the dog owners dilemma..something made the dog more fearful and yet avoiding all dogs is impossible. you either pull them along in town and frighten everyone including your dog, or you go to open ground and get dragged by leads due to it being a scenting dog and every other dog is off lead which in a pack doesnt work as one copies the other..so you take them seperate and get desperate. some are on lead some are not and just a nightmare if you have a pack of dogs. visibility on public paths is really poor in most areas and you cant know when a dog will come around a corner or bushes..unexpected things like horses or joggers well you cant always train for everything and when you try the horse owners assume your eyeing up stealing them and erect fencing so your miles away.my girl loves to swim and retrieve (only downside) and is super duper high energy needing to run run run (pointer cross collie maybe) having found she is a total escape artist..getting out of harnesses..halti's...collars..its been a long expensive journey with a lot of apologies. to the point now where my heart races and she has no hope of behaving well as im so nervous and worried she will get off the lead-walking her in the village means she has to confront her fears without escape and pants before every corner which cant be fun. so....muzzle time. had i a low-medium energy dog not of her breed perhaps id have have said ok-but no..she has double the energy release needs than that of my collie. it all builds up and you have a nerve bundle, miserable dog at home who has to watch pining as you go on trips with the others in the car who never gets to swim or run..as everyone knows long leads can be a danger..and fear goes above any good training ive found. i HAVE to find a compassionate way to help her so she has options of socialising or keeping away. i trained her to like it using treats..and though when she gets hot it does irritate her and she tries to remove it..also when dogs come out of the water with sticks she can have a go as she wants a stick /ball and cant have it due to the muzzle which i know is frustrting. but it is the price i pay for calming my nerves, her security so that she is not accused of biting, and everyone else too. im lucky in that its not fighting as such just charge with growl/bark so i never have to intervene i just shout oi and she runs back to me and we are working on it during the week with critical distance..i go lonely places at lonely times to reduce this and let her expend that energy and then when its expended ive taken her to apopular off lead park a good way from mine where i can visibly see whos on lead and avoid as on lead dog gets a fright and my girl gets reinforced as dog cant respond for her to learn. my god what a different dog on lead in village or off in an open space..ive been pleasantly surprised at how her issues are nowhere near what it looks like on lead , at one point being surrounded by dogs and two chiwahwahs in tutus without her even bothered..she was obsessed with the swimming. yes there is the odd shouty person but usually i try and approoach at distance and explain what im doing and ive had such positive responses, the odd not so but its rare.if you go somewhere where they take them to socialise you find they are much more accustomed to normal dog behaviour than other places where its mostly on lead.last encounter she saw 5 big dogs on a narrow path and came running back to me..major breakthrough-ive found its bigger dogs..fast dogs that she most worried about especially on a narrow path -after some time i have no doubt she will either play with them or keep with me and not react anymore as she seems to be getting caalmer about the whole thing now ive used muzzle and given her freedom back as she isnt bubbling over with excess energy..im super reassured as ive tested this muzzle ages before i met dogs and she cant get it off at all. the plastic is really strong..you can feed treats though its difficult..and the metal clasp is 100% safer than the previous model which always snapped..i dont use the head strap. also i didnt know about the stretching it to fit in hot water tip...so i now have one spare as its too big but ill give it to a rescue. my fear was always- "right, what if i keep it away from dogs and everyone forever and then suddenly lead breaks..dogs runs into their face, etc etc.."i dont feel ok or like a responsible dog owner not to have socialized her at all as a rule and then blaming others if their dogs get a bite i find that crazy..a lead is not infallible and doesn't excuse no good training, and what if it bit a child while on lead..of course its still your dogs fault!! you cant say well it shouldn't have ran up to my dog!-and seeing people hiding behind cars and all sorts in my neighborhood it feels like pacman and just crazy stressful and nothing for the dogs needs really. it was amazing how seeing her on lead made me terrified to let her go..restrict her life-only to realize later its nowhere near it off lead-i wish everyone knew that on lead behavior can even be total opposite to off and not to let it scare them off socializing and getting their needs met. to be fair..a good number of jack russels and esp frenchies and so , do what she does with owners never thinking its a problem yet theres me going bright red and feeling terrible..so i hope people realize i really do and am really working on it all for the good of my dog and others x if you too are in this position i really recommend this muzzle. ive binned all the others and no longer need to worry about somehow losing hold of her nor horrid walks on the block with useless cheese and disapproving looks and evenings spent trying to wear her out in the house without a minute peace!im very confident that this is far better and more humane way at reducing aggression than other methods.and actually now see that pulling her around on a cord when she is terrified was actually super cruel increasing her fear, ihope in future shame gets removed from dog ownership..its not always the owners fault..esp when we take on rescues and judging others is awful and non supportive, this removes that isolation and everyone feels better x andbest yet your dog has a life again.last point..ive tried lots of "less intimidatin" looking muzzles..and concluded that it is massvively risky to use on on a whole walk..dogs NEED to pant or they can die during their walk..soo dangerous..she kept collapsing with another well known one ancol i believe..if its needed for the length of a walk..ALWAYS use an open one and not one where the dogs jaw is kept nearly close..-stuff what others think or that it "looks" like your dog is more dangerous..appeasing others wouldnt be on your priority list if your dog dies in the process -educate owners that look worried about it..

