We have a medium-sized Labradoodle dog and got a Daihatsu Terios 4x4. We had been using an upturned large plastic crate with carpet fixed to the bottom as a 'step' but she has recently had an operation (back knee cruciate ligament TPLO op. which involves cutting the bone and pinning it with a plate and screws) so we had to try a ramp instead. This ramp is good, and I would recommend it, subject to the following two things to be aware of:1. like many plastic items these days, when it first arrives the cut edges of the plastic at the back of the ramp are sharp. I went over all the edges with a file to smooth them off to avoid finger cuts when in use.2. Ideally you need two people. It's quite hard for one person to do all the necessary jobs: get the car doors open, get the ramp out, open and in position, whilst also holding the dog back from leaping in or charging up the ramp. Once inside you have to take away the ramp, get the door shut and put the ramp back behind the driver's seat.Getting the dog out again is similar, but this time you have to hang on to the dog, while you fold up the ramp and get it back inside the car. One person can do it, but must be strong enough to lift the ramp mostly with one arm, and hold the dog with the other arm.(A behavioural point: our dog was used to always leaping up into the car, even when using the upturned crate, so training her not to leap up the ramp has been hard. Coming down she will happily walk slowly, but getting in she will always try to leap -especially if people are getting in the car and she thinks she might get left behind! :) )

I was considering buying ramp for my German Shepherd/Malamute cross for quite some time. He's getting on a bit, has arthritis and artificial knees in his back legs (after rupturing his cruciate ligaments) so jumping and climbing are bit beyond him. Shortly after the wife upgraded her car to a Freelander, my dog get his leg caught in the door hinge while trying to clamber out - very nearly seriously injuring himself so I didn't dare wait any longer. The ramp is solidly built, comfortably taking the 45kg weight of my dog and is not as steep as I feared (although Freelanders aren't the tallest of off roaders). We're still in the process of training both our dogs to use it (so it can be used again when the younger one needs it)which is a slow process as anyone with a Malamute will tell you, they can be very stubborn when they're unsure of things. The other dog, a mongrel of undetermined heritage, is getting to grips with it though.Overall, I've found it to be very study, yet lightweight, able to take the weight of my dog, the velcro grips are stuck on firmly enough. A couple of crossbars that could be used to push against might have been a nice touch but not a dealbreaker. Very happy I chose this one and would recommend it.One word of advice though, several reviewers have stated it is really long enough for them. If in doubt, measure first so you can get an idea of how steep it would be.

My ageing Labrador has a bit of arthritis in her front legs and my partner is not able to lift her in and out of the car for walks when I'm not around. Pooch can be of a somewhat nervous disposition since her arthritis has made her very unsure of walking on hard floors so I was a bit skeptical as to whether a ramp would work. After a bit of nervousness and a bit of practice she zips up and down the ramp no problems whatsoever, thanks to the rough coating on the plastic. Now, if I'm away for the weekend I can rest assured knowing that my partner can get her in and out of the car no problem. There are one or two unavoidable issues. Firstly I would not put the ramp in the back of the car with the pooch.I have an estate but even then if it were to fall on her, or she was to fall on it, it would not be pretty. With a ramp as substantial as this I can't see how you're not going to run into this problem. Similarly you've got to think of the length of your car, plus ramp, plus dismounting space. I can just manage to get my car on the drive with enough room to get pooch in and out with the ramp. In fairness this is something you are going to have to work around if your dog has stiff legs and you can't lift them in and out of your car.Overall I'm extremely pleased.

This ramp is a real lifesaver for my ageing spaniel. He is a fairly big dog (27kg), so he's too big for me to lift in and out of the car (also, I did already mention that he's a spaniel, so he always ends up soaking wet and covered in mud!) I have quite a high 4x4, which he finds difficult to jump into, and I always worry about his shoulder joints when he jumps out.Due to the height of the back of my car, the ramp is quite steep, however I have an old tatty piece of VetBed which I have attached to the surface of the ramp with high bond velcro, and this helps him to get a good grip on the steep incline. This probably would not be required on a lower car, as there is a non slip, sandpapery surface on the ramp. The top end of the ramp has a nice flat ledge to lay onto the boot of the car, and I've never had any problems with the ramp moving while in use.I have a crate in the back of my car for the dog and this ramp folds in half and fits ever so neatly down the side of the crate, leaving room on top for shopping or luggage if necessary.I had toyed with the idea of getting a ramp for a few months as I wasn't sure how my dog would take to it, but at this price I thought it was worth a go, however he took to it immediately and we've not looked back since :)

