I was rather wary about this game after reading many reviews, but as the reviews started to contradict each other I just took the plunge and bought the game for myself. I think it's a very good game. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is due to the unusual number of cutscenes and the lack of 3D, as well as the post-game content leaving a bit of a void in me.As for the changes in this game compared to previous Pokémon games, I think they are a welcome change. The trials are more interesting than just gyms with facetious puzzles in previous generations. The Island Kahunas are practically gym leaders anyway. One of the most welcome changes for me is the absence of HMs,which allows me to have a proper 6-strong team of Pokémon, whereas in previous games I mostly had 5 battle Pokémon plus a 6th as a 'HM slave'.The Alola-specific Pokémon are a good addition as well, adding more depth and variety to some Pokémon, including some from the very first generation.I am not usually one to drool over graphics, however the graphics in Pokémon Moon have been done very well. They are not too over-the-top, but they do capture the Alola/Hawaiian atmosphere very well and make the game more of a pleasure to play. Further to this, changing your own character's attire is a nice addition that I have been hoping to have for a while.Lastly, the post-game content is good initially, but the battle tree and battle royals are extremely punishing and something perhaps for the most hardcore of gamers. I've just reached 60 hours of gameplay and I've done almost everything except the battle facilities, however I simply cannot be bothered to invest that much more time.Overall, a very good game. Some aspects have been simplified, possibly to lure in Pokémon Go players, but that's not an issue for me, and even the cutscenes serve to develop characters, most of whom I find likeable. My only gripe are the borderline-cheating battle arenas, but that's not a major issue.

I preordered this game just a few days before release, but I still got it on release day. Great service. As for the game itself, I thought it was pretty good. The main campaign is quite long as long as you don't try to rush through it. The game is too easy if you play with the Exp Share on and leave Battle Mode as 'Switch', so I recommend you disable the Exp Share as soon as you get it, and turn the Battle Mode to 'Set'. This is what I did, and it provided a genuine challenge at a few points. When I reached the Elite Four, my pokemon were just slightly below the levels of their pokemon, which meant that I had to play well to beat them. I'm currently just challenging the Battle Tree which is the main postgame battle area, and after that I'll probably be done. I've put in 75 hours so far and might clock up ~100 until I am finished. Pretty decent value. The main negative point for me was how many cutscenes there were. I personally don't care for them and would rather get on with playing the game, but at some points there are multiple cutscenes one after the other (i.e. cutscene, take a few steps forward, cutscene) and I found myself rushing through them just so I could get back to the game. It's also worth mentioning that the framerate is quite bad during double battles. This is really disappointing as I enjoy double battles in the postgame but it becomes a bit frustrating to fight during the lag. Triple battles have also been removed, which is a shame as I enjoyed them a lot in X/Y. I imagine they were only removed because of the lag they would generate. I personally don't see why they changed the engine from X/Y, which could handle this stuff fine.Overall, it's a good game. The mechanics are the best so far (e.g. no more HMs), but I still prefer the experience of the older games, which don't bombard you with cutscenes and don't hold your hand as much. Younger kids will love it but fans of the older games might be a bit disappointed.

If you are a Pokemon fan this is worth a buy for sure it is all in all a great game and will provide a long and splendid story experience, there are a ton of reviews out there so I wont go to in depth. however the only few cons are that it is not a fully fair battle system and at times the AI does get more goes than you which can be extremely frustrating. The game in total can last as long as you want it to, with training of Pokemon lasting weeks and months, online battles and also a new challenge tree mode which makes for very hard AI to beat post game. the ultra beats section is fantastic and provides a good new story line for future games while also allowing you to catch new Pokemon that arevery different from all seen before,More land to explore than before and the graphics are great for the DS, the battle dynamics are given a good shake up so it will provide a good change for long running fans however is easy enough to pick up for new comers to the game It does get a real catch all feel to it and makes you want to keep playing long after the main game is complete. The way shiney Pokemon are caught has changed with the new call for help system, at first this will be a real pain and you will hate them for bringing it in, however after a while and when attempting to catch shiney Pokemon you will be thankful for this new system as it is far better than the one in X and Y. It actually makes shiney Hunting more fun as you feel there is a real chance you may get one each time, even though the odds are still in the 8000 or so to 1 range.

