I was rather sceptical when these Resident Evil spin off games came out, no original characters and plots did seem rather uninteresting, however I decided to give them a go and so I bought Outbreak. What can I say about this game? Well actually it's pretty damn good once you get into it. In this RE outing you can actually choose which character to play, they range from a Racoon City police officer to a barmaid even a plumber! In apperence it looks just the same as any other Resident Evil game but the gameplay is somewhat different. On each level you choose a character to play and then will have 2 computer controlled characters along side you. These 2 characters follow you and you can give them weapons and health items etc,and you need to watch out for their wellbeing if you want to complete the level as they're the only assistance you have, if they are wounded you may need to help them to safety, sometimes at risk to yourself. Now I know what your thinking, just two mindless drones that will get in the way and slow you down, well I can tell you now, that's not how it works. As I've been playing the game more and more I have found they do actually help you out, you can actually call out for help using the R3 button and they will come running and, if armed, will fire at any zombie, licker or BOW attacking you. You will find many guns and other weapons in the game but don't be greedy because it wont help you, instead of hoarding the weapons hand some to your team mates and they will help you, trust me. The part I find so good about this game is that because you have to look out for other characters in real time you have a more involved gameing experiance, it really gives a sense of commanding responsibility as you actually find yourself dashing recklessly into danger to help them because you actually see them as a friend and want them to survive alongside you. I love that if you find a Magnum handgun and already access to 2 shotguns you'll happily give those guns to the others and keep the Magnum, they're you backup should things get nasty, and they regularly do.Overall I think that this game is based around the 2nd Resident Evil film where one character leads a small group of survivors to safety, so if you like that film then you'll love this. The game does have some downsides but nothing we haven't seen before. As with all the other RE games it takes a day and an age just to go through a door which can become very trying, also the objectives are often very obscure and will often find yourself wandering around aimlessly for ages and then suddenly, but accidentally, stumble across something. However putting these aside the game plays very good, the Scenario game is basically small sub levels, each one is a self contained game really and what with an Infinity mode you can unlock later there's plenty to keep you occupied.

How can Capcom make Resident Evil a scarier experience? How about taking away all the conventional weapons, giving you nothing but the odd power tool and leaving you in a bar with a few complete strangers and undead monsters who prefer human fingers to pork scratchings? With the absence of a rocket launcher and an escape chopper, you can probably guess that stealth is the order of the day. You'll note the locker room hide-and-sneak scenes, lifted directly from the Solid Snake book of How To Very Quiet. It's now possible to hide in said locker, peer at undead horrors through the ventilation grate and pray that nobody finds you. If they do , you could be infected with the T-Virus and eventually become a zombie. But not for long, according to Capcom, which means you can either find a cure or die, painfully.Terrifyingly, moving shadows now act as a early warning signs of approaching enemies, and you'll be able to witness the ominous outline of what appears to be Freddy Krueger's dad, complete with Wolverine-sized claws. Curiously enough, if you do venture online with OUTBREAK, you won't be able to speak, shout or blub to fellow team members. Then again, communicating could make you feel at ease and that's the last thing that Capcom want to do

Other resident evil games fulfilled the 'horror' part of the survival horror genre. This game however is the opposite, and dispenses you into a situation that is getting worse with the arrival of zombies and other hordes of undead monsters. Add in two computer controlled characters, and you'll realise the emphasis is not always on you; monsters never single you out, and the characters have just as much opportunities to interact with the game world as you do. The lack of weapons and items, and the fact enemies pursue you relentlessly from room to room means quick-thinking and hiding is key to survival. The other characters may be a burden, but you dont have to help them. If they die,the game is not over, and you can continue in your escape. This game, though very experimental, has some flaws, but the risks you need to take in order to complete it overshadow these, and rank the game as being one of the classic resident evil titles, whether online or off.

