I had several Salter electronic kitchen scales over the years. This one's the best of the lot.Compact - but not too small. Even with a large mixing bowl on the scales, the display is still easy to read.Light - but not too light. Just under 400g, it's easy to get out and put away, but is substantial enough to stay put on the working surface, and sits solidly on a flat surface. An excellent LCD display. The figures are large and clear - the LCD isn't very far below the top of the display area, so it's easily visible and shadows from the bezel do not obscure it. The digits are 13mm highQuick to start - less than two seconds from pressing the on switch to being ready to weigh things.Good keys - theon/off/zero and the units keys have a good positive click when pressed. The range - 5kg in 1g divisions / 11lb in 1/8oz divisions. That's as good as you could want in kitchen scales. The weighing platform is a pleasingly smooth, brushed, single piece of stainless steel.Power: One CR2032 button cell. I don't know how long this lasts, but it's a readily available size.Oh - and it has a mounting point on the underside. With a suitable flat-head screw in the wall, the scales could be easily stored hanging flat against the wall.I've only had it for three or four days, so I can't comment on the longevity of this model, but so far it's brilliant - the best I've had.Update: 2nd May 2010I've now had these scales for a month, using them every day. I'm still very, very pleased with them. Excellent Kitchen scales in every way. Hey - I'm pleased enough to have come back to find this review and update it!Update: 22nd July 2010Yes, the scales are still going strong. I'm still very pleased with them. There's also a feature I now use frequently which I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. If you have a bowl full of stuff on the scales, and reset the display to zero, it will accurately show negative weights as you remove stuff from the bowl.I make bread at home - usually in a breadmaker. Sometimes I want to make rolls. For rolls, I get the breadmaker to mix the dough and give it its first rise, but then I need to split it into equal sized lumps, shape them, and leave them for their second rise before baking. So, I put a clean bowl on the scales and reset to zero. Then I empty the dough from the breadmaker into the bowl. This gives me the weight of dough I have. I divide that weight by the number of rolls I want to make (e.g. 800g divided by 8 = 100g), and reset the scale. I take out some dough until the scales show -100g. Reset scale to zero. Repeat. Result: beautifully even rolls.Update: 1st September 2010A couple of days ago, the scales stopped working. The display would come on as usual, but instead of resetting to 0, it would just display "unSt". I tried a new battery, but that did no good. I contacted Salter, who said that that sounded like a permanent fault and that I should contact Amazon. When I went to do that this morning, I thought to give the scales one more try. They're currently working perfectly again (with the old battery). Most mysterious. Despite this fault, I still rate these scales as the best kitchen scales I've had. I'll update again if there are any further problems.Update: 10 August 2011.The scales are still working fine. My best guess is that some moisture got inside, but eventually evaporated.Update: 20 January 2014.The scales died permanently sometime in 2012. I think they got a bit wet again, and that did for them. So if I have one criticism it's that their water resistance could be better. Lovely to use though.Update: 5 October 2014.Since these scales are at an all-time low price today (£10.40!), I'm buying another one. Let's see how long this one lasts.Update: 4 December 2015. I haven't actually started using my new scales yet! But as someone pointed out in comments, five stars is too mcuh for some scales that died withing two years, so one star knocked off.

The Scale comes complete with a CR2032 battery installed but with a plastic tag breaking the circuit. To get operational simply means a gentle pull to remove the tag. The display and 2 control buttons jut out from the circular weighing platform to enable easier access when in use.I find it simplest to put a bowl or plate onto the platform then press the left button. This turns the scale on and it automatically then sets the reading to zero(after filling the display with -18888).Adding ingredients then increases the reading on the display. To weigh further ingredients simply press the left button once more and the display returns to zero. This can be repeated up to a maximum weight of 5kg if measuring in grammes(11lb 0.0oz in 0.1oz,5000ml in ml, 176.0fl.oz in 0.1fl.oz).A press of the left button when the display is zero will turn off the scaleThe right button scrolls through the units available.WARNING: the reading can be affected by other electrical equipment. My microwave sent it crazy, also fluorescent lights could cause interference.(does this explain some of the problems some reviewers have had?)

