessible VR, have now made sharing these creations much easier, which has meant that 360 cameras have become much more popular over the last few years. Not wishing to be left behind, Samsung entered the game last year with the Gear 360.This 1st gen model took decent footage, however was criticised for its unwieldy, completely spherical body and high price tag. Samsung are back this year with the 2nd Generation of Gear 360 camera, this time with an easy to wield handle, and lower price to boot. I took my Gear 360 out on the golf course last week and took some impressive shots (shame the weather wasn't as impressive). I found the picture quality to be pretty good, not spectacular, but good considering the price (which I did a lot whilst reviewing). Sometimes the cropping wasn't perfect in some points, but only in places that people wouldn't tend to be looking (directly up or down). I think video is where the camera really shines though, the the camera handing decent quality video. Amazon can't show 360 video ideally, but there are sample videos on YouTube It would definitely be worth going for a larger size (64GB or more) memory card though if planning to take a lot of footage on holiday for example.I use a Samsung S8+ and I found the Gear 360 app to be purely functional enough to use, though found it a bit of a faff having to go through this app to see the photos I took. Thankfully the photos work well with Google Photos and can be viewed natively through this app, and through the Google Photos app, which made showing other people easier as well.ConclusionSamsung's latest Gear 360 camera is a great way to introduce yourself to the increasingly popular method of sharing 360 degree video, with an affordable price tag, decent photo quality and easy sharing through Google Photos.

Having never used a camera like this before and being both excited and nervous to try, the instructions on the operations and set-up of the device helped massively, directing on what to do and how long certain tasks should take such as recharging the device. Using it with my Samsung S8 and my brothers iPhone SE it worked flawlessly with both, enabling stunning photos and videos to be taken. The Gear 360 is a fantastically well-made camera. It is lightweight and water resistant so everyday knocks and bangs wont damage it. Coming with toughened lenses to avoid scratches and scuffs, it also has an additional pouch for storage to help with protection. With an easy to hold grip and the option of adding a stand for greater support, the Gear 360 allows a variety of camera lens operations: - Front lens – opts for a 180-degree front view - Rear lens – opts for a 180-degree rear view - Both lenses – opts for a 360-degree all around view which allows for a panoramic view that you can move and rotate In addition to the variety of camera lens operations, there are a variety of view functions including: - Stretched view - Dual view - Panoramic view Using the camera when I went out with parents to walk our dog and when I went with friends to the local beach, It enabled fantastic videos and photos to be captured and when played though the Samsung Gear VR headset made it seem like you were actually there again. When using the camera, it is made easy using the Samsung and iPhone apps which allow you to control the camera with your phone, an amazing thing if you set the camera up with the stand and don’t want to be in the shot but still want to relive the moment! Additionally the Gear 360 has a LIVE BROADCAST option! Allowing you to share moments live with friends and family and capture them for reliving the moment. The battery life for this device is 3 hours with no issues when recharging with the charging process made easy with a cable that connects to the device and laptop. Overall it is a fantastic device that allows memories to be captured and allows to them to be relived in high definition as if you are present again in the moment with the Samsung VR Headset Totally recommend!! Amazing!!

I used to own the original Gear 360 camera, and I have to say I enjoyed using it, but a few things were definitely limiting my usage and experience. The new design is focused on ergonomy and portability, being more comfortable to hold in hand and adds also live broadcast. The fact the camera has this renewed form factor, makes it more pocket-friendly compared to the spherical design from the 2016 model. It just makes you more likely to carry the camera with you and create 360/VR content, and this is not something to overlook. The only drawback of this design is that compared to the 2016 model, this doesn’t come with a small tripod, so it feels that it’s more unstable. There’s a hole at the bottom where you can attach a tripod though, and for peace of mind I recommend using one to avoid risks of seeing the camera damaged. In the box there is a rubber ring to attach to the base of the camera, and it helps in the absence of a tripod, although it’s still not as stable as you might wish.Like the 2016 version, this year’s model features a microSD slot, a monochrome display to quickly see and switch between photo/video modes and have an idea about the battery left.Coming to the camera specs, we can find two 8.4MP sensors which allow to record 4K 360 video at a resolution of 4096x2048 at 30fps.Using the companion app on a smartphone you can easily adjust settings and preview what the camera is recording, like last year’s model.Viewing the videos on the smartphone the quality is really high, but as expected, playing it in VR or larger screens the details are lost due to compression, but still good. Especially with a good amount of light there are not issues to raise, while in low-light conditions it’s easy to lose quality and the noise is a bit all over the place. The audio quality is really nice even with background noise, if you use the wind noise reduction feature. Definitely a nice touch for vloggers. To conclude, I think the changes Samsung made were definitely improvements and are bringing the product towards the right direction and it’s easily one of the best 360 cameras available on the market especially at this price point.