***UPDATE***: It's now been nearly two years since I purchased this muzzle for the first time. Using this device as a tool, I have successfully rehabilitated my dog and he no longer suffers from separation anxiety. We gladly leave our dog out free roaming in the house with no muzzle now and this was only after using this muzzle for a short while. I truly wish more people knew about this training technique, as it was our last hope and it actually worked.------I LOVE my dog. I have NO IDEA why society has made muzzles out to be this terrible mistreatment of animals. When used properly, they are an exceptional tool that have enabled my dog to have a much happier life than he had before.I got my dog as a rescue from a local shelter, and like many rescue dogs he doesn't come without issues, but I don't love him any less.My dog suffers from severe separation anxiety. When we aren't home, he gets really anxious and his outlet is to chew on things and destroy them. This is very damaging to our property, and more importantly to him as well. We had no choice but to keep him caged up while we were away from home, but that isn't a good solution. He doesn't like it clearly, and we don't either but we felt trapped like we had no choice. His separation anxiety only intensified to the point that he even began destroying his crates and became uncontainable. The feeling was terrible... our dog was hurting himself chewing up heavy metal, and we had spent easily over $300 on replacement crates. This is when my desperation caused me to start exploring other options.I took a chance on using this muzzle, I had no idea how it would work out, and I had the society standard ideals of muzzles of all kinds are terrible. Desperate and out of options, I decided to give it a chance after researching and discovering I should use an open basket style muzzle. This is an open basket style muzzle. It also is a soft plastic, so it's gentle on the dog as well as anything he runs into.To my surprise, my dog actually didn't eat this muzzle immediately as I suspected might happen. Since he is unable to reach the muzzle he really can't get to it to chew on it. Finally, I was able to give my dog the freedom of roaming around the house while we were away and not have to worry about him hurting himself and our belongings. Now, after using the muzzle for maybe 6 months or so, we have finally been able to take it off and allow him to roam the house freely with no muzzle!!! This would have NEVER happened keeping him in the crate, because it made the problem worse. He has been successfully at home with minimal incidents over the course of maybe 1-2 months now. We would never had made this progress without using this muzzle as a tool.Society really needs to learn a thing or two about muzzles, because honestly I would have never used his crate in the first place if I didn't have that "muzzles are evil" view that everyone seems to have. Muzzles aren't even, this muzzle saved my dog! Had it continued the way it was before the muzzle, I have no doubt he would have seriously injured himself. Even worse, most owners would have given up on him and he probably wouldn't have been adoptable with his behavior problems. My dog is still far from perfect, but believe me this is the best decision I have ever made hands down for my dog.