Having a Vauxhall Estate car my 11yr Golden Retriever was having problems jumping into the car, so with the help of myself he would put his front paws up and I would give him a helping hand into the car. This went on for weeks, until August this year when I pulled a muscle in my neck helping him into the car - which ended in pain for two weeks and a trapped nerve in my arm. So we looked for the most suitable and light weight car dog ramp. Found the Trixie on line. It arrived within 3 days. First to get my dog used to it, we got him use to walking along it in the house and making it a game. Then put it between the patio door (width of ramp) into the garden so he had to walk down it to go out side. This took no time at all. With the younger Goldie joining it, became a game. Next day was to use it to get into the car. It took just one tipbit to get my dog to walk up and down it. We use it every day and he took to it like a duck to water - even the younger Goldie walks up it - It's a brillient device - takes up hardly any space only 4.5 kilos - my dogs get into the car with ease, and I don't have to strain lifting him. But now Nov and I still have the trapped nerve in my arm. Wish I had invested in this product long ago.

The product is fine and I really should have given it 5 stars. The only glitch, for me, is that it really isn't long enough. I have a Jeep GC Overland. It has a high rear fender/bumper. Parked on level ground/tarmac it's just about okay, although the angle is a little acute for one of my dogs. She has a sensitive hip and is a big dog. Maremmas are large. The point of buying this was to give her an easy entry to the 'dog' area in the Jeep, and to relieve me of having to strain my back lifting her (98lbs) into and out of the Jeep every single day. Unfortunately, we don't live on an estate or in a town. We are in very rural area on a farm and the ground isn't tarmac, its chalk and clay and uneven. To use the ramp I have to make sure that I park with the rear wheels lower than the front (not a big problem). That way the shortness of the ramp isn't an issue as the rake is lessened by the angle of the Jeep and the lessening of the distance to the ground (all very technical stuff). So, in a nutshell, make the ramp longer for folks with large 4X4s with high fenders. Otherwise, the ramp is light to handle, strong to use, easy to store and the non-slip surface is a great attribute.

bought this for our Bernese mountain dog at 4 months old as we were worried about hips/elbows jumping out of boot. I didn't review back in Nov as to be honest it's taken a while for my dog to trust the ramp. He's now 6.5 months and 30+kg so he has no option but to use it but at the beginning he hated it. It didn't help that the first time it wobbled on his first try. I think I'd put it the wrong way around. Seems a bit silly but it wasn't obvious to me which end was for the ground and which for the car (suggestion - they should have a sticker to show). Anyway it's quite sturdy and non slip. Zeus can now walk down very slowly and he doesn't loose grip. We used a lot of treats to incentive use.I'd suggest if you have a breed who will eventually become heavy use this from a really early age. My two negatives are 1. Obvious identification of which end is which and 2. It's bulkier than you think (quite deep when folded). We have a Volvo XC60 and I'd hoped that folded up it would go on its side to make extra room but it doesn't so has to lie flat which means the dog looses a lot of room! All in all a good product!

Really pleased with this product, bought to help my 8 yo GSD girl get up and down from the 70cm+ height boot of my Freelander. The ramp is made from hard, (I hope) durable plastic with a steel bolt through the hinge so I can't imagine will snap under the weight of my doggie (35kg). The ramp simply folds in two and is compact and light enough to shove in and out of the backseat/boot. When opened out the chunky plastic ridges act as support for the hinge so there is minimal flexing as she climbs up and down. She was so excited to see it come out of its postal box she couldn't wait to try it out. I set it up for her to climb onto the sofa first, and there was little hesitation when I asked her to use it getting into the boot of the car.I would give 6 stars if the product had a more anti-slip coating. There are 1mm deep ridges imprinted in the surface which are still a bit slippery. I got round this by ordering a harness

I don't have a dog nor am I going to get one! I bought this product to solve the problem of getting my bike into the back of the car. The bike's a sturdy Giant, ideal for a 73 year old to pedal around the city, but when I want a longer ride I need to go several kilometres to access the 'greenways'; the old railway lines have been removed and the resulting corridors are safe as they are restricted to walkers and cyclists. I can't hoist the bike in or out of my car as it's too heavy but I can run it up the ramp! Excellent solution, the ramp is sturdy but light and folds to fit neatly behind the driver's seat. I thought if it would take a dog up to 95 kilos, my bike would not pose a problem and I was right,I'm overjoyed to be able to manage if there's nobody around to lend me a hand. I couldn't find one a dog-ramp where I live, but it didn't cost much to be sent to Spain. Thank you Amazon.