After playing all of the Pokémon games since the Generation I back in the late 90s, I very nearly decided not to buy Sun & Moon. The demo, the pre-release marketing and previews all presented a game that had become more of a visual novel than an RPG. It appeared that Gamefreak had doubled down on the poorest elements of their recent games, and destroyed the core of the games. While Sun & Moon are definitely among the easier Pokémon games - the difficulty curve is shallow, most opponents only have 1 or 2 Pokémon, your rival chooses a Pokémon that is weak against your own, etc. they manage to set themselves apart as some of the best games in the series.A interesting story, compelling characters, and a new set of Island Challenges to replace the traditional 8 Gym lineup combine to form a game that is a must-play for any Pokémon fans,, especially those veterans who have been around since the beginning - it's great to see the new regional variants of some of the Original 151. A good mix of humour and some genuinely touching moments round out one of the most complete Pokémon games in years. One major warning however, the start of the game includes a significant amount of handholding in the form of extensive cutscenes that really drag on, but once you reach the fist city, these are reduced to a more reasonable level, and you're actually allowed to get on with the game. They were fortunately, over early enough to maintain the games' five star rating.

The graphics are brilliant - beautiful scenery, stylish battle sequences and good character detail. I love that they've gone for something different and taken away the gyms. The trials are more challenging, I find. However, as someone who has played Pokemon from Red and Blue, it's kind of annoying. Its definitely aimed at a much younger audience. It seems like nearly half of my playtime so far has been made up of cut scenes and explanations. As helpful as the explanations can be for newbies, they've really dragged them out this time, and the amount of cut scenes is ridiculous. Five steps and there's a cut scene. Turn a corner and there's a long-ass cut scene. Lillie is a pain because she has to show you around places, but she's also the main cause of the cut scenes, so you don't have a choice. Even as a kid, I could work out where the Pokemon centres were - I didn't need someone to show me all that stuff, so it's really frustrating. The Rotom pokedex is also a very child-friendly aspect, as he gives constant hints and tells you what to do.Having said that, the trials, the "call for help" feature that foes have and even some of the trainers make it quite difficult at times. Even I get a bit stroppy..Overall, it's a good game. It's refreshing to have something different in the Pokemon world. I would recommend it to anyone, even Pokemon veterans, as long as you keep an open mind. It's not what I was expecting at all. Especially Team Skull..

Played all Pokémon games since I got Red Version when I was a kid. I still love Pokémon so got this on pre-order and though I haven't got all the way through it yet, it hasn't disappointed me so far. (Can't say if it will be my favorite in the series until I complete it and try out most things)Pokémon Sun and Moon has a lot more differences from previous games in the series, and that's a good thing that they have decided to try new things this time round.New things I like so far are the Trials, Festival Plaza, Poké Pelago and Poké Ride (Lot better than the ride-able Pokemon in X/Y)Though I wish they would return some of the features from previous games. Not talking about Gyms or HMs since it makes a refreshing change that they are gone, though I'm not saying they should be gone permanently. Maybe in a future game they could have both Gyms and Trials. The features I would like to see return would be thing like:- Ball Capsules from D/P- Option to have Pokemon Following you around from HG/SS (though I can see this being a big challenge with how many Pokemon there are now)- Pokemon Contests that were in Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and ORAS- Battle Frontier from Emerald- Multiple regions in one game. Like in Gold, Silver and HG/SS- Secret Bases like in ORAS and the Gen3 games or the Underground bases like in Diamond/Pearl.

Probably the best Pokemon game so far, unlike previous ones that had gyms, this one has trials, Kahunas, and the Elite Four is the Kahunas of the islands. The islands all have unique designs, Lillie was a very interesting character, Cosmog was adorable, pew, the SOS system for more Pokemon appearing made wild battles more challenging, NPCs don't all just have Poke Balls, some have Great Balls, some Nest, some Ultra, more trainers actually use items than just you and the Elite Four. There were a lot of neat details really.X & Y were slightly too easy, this one was harder but in a way that it felt natural that it was harder. Also, HMs and the Item Finder have been replaced with Pokemon Rides, which are awesome and mean you're not wasting a move slot to learn Surf or Fly any more.If there is one downfall for me, it is that it takes more effort to get to the Wonder Trade and GTS now by going to the Festival Plaza and then trade, then choosing an option, then having to choose an option again afterwards so it feels like it takes much longer to Wonder Trade say a box full of version exclusive Alolan Pokemon than it should.

