A quantum leap for Revell, which until now has been a good-but-not-great kit manufacturer. This is almost a Tamiya or Dragon-level offering. The molding quality is excellent, with the parts showing virtually no flash or distortion. The detail is crisp and clean and there are no surface blemishes save VERY minor depressions around the saucer's locating pins. It's also a nice large size, but the indicated scale is wrong. It's not 1-500, but closer to 1-1000, which makes for a nice shelf comparison display if you have the Polar Lights - Round 2 1701 Refit. The kit's engineering is shockingly good. Having built Enterprise models from both AMT-Ertl and Polar Lights, I have to say, this is the first kit of this type of ship I've seen that actually mounts the nacelles to the pylons with NO drooping, at least from the side. Which is remarkable, considering how far forward the pylons mount to the nacelles. The NCC-1701 shape is difficult to make into a good, 3D-aligned model because of its mass distribution. Revell has done the best job I've ever seen in that respect.Additionally, the saucer parts are designed to go together with no visible seams, while the nacelle and secondary hull seams are located so that you won't destroy surface detail eliminating them.Unfortunately, the nacelles do splay laterally outward heading aft, necessitating surgery on the pylon-nacelle interface to correct. An experienced modeler will have little trouble with this.Don't let the promotional photo fool you. Whoever built that thing must've been either rushed or just didn't care, because the nacelles don't mount at such an extreme upward angle. My particular kit had a slightly warped port pylon, but a few minutes with a hair dryer let me bend it into alignment. If you're absolutely concerned with the 3D alignment of all four hull modules like I was, I'd recommend jigging the parts together with pieces of sprue while the glue dries, but it WILL hold its shape once fully cured. You can zoom it around the room just taped together - it's that well-engineered. All glued up, it's shockingly sturdy and stable. The instructions are a weak point. For example, many manufacturers, such as Moebius, use the model's CAD drawings in their instructions, giving them a crisp, clean, authoritative look. Revell is still relying on handmade art.Overall, this an excellent kit that will just about fall together, but will need a little help if you're concerned about 100-point geometric accuracy.Oh, and Revell designed it from the get-go for lighting. Even those amazing pylon-nacelle joints incorporate wiring channels, which makes them all the more impressive. Another plus. The only real complaint I have goes out to the aftermarket - Acreation, please make a set of Aztecs for this one!I'd buy this one again.

As a fan of Star Trek, ownership of the enterprise was a must. I wanted a least two incarations of the vessel, the NCC-1701 from the original series (and an upcoming project for Autumn 2020) the NCC-1701 refit from The Motion Picture. I wanted to light the first vessel with LED's to show the ship at its best. The price of a lighting kit varies but they are usually up to a hundred pounds (that is what I was quoted). A quick trip to EBAY solved this. It is a bit of a fiddle to light all the little windows but it is breathtaking to see the end results. The interior of the saucer section will need to be sprayed with undercoat and then top-coated with silver to prevent 'light bleed'showing through the finished model. This applies to all sections you intend to light. The nav lights (red and green on top of the saucer) will need to flash on and off and flash white under the saucer (again EBAY). It was to expensive for me to have the Bussard collectors (red coloured round domes on the front of the nacelles) to have spinning coloured lights, as in the episode. So I had these a dimmed red colour LED.Overall the kit is easy to build. However what they do not tell you on the box is the rear shuttle craft section needs to be weighted, otherwise the ship will tip forward on the stand. I recommend a small heavy ball bearing, you will see on the model the size you will need. If you do intend to light the model, you may to modify the stand and the hole under the vessel where it attaches to the stand for wiring to pass through. You need to spend time trimming the parts and eliminating any wastage plastic left on the parts. Once finished you will have a lovely replica of the famous ship.

The latest iteration of TV and films most famous starship is presented in a large styrene kit from Germany. The design and construction of the kit is logical, but in places, especially the nacelles, the plastic is VERY thin. I felt the need to strengthen the engines themselves and whilst not lighting this particular model, I found there was ample room to do so.The detail on the kit itself is crisp and well defined. The decal sheet is comprehensive but as with all Star Fleet ships since 1979, the movie version featured fine "Aztec" panels that on Round 2 Star Trek kits are represented with decals. Simply painting the ship white leaves it toylike and so I had two options - leave it with a simple base coat until after market decals are released or attempt to paint the panels manually.Having painted several Enterprise kits over the past 30+ years that required this detail I'm afraid I've wussed out and decided to hang fire and complete the build and decals as and when Aztec sheets become available. For that reason I give this otherwise superb kit 4/5

I was somewhat surprised to discover an error on my part when this model arrived as the box was far smaller than I had anticipated. I had incorrectly assumed that I was buying a 1:1 scale model of The Enterprise and had therefore spent two months clearing a large pasture at the end of our garden and a further eleven months building an incredibly expensive hangar in order to have the necessary room for assembly. Six thousand litres of paint and two thousand tubes of glue were also purchased.Having said that, I was not too shaken at the prospect of having to reign in my expectations and set about building this model on the kitchen table over the course of an evening (as opposed to the three years I had set aside for the 1:1 scale model).By the time I was ready to make my Horlicks I had completed this beautiful miniature of The Enterprise and donned my Lieutenant Uhura outfit (including tights) in celebration of my achievement and set off to bed.Highly recommended (the outfit that is) and so too for the model.