I was a bit unsure about ordering this as it is far cheaper than some ramps but it has proved to be quite a surprise. It is light to carry and easy to fold out, but sturdy enough for our labrador (approx. 28 kilos). It stays in place well and doesn't really rock when the dog is climbing in. One downside is the black material that is attached to the plastic - I assume it is there to provide grip but it still seemed very slippy and our dog did not like it. I resolved the problem by gluing on 2 small strips of cheap astroturf that we had left in the shed and, as the dog is used to it in the garden, he seemed much more comfortable climbing in and out of the car boot. Overall,I would recommend as a good low-priced solution but beware the black material as it is like sandpaper and larger dogs would probably struggle without some other type of material placed over the top.

I have an elderly 30kg Labrador and needed a stable, portable ramp for the car. This product is a great combination of lightweight and robust, it's solid, not flimsy at all and folds to a very manageable size. It's worth taking some time to train the dog to use it on the flat first because it obviously feels a bit strange but mine has taken to it very well. If I have any criticisms, for my particular breed (and her stiff old lady legs at the corners of her square body!) the walkway is only just wide enough for her to comfortably place her paws on it and the anti-slip coating on the walkway is - bizarrely - a bit slippery. Both of these issues can be easily sorted - my dog will learn how to place her feet in time and I'm going to glue on some old carpet as buyers have mentioned in other reviews. This is a good ramp and worth its money.

I ordered this ramp for my nine year old Labrador who is starting to suffer a bit from arthritis in his front leg. The ramp arrived in time and was well packaged and it is very sturdy. It took a few days for him to get used to it and we started doing it little by little. We left it on the floor for him to walk over it to get used to the feel of it. It has a non slip surface and is quite rough and it took a wee while for him to get used to this. He is now quite happy to use it and it has made a big difference to him as he no longer has to jump in and out of the car. It is very sturdy and takes his weight no problem. It is quite light and very easy to use. It folds in half and is easy enough to store in the car.I would recommend this product especially for older dogs who may have a bit of trouble getting in and out of the car.

My old border collie cross was having problems getting into the Renault Laguna Estate with his legs and hips - (getting on for nearly 13 but so active chasing a ball - just problems getting in and out of the Estate) Read the reviews and decided to buy this product. He loves it - it fits in the back seat of the Estate (made sure it is secure) and he walks up and down it - full of confidence. He had an experience of using my friend's ramp for her vehicle so was not a novice to ramps. The surface is great for his paws too. I can use it in the back of the Estate but the incline is more increased but as it works great to get into the back of the Estate (where he is used to being in) I am so far keeping it there. It folds in two so fits lovely behind the driver's seat. So pleased with this product and would highly recommend it.

this pet ramp is excellent - and trust me i'm a perfectionist and studied all the different types of ramps available. its sturdy and long enough for a car height and also a caravan . (might not be quite long enough for a tall 4x4, but certainly great for cars and caravans). it has an edge to give the dog an bit of protection from slipping off the sides and once placed firmly it doesnt bow or bend or move - it feels strong and secure. my very nervous old dog got the hang of it within a couple of trys and we do still assist him up , but he is totally fine with it now and its far better than trying to lift him up because i think that hurts him a little when we do that.anyway this is a great ramp - ace for caravans and cars. i think you would be very hard pushed to find a better one. i really do

Lovely item, we bought it for our large breed puppy to protect her joints & bones by avoiding her having to jump in & out of the car boot. It doesn't hook onto the boot (a BMW 3-series), but feels very stable & it took her a few minutes to try it the first time, but a bit of bribery with treats & lots of praise & now she trundles up & down without a problem. It's not too steep & the sides really help it to feel safer & less like she's going to fall off. The surface is rough enough for her feet to grip well (it feels like the surface of a skateboard). It's a little larger than expected, but folds in half easily with a little clip to keep the halves together & it fits behind the back seats when the dog crate is in the boot. All in all, I'm very happy with this & would highly recommend it.
