I bought this for my Staffordshire Bull Terrier because after training her to ring a bell to let her go outside, after getting up every 15 minutes to open and shut the back door ? I thought I either train her to shut the door when she came back in or purchase a dog flap!So I purchased the dog flap... I went for the medium as she's approximately 15kg. When it came I was mmm ? looked a little small, so I ordered the the large also, well I felt a bit like Goldilocks at this point as it was massive. Anyway after a bit of coaxing managed to see her go through the medium.I volunteered my pa to fit it into my vintage back door. The instructions seemed relatively straightforward...I thought.Just a word of warning and the reason for the four stars was the template is not correct (according to my pa) by one eighth (whatever that means think it's roughly 10mm) if he had cut the hole out according to the template he would have been fitting the bolts into the hole ?Another thing to keep in mind is that if you don't have a flat door you will need to accommodate the gap. He needed to fit extra pieces of wood.Anyway he managed to do the job bless him... wasn't a quick job, a few hours or more. You need to cut the bolts to size also to the thickness of the door. (I have popped some pictures to show.Well my pooch has gone through it a few times with treats but think it will take a bit more training, also the outside step is higher so she needs to jump up and through, although she can do it, she's a determined little monkey ?The plastic is a bit flimsy, but for money paid I wouldn't complain. So if you have the skills or know someone who does and not on an expensive door this is ok and my door was battered anyway so I wasn't losing much if it didn't work ?.I'm just hoping I will be able to sit for a whole hour now without having to open the back door!! That would be bliss!! ?UPDATE!Ok this is the best thing I've done!! It's been a week so I can't comment on longevity but as for my sanity and peace ✌️It's great! She comes and goes whenever she pleases! Plus I'm nice a toasty cos the door is not letting in all the cold air (positive for the Enviromentalist... using less energy on heating) plus I can chill for longer than 15 minutes. My pa did also update me about the template issue... I said it was incorrect but it is soooo exact that if the drill hole wanders just slightly you would end up in the main hole and not square up to meet the inside piece. ?Definitely recommend it so far! ?Ps my pooch now uses it to escape bath time ? I didn't account for that but luckily there is a cover to block it off!!

Good dog flap, with only one area for improvement, and that's in the strength of the outside flap. The flap works by having the middle translucent panel allowed to swing both ways, whilst the outer flap can only swing from inside to outside. This means it seals nicely when shut. However, this outside part (the white square part) is quite thin.We have some enthusiastic large (35kgs+) dogs, and I'm now on my third flap in 18 months as the outer part of the flap keeps snapping if the dogs hurry through too fast too many times. It's a shame, because the flap itself is good.Fitting wise, a half-competent DIY'er should be able to fit this in an hour or so - I've done this several times now so it's quite straightforward. You'll need to trim down the long screws provided so factor that in when you're preparing to install it - I used a dremmel with a cut-off wheel.Plan your cut as you can't add material back! The best advice I can give you is to buy a replacement panel for the bottom of the door - I think I got one online for around £25. Our bottom door panel was patterned (IE, not perfectly flat) and this meant installing the flap would be difficult to seal to the surface due to the raised pattern. Buying a flat plain panel solves this issue, and it means I can just re-install the original panel should I need to return to standard. Also, if your flap does break, you can just swap the panel back to the standard one until you get a replacement.Overall, I'm very happy. It would just be nice if they lasted a little longer - but part of that is down to my dogs charging in through the flap, so I can't completely blame PetSafe!I hope that's helped - please see the video of it in action!

I've been using this exact type and size (medium) for 19 years in our current and previous house. We currently have two working type cocker spaniels and previously had two show type cockers. This size was/is fine for all of them. With a ramp and platform at both sides they all easily managed the flap installed at adult dog height when they were very small puppies. We also had no difficulty with this arrangement with a fully grown dog and puppy both using the flap. They are reasonably well made but I've had to replace them (or parts of them) every 3-4 years. I'm think spare parts are available separately but in terms of value for money I have always bought whole units and held on to any usable parts (which I have reused a over the years as far as possible before buying another door). One big plus is that the original template that fits to the door has remained constant, which is what has allowed me to replace without needing a new door or panel. Ours is currently set in a static UPVC panel rather than a door frame. I don't think the usable product lifetime reflects poor quality. I may originally have thought a dog would gently nudge the flap open and carefully step though. No such thing with any of ours. Once they have the hang of these, the treat the flap as invisible and crash (very noisily) through it while running at full tilt. So, to be fair, they really do get a battering all day every day.The main downside is the draft and heat loss. When the inner shutter isn't down, a strong wind will blow the flap open. I think this is unavoidable if the magnetic latch has to be loose enough to allow dogs to crash through it without injury.

