(Full Review)When I 1st had my cat I chose this particular cat flap unit to be fitted in the new external kitchen door because of the 4-way locking ability was perfect for all my needs. It lasted 10years and would still of been ok if not for the shadow boxing the cat chose to do on it fighting the bigger cats from the relative safety of indoors. So over time the flap and whole unit took a battering. I'm happy to say she's grown out of that phase now.So when choosing a replacement unit it was a simple choice and much easier to pick the exact same one because size wise the fitting would be simple.I found Amazon to be the cheapest by far than anywhere else I looked with most units selling upwardsof £50!!The Cat Mate crew have made a great adjustment to this latest model by making it a Soft Closing flap. Essentially by reducing the weight of the magnet and flap itself. This is a big improvement as the previous model used to bang shut every time it was used. Now I barely hear it at all.A big plus point! The negative being that on occasion the flap doesn't quite close because of the reduced strength of the magnet, but I haven't experienced any unwanted visitors after 3months so I don't see it as a problem.Update:Buy magnets via link below. Wrap Only 3 in cling film to protect from weather. Add a 4th to use the sticky label. Place outside of flap above where existing magnet is. This will prevent flap staying ajar. Problem solved and flap still closes quietly. ??https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004W7UN4U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_X94RBJ349GN58Z6NQBD8If you can't use link, type this into search bar on Amazon.Neodymium 20×6×1.5mm (south)The unit works by installing a 9v battery (not supplied) which lasts absolutely ages as only a small current is needed. Your cat wears a magnet which you fit on the collar that isn't too intrusive to them. Make sure the 'paw' is facing outwards. The 4-way locking comprises:• Fully Lock• Fully Unlock• Lock on the Inside• Lock on the OutsideSo for instance you can set it to lock from inside meaning your cat can enter (maybe last thing at night) then not get back out again. Or alternatively if you want your cat to stay out you can set it to prevent the cat coming back in until you are ready.Only the cats with a magnet can enter through the flap, even if set to unlock. This product is ideal if you either have one cat or you are happy for all your cats to follow the same regime. If you have more than one cat and maybe you need to keep a kitten indoors then Cat Mate make a Micro Chip unit where by you can individually program each chip (again worn on the collar) to allow entry/exit.I only have one cat at present so this suits all my needs.Template and screw fixtures for different depth fittings and 2 collar magnets are all supplied.Extra magnets can be bought seperately if you require more than two.Thankyou for reading my Full Review and if you've found it Helpful then please let me know.

I installed one of these when I got my cats, some 15 years ago. With minimal maintenance, it's proved very reliable. I've had a few minor issues, which I list below.First, the collar-mounted magnets have an arrow on the top, which needs to face forwards. Failure to observe this left us with a flap which appeared to work sporadically after a couple of collar changes. Clearly an incorrectly oriented magnet can still operate the flap if the cat happens to get into just the right position, making it look like an intermittent problem. Easy problem to resolve, once identified. One of my cats got a bit panicky when (intentionally) locked in. Perhaps he suspected the impending visit to the vet :-) Anyway, the outcome was that he tried to claw the flap open. He failed, but managed to tear half of the draught excluder off on such a way that I couldn't refit it.The flap release mechanism can get jammed up with muck, but it's easy to clean out with the battery cover removed. The only other problem is the occasional loss of a collar, which obviously leaves the cat stranded. This only ever happened to our more adventurous cat, and his noisy attempts to get back through the flap soon alerted us to the problem.Whee never had any unwanted visitors through the flap and the 4-way lock has never failed to work, although I suspect a much stronger or heavier cat might manage to push the flap past the lock features.Having just moved house, I won't hesitate buy this brand again, though I may opt for the ID chip version this time.

After 2 years of exasperating battles with the neighbourhood's smelly toms coming in through the flap and eating my cat's food, I eventually bought this electromagnetic flap. I had one years ago for a different cat, but at that time the collar magnet was quite large and heavy so I was reluctant to buy another. Sheer desperation made me try this solution as a last resort.I was pleasantly surprised to see that the magnet is now much smaller and hangs from the collar. Although my cat had not used an electromagnetic flap before, she learned to use it very quickly. It's been in place now for about 3 months, and apart from one occasion in the first few days, when a strong wind held the flap ajar for a few seconds after my cat had come in and a smelly tom followed her in, it's been excellent. I don't think that "life changing" is too strong a term - before this, sleep was often disturbed by nocturnal visitors (or the anticipation of them), I dreaded getting up and going into the kitchen to be hit by that dreadful stench, and my cat was becoming increasingly stressed. The only minor niggle is that the instructions don't tell you to check the collar magnet now and again and wash it if necessary. After a couple of months I found mine was caked in dried catfood where it had been suspended over plates while eating.

