----------CONTEXT----------I bought this for my male cat aged 4.5 yrs. He's very intelligent and I've had success in teaching him tricks, as well as building up a set of words that effectively communicate intent (dinner, treats, play time, etc), Living in the city and often seeing missing cat posters in the neighbourhood, I decided I wouldn't let my gorgeous boy wander the neighbourhood alone.I am fortunate in that I have a small back garden. Although we'd built a great routine of going out into the garden every day after I got home from work, becoming a fully grown adult male cat, he was starting to test boundaries and was jumping over the fence despite normally being very obedient.I love my cat very much and I loathed the idea of keeping him stuck up in the house, but I also wanted him to be safe going outside without losing him, so I decided I would invest in a cat harness.----------TRAINING----------I trained my cat so that he knew when I brought out a collar it was notification we were going outside (it's the sight and sound of the collar and bell, plus the trigger word 'collar'). So in my case it was switching the association from his collar to the harness. When I showed him the harness, at first he was very interested but resistant to wearing it - not scratchy mind, but he didn't like it (and rightly so, to be fair...!). It took a few gentle attempts to put it on him and figure out how loose or tight was too loose or too tight. Consistency with the time of day, the trigger word and showing him the harness helped him to connect the dots, no matter how begrudgingly.Be aware, cats will try and 'crocodile turn' to get the thing off. If you have the leash on, this may cause problems as you and your cat can become tangled up. Although it's important the harness is not too tight, try not to make it too loose around the belly as their back paws could get stuck when they try to scratch it off. Also make sure the front straps are not pressing up against your cat's throat - you don't want them to injure themselves. Check this frequently until you know what is right for your cat - if they can't reach down comfortably to chew on grass, it is definitely too tight.By day 4, although he was pouting and sitting in the garden refusing to move, he was less resistant to having it put on as he knew it meant he'd go outside.By day 7 he and I had found what was the right firmness of his harness, and he was walking around the garden and getting used to the prospect of having a jacket on while he wandered.By day 14, we took our first 'walk' out of the garden, a reward for being so good, and he was very excited/nervous. The good news is the harness was extremely secure, even when he made a dash to go inside because he spotted some strangers, and he pulled the stretchy cord as far as it would go, the velcro straps held secure and he simply sat down and waited for the leash to give him some slack.----------PRODUCT EFFECTIVENESS----------I chose this harness because it was a velcro strap and not just clips. This was very important as when my cat was a kitten, I tried a strap and clasp based harness. Even at 9 months old, he was strong and broke the thing when he bolted at the sight of a stranger! The velcro is secure and less likely to hurt him.The velcro straps at the front can be connected with generous give, because the additional strap and clasp at the front can be adjusted for additional security. This helps a lot.The leash clasp is firm and secure, and there's no indication of wear even after a month of use. Good stuff! The leash itself is not very long, about a metre or so, but it is elastic so does stretch significantly. Be aware of this, as when your cat makes a dash, they can get a good few feet away from you before it restrains them. This is good though, as it means the restraint is gradual and though it WILL stop your cat eventually, it won't be such a dramatic tug.----------ADJUSTMENTS?----------I am thinking about getting a proper dog leash that gets longer and has a mechanism to stop pull, or retract the leash. This is because I like to give my cat more space to explore by himself than be constantly right by his side. But get used to being with your cat on the original leash at first so you can easily predict his/her reactions to being out and about.----------RECOMMEND?----------Yes. This worked for me and my cat, and the material of the harness is durable. Be careful when picking the size - boy cats WILL need the larger size.As with all products for your pets, please don't leave them laying around unsupervised. The strap could be a hazard. And if you're going to take your cat outside, have fun with them. :) I take treats out and give lots of love and affection to my cat when we're exploring so he feels reassured and happy. :) Tail up == he's enjoying it! :DI gave this product 4 stars because of the leash - I'll be replacing it, but imagine if they provided the type of leash I am looking for, the item would be substantially more expensive.-- END --