I have an Anatolian Shepard which has a bit of an over protection slant to him (which is common for that breed). Taking him to the dog park was always a bit of challenge as he would put the hurt on any dog that would come within 5 or so feet of me. We tried a number of muzzles but this is by FAR the best one we have owned. The muzzle is made from a very durable plastic/rubber that is malleable (you can squish it in your hands). The dog can eat and drink with is on - and even pick up a ball or frisbee with a bit of determination...yet it keeps him out of trouble. No one wants to be "that guy with the mean dog at the dog park". This muzzle has helped a TON with socialization and he wears it every time he goes in public.Because he now associates the muzzle with "going out" he loves it and will sit patiently while I put it on him.Pros:Made from great material - flexible and dog can eat and drink with no problems. In warmer environments (or summer time anywhere) this type of muzzle is a must as the dog can open his mouth and pant (not so with the "sleeve type")Easy to put on if you have a 2nd dedicated collar for this muzzle (see the con's list)Cons:To properly attach, there is a strap/loop on the bottom part of the muzzle - The collar MUST go through the loop..so either you have to take off your dogs collar and slide it though the loop EVERY TIME you put this on..or just buy a 2nd collar dedicated for muzzle. NOTE: this design, while sturdy is kind of a pain until you just resign yourself to buy a 2nd collar.. this could be fixed in the manufacturing process by adding velcro or a snap instead of a permanent loop... also if you have a 2nd collar - don't forget to get a 2nd dog registration tag (or transfer the tag EVERY TIME).While the muzzle is built great and made from the perfect material... my dog started getting a "hot spot" on the bridge of his nose, right where the muzzle rests on it. This was an easy fix. I took an old koozie (beer cooler things) and cut a piece about 4 inches long by about 1 inch. I super glued it along the inside of the plastic. Now the neoprene from the koozie rests on his nose and the hotspot is gone.. this design would make this awesome muzzle even awesomer(?) and shouldn't add much to the price (my koozie was about $1.00 and I could have "fixed" about 10 of these muzzles with a single koozie)...Giving it a STRONG 4 out of 5 - only because of the 2 "design" issues - both are easy fixes.. I HIGHLY recommend this muzzle.Oh and one last thing:To ANY dog owner who is on the fence about getting a muzzle. GET THE MUZZLE Maybe your dog might, every once in a while, get in a scrap at the dog park... just do it. Get the muzzle. Your dog will come to love it and you don't have to worry about any problems. And please don't be the person who thinks "My dog needs to defend itself, I'm not getting a muzzle"... no..just no.. if your dog gets attacked, I promise you it can still fight back - at least long enough for you to break it up..if you are more than 50 yards away from your dog at the park - you are doing something wrong. Don't be "that guy" whos dog ruins everyone else's fun at the park. Get the muzzle.. for less than $20 it's the cheapest insurance you can get.

I have two, two-year old male dogs -- an 80lb husky/pit bull mix, and a 90lb pit bull -- that have very recently decided they want to go to war over everything instead of using some manners and mutual respect to solve their issues. The most recent fight resulted in vet bills and both me and my fiance being bitten trying to utilize some bunk "throw a blanket over fighting dogs to make them stop" method from a trainer who I now realize has never even probably seen or attempted to break up a fight between two very strong, very evenly matched, pissed off pit bulls. These two have snapped and torn collars lunging at each other when they were being restrained with them. The pit bull was a stray we rescued that was obviously abused and used as a bait dog. He has some serious fear issues with humans and other dogs and muzzles are critical in teaching these two how to deal with their emotions non-violently and that there are other ways to solve problems besides being aggressive... like asking me to handle it. Which is my job as mom and pack leader. :)Like other reviews stated, the size charts are WAY off. I measured my dogs' snouts and the chart recommended a size 5 and a 6. Fortunately I went with my gut and ordered sizes 3-6 just because of the wild reviews. The pit-husky ended up in a 4 and the pit bull in a 5. The four stars is due to the difficulty in sizing. Amazon makes returns easy, but spending an extra $40 on two extra muzzles and the 30 minute drive to drop off the boxes at UPS is kind of a hassle.I like the fact that there is a loop at the bottom for the collar to go to. Neither one of my very strong boys was able to get these off, and I gave them 10 (supervised) minutes and watched as they tried very hard to get them off. Eventually they whined with frustration and stopped messing with them and were given treats. Now they are happy to put them on and don't fuss with them. The only way I can imagine a dog getting it off is if the muzzle is too big ( if its too big the dog can easily get their mouth out of the bottom) or handler doesn't put the muzzle on tight enough. You should be able to get one finger under the strap behind the ear and it should not move. No more, no less. Add in the head strap and it's not going anywhere. Others have complained about a plastic snap on the head strap, however neither one of my muzzles has a snap. The head strap is looped through the rubber so they must be making them differently now. Good construction and design. Not uncomfortable for my dogs, and the peace of mind knowing we can finally go to the dog park and out for walks without people bothering us (I have even tried yellow ribbons tied on the leashes. Kids always want to pet puppies, and it's mortifying when your huge, muscular dog greets their smiling face with raised hair on his neck and a low growl) because the muzzles themselves look a little intimidating. Nobody wants to touch a dog in a Hannibal Lector mask and that in itself helps with training. No over stimulation of my dogs and I don't have to explain why little Johnny can't touch without getting distasteful looks.