I bought this cat-flap in order to keep out the neighbourhood hooligans who torment my cat, eat her food and make themselves comfortable in my house!! After having to enlarge the hole in the door from the previous flap I found it easy to fit and the quality much superior than my previous Staywell, better fitting and draft-proofed. My cat took to wearing a collar and magnet ok and has had no problem using the flap. For a couple of months all was well until 2am one morning when I was awoken by a cat fight in my bedroom - yes, the little hooligan had got in. On investigation I found that the plastic flap had broken where the magnetic stop hit it (as in a previous review). On the plus side Mr Pets sent a replacement within days and with help it was fitted it in about 10 mins.I have now returned the "faulty" flap only to find that the same thing has happened again. Before I fitted the replacement I checked the design of the flap and found that the weakest point appeared to be where the flap hit the magnetic catch. I'm sure that the manufacturers could reinforce that area at little extra cost to ensure this could not be broken. All in all a good product - but could be a great one!

We've had this installed for a few months now and are pleased with it. It does everything that it promises. It only uses magnets to open, but as we live in the middle of nowhere, there wasn't likely to be other cats around using magnet opening cat flaps so that wasn't going to be (and hasn't been) an issue. It took the more timid cat a while to get used to, as there is a distinct "click" as the cat approaches, causing her to back off then try again, "click" again.... you get the picture. When she got hungry enough, she started using it, the other 2 cats were fine. I bought spare magnets, but haven't needed them because we bought good quality collars. One star is missing only because it would have been nice to have some sort of battery low LED on the door, as the other day the battery died and I didn't notice for some time that the cats were all outside in the rain because they couldn't get in. The only other drawback with the cats having magnets hanging around their necks, is that they stick to the metal water bowl every time they drink and the cats constantly bring home rusty nails and other metal bits hanging around their neck.

Purchased this cat flap because I have been feeding a stray with no home and he has now adopted me, AND lets himself in by head butting the LOCKED manual cat flap, so decided on this magnetic one after reading reviews of another make. This is much sturdier than the than the old one, (a leading brand, and although my cat had never worn a collar before she has has quickly become used to it, and after encouraging her, she now lets herself in regularly, BUT old Ginger Tom CANNOT get in anymore. Only one criticism, the screws provided seem to be for a door up to 24mm thick, my double glazed plastic door panel is 30mm thick, so had to search out some longer screws to enable fitting.Overall very pleased with this product, but wished the spare magnets were a bit less expensive, will probably be getting some Staywell Magnets (much cheaper), after all a magnet is just a magnet, I also bought the Staywell collar for magnetic flaps, NO METAL involved, (the magnet tends to stick to the metal 'D' ring that is fitted to most collars). Very pleased with the products, would recommend. quick delivery also.

This was a replacement for the identical 'cat flap' that had become damaged following an attempted break-in by other local cats! As the original had been in use for c. 8 years it would have been the ideal time to change the flap had I not been entirely happy with this product. It is a simple to use cat-flap (for the cats!). They just need the magnetic tag to activate the flap and they are straight in - without other cats being able to follow. They are therefore happy knowing that other strays cannot get into their home. Other 'fun tags' (in interesting shapes) do work too - as long as they are strongly magnetic.I did check for other options before buying this flap - in case there was anything on the market that I may prefer - but it is a mark of my satisfaction with this item that I couldn't find a flap that I preferred and now that it is installed and in use I am (again) completely happy .... and so are the cats! Many thanks

I love this cat flap. I was nervous before buying it in case the cat couldn't work it, she kept losing her tag or whether other cats could get in anyway but I needn't have worried. I am SO please I got this now. It has different settings so you can lock it at night or lock it one way. The cat has no problem using it and it has kept out some other huge tom cats in the garden who I was worried would spray if they got in the house. One of the bigger ones was headbutting it but luckily it was strong enough to keep him out and stop him terrorising my poor moggy! The magnets are not cumbersome and fit on her collar nicely and she hasn't got anything stuck to it yet (read horror stories of cats gettingforks and other large metal implements stuck to them!).I also like the fact that when it was installed into our double glazed back door that it looks really neat and you hardly notice it is there.A thumbs up from me!

