After watching my Vet weighing my guinea pigs on a small compact stainless steel digital scale when I at home had been trying to manage with an old-fashioned kitchen scale with weights, I trawled the internet to find a reasonably-priced alternative. Then lo and behold up comes the Salter 1066 best-priced at Amazon. This is a wonderful little tool and measures my little friends' weight exactly which I do once weekly to make sure they are in good health and eating well. It is so easy to use, just put a container on the scale, press reset then add animal (or ingredient) to be weighed, and it changes from metric to imperial at the touch of a button when required. I've only just stumbled across these on here and noticed the mass negativity about them!! So I'm going to stand up for them a little bit, I don't use them for my baking or everyday kitchen use - personally I spent a little more money on something that I knew would withstand constant use, but I was recommended these by other keepers of snakes on the forums who have been really happy with them and they have been great!Not only do they have the add and weigh function but they happily can weigh accurately even the largest of my Royals. Plus they're light and easily stored away. I've had them since December 2010 and they're still working perfectly,

I bought this scale so I could accurately measure out ingredients for my ocaisional baking ventures.Design wise, it's very basic and has a cheap, rough matte plasticky feel to it, but also feels very durable. It is very easy to use and is able to "zero" the ingredients so you can add more ingredients to the same bowl which is handy when using multiple ingredients. The units are in grams (but can be changed into ounces) and doesn't detect half grams but for simple kitchen recipes I don't think it makes much difference. The 15 year guarantee is an added extra. This is a great simple product for anyone who enjoys cooking and allows you to accurately follow any recipe.

When they were working I thought these were brilliant and I too weighed my guinea pigs on them but then they would only turn on after a bit of encouragement and finally came up with epp whatever that means and wouldn't come on again. I don't think it's the batteries because I would expect the display to fade.Update dec 2014. I have upgraded this from 1 star to 4 because I returned the item, the shop didn't argue because they said they had had a lot returned. I got a replacement which are still going strong, would have 5 stars but for the faffing about having to return them, must have been a duff batch first time.

These are excellent digital scales, in couple of seconds you can weigh things to the nearest 1g. The results seem very consistent (assuming you have a reasonably flat surface to use them on). The only reason I rated them 4-star rather than 5-star is that I assumed from the picture the top surface would have and easy-to-clean gloss finish but actually it is textured which I think is more likely to attract stains.With hindsight I would have bought the black version as the instructions say that the plastic will stain.

I've been using these scales for a couple of weeks and I am really pleased with them. They are lightweight, compact and accurate. I haven't had them long enough to test out their durability, but purely from a usage point of view they are excellent. They are also useful when baking with children, and they feel pretty robust and being digital it is easier for younger children to read the weight. The scales' smooth profile makes them easy to wipe clean, which is also a bonus when dealing with children!

Is very easy to clean. Simple to use accuracy however is a little off. Whilst weighing the scales differentiate if you set to add and weigh it does not seem to know that you have placed sugar in a bowl on top of butter until it falls down immediately on to bottom of bowl. Had previously been bought scales of this kind which had the same features and was extremely accurate unfortunately I can not remember which brand name these scales were because I would buy again giving these salter scales a miss.

These scales do the job and are good value, but the 15-year guarantee is a bit misleading: to invoke it, you have to return the product to the manufacturer at your own expense and that may well cost you as much as a new pair of scales. This makes the guarantee claim seem a bit unfair toward competitors. I would also be surprised if the scales last 15 years as I have had to replace two previous Salter scales in less time than that. The problem with this is more the resulting waste than the cost.

I can’t understand people who don’t own a kitchen scale, especially with these digital ones. I got this to replace an older one which I’d had for over 10 years but was getting a bit temperamental. My last one was glass topped and weightier, so this plastic one feels lighter but is excellent for the price. Reliable to use (my last one didn’t always turn on easily) and the buttons are accessible on the top, which is a bonus if you have manual dexterity issues like I do because of my disability.

Very smart and easy to use scales. My last ones were pretty old and guzzled alkaline PP3 batteries. These don't and use one of the the small ubiquitous CR2032 lithium cells, which is supplied, and the whole device is very light. I always protect the weighing surface with a paper towel to avoid marking the top, and zero to factor the small compensation weight. Recipes like batter you can easily guess quantities but occasionally you need to accurately measure the ingredients, for confidence.

I had a couple of white versions which seem to be unavailable now. One has broken and while I am waiting to sort this out with Salter I have bought another as I like the product. This one is slower to display changes in weight than the older white ones. As long as I am aware I can allow for this. Otherwise, both are great products, as long as I remember to store them with nothing pressing down on the protruding buttons on the top surface - a sure way to drain the battery if I forget.

Works perfect but there is one thing that is a bit daft. The battery is included and in place. You just pull out a plastic tab to activate it. Right, the daft bit now. The batterey is held in by a cover that requires a very small screwdriver to remove a screw not much bigger than a grain of rice, before you reach the battery itself. For the life of me I am lost as to why they designed it like this as the battery can`t climb out and end up in your Christmas cake mix you just weighed.

I use the scale a lot over the day, weighing out cat biscuit as well as recipe ingredients. It takes up little space in my tiny kitchen so I can keep it to hand. It offers metric and imperial weights and switching between the two is just one button press. The on/off switch also functions as a reset so you can easily add several ingredients to the same bowl if you need to. The screen is clear and easy to read and indicates when the battery is running low. It is good value for money.

Bought these for someone for a present as they love to cook !! As I'm not the most enthusiastic cook I was taking a chance especially as it was a gift for a special friend . However she hasn't stopped going on about it, or stopped cooking . She feels her confidence has grown and is becoming more and more adventurous . It's such a joy to see her so happy . I would recommend these scales to anyone . They are very reliable and just the right size to tidy away when you have finished .

After having to replace a cheaper scales! this was only £2 more and much better. Accurate and reliable. However, although the weighing surface is small, the button for units and imperial/metric are also on the surface. This mean if you put a plate, for instance that might stand on the buttons, it will alter the measurement. Just be aware, that if putting am item with a larger area, place to the back of the scales, so the buttons are not compromised. Apart from that all good.