I've had many flaps for dogs and cats in my time and having moved house needed a new flap for my collie / lab to go in and out. This was a very good price compared to others I have bought and is slightly smaller than my last flap, but I didnt want anything too big. It is fairly lightweight, and so is easily managed by my ten month old kitten as well. But becuase the flap is lightwieght it does tend to stay open in very high wind. I put the cover in place on this particularly stormy night, but you could also glue some metal weights to the flap to help it close. The flap comes with a slide in cover, so is secure when you want to shut your animals in or are away.It also comes with a sleeve to put between the front and back opening in your door which is good and can be easily cut to size. The only downside of this flap is the design makes it difficult to screw to the wood and there may be a prob with thinner wood splitting, as the screw holes are very close to the opening you have just cut - they could design this with a slightly bigger rim to resolve this prob. It comes with a paper guide, but my huband said it was not very accurate, in the end he just used the flap itself to mark out the most accurate hole to cut and screw holes to fit. It can also be used for pvc and mdf doors.

I’m really happy with this product.I actually bought this as we already had a dog flap of the same make installed in our front door, which I had put in by a professional who cut the panel and fitted it etc (I’m not one for attempting that) so this was a replacement purely because the old one was brown and I preferred white!Product came on the delivery date, intact and packaged just fine inside.Installation was so easy (hardly rocket science to take one flap off and fit another) but all the equipment was present as stated, and all holes accurate (sounds daft, but I’ve had those sorts of issues with other things before!). I did however, use the old screws from the flap I took off,as the new ones are quite long.. but if you’ve got the equipment to hack them down to size then happy days.I like it, our Labrador hasn’t noticed, but it looks tidy.I’d happily buy one again in the future should I need to.Only small criticism from me is that it would be nice to have had a panel or something on the inside to stop the screws from showing and the inside of the door itself.I feel for the guys and girls who have had a bad experience with this, but I’ve got no complaints.Good work!

I bought this to replace a different cat flap that our puppy had chewed up a couple of years ago.The instructions came with a cut out and use template which made installation easier than measuring with a tape. I stuck the template over my existing hole and trimmed to suit. If this was a first time installation, taping on the template and drilling the corners is the ideal way of knowing you are cutting out the correct sized hole.I'd read a few reviews that it doesn't open fully - they're wrong. When installing, it's easy to make sure it opens fully by opening the cat flap fully, then mark your 4 drill holes. If you do this it opens when fitted. To seal closed, you can insert the hard plastic guard it comes with. You will get no visitors! This is for fitting to a solid door and it comes with different length screws to fit to different thickness doors. My only reason for giving this 4 and not 5 stars is it didn't come with washers, and the nuts are so small they pull through the plastic frame. I improvised using larger nuts as washers, but it irritated me that I had to improvise.Fantastic value and very easy to fit and use.

Bought this type of catflap for installing in one of our sheds where we keep rabbits and guinea pigs. I have not bought this type of catflap before for use in the house for our cats as I don't particularly like the design. I got these because they were cheaper than others I looked at, and because they were only going in the shed. However, they work well in the shed. The rabbits have got used to using them so they can get in to and out of the shed from and to the outside runs - one on each side of the shed - I know, they are spoilt! Because the guinea pigs can't open them - they're not that strong - the catflaps are left propped open during the day so they can get in and out too.At night the catflaps are closed, still allowing the rabbits egress and access but not the piggies. They also stop rats / mice getting in. I also like the sliding partition for completely shutting off access and egress if necessary. Overall, the catflaps serve their purpose in the shed, and I can't find fault in them, which is why I'm giving 5 stars. As I've mentioned, though, I would not have bought these for use by our cats.

Got this to replace one I had fitted 10 years ago but has now disintegrated due to weathering and sunlight. Comes with several sets of screws - but sadly none of them fitted the thickness of my door. I was able to remove three old screws(thanks WD40!) and fit the new door - the 4th had to be sawn off and I'm now hunting a replacement. The door is said to match the earlier models - and 99% it does, but the swing flap is a couple of mm wider so I will have to file it down to stop it catching. The fitting, like the original, does not fit flush with the door, so, as before, some sealant will be required. (This may not be a problem for everyone, but my builders who installed the original when I had an extension built had this problem.)That all said, it looks good and the drop down door seal/lock works fine. Once I've ironed out these quibbles I'm sure I'll get another 10 years. I was relieved to find that the screw holes do match those of the original door.

