Having worked in the electrical trade for over 20 years I was always impressed with the specifications of this type of iron. When in the trade I used to demo a similar concept made by Polti, which was a steam iron that attached to a Stem generator, they were brilliant but a pain to set up as you need to connect the steam generator first wait 20 minutes for it to heat up and it fast ran out of water which again was another slow process refilling, plus it was all very expensive.I’d fancied one of these for along time, like a lot of people you tend to wait until your old iron breaks before you replace it.I was offered one to review a couple of years ago and have enjoyed using it over the last few years.First impressions are good well made iron, smaller than my other one, and a lot lighter. You fill this direct, my other has a detachable tank which I do prefer, does get heavy when full of water. Its performance is fantastic, you control the steam as you require, had no issues with it performance is was perfect each timeDoes the Philips make Ironing more enjoyable, probably not, but It does make it easier and faster. This is an extremely well made product that works extremely well, Don't wait for your old iron to break, buy one of these they are brilliant.

The product page where I'm posting this review is for the Philips GC7805 Compact Steam Generator Iron, which I was sent as a Vine item in July 2017. At the time of writing, the reviews seem to be mixed with reviews for the Philips GC7833/80, which has significantly different features, and all the reviews for the two products appear on both product pages. Hopefully, by the time you read this review, the issue will be resolved. You just need to check that you are reading the review for the right product. The GC7805 is an excellent iron, delivering everything promised in the product description. The only problems some people might have with it are the size and weight. You can’t disconnect the iron from the stand that holds the water, so when you carry the whole thing, full of water, it is quite heavy. Also, the whole unit is rather bulky and the space at the end of your ironing board, where you usually park your iron, will probably be too small to hold it. It therefore occupies space on the board itself. For me, those are very minor considerations. If you do a lot of mixed ironing, with several different fabrics, you should consider treating yourself to this fine piece of technology.

I have a older model of this iron and though it's good, in terms of ironing tricky creases, it's huge and as it's got older, started to take up to twenty minutes to warm up and release a decent amount of steam. However, knowing how good it was when still in its youth, I had high hopes for this one. So.... overall, despite views of others, for me, this is easierbti store. But much bigger than a standard size iron and fits on my ironing board just fine. Easy to fill with water, though with the real colour, slightly harder to see the water line but nothing which causes a major gripe. Heats up well before two minutes and crucially, ironed some of my trickier clothes, such as easy to crease linen dresses and shirts without any difficulty. The steam is great and made thuja a much easier task. So why not five stars? Well, the steam can be a bit unpleasant with the way it comes out but nothing that I would suggest is dangerous and this iron really does deliver in terms of reducing time and effort. This is a really decent iron and I would recommend if you're a tired, full time working parent like me.

Hubs is the iron-er par excellence in our house, and he loved this immediately he tried it out - we have an older iron of this type that I've avoided like the plague due to the noise it emits when it releases steam. This is slightly smaller and lighter than the model that we have, which makes handling easier for me. It didn't take long to heat up, and moving from a lacy shirt to a pair of jeans didn't result in a wait for the iron to heat up - minimal ironing time, bonus. This also wouldn't burn your ironing table if you left the iron face down whilst you move things around, but, the plate/base is small enough to sit on the metal end of the table. This thing glides like magic - it goes around collars and buttonholes without concertina'ing them. There's none of the calcium particles that get released with older style steam irons. Normally hubs uses distilled water in our iron, because we live in a hard water area, but this has a descaler feature built-in. Despite the noise, which does make me a little nervous, it feels safe and sturdy to use. It's a win-win for me.

I am a converted user of Steam Generator Irons and found this one absolutely fantastic, on delicate fabrics in particular. I had 100% trust in the heat sensor and blasted through a good few hours of ironing from linen to cotton, to viscose and silk, with ease. It took a while to get out of second gear, and I totally recommend turbo mode, but once it had got going I would rate it 5 star. (Just loses 1/2 a star for the slow get go)...The whole unit is so light it makes you question its efficacy - but fear not - it does the job and does it well!I also introduced a friend, a Steam Generator Iron novice, to the unit - who was sceptical at best ...and 5 hours ironing flew by and the sceptic is now an impressed convert! She in turn introduced a friend - an older lady in her 70's who isn't into new 'fandangled' stuff.... however the microwave comment was hers. She found it very easy to use and fill and carry. It really does cut the ironing time in half and provides excellent results.4.5/5

This is my third steam iron and I must say I was reasonably impressed. The first thing anyone who uses a normal iron will notice is the size. Steam Irons are not the smallest things however I was pleasantly surprised at how much more compact this one was as well as being that bit lighter than my other model. It sits comfortably on the ironing board and is relatively light to hold. The large water tank gave me enough steam for a marathon of an hours ironing which is plenty. The Phillips model uses clever technology so that there is not actually a temperature gauge on this iron but I haven't found an item I cannot iron yet so this didn't put me off. Another great feature is a de-scaler 'bath'which means no more expensive cartridges. It's a little on the pricey side but I think that is justified however may put some people off. Definitely a more compact version of an extremely good steam iron!