I just love using the Gear 360 for taking random snaps. It's pocketable size means it fits in your pocket or bag easily making it available wherever you go.We've just been away for the weekend for a big family gathering and I must say some of the shots have been great. It's not great in low light, very grainy, but in a well lit room or outdoors the picture quality is great, both stills and video. Having said that we played a game after dinner, plopped the camera in the middle of the table and although grainy you can fully immersive yourself back at that table with all the hilarity that ensued with the Gear VR Headset or just whizzing around on YouTube or Facebook with your mouse! You can certainly get creative with the Gear 360 camera!!I wouldn't recommend using the Mac version of the stitching software if you want to edit as that's all it does, stitch and dump. Theres no facility to edit etc. it just spits out the stitched video ready for use. The PC version on the other hand is much more useful but be warned... these files are big and take some processing power to get the job done in a timely fashion. I've installed it on my gaming PC and it stitched a 5 minute clip in around 5 minutes which I though was pretty good as it took almost 40 minutes on my standard desktop PC previously.Initially I had upload/recognition issues uploading to social media (Facebook) but that seems to have ironed itself out overnight! Happy days :-D If you're planning on sharing your 360 adventures with your friends and family please do let them know that if you're uploading to YouTube then they'll need the YouTube app for their phone or tablet. Opening from a link in Facebook just won't work. You lose the 360 aspect and end up with a dual fisheye video (boring and weird!). Viewed in the app on the other hand you simply move your phone/tablet from side to side to see everything around, above and below you, amazing! All in all a great bit of kit allowing you to relive the memories like you are there, especially when used with the Gear VR Headset and Controller. Thoroughly recommended.

The Samsung Gear 360 2017 edition provides a new way to share experiences. In the box you're greeted with the gear 360, a carry sock, a little O-ring style stand and a usb type C cable. The sock is a very nice addition so it can be carried around, ready to take impromptu snaps or videos. You will need to purchase a micro SD card to use this device.Initially when charging, the unit won't turn on for about 10 minutes, so a full charge is recommended before use. This only takes roughly an hour and a half. The setup is straightforward. You'll need the gear 360 app downloaded on your phone. The unit powers up by holding the power button, then holding the button above that will activate Bluetooth. From there you can connect to your phone and start taking snaps. You only need your phone to extract media from the gear 360 or to use as a live view and remote. You can freely take photos and videos by pressing the record button underneath the front camera. The gear 360 2017 is compatible with bipods. They can be screwed into the bottom. Or it can be placed on any flat surface, but I'd recommend using the included O-ring stand for outside use.Picture quality is great, but video can be quite grainy, depending on the resolution you have chosen. Ideally you'll need to use the app to take photos because pictures can be overexposed or blurry when just pressing the capture button on the device.Although this is a camera, the hiccups with picture quality are very small when you take in to account the whole experience. You're not going to be using this to take amazing artistic shots of the autumn leaves, you're going to use this to add a new level of immersion to your shared media. The gear 360 app even lets you live stream straight to Facebook!Compact 360° camaras are still relatively new, and they're going to continue getting better and better. But for 2017, the gear 360 is a fantastic product and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in taking 360 photos and videos and sharing them online.

First out the box the Gear 360 looks great. Well designed and looks like an expensive and well made gadget which i like. Easy to use and set up and connect to your smart phone. I downloaded the IOS and android apps and the 360 worked well on both devices. I was able to connect and control the 360 through the smartphone app as well as use it as a stand alone camera by itself. When using it out and about i did have to think about what i wanted to record in 360. For me not a lot of 360 content out there to record. I tried at the park, a sports venue and in my garden to start with but usually a camera is 180 degrees because we are looking only one way. I ended up taking a lot of image of other people and open spaces. If you want a 360 experience though the gear 360 is a good camera. I would recommend setting it up on a stand using the universal stand thread in the bottom. The camera automatically adjusts the video to make sure its the right way up when i recorded upside down which i liked. The camera records video, pictures and i particularly liked the time lapse. I got a good night sky shot one night in my garden over the course of 30 min. I found the picture quality rather good for such a small camera, the stitching can be seen though when the two halves are put together for the 360 image but not a problem. Good sound recording just using the inbuilt microphone. Uploading the pictures and videos to my smart phone via the app was easy. Just select and upload, the app then stitches the image into the 360 video and you can preview or download the image. I was able to upload a few videos to Facebook and you tube. The sites where able to share the 360 video is the proper format and you could view them in full 360 mode using your smart phone. I would recommend the gear 360 to anyone who is into social media, sports or photography. Its a great little camera that doesn't take up too much space to stick in a bag. It has a great little carry case to protect it on journeys.