This muzzle is absolutely the only thing I trust my dog to wear to prevent her from attacking/biting other female dogs.Let me quickly back up. My 40ish lb, 8 year old (Rescue) mini pit bull is absolutely the sweetest thing - to humans. She just isn’t a fan of other female dogs- especially in her own house. I was planning on having knee surgery and needed a friend to come stay and help me out for a few weeks - but the problem - she has a female dog. Knowing my anxiety would be up as I would not be able to move to get in the middle of fighting dogs I started searching for dog muzzles. I found this one along with a variety of the ones that are mesh/cloth and just based on the look of the other ones, knew they wouldn’t work. Also, pit bulls have such a short and wide snout/head, none of the measuring charts seemed to be helpful or accurate. For this muzzle I ordered a size 4 and thankfully it is just about perfect. It is adjustable around the head as well as from the nose to the base of the neck. The plastic clip even has a locking mechanism on it to prevent a dog from accidentally unclipping it. The ONLY thing that would make this muzzle perfect would be an adjustable strap underneath (chin/throat) area. Since this was a fixed strap, I had to use black electrical tape to pinch it together to make it fit better and get the muzzle out of her eyes (you can see this in the pics I’ve included). She can drink with the muzzle on. Eating - while I’m not going to say it’s impossible for her to eat, but with the slow bowl she has, it’s comparable to giving a 3year old chop sticks and telling them they can only use the chop sticks -basically it would take forever for her to eat. It is slightly comical to see her try to pick up crumbs though. We’ve managed to work out an eating schedule where she does not have to wear the muzzle. When I first received the muzzle, to get her used to it, I put a few kibbles in the palm of my hand and held the muzzle in the same - so essentially she would put her face through it to get the kibbles. After doing this several times, I would loop the strap behind her ear and hook it - all the while continuing to give her kibbles. Started out with several minute increments and now she wears it like a champ. Does she love it? No- but she tolerates it for the short periods of time when she and the other female are in close contact. Whenever it’s not safe for her, we quickly put the muzzle on and she’s good to go. There have been two incidents where the females have “gotten into it” but since my girl was wearing this muzzle, it saved not only the other dogs life, but also the human hand that reached in and separated them.I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone with a highly reactive dog - but only for short periods of (supervised) time.I can’t really attest to if this muzzle prevents barking as my girl rarely barks...but she was able to “gremlin growl” as I call it, when she was triggered in the two “events”.

I originally purchased this muzzle for my 75-pound APBT because he and my in-laws' dog do not get along well. However, because my in-laws chose not to muzzle their dog as well, we keep them completely separated when we visit, so the muzzle has not used in a fight-type situation. However, we decided to keep the muzzle to train our dog if the need to use it ever arose. I would be comfortable allowing him to wear the muzzle in a fight situation, and I also feel that he would be protected if the in-laws' dog used the same muzzle.I purchased the size 5 for my dog and it fits him perfectly. For reference, my in-laws' dog is a 55- to 60-pound Amstaff, and when we tried the muzzle on him,he would have needed a size smaller. There's enough room so that my dog is comfortable, but it's snug enough so that I don't have to worry about it coming off. My husband and I did quite a few test runs and discovered that as long as everything is tightened properly and the strap that goes over the head is attached, our dog could not get it off (although he tried his best). We also weren't able to get it off of him by moderate tugging.Training was very easy. For the first handful of times that we put the muzzle on our dog, we spread peanut butter on the nose to coax him into cooperating. After that, he started accepting the muzzle without any resistance. He now seems very comfortable in the muzzle. The muzzle itself is made of a sturdy rubber, but it is soft. It is strong enough to resist being crumpled, but I don't worry about my dog hurting himself like I would with the hard metal type. We haven't seen any telltale signs of rubbing like raw/inflamed skin or missing fur, but I would suggest limiting the amount of time in the muzzle to only what's necessary just to be sure. Our dog has plenty of room to drink, and I can even feed him small treats and peanut butter. That, of course, means that I can put my fingers in the muzzle and he would be able to bite, so this is definitely not the muzzle you want to use if you are trying to protect hands or to go to the vet. It is intended to protect against aggression toward other dogs and humans, and I feel that it would serve that purpose excellently. On a final note, The Company of Animals is extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. I had lost the top strap for our muzzle, so I emailed customer service to ask if that strap could be purchased independently. I got an email back that evening stating that the strap could not be purchased separately but that the company would send me an entire new muzzle at no cost. I forwarded my address and received a confirmation email from the same customer service agent almost immediately. The new muzzle was in my mailbox five days later.I would suggest this for anyone who has a pet with aggression issues as not only an inexpensive option but a very effective and safe option as well.