The harness is good value for money and provides more comfort than the traditional single strap type. It has velcro fittings so you can just drape the harness over the cat and then do it up around their chest and tummy. There's also a collar type strap that goes around the chest/throat area (you can just see it in the photo). The catch on this is quite firm and can be quite difficult to undo. I'm not quite sure why it's there as the velcro is very sticky. Perhaps it's a backup just in case the cat does try and wiggle out?The lead wasn't quite what I was expecting, but is actually just fine (I was expecting a retractable style). This lead is a long piece of elastic with a loop for the handle. The lead can be detached from the harness. The whole item (including the lead - despite my description!) is very well made (made in Germany?). I haven't seen anything comparable or as comfortable for the cat for the price and it does look very smart!Whilst it will fit a small to medium sized cat, I'm not sure if it will fit a large cat (perhaps this is why the collar strap is there if only a small part of the velcro can be used?).I have managed to get my cat to wear it but we haven't tried the lead yet. If your cat isn't used to wearing a harness, a good tip before trying it on your cat is to leave it lying around for a few days so your cat can sniff it and get used to it. Then play with it like a toy for a while, then drape it over your cat, then do it up, then try the lead. Your cat may try to crouch when the harness or lead is attached but be gentle and allow plenty of time for your cat to get used to the feel of it.

Great harness. I did, however, modify it a bit! There is a plastic clasp on the front of it. This is in addition to the velcro. But the material that holds the clasp is a little light, it allows the clasp to move along it. Also it gets caught in the velcro. So I cut it off. If you use the velcro properly and are with the cat at all times then the chances of the cat opening the velcro are slim to nil. I also found the clasp was really tricky to open another reason to get rid of it.So now I have a perfect harness! It's really easy to put on and take off and has resulted in me bringing my cat out more as it's so easy to put on and take off. Then there is the lead. This is fantastic! It's quite elastic. This allows her to make a quick run, jump or other sudden motion without getting instantly pulled back and chocked! It's great. You do need to be mindful of the fact that it is elastic but once your aware of this at all times then it's fantastic and makes a huge difference in bringing my cat out.Overall this is a great harness. I did my modifications and am happy with it as it now is. Just be aware that if you take off the clasps then you do have a bit of sowing to do to reattach the velcro properly. You may well be happy with it as it is and not have to make any mods. For the price and ease of putting on and taking off and the really great elastic lead this is totally worth getting.Note the picture I attach is before the modifications I made.

This harness is wonderful! I have an extremely small teacup chihuahua so most dog AND cat harnesses either don't fit her or will fit her neck and not her chest or vice versa. This harness fits perfectly around her neck and is fully adjustable, and the girth is also perfect as it allows her a nice amount of space to breathe whilst also keeping her secure. The small buckle in the front is a great bit of extra support alongside the Velcro, just bare in mind you may have to double-loop the strap through the buckle to prevent it getting loose. The bungee leash is also a really helpful addition! However if you have a dog that lunges and you get this harness, just note the leash may break easily (it is meant for cats after all,who don't lunge), my dog sometimes lunges at other dogs and I could hear the leash rip a couple threads when she lunged at one point. Again, I doubt this is an issue you would have with a cat.The picture looked a little more pinky to me so I was expecting a pinky-red harness, but the harness is very much a true red colour. This isn't an issue, just an observation for those of you like me with bad eyes!Overall this harness is ideal for small dogs, so I imagine it's impeccable for cats too!

I will admit I have only tried using this outside once. My kitty does not like when I put collars or harnesses or bee costumes or bowties on him... (doesn't stop me though!)I have two problems with this. The first is that the lead is stretchy. I was so scared that my cat would run away and I would have preferred to have more control, to know exactly how far he could go. Secondly I would have preferred to be able to close it tighter. He is a two year old cat but slim and when I put him in this harness and then picked him up he started to slide out of it partially and I nearly had a heart attack imagining him running away at that moment. Now I will admit that I probably should have adjusted thesafety thing tighter and if I do ever take him outside with that again I will and I will use another lead I bought which is not stretchy. So the slipping out thing is probably a combination of me not doing it tight enough and him being a slim cat and the stretchy lead would probably not be an issue for people with cats who actually want to walk on a lead. My cat just does the walk a few steps and then flop inside. Outside he got over his dislike of the harness and ran for cover.