Pros: can get through lots of ironing without constantly topping up the water - also as the water is in the base unit, this iron is much lighter than normal irons; excellent manoeuvrability; also uses one single temperature setting (OptimalTEMP technology) for all clothes and so far it's worked and means I can iron clothes in any order - but haven't tried any delicates yet; tackles incredibly difficult to iron clothes with ease and speed - I've considerably cut down on my ironing time!Cons: can't choose temperature which I don't like when ironing anything delicate - I like to be able to choose a cool setting; Not really a problem for me but the iron has no safety lock to secure the iron to thebase which could cause issues with young children etcOverall love the iron!

On opening the box I was surprised to find a plastic tray not pictured in the Amazon gallery. This is for decalcing/descaling. Instructions are on the side of the tray.I have used this type of iron before and love the way there is no temperature control. This means you can actually leave the iron flat on clothing for a time and no damage, burning will occur. However, that will mean more steam is required, thus more water usage. I have a large size ironing board and the reservoir tank fits nicely on the end, just like on the video in the gallery.WARNING: THE STEAM PIPE MAY BECOME RATHER HOT.The instructions are basic but thorough enough.Overall, very easy to use and works very well.Just one star off for the price. It seems a little too expensive.

An improvement over our current Philips GC7635/30 that we have had for two years. You now get more steam power and a bigger steam boost, over the older models. The great advantages of these Philips steam boosts irons are that they just take 2 minutes to heat up (as indicated by a blue light), you iron your clothes quicker, it feels light, and it looks great. The best bit is that when you are not ironing and having a well earned tea break, you can leave the iron resting on its sole plate. Super. The steam button is located under the handle. Turbo steam is available either by holding the power button for 2 seconds when switching on or by double pressing the steam button. Easy.Great design. Compact iron. The only problem is the £150 expense.

I love this iron - it is so very easy to use and it is foolproof, which is perfect for me.. I hate ironing but this lovely Philips iron makes it so fast and drama-free that it is almost a pleasure to get stuck into contents of the ironing basket. The iron is light weight, steam irons beautifully - plus you don't have to adjust the temperature between garments and you never burn or melt anything, which is outstanding. You just put your favourite music on and work your way through the pile of ironing without thinking about it and the next thing you know you have a load of perfectly ironed clothes. And it turns off if you get distracted.

This iron is a steam generator so comes with a water tank.It is described as a compact version but we did find that it depends on you ironing board if this correct, I have a large board and found that the unit sat comfortably on it but my sister tried it as well and she has a smaller board and found that it took up a lot of the space on it.Being Philips it is well made and packaged and works well ironing is easy and quick with a good steam generation to iron through stubborn creases. If you are looking to get a new ironing system then you can’t go far wrong with this.

Impressive Phillips product. Used it on work shirts and despite its lightweight nature the steam generated powers through and your shirts creating creases sharp enough to cut your hand. The water tank holds a sizeable amount and you are don't need to constantly refill. The question is the price since you can get perfectly good irons for much cheaper. This is a Phillips high end brand and ultimately you are paying for the convienance of the extra time that this product saves. It really does wiz through the iron pile.

This is a very good iron. Relatively lightweight. Easy to use. irons effectively and with ease without having to adjust temperatures. Self clean function. Easy to fill. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and this is a very good iron that really does work well. Ironing is never a pleasure but this iron makes it less of an ordeal! Good iron. I am impressed. .

15.8.2017

This is simply the best iron I've ever used. It is light, easy to manoevre, produces masses of steam, and, on top of all this, there is no need to continually adjust the temperature. Perhaps those with big families will need something larger, but for those of us who only do small loads of washing, it is absolutely ideal.

27.7.2017

Great iron by Philips my 'goto' manufacturer. Not heavy and irons effortlessly. My only reservation is the price, but I suppose you should expect to pay extra for the new OptimalTEMP technology. Works very well though. No need to adjust the temperature..