This was a great way to bridge the introduction period when we brought home our new puppy. We have an elderly dachshund (16 years old) who does not like other dogs until he gets to know them, and we were afraid he would traumatize our puppy with the inevitable nip. We were careful to make the puppy's arrival as stress-free as possible, but this was a great safety net.We started putting this on Napoleon about a week prior to bringing home the pup. Napoleon could eat, drink and pant while wearing this. It didn't seem uncomfortable for him at all--fitting this is pretty easy. I gave him little treats at first so he would take the muzzle--actually come right up and put his snout into the basket, because he knew there would be a reward in that. After the pup was here for several days, and they had gotten used to each other's scent, we were able to put the muzzle away for good. Just to be clear, Neo was not wearing the muzzle constantly during that initial period: we usually had him close enough so that we could intervene if he got irritated, but when they had "play time" we used it as an extra precaution. This is a GREAT tool. I wish I had gotten this years ago--Neo might have had more friends! Once he accepts a strange dog, he's fine, but when he was young I let that socialization window close and he got into some bad habits because of my non-training. In my defense, I had never had a puppy, and he was so barky and obnoxious that I would steer him away from other dogs at the park, instead of creating positive social opportunities for him. (Oh well, live and learn! ) If I had used this muzzle, I might have been brave enough to let him get closer to other pooches and then move on from there. And THIS old dog has learned a new trick: a comfortable basket muzzle MAY, in some circumstances, really help dogs become non-toxic roommies! My friend recommended this, and I am so glad she did.Remember: NO MUZZLE WILL PREVENT ALL BITES OR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR. If you have a couple of dogs who will fight, this is NOT a guarantee that an attack is impossible. We still had to do rewards-based training while the dogs were together so they could associate socializing with praise and tidbits. For the brief time period this was used, though, it helped a lot.Right now they get along well. I won't go so far as to say they're best buds, because the puppy (now twice the size of Neo) wants to PLAYPLAYPLAY, while Neo likes to sleepsleepsleep, and that is annoying to both of them. But we can leave them together without any qualms.I would recommend this.

I bought this for my Husky who is 23 months old.It is really super hard to find out product information from anywhere about sizing and i bought the number 4 1st.It was massive, went over her eyes, far too big, so i got sent out the number 2, far too small, so got sent out number 3 which was the perfect size.Mr Pets, who i bought this from, have the most amazing customer service i have ever come across bar Amazon themselves. They gave me advice on the phone, and i gave them my dogs measurements, but despite best efforts the 1st 2 they sent didnt fit her, this was not their fault, they were given incorrect information. This may help you decide what to get them and save a month of going backwardsand forwards trying to figure out the right size. There are 3 measurements you need to take of your dogs muzzle.Measurement A is the diameter of your dogs muzzle from the bridge of the nose (by the eyes)in a circle around the whole muzzleMeasurement B is the diameter of your dogs muzzle around the end of its snout take it about an inch from the endMeasurement C is the distance from the bridge of the nose/eyes to the end of the snout, when taking this one especially be mindful that you need to leave a good 5-10cm gap so your dogs nose doesnt rub on the end of the muzzle causing sores/bleeding.With all that in mind here are the measurements for all sizes:Size 1 - A = 24.5cm approx B = 20cm approx C = 6.5cm approxSize 2 - A = 30cm appprox B = 23cm approx C = 8cm approxSize 3 - A = 32cm approx B = 26cm approx C = 9cm approxSize 4 - A = 37cm approx B = 29cm approx C = 10cm approxSize 5 - A = 41cm approx B = 33cm approx C = 11cm approxSize 6 - A = 44cm approx B = 36cm approx C = 12 cm approxPlease note that sizes are approximate.Once fitted, the muzzle should allow your dog to fully open their mouths as in a yawn, yet be tight enough not to be slipped over the nose. Please take this into account when checking your dog's measurements against those in the size guide. The reason that they are approximate is that they can vary during production. Please also be aware that a dog should never have a muzzle on for any longer than 30 - 60 minutes, and you should never ever leave a muzzle on a dog if you are out of the house and they are unsupervised.Hope this helps.