The scales arrived promptly by free Super Saver delivery. Unfortunately the digital display didn't work, hence the loss of a star. However, contacting Amazon resulted in their providing a return label, and a promise that a replacement would be sent by 1st Class mail. This was received a couple of days later, this time fully functional. So what could have been a real headache was virtually painlessly resolved, and 5 star service really appreciated. The scales appear to be accurate, and certainly easier to use than the dial type. The scale is easy to read, and the zero reset button is very useful. Hence the loss of no more stars!Incidentally, there's a slotted screw hole on the base which makes it very easy to store the scales by hanging them on the wall. I didn't see this mentioned in the instructions, though I'll probably get some comments now saying I should have looked properly...

A compact, smart-looking device - easy to store (can hang on the wall if you desire), and easy to use. No need for its own little bowl to find a place for and be limited by - whack any old bowl on it and hit the zero button and you're good to go. Handy to be able to place even a big Pyrex oven dish on it and measure the ingredients directly into it. Of course, you can zero after each ingredient, so you can measure in each ingredient in turn with no trouble!Nice readable display, and measures almost instantly without fluctuating.Heavy enough to stay in place and feel well built, and the stainless steel platform is easy to clean (not that you'll need to do so too much - after all, you're likely to put on the bowl/whatever you're measuring your food into and cooking, which you were going to have to clean anyway - so no additional stuff to clean).

This has been an excellent scale. I bought it in November 2014 and is working perfectly to this day. Extremely tempted to buy another 'just incase' as this one has performed so well with an exceptional amount of use. Used many times a day, everyday. On a few occasions, there have been a few concerns that it may have broken - often due to water entering through the buttons. This has caused the unit to: not respond and count up when not in use to name two. THIS HAS BEEN SOLVED BY placing the scale in the airing cupboard for approximately an hour (longer if you can or need to). Always try this before you go and buy another scale!Very accurate and immediate response; the weight of water goes up as you pour - a massive bonus over some other Salter scales which try to be more fancy.Fantastic.100% recommend and buy again.

These are the best scales I have ever bought. They are nice and small so do not take up lots of space. They are accurate and you can keep zeroing the display when adding new ingredients to the bowl. They got wet into the dislay a few times, but I would put them on the radiator and the next day they would work fine; however this I believe is what eventually killed them after six years of almost daily use.Edit. I first bought these scales in January 2011 and they lasted till appx May 2017. I then tried another more expensive set of salter scales and they packed up within a month of using them and I gave them a negative review and rebought another set of these scales. These scales are a better design allowing you to place bowls that overhang, they are easier to clean and the buttons not so easy to flood with liquids.

I originally saw this scales in a John Lewis store and found it fascinating that you can use your own bowl no matter how large and still see the measuring clock face clearly. Units can be adjusted at the front easily with the press of a button - no having to turn it over like some scales. The add and weigh facility is a dream switching from g/llb oz to fl.oz or ml at your leisure. Storage wise it takes up little room on a worktop or in a cupboard but if you are limited for space there is a wall hanging attachment at the back. I did not want a kitchen scales at that time but now I do John Lewis no longer sell this model shame!!So I was delighted to find it on Amazon THANK YOU AMAZON an excellent product at a reasonable price which holds the Salter name with an excellent guarantee buy it you will not regret it.

As I pour my precisely measured serving of oats for my final catabolic-prevention meal before bed using this quality product, my roommate Jeff stares with a look of scorn and mild disdain upon his visage. "Do you really have to weigh that? What's the point?" He sneers. Little does he know that by measuring my food portions using this top tier product I have managed to maintain a calorific surplus with such accuracy as to GAIN muscle mass with next to no increase in body fat! "Oh it's nothing" I often reply, "Measurement is just a hobby of mine". In reality I guffaw within the confines of my cranium. Share the secret of kitchen scales with the unwashed masses? No thanks Jeff!On a scale of 1 to 10 the Salter Stainless Steel Electronic Kitchen Scale weighs in at a hefty 10/10, would buy again.