I've been a fan of the franchise and i say that this is the best one yet!!!in many of the other games you had to find this to use that, well there is a small part in this but there is sooo much more to this game than the others. It took me a while to get used to the controls, but once you master them you will be running and calling to your mates in no time. Sometimes the AI can be a bit poor but they do back you up in a fight, the zombie AI is a big improvement, they will hunt you down and they will not stop until you fill them with lead or hit them down with a pipe or a brush! the action is fast, music is great and the graphics are 10X better than dead aim! This time there is alot of replay value,as soon as i finished the first level i went back and did it again with another player (8 in total plus unlockable ones!) Unlike any other resi game the odds are really against you and sometimes you do have to run! stays true to the films and franchise!

people critise this game because they are used to the old Resi's but Capcom did pretty well and appear to have put a lot of though into this game to startwith the charactersKevin Ryman, the CopMark Wilkins, the Security GuardJim Chapman, the Subway AttendantGeorge Hamilton, the DoctorDavid King, the PlumberAlyssa Ashcroft, the News ReporterYoko Suzuki, the StudentCindy Lenno, the WaitressAll with unique attributes, special moves, secret items, personal starting item and personalities (some will pick up all the items otherswill pick up nothing but health items!)The graphics are.. how should I put this...AMAZING!the levels are brilliantly made, and the modes of difficulty stand up to what they are, very hard mode is really good the zombies just keep coming doors dont stop them they'll knock them open, items can be pushed to block their paths, but not for long!this game is a must have for newbies to the series or hardcore fans!

There is a great deal of hype for this game, as there is with any major game - especially when it's a game of such established calibur as Resident Evil is. As we look foward to the new sequel we hope that this will be as sucessful as it's predecessors, as there is always a fear of fall from grace. Luckily though, I have faith in the 'Resi' series, and i believe this will be just as good. From what i have seen, the graphics are pretty breathtaking, bringing the horror into a new level of gut wrenching realism, the sounds/music i have heard so far is rather complimentary to the play, with spooky edges mixed with technical mixing. The gameplay, is going to be the usual aim and fire, but as always,it will have it's specialities and quirks. This is one to look out for, people!

Having played this game whilst on a trip to the States, it was definatly worth the 8 hours on the plane over there, however the reason why i'm missing one star is because it's the same old annoying controls ect, and the acting is hardly academy award winning. Also because it's the online version in America, you cannot pause your game to go for that necessary "No 2" Which you will have a lot of during the game, if you have a Zombie or Mutant near you during gameplay, and you wanna reload your gun, then instead of stopping to go into your inventory, the zombies will attack. VERY dissapointed though that we in the UK don't get to play online, cause this makes the game i think.Worth a look at,not exactly taxing so also good for beginners as well

Actually it's very good, the graphics are excellent, even compared to RE4!,yes it takes a while to load each new room etc.but I had a CPC464 with a tape deck so waiting 15 seconds is nothing to the ten minutes it took to load a 'Game Over' screen on that.It has to be one of the most replayable games there is,as levels require numerous playthroughs to find everything/use all characters.I confess I bought a used copy with no manual, but it's virtually like all RE games and there's always Gamefaqs or the like to get the rest of the details/controls.The only 'bad' thing I've come across so far is the 'Police Squad'subtitles, what's being said bears little or no relevance to the subtitles,it's pretty funny nonetheless.

I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil - I've got all the games, seen the film, got some of the models even, but one way to annoy fans is to have release dates like this. I mean a YEAR away?! What is the matter with them?? The PS3 will almost be out when this is realeased!I can't wait for this game, so I'll probably be getting imported from the USA or Japan. Capcom have really got to pull their act together, otherwise they'll going to find their sales plummet.

Good horror game if only we had to see Leon or Ada too instead we get random peopleYes your infected it's a nice catch to the game one when I had action replay on because it was so freckling hard to master and your on a timerI hate controls going back or forth good try

Personally I like this game it's everything I expected it to be. I gave it a 4 though because you can't use the online mode in the uk version. and I was looking foward to giving my brother a 2 player on it. If your a true resi fan like me then get this game.

2.12.2004

I really liked this game. It's different because you don't have to do it alone- you have other characters to help you and that is really good.I have given it 5 stars coz I think it surely deserves it.

14.8.2015

I had to have this one to add to my Resident Evil games collection.Obviously I do not buy the ones I dislike, hence I bought this, which I consider to be a great game.