This will be my second muzzle from this brand, my current shepherd needed a size six and all I had was a size five. I actually really do love this muzzle I am just disappointed in the quality, the one I bought three or four years ago is much better quality. First of all, the straps that go around the back of the head feel thin and cheap. The older model had much thicker straps and the holes weren’t pre punched. You could pretty much pick a spot and fasten the muzzle which made for a much better fit. Now, you have to choose either a hole too tight or too loose and if you make a hole it may fray because the material is so thin and cheap. My second biggest gripe is that the nose strap which secures the muzzle to the buckle behind the dog’s head is no longer a button fastener. Now the strap is looped around and knotted in the muzzle which can cause the dog’s skin to become irritated or cause damage. I am in full agreement with other reviewers about this issue, however I do not plan on leaving my dog muzzled for long periods of time. I also plan on correcting this matter by sewing the strap directly to the muzzle so there is no longer a large knot on top of my dog’s nose. It is unfortunate that I have to take this measure since the company completely missed the mark on the “new and improved” version of what was not broken in the first place. Just in case you wanted a reference, the seller’s images are actually of the old version with the button snap sitting on top of the dog’s nose. At first I thought maybe this was a counterfeit product so I took a trip to Petco before ordering and their stock is the exact same as the ones sold online. It is unfortunate because the muzzle itself is well made and you really do get a great fit for the price. This muzzle is nonrestrictive and the dog is still able to eat, drink, pant and bark which makes this item worth it. Also, if you buy online versus going to your local pet store you will pay almost half price. My dog’s safety and comfort come first and that is why I chose to order this product despite its flaws. I will be sewing the nose strap to the muzzle permanently to avoid any possibility of discomfort or injury to my dog. Other than those minor issues I actually would recommend this product to any dog owner.

I was skeptical having never used a muzzle on a dog before. I have a foster who is sweet as can be but certain dogs set her off and she did damage to another foster. Not wanting to give up on her I got the muzzle to see if she would behave herself. It worked like a charm. she wasn't thrilled about it at first and tried to paw it off, but over several periods wearing it and getting to hang out with the family she realized it wasn't such a bad deal to have to wear it. she now sits patiently while I put it on and she submissively plays with all the foster dogs with no aggression. after some time with this I will try her with a training collar I bought as well (This basket muzzle works very well.I have a foster who is aggressive with certain other dogs and she can do some damage. Not wanting to give up on her based on some issue from her past, I bought this in the hopes I could reintegrate her with other dogs and hopefully find her forever home. She didn’t like it at first and tried to get it off but it stayed on tight. She now sits patiently while I put it on her because she knows she can play with other dogs and be in the house. She plays, pants and drinks in it easily. She measured for a size 3 but after reading other reviews I got the size 4 to give her nose a little extra room from the rubber cage and it works fine. The biggest thing the muzzle does is take away the worry she will snap and bite, as it causes her to be friendly but passive around other dogs. Once I feel more confident in her actions I will switch her to the Dogtra iQ Plus Remote Trainer I also bought at the same time as this muzzle.UPDATEAfter using the muzzle multiple times it does rub her muzzle raw on top where the strap going up between her eyes attaches to the rubber basket. I have to use neoprene or mole skin on this spot to keep her from constantly having a scab and open wound. I have now switched to the dog training collar and am not using the basket muzzle as she seems to have figured out not to attack my other dogs. I still don't completely trust her hence the training collar, but the basket taught her she can be submissive and not worry about other dogs attacking her.