I have found these scales easy to use. As they are so flat ingredients do not have to be lifted as high as when using mechanical scales- useful if you have muscular or joint problems. Ingredients can be weighed in almost any kitchen container and the reading zeroed before and between additions. I have been using these almost every day for over a year now and the battery is still in fine fettle. They are accurate enough to be used as dietary scales and units can be changed to g, lb + oz, ml, or fluid oz, to accommodate all recipes at the touch of a button. The display is large and clear and visible when a container is placed on the steel weighing plate. It is easily cleaned with a damp cloth, and takes little space for storing if laid on its' side in a cupboard. I heartily recommend them.

The scales are surprisingly attractive and the metal part is shinier than imagined :)They are a small size and practical. A little smaller than I was expecting, perhaps if you are trying to weigh something on a very big plate for example you might have a problem, but I wouldn't think this is very likely! The only other thing is they seem a little indecisive when weighing very small amounts, say 3-4gThey have a hole on the back for hanging. The good thing is the 15 year warranty. Our previous scales from "James Martin by Wahl" broke about 6 months out of the 1 year warranty. From the other reviews I suspect these might at some point fail, but I'm confident that we can get a replacement without spending another £15 on a new set of scales.

I've used loads of scales over the years and these are definitely one of the best and value for money is second to none in my opinion. They run on batteries, one lithium cr2032 which is included and will last for ages, so no wires getting in the way and you can move the scales around freely. The pan is made from stainless steel so brilliant corrosion resistance and easy to clean. It can weigh from 1g to 5000g (1 kilo) accurately which is spot on at this price. You can change the units of weight to Kilograms, grams, pounds, ounces and fluid ounces, millilitres. The scale is very compact and looks great too! What more can you ask? Salter the company is a name you will recognise as quality.Highly recommended.

I bought this having seen Lorraine Pascale use it or something similar on her cookery programme. I was looking for a way to weigh accurately but needed it to be small as I don't have lots of space. Any bowl/jug/cup etc can be used to weigh ingredients into, the bowl is placed on the scale before switching it on and it automatically reads zero. All ingredients can be weighed into one bowl as the scale can be reset to zero easily. It measures kg, lbs oz, millilitres and fl oz. These can be switched between easily during measuring. It can be hung up the same way as a clock. This product is easy to use, small enough to leave on the counter and accurate.I would recommend it as I now would not be without mine.

Bought to replace similar model which the button covers wore through. This model, the buttons have been modified and are more robust, so that problem will not happen with this. Would have preferred that the stainless steel weighing platform was removable for washing (like the previous model) but it's not an issue really. Also, the buttons are slow to react. Slightly annoying as you have to press to zero the scales (wait) before you press the same button to switch them off (wait to ensure it's registered the press). Other than that, brilliant and despite our previous model being years old, these scales give exactly the same reading. So I have high hopes for the longevity and accuracy of these scales.

These scales are ideal for use in the kitchen when cooking or baking, also for weighing small items such as parcels for ebay etc. The digital readout can be zeroed so that you can add ingredients and weigh as you go along. So if you are baking a cake for instance you can put your own mixing bowl on the platform and zero the readout, then add flour and zero, then sugar and zero and so on. They will accurately measure in grammes, pounds and ounces, fluid ounces and ml.A useful feature is the automatic switch off to save battery power so you can't leave it on by accident. They are also nice and compact so that they don't take up a lot of space in the cupboard.Highly recommended.

Read the extensive reviews on this item and it seemed to be of high quality so I placed an order. It arrived a couple of days earlier than I was led to believe despite the Christmas post! It looks like it will meet my needs and its accuracy is all that I can really want i.e. 1 g accuracy at 5 Kg full load. I've not managed to use it for any purpose yet so will post an update when I have done so. For that reason only, I can only give it 4 stars at the moment. I do like the 15 year guarantee which may mean I'll return to up the rating to 5 stars in due course.I have now used these scales for my hobby work as well as cooking. They are just brilliant hence upgrade of rating to 5*.
