Well to get the bad out of the way first. The molds are from the 50's so the following is a result of this fact. The model is marked level 3 difficulty but should be 4 due to the the amount of work required to fix it.The whole starboard side needs fixing. The main superstructure needs a chop because it does not fit between the fantail section and the forcastle. The starboard forcastle section over hangs the main superstructure so needs sanding and filling. The boatdeck superstructure is not wide enough to cover the deck under the bridge and needs filler. The whole starboard decks are off centre to port meaning the bridge deck is not aligned to the superstructure.The superstructure has to be assembled first but with the life boats attached to the superstructure the boat deck is very hard to slide in. The pothole detail is not present on the superstructure due to the age of the molds. You will have to hit Google for that. The railings will have to be removed because the model will look like a bath toy. Lastly the colours in revell tradition are completely wrong and how they paid someone to paint the box art wrong goes beyond me. The white bootline is missing, the funnells are blue tops not black and the cranes/ mast were famously aluminium. Do your research before painting. Some areas of the deck are grey, not green. Lastly flash is very present in this kit.Now the good, it's a waterline model, it's the United states and finally it's awesome when it's finished and done right. Definitely buy it. The box art is fabulous, colour instructions and it is very quick to build and have in the center of your room. It took me 5 days to do the whole diorama (including the ship) with protective case and varnish which are not i the pics. The pics I have included are the model before the defects have been fixed, the last three are the completed product with fixes. The thing i love about revell kits despite their flaws is that unlike airfix, they actually release them and you feel you get a quality product. Strangely revell did not include rigging for the ship but the paper flags are present which are awesome because I hate the transfer type. For the more advanced modeler, dont be deceived by level 3.

It's been a long time since this kits introduction in the 1950's but the new release is a wonderful change of pace with new and complete instructions and decals. The molding is good and the decals are perfect. With the addition of 1/600 photo-etched railings this could be turned into a real master piece of a historical ship and an underserved modeling subject. Well done to Revell and it's think tank. I hope we see more of these kind of releases.