After 2years of trying to "fix" our bully breed mix, we finally accepted we needed to manage his overstimulated redirection because there was no solving it. He is a great dog with the pack 95% of the time but certain heightened situations would set him off into an aggressive state and our poor malinois was always the target. We spent thousands at the vets fixing them up after altercations and our lives were constant stress always needing to be on alert. You cannot control the envoirment 100% of the time and a simple doorbell or the smoke detector could set them into a fight. When we accepted despite all the training and supervision we needed a change, I decided to muzzle train him.A well fit muzzle is like someone wearing glasses, you know its there but it's not uncomfortable. He is now muzzled anytime he is free with the pack and it has literally changed our lives. I did not realize the amount of stress we lived under always waiting for the next fight. Most of all, I did not realize how it had effected the pack overall until I saw the change of behavior with my other dogs and how much happier they became after a few weeks of introducing the muzzle as they began to play again. My dog does not mind his muzzle and rather be muzzled with the pack then behind the baby gate no muzzle where he cries and begs to come join us. Baskerville muzzles have allowed us to be a family again and restored the peace. All 7 of our dogs now have these muzzles in case of emergency, vet vists etc. It is a good tool to have and a great thing to train all dogs because you never know when they may need to be muzzled in a stressful situation and it is better to have them accustomed to it then add more stress. He has attempted to grab another dog while muzzled a few different times. He has not successfully bitten through the muzzle and it ends up just being a muzzle punch and gives us enough time to intervene. However, I would not recommend this muzzle for truly dog aggressive dogs as they are malleable and can be pushed against and a determined dog could bite through them. You will want a Jaffco or wire basket muzzle for true bite risks.

I don't normally write positive reviews for items but really felt I should for this one. I can't recommend this product enough. We have two dogs who have aggression tendencies towards each other. They can be fine for a week, a month, three months, or however long until something triggers a fight. These fights started minimal and only got worse and worse. One of which sent myself to the ER for an accidental puncture wound while trying to split them up. They've both received puncture wounds, drawn blood & seem to be going for the kill when they fight. I lived in constant worry of them fighting. They couldn't share a yard, they couldn't be left alone, they each had to be separated by baby gates and only let out under complete supervision.Even play had to be limited and monitored or else a fight would usually break out after a certain amount of time due to an accidental too hard of a nip, too rough of a paw, etc. When we moved this summer we decided we had to figure out something different. The larger dog had begun hopping the gates and even though we have kids the baby gates blocking off sections of the house was just too much. I didn't want all these baby gates and constant worry in our new home. And honestly, I wanted both dogs to have more freedom, more interaction. We purchased a Baskerville muzzle for each of them. I was surprised how quickly they both grew used to them. We put the muzzles on both of them (under supervision) and they now have free roam of the house. They play together now (they can even grab certain toys for tug o' war), they cuddle, they chase each other wildly through the back yard. Its been amazing and worry free! Both dogs can still drink water, they have even figured out how to eat their food if the muzzle is on. We do remove it for meal time but if there is extra sitting in the bowl during the day they'll snack on it. I can't recommend this product enough. If you have a dogs with aggression issues towards each other, or other dogs or whatever it may be then definitely give this product a try.