I played this game for several hours since it was delivered, and I'm so addicted to it. The storyline so far, is the best. I have been playing Pokemon since Pokemon Red, and have played every game that was released, and this game is so amazing, it certainly beats Pokemon X and Y by far.The things that make this game special is that there are no gyms, which makes sense since Alola has no League at the beginning of the story. I also love the new PokeRide replacing the HMs, which in my opinion were getting annoying. Now I no longer have to keep a HM Slave on my team. The character customisation has been improved as well since it was first introduced in X and Y.In the first city you have more options rather than just hats (which you no longer have to wear in this game!). Currently on my team are Brionne (female), Pikachu (female), Eevee (male), and Salandit (female).

Best Pokemon game yet! With the hyper over Pokemon Go I was worried they would make too many changes to this game and it would aimed more at the new Pokemon lovers but it's just better! Not having to use HMs to fly and smash etc is the best imporvement they have made. No more switching out your party Pokemon for a FLY able one to get somewhere fast. The graphics are very nice and the new Pokemon are very cool! I have a Crabominable in my party and he is awesome. The only 'bad' thing I can say that stood out for me was the weird arm movements of team Skull. It's funny to watch them talk because nobody talks like that! Haha. The new feature of wild Pokemon calling for help is very cool.If you are a shiny hunter, it will make it slightly easier to encounter one than before. Overall I'm 95% happy with this game.

Being a fan of Pokemon from the beginning and playing nearly every game since the franchise started, I think this game is targeted towards the younger generation. Compared to the other Pokémon games it is very easy and rather annoying with the pin points leading you from one task to the other, there are no challenges or thinking it through. There is also a lot more 'talking' from characters making it long winded. Not the most exciting Pokémon game I have ever played but still enjoyable to some aspects. I am giving it 4 stars because I still believe some of the imagination hasn't disappeared from the original generations, some of these new Pokémon look fantastic but it is a shame that the game wasn't more challenging.

This was the first game from the Pokemon series I've bought since Heartgold Version but I have to say it's truly one of my favorites if not my most favorite Pokemon game ever. From it's trailer, it was the first Pokemon game to excite me as much as it did since Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It truly lived up to my expectations and surpassed them. Also, on a side note, this game works FLAWLESSLY on the Nintendo 2ds in case people wanted to know if there was any difference between it and the 3ds. I've played it on both. Also ordered the game and it arrived in 5 days like it said it would for standard shipping. Im living in Ireland btw, it would probably arrive sooner to the folks living in the UK.Overall super pleased :)

This game is fantastic. A great addition to the Pokemon franchise! They took a few risks with gameplay elements. But they nailed it! Definitely worth the buy if you ask me! I would have given this 5 stars but there unfortunately is a few framerate issues when played on the original 3DS. So in some areas it is a little hard to play, But still playable. So i cannot complain! Ive heard it works better on the 3DS XL. and i think it goes without saying that it runs perfectly fine on the New 3DS/New 3DS XL. But whatever 3DS/2DS you have, this is definitely a title i would recommend. Even to newcomers to the Pokemon franchise!

My experience with the Pokémon gaming franchise isn't very much, I played Pokémon: Red a long time ago and more recently attempted to play Pokémon: Alpha Sapphire. I loved Red and expected Alpha Sapphire to be even better but I didn't enjoy it at all so my expectations were low for this game, but I can comfortably say this is easily the best Pokémon game I've played so far. The difficulty is not impossible but it is certainly harder than previous games, the graphics are very good looking and the gameplay itself is comfortable and engaging. I am very happy I took the chance on buying this game.

Enjoyed the game with vastly improved graphics and in game features. New pokemon, new moves, new places to explore so everything you need in a new pokemon game. The only thing I would say is that I still want creators to make much bigger 'location' to play in considering there are over 800 pokemon now, I don't think that the 4 islands are big enough for this generation of pokemon. Maybe once they've finished with all the pokemon games and episodes etc they'll release a game similar to Gold and Silver but instead you can go and do all the places in the previous games.

18.3.2017

In terms of core pokemon gameplay it's solid and the change to story progression is quite nice, replacing the usual gyms with the alolan trials, and actually making the pokemon you collect seem vastly more important than in other pokemon games, the game has some issues, a lack of post game content means after finishing the game there is very little to do beyond a few side quests, the lack of content in the post game has been an issue since Pokemon X & Y, but apart from that it's a solid game with no devastating glitches or need for the day one patch