I have been trying the Samsung Gear 360 for a few weeks yet and have to say it’s been a lot of fun. Out of the box, set up is easy, simply download the app and away you go. The app itself is straightforward to use although a little restrictive as whilst it works on iOS for apple connectivity, this appears to be at the expense of some android devices. I can’t use it with my Samsung Tab for example. I’ve also noticed some issues with it crashing my Samsung S7 when trying the live function although this may be an issue with my phone as it can work great. The Gear 360 camera shoots decent quality photos as long as the light is good, it can get a little grainy in low light situations but that’s to be expected of any camera.I used it in a cave with limited natural light and the photos/video are watchable so possibly a little better than some cameras. Summit shots especially are great, being able to take photos in all directions at the same time without relying on a steady hand to pan round. I highly recommend getting the Gear VR headset if you do purchase this camera as it really comes into its own when your handiwork can be viewed in immersive 360. I shot a video of a boat ride where I held the camera over the side which made the viewing experience even more exhilarating as you seemed to fly over the water. Family and friends actually ask to see my holiday pics now, as long as they can borrow the headset of course. If you don’t have the Gear VR headset you can still get the 360 effect using motion view where you turn your phone to look around the landscape and the photos can be stitched together to give a panoramic view if needed as well. All in all it’s a great bit of kit and I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a 360 camera and the price is good considering what you get. There are much more expensive 360 cameras out there which I’m sure don’t offer the same value.

What a little beast this is. For such a small device I packs a huge punch. The Samsung Gear 360 is an amazing little device with a super high quality dual camera and great sharing capabilities. In the box: typically slick Samsung packaging houses the camera, a sleeve, a rubber stand, usb c wire and instructions. Setup: Once charged, you must download the Gear360 app and connect to your phone. The Bluetooth connectivity is just as simple as pairing earphones or an external speaker and within minutes you are ready to go! Usability: there is a live view facility in the Gear360 app allowing you to use the phone as a view finder which is pretty nifty and handy but there is a distinct and noticeable amount of lag with the feedback and transferring photos from the device to your phone. The click to shoot function and audible cues are clever little features that help make the photo taking process that little bit smoother. There is a slightly visible seam in photos but nothing too obvious to spoil the magic this device creates. Comfortable to hold at first but after a while can feel cumbersome and cause a slight ache in your arm and palm. In combination with the VR heaset, you can create your own breathtaking 360 photos with the addition of a selfie stick or tripod to avoid the mess of an extra long arm. Overall a strong improvement from Samsung offering a reasonable product for a reasonable price but it still feels like it's falling a touch short of the bar set by the GoPro range. IP67 leaves us wanting full waterproof capability offered by other Samsung products. Pros: super sharp images, amazing battery life, social media connectivity. Cons: Lag in app, only IP67, cumbersome after holding for a while.

I've been using this for a week now, so this is still a first impressions review. Firstly, it's been very easy to set up. The Google Play store has a Gear 360 app, which I installed on my Note 8, and from there the app dealt with connecting to the Gear, and afterwards popping up a notification as soon as the Gear was switched on. The app screen is very simple - tap on the camera line and you have a live view of what the Gear is seeing, and the interface is intuitive as it's vert similar to a phone camera interface. You can tap on the capture button to grab a photo, switch mode to capture video, or go the gallery where the slightly unusual format (photo above) can be "stitched" into a more conventional rectangular picture.Photos and videos can be captured without connection to a phone - the buttons on the Gear let you flip between capture modes, and capture photos and videos with the shutter button. The only real downside to this is that the camera will capture a big image of your thumb. Possibly the only real downside for me is photographing the user. Obviously this is always going to be an issue with a device like this if you want to capture scenes rather than putting yourself into the picture, often as a distorted hand. Fortunately this can be addressed by manual image editing or using a monopod. One other minor issue is the difficulty of keeping the Gear level - because of the unusual capture mode, it's not as easy to correct the horizon to be horizontal, and maybe an audio cue would be useful to help the user level the Gear. Overall, though, very easy to set up and use, lots to play with and explore as it's a very different experience to conventional photography.
