Echoing what the others have said, this 'retail' copy of the game only contains the download code for the associated game from the Nintendo 3ds eshop. Unlike its Japanese release which received a special edition including a magnet shaped like the original Game Boy cartridge, a booklet of stickers associated with the game & a poster featuring a list of all Generation II Pokémon and type chart as well as special packaging, this release has none of that. All you are paying for here is a box, (though a pretty sweet nostalgic box I must say) so I would recommend not paying out more than £8.99, which is the exact pricing of the VC games on the eshop.Whilst an actual 3ds cart with both VC releases would have been absolutely epic, definitely an missed opportunity by Nintendo (even if their Generation 4 remakes HeartGold & SoulSilver take the games to a whole new level), the 3ds VC boxes of both games are a lovely bonus, especially for fans who grew up with Generation I & II & the GB/GBC, & certainly look rather wonderful on the shelf, with an eye catching gleam. So onto the VC games themselves. Straight off the bat, let me say that Generation II is undoubtedly by far my absolute favourite generation. As a 90s baby whose childhood like so many was utterly consumed by RBY on the GBC, it was simply mind blowing to see the next generation of the my favourite games in glorious colour alone, never mind the abundance of new features & mechanics they introduced & improved upon. Whilst I have a lot of love for Generation 6 (X/Y) & 5 (BW2), the original Gold & Silver remain the closest to me to this day along with Blue & the remakes HeartGold & SoulSilver. Being able to play & experience them again in their original form on the 2ds/3ds all these years on is truly wonderful. After the 3d era & rather story heavy/cutscene focus of Generation 6 & 7, Gold & Silver are incredibly refreshing to experience & adventure through again & hold up remarkably well both in visuals & gameplay mechanics. Along with Crystal, many see this generation of games as the absolute peak of the series & it's not hard to see why: first introduction of breeding, day/night cycle, physical/special split & shiny 'mon as well being home to some of the most memorable starters, regional 'mon, rival, gym leaders, route themes, legendaries, league champion(s) & post game content to date, only being surpassed by their Generation 4 remakes HeartGold & SoulSilver. Sure it's the same old formula with the traditional gyms, evil organisation, elite 4 etc that has started to eventually stagnant, but I feel Gold & Silver recapture the pure fun & sense of adventure that seems to be missing & overlooked in favour of plot heavy dialogue, stop start nature & unnecessary features etc of the recent generations. The VC release of Gold & Silver are certainly not without their problems compared to recent generations but they're undoubtedly a thoroughly refreshing & highly enjoyable adventure to experience, whether it's a trip down memory lane or your very first time in the Johto region.Final rating: 4.5 stars

Box just contains code only, nothing else.Game itself is great, last played this 15 years ago and enjoying the replay experience again. Also got Pokémon Silver for a friendReplicates the colors of Game Boy Color so don't expect anything fancy and on the New 2DS XL it does not fill the whole top screen (bars on either side)Buy when Amazon has it in stock or buy Direct from Nintendo E-Store should be 8.99 if in UK not £15+, Don't pay scalper prices!

I like the fact it's a download code, this means it's always on my son's DS, he doesn't have to swap games and he really enjoys playing it

An oldie but truly a goodie, one of the best iterations from the franchise, nostalgia and a great game coupled into one.