I have had two of these for some years. The dogs soon get to know how to use them when they realise they swivel both ways. I live in Cyprus so have fitted my two to the inner fly screens which is easy to do, but does require the screws to be cut down in length, and run a knife on the inside to cut away the fly screen. These cost a fortune here (£70-80) which is a joke, hence I buy off Amazon UK and get them shipped. I have had to replace one with a broken door as the dogs get excited at me arriving and I can hear them banging the door from the outside against the outer door. It says something for its manufacture that it lasted so long. The dogs also use them at night when they want to go out as a system of waking me,rather thanusing the floor. I never taught them that, but they soon realised it got my attention. Even the strays I take in take about a morning to realise they can come and go without me having to open the door to let them out.

This item was purchased to replace a model of the same design which had been in daily use by two dogs and two cats for 20 years and had eventually broken! Delighted to find that the pet door was exactly the same dimensions and bolt holes in exactly the same place after all this time. I was expecting to need the bottom door panel replacing - the old bolts had rusted on so the old flap had to be broken off and the bolts removed with a grinder, but after that it was a straight forward replacement. The flap is hard so does make quite a noise when in use but the magnet keeps the flap shut when not being used. The design of the interior locking flap has been changed since the original model which I had and I don't think that is as good - quite fiddly to get into the groove and instead of a sliding lock the flap just locks in with the inbuilt lug on the bottom of it.Product arrived promptly and was well packaged.

This item is great value for money, the cheapest i've found.Fantastic product, good quality, well packaged.Full instructions for fitting are included in the box, it can be fitted to both older style wooden doors, and also more modern metal doors.Delivery was fast, and free, what more can you ask for.I have got two dog's and a cat, so having fitted this pet door, they can now pop in and out of the garden when they need to.I no longer have to keep letting them out to do what they need to do.There's no more having to stand on the doorstep freezing, waiting for them to come in again.I will definately purchase this product again from this seller should the need ariseI might even get another one anyway at this price, just in case i need any spare parts at any time, as the cost of buying TWO of these from here, is CHEAPER than buying ONE, from my local shop's.

Needed to replace a dog flap and bought this. Really hay with this as wasn’t as much as the last one and a little different in design but love this one so much more. It has a large magnet so when it’s windy it doesn’t open like the last one and helps keep the kitchen and house warm. It’s a little louder as has an extra flap which helps with the previous wind problem which doesn’t bother me as the pro weighs out the con! My dogs one the rain but my house doesn’t so the extra bit to shut it is perfect. Easy to install just cut a hole and 4 holes and you’re sorted. You can hide any shoddy cutting but the plastic “fillers” so looks professional done. I found it easier buying shorter bolts than cutting then down.I’d also recommend sealing around the outside frame with silicon or something like that just to stop any potential rain water going where it shouldn’t.

I've bought this type of flap before so I know what to expect. It's useful for me because it includes a slide in panel to totally lock the door as my cats just barge their way through a 4way mechanism. Negatives would be the position of the screw holes, very close to the edge of the frame you have to be very accurate with your cut out. Also there is no filler/tunnel with this so you see the raw edges of the door inside the flap. Positives, comes with 3 different lengths of bolts so should be something for all doors. I put mine in the garden gate and used the medium length. It's fairly generous for a small flap, my large cat has managed to bring himself and a flapping pigeon through it!The colour is nice just as shown I've seen some brown flaps are a fake wood grain this is just glossy dark brown. Well that's as much as you can say about a cat flap really.

This is the second one of these I have bought. The first one fell apart after 11 years of constant use by my Jack Russell dog which, I have no complaints about. The new one makes a bit of a noise similar to the first one when used but for the price I think it is good value for money. I priced this product at a local pet store and it cost £32 the one on Amazon was £17, no contest.I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hatch door, fitting is pretty easy with a bit of DIY skill and the right tools, instructions are clear and there is a template to enable accurate fitting. It keeps out the rain and wind and can be blocked off when not in use.If it has a down side it would be that it does not prevent unwanted visitors gaining entry. For this you will need one with a magnetic or electronic locking device.

Bought to replace the old one (same make) which was used daily by my lively Jack Russell and lasted 7 years. Not sure this one will last as long though as it doesn't seem to be made from the same material, looks and feels less robust............................................................................................................................................................................................................Lasted just over 4 years, same amount of use from small lively Jack Russell. This one didn't weather as well as it yellowed on the outside, needed to replace as the rim on the flap split and a small crack appeared on the transparent plastic. Still,it did last a lot longer than I thought it would.Personally would prefer to pay a bit more for bit better quality. Would buy again, not too soon I hope!!