I searched for months for a strong durable muzzle for a Houdini dog. I decided on the Baskerville muzzles because of the head and collar straps. The reviews helped allot as well. I have 2 Pits, 1 is 45 lbs and the other is 90 lbs. I also have a 20lb 20 year old shitzu. I got a size 2 for my 45 lb. going by the measurements I thought that's what she needed. I got a size 4 for my 90 lb. the 4 fits my 45 lb perfect, and is a bit snug on my 90 lb. so I returned the size 2 and got a size 5. It will be here in 2 days, so I hope it fits. My 45 lb has always been dog aggressive. She's ok with my shitzu, she's actually scared of him because he barks at her when she goes near him. Since she has been wearing this muzzle,I don't have to worry about her getting tired of him and snapping at him. She is much calmer, she listens better, she goes over and sniffs my shitzu from head to tail and he lets her now! I think he even feels safer, and feels he does not have to scare her away now. The first 2 days when we put the muzzle on her, she looked so sad, and tried very hard to get it off. She did not succeed!! Now she isn't bothered by it at all. She's 9 years old, and before I adopted her, she was abused pretty badly. She let's me do anything to her, but gives everyone else dirty looks. Usually she has to eat in a room by herself, or outside when it's warm. With this muzzle on, she has no problem eating, and she is not bothered by anyone being near her when she eats. She has changed so much. I couldn't be happier with this muzzle. It's strong, they can't get them off, they can eat and drink while wearing them, it changes their attitude. It's amazing! We took her for a ride the other day, usually when she sees another dog she flips out. A dog walked past my truck, and she didn't even growl, her ears perked up, but that's all. I wish I could have found this muzzle years ago, both of our lives would have been allot easier, and more fun!! If you need the perfect muzzle, get this one. Sizing is off, but returns are easy and hassle free.

This is my favorite muzzle . It is soft but strong and secure enough for my safety. The dog can easily breathe, drink, take treats during training, and pant to stay cool. I've habituated all of our dogs to wearing it because there are times during certain procures, such as nail trimming, when a dog could be suddenly hurt. Under those circumstances most dogs will reflexively snap. Wearing this muzzle will prevent injury to me and ultimately save my dog from a bite record or worse. I have friends with a handler aggressive Malinois who use this muzzle whenever their dog is in training or in a social setting with other dogs and people. It has saved them a number of painful bites and allows them to take their dog into public places for socialization.Update: I continue to love this muzzle. So much so that I purchased more in different sizes in order to have appropriate ones handy in the house and in the van. Handlers we train with have seen us using this device and purchased it for their dogs as well. And they are also pleased. I recently purchased a second size 4 and noticed that the newer version has places cut in the strap ready to facilitate buckling. The only problem I have had in the past with these muzzles is that they did not have "holes" in the strap for quick easy use. It was always a struggle to force the prong through the fabric to secure the buckle. I finally fitted it to one of our dogs and left it permanently buckled so that it could be slipped on and off without taking minutes to rebuckle. (In an emergency, those minutes would not be available.) It worked, but I was never quite satisfied. The new version of this muzzle has holes precut into the fabric and solves this issue. It allows me to have the muzzle on my dog very securely and to use it for another dog that might need a different adjustment on the strap for fit. This is a small thing for the manufacturer, but it is one that makes a huge difference to the user--at least this user. I highly recommend this muzzle. For me now it has no downsides.

As a Rescue we utilize this Baskerville Muzzle as a reliable tool. We find the baskerville Muzzle to be superior to the other types of muzzles. The design and shape of the muzzle enables the dog to still be able to utilize his nose, they can drink and still take some treats through it. Its unlikely they can bite because of the design. The design has two safety features to help keep the muzzle in place on the dog. One loop underneath the chin allows the dogs collar to slip through (keeping the muzzle from being pawed or pulled up from below). The second being a strap that goes from the top side of the base of the snout, up between the eyes and connects to the strap that buckles on top of the head behind the dogs ears. The strap has pre made reinforced holes the length of the strap which helps to ensure a snug but comfortabke fit. The basket portion of the muzzle is made of a rubber type plastic. Its soft but not extremely flexible. It will not bend when pushed against anything. I cant stress how much more comfortable these muzzles are for rhe dogs when its necessary for rhem to wear one for their safety and others. They are useful if you have a fog who is a voracious chewer ( occasionally chewing inappropriste things in the house). Sometimes its easier to muzzle in one of these muzzles where the dog can still drink and eat but cannot destroy inappropriate things as opposed to being crated for long hours while your away. As with anything you should always have someone to supervise your dog. We much prefer these to yje hard rigid plastic, metal, and steel and leather muzzles. We believe you will agree. NOTE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MEASURE and not just go by the suggested dog breeds. As a large breed dog rescue, most of our German Shepherds wear a size 4 or 5. We have yet to have a dog to fit in the size 6 (not even our great danes). We wish you the best and hope that you find these muzzlrs to be as practical and useful as we do. Your dog will thank you for making this choice.