Quick delivery. I bought this as a replacement for my existing old catflap which had lost the inside magnet that brings the flap back to the lock position. I did consider the e chip version but strangely Pet Mate make all their flaps with different hole cut out sizes and so are missing out on an upgrade opportunity and are frustrating customers. Fitting was compatible with the old electromagnetic flap so only had to replace the outside main component. The screws fitted exactly the old holes and required little pressure to tighten. Despite this one head sheared before any final tightening had been applied. One star removed because the manufacturer should be a little more considerate in making a line of catflap that are backward and forward compatible. Also I not the only one to experience weak screws as some plastic panels can be very tough.

I have used this model of cat flap for 23yrs before on my old wooden door, so we did not hesitate on buying a new one when we moved home and bought new tough steel reinforced doors we had to get the manufacturer to fit the cat flap while making our new door. We have always had two cats, and even our kitten who rushes through the cat flap really fast manages to get her magnet to open the door every time. This cat flap is also drought proof. It gives you peace of mind that your cat can go out and in as it pleases and best of all you don't need a litter tray any more. We have never had any neighboring cat come in our house with this cat flap, even when we stayed in our flat the next doors wee highland terrier used to try and get his head in the cat flap and the lock was still strong enough to keep him out. I would highly recommend this model.

My cat, or a ravening monster following her, managed to smash the existing cat-flap door in two, leaving me with the problem of finding and fitting a new one. The task seemed daunting, given the present mania for change (usually to make it prettier rather than to improve its performance).and given that the old one was at least 16 years old. I couldn't find the make of the old one, so I looked on Amazon for something which seemed about the same size to avoid, as far as possible, altering the hole. I decided that the on which seemed nearest was the catmate and sent for it. Delivery was as prompt as it usually is from Amazon and, surprise, surprise, the door was identical, was fitted in about quarter of an hour and is as efficient as its predecessor had been for so long. Well done Catmate! It's good, don't be persuaded to play with it.

This Pet Mate design has been around for many years (our previous Pet Mate survived 20+ years) and now with a new cat felt it appropriate to replace with a new pet flap.. Glad I didn't have the hassle of having to change size of hole in our big Vctorian kitchen door because the dimensions and style of the original were still available. Simply unscrewed our old one and popped in the new one - job took no more than 6 minutes. Most importantly this brand still available in a brown option which matches our wooden door better than most brands who only manufacture white. Magnets are smaller and lighter than before Would always recommend this brand - quality/durable/stylish/easy to fit/easy tooperate..

Really good product. Stopped the strays getting in and urinating in the front room or fighting with our cat under the bed during the night. Because of all these invasions of territory our little kitty was getting worked up and getting abit nervous but this cat flap solved the problems. Cat had no problem getting in and out of it after a few practices. Really took a lot of the stress out of having an outdoor cat and she loved her freedom. You can change settings so your cat can only get though it in one direction, both, or lock it. You can use other magnets with it, we used petsafe magnetic collar keys because the official ones are expensive to replace. Its just a shame the cat ran away!

I found this catflap to work quite effectively and really only have two comments.... Sometimes if the cat comes in slowly the cat flap does not lock and some of the local cats and one cheeky squirrel tail gate. I would say that this happens about 15% of the time. Secondly the cat magnets are quite large and it would be great if these could be made smaller as I can not say how many my cat has lost over the past year. He is quite active and the magnet catches on the fence and off pops the safety collar. I did have to purchase plastic name tags as one other person mentioned the magnet is quite strong and the name tag clung to the magnet which was a bit uncomfortable for my little guy...

I would've given this cat flap 5 stars except for the fact the flap initially wasn't closing. I had to sand the top of the perspex flap down a mm or so, but it works fine now, and there have been no unwelcome cats coming in and spraying in my kitchen and lounge. It has probably saved the lives of said cats as I would've throttled them if I'd got my hands on them. However I did discover that rubbing half a lemon onto sprayed area did get rid of the smell. The magnetic key tabs are small and inconspicuous, and provide moments of hilarity eg when a steel ruler got stuck on my cat's collar. All round a far superior product to the Staywell infra red, highly recommended.