I love this kit. It was a fun build. The final product looks awesome. The pieces fit together nicely, no gaps or uneven edges. Plenty of room to add lights if so inclined. The detail is sharp and well defined. I have built every enterprise form the first sail-ship to this star-ship. This looks fabulous right in front of all the others on my display shelf. The one drawback is the decals in this kit are quite possibly the worst I have ever worked with. While they look good, with nice detail, they do not want to stay on. Be prepared to work slow with plenty of decal setting solution. If you are familiar with printing your own decals from the computer then I would scan the decal sheet before starting. You could easily self-print higher quality copies of the same decals. An alternative, if you are good enough at it, is to can the decals altogether and paint it. The ship is large enough that you could realistically paint all of the detail provided by decals.

I wanted to build a good model of the Enterprise - I'm not a modeller, I'm a bit cack-handed, but I wanted to build a model that wouldn't actually embarrass me. I previously built the AMT/Ertl refit Enterprise 1:537 scale, and that was a mixed bag - the pylons/nacelles connections to the hull are so poorly designed that it almost inevitably suffers from drooping, the decals are woeful, so I was a touch nervous about this one from Revell. It couldn't have been more different - it is a beautifully engineered kit that fits together with the minimum of snagging -just a few small bits to sand down. Washed, primed and painted, the model was easy to assemble, and it was - importantly - fun and rewarding to finish.I'll never win a contest with it, but it was such a pleasure to do, and it restored my faith in my abilities. Well done Revell.

A fantastic product for Lighting. One point though, it would have been great to have had Revell include the Aztec Decals for this kit, even if it was more expensive it would have been worth paying the extra. As is, if you want to make this model stand out, you have to buy after market aztec masks which are mostly only available from the USA, and particularly expensive. Enjoyed every part of lighting this kit, but had to purchase a dedicated strobe board to accurately replicate the screen version.Do yourself a favour and buy this kit, its very good quality and excellent value for money. I hope that Revell will launch a bigger version of the USS Enterprise for the hard line modellers out there, rather like the Polar Lights USS Enterprise 1701A Refit. They missed an ideal opportunity to take the Trek Modellers by storm.

I’ve bought this model before during lockdown but I wasn’t very happy about how it went together so I finally got my hands on good glue (Revell Contacta) and decided to go at it again. I wasn’t disappointed this time. I’ve taken my time and really put a lot of effort into it and I’m nearly finished it now. I’ve still to finish off the decals as I was putting them on as I went. It’s a lot easier as when it all together it’s very fiddly. Some of the decals are very difficult and particularly the saucer section ones so if you cut them in half or thirds it’s definitely a lot easier. Some decal softener is a must too and a good set of paintbrushes too.Definitely one of my favourites putting together and I’ve really enjoyed it.

i have just bought and received two REVELL Star Trek into darkness Enterprise model kits 04882, after waiting a very long time to get my hands on a kit like this they are realy nicely (very) made but there is a major problem with one of the parts not been made in clear plastic! This is the IMPULSE engine grills very disappointed :( "Spock would not understand the logic in this".I like many other modellers are/will be disappointed with the IMPULSE engine grills not being made in clear plastic as these should give the modeller the chance to light it, surely it is not because of keeping costs down, apart from this the kit is great and worth buying.Thumbs up all round!

Can't say I've ever been too fond of the design of the enterprise in the JJ Abrams films, but I'm a Trekkie; we're critical of EVERYTHING. I had heard good things about the model on various forums (well molded parts, good solid fit between pieces, very detailed, etc...) All of it is true; Revell has made a great kit. Truly top notch work. First one I purchased, I decided to have some fun and detail it like the 60's TV show ship. Red nacelle caps, copper deflector dish, aluminum body color. I have to say, with those details, I'm far more fond of the design. I've ordered a second kit to build, this time with the proper movie detailing.

I started off looking for an interesting model to build to occupy myself during the lockdown. However, it has slowly turned into a monster of a project. Having seen video clips off YouTube of other models, I am now adding lighting, rotating warp drive blades, and if possible sound effects. The lighting will have 2 sets of flashing lights at different speeds, Photon torpedo lights, and phasor bank lights. I'm adding an internal bridge visible through the window and a full shuttle bay. Then it needs a paint job which will involve at least 6 layers of paint. Just need to bring all this together now.

Nice replica of the original studio miniature, generally. The panel lines are embossed but, to me, this helps detailing. The deflector dish and housing are inaccurate - but not greatly - and the windows slightly too large, but it is a nice size for model-makers with limited space and/or who lack the budget to buy the Polar Lights studio scale kit, though this kit is amenable to lighting too. A better option than the more famous 18" sixties kit (and its re-issues) if you prefer much greater (though NOT complete) accuracy over nostalgia/collectability.

Fantastic model to lightup Revell have supplied two sprues of clear parts for this option, the rest of the model looks the part with very fine engraving all over, have started to work out how to light it up using images from the 2009 film, dry run fits look very good, well done Revell, delivery service from Model Hobbies was excellent arrived within two days from placing order, for the price of a large letter, exellent value/service.eat your heart out Polar Lights by cancelling their model they have missed the market on this one.

I haven't started it yet but inital inspection looks good, It's a clean well produced model. I have not built a model in some time but this one appears straight forward so ought to appeal to a range of kit builders. Those with limited skills will be able to produce a strait from box model with no difficulties, while because of its size and the way it has been produced kit builders with moderate abilities may want to try lighting it. All in all a lovely looking model, now we just need the dreadnought to go with it.

Purchased for an 11 year old star trek fan. His eyes llt up as soon as he saw it.Of course dad had to help put it together and suggested that it may be fun to fit some LED lights to light it up.Much messing around routing wires later it was finally finished and has pride of place on his shelf.i have to say it does look great lit up at night. It was easy to assemble and required little trimming of parts. very nice modelOne happy boy, one successful present. Highly recommended.