MY cat was seven months when I first put him on the lead. I was initially worried about it as he did go out on his own but I was surprised by how quickly he took to it. There was no squirming to get out of the harness which fits him quite comfortably and he is a big cat for 7 months. He trots nicely with the lead and enjoys being out on it. There is a velcro strap to secure around the neck and the belly so it can be adjusted to fit snugly for a big cat or a smaller one. The lead is long enough as it enables me to keep control of my cat and makes sure that he doesn't go where I don't want him to,but if you have a big open field or somewhere simialr you will be taking your cat then the lead does hook on and off so you could easily buy an extendable lead to fit the harness for more freedom for you cat.

Great harness but cat is having non of it. I can't actually get it on him as he won't sit still and goes crazy not wanting it on.However I will persevere. My cat harness is well made and arrived quickly. The colour we got was red with cream piping. It is made from a good quality material and is well made. The lead is long and is easy to detach from the jacket. The harness is a good size and although my cat is average size and doesn't like the harness at all, I can get his paws through the openings and it looks like there is enough space if he were to get bigger. The velcro is easy to close and it is tough and robustly made.Update 16/9/2015 Oli never did get around to liking it and I gave up,recently gave it away to someone who has a kitten and they seem to love it!

Bought this harness for my cat just over a year ago when she was a kitten. I brought a large, thinking she'd grow into it (she was a big kitten) but she stopped growing when she was 5 months old. However, it still fits her and she hasn't escaped from it! The velcro around her chest is a little long but there's nothing a safety pin can't fix! She seems super comfortable and it doesn't affect her movement at all. It took a bit of getting used to, she couldn't balance or jump while wearing it at first but now she goes about just as she would if she wasn't wearing it. The lead that comes with it is great as it is elasticated so gives her the freedom to run and jump however she wishes.Best harness you can buy, super reliable and a nice price.

Our Red Burmese boy, Orville, had eye surgery for the removal of an ulcer on his right eyeball. This necessitated his eye lid being sewn closed & his wearing a collar for THREE weeks, during which time he wasn't allowed outside. Absolutely impossible for the 8 years old "Red Devil."Only 2 days after his surgery he made it very clear that he wasn't happy about his confinement so we opted to buy this harness. What a great decision. It's easily fitted, gives us firm but gentle control & Orville loves it. 5 days later he even wants to sleep in it but obviously he isn't allowed. He weighs 5 kgs & there is plenty of room for further adjustment.Combined with the product's quality & prompt delivery we are all delighted with the harness.

I purchased the harness because it wraps around the cat with fasting with velcro holding it firmly in place. I do not want my cat to roam free outside on her own particulary when she is a a very keen hunter, and also the many dangerous lurking outside Dogs, Foxes and some people who seem to take a nasty view on cats.It took two weeks for her to get use to the harness she would just flop down and froze with plenty of patience she started to get use to it, and now I can walk her out when their are not so many dogs about. she can now roam outside in safety with me protecting her.The stretchable lead was particularly use full as she flies off in all directions. pleased I purchased it.

We bought this product because our cat had a sore on her shoulder and every time it scabbed over, she scratched it off. Now she has her breathable harness she can't scratch her sore and it's nearly healed up, just waiting for the fur to grow back. As the plastic 'lamp shades' that you can get for this kind of thing didn't stop her from scratching this sore, the harness has been a god send. She was a bit quiet for a day or so, but soon got used to it. Best to keep your cat in for safety reasons whilst wearing it, although we removed the ring that you attach the lead to and she has ventured into the garden, but not for long and not unsupervised.

My 20 year old cat has gone blind and senile so can’t go out alone anymore. But she really wants to go out. This was the compromise. It’s been an absolute god send. Was able to train her to use it very quickly and we both feel safe being outside with this on her. It’s not really very secure, it’s fine for my elderly cat but a bigger or stronger animal would break this in no time. The elasticated lead is quite annoying too as it doesn’t provide much resistance or ‘pull’. If she’s going too far towards the road I have to pick her up rather than use the lead to stop her going too far, because the lead just stretches and doesn’t stop her.

My cat came from a rescue centre, they said he had been there for over two years and no-one wanted him because he was so aloof but he made friends with my wife and I straight away. They also said he was fine walking with a lead. He took all of ten minutes to crash out on the setee in our conservatory and has been our best lap-cat to date.I bought this for him and he loves it. He has free run of our local area but he still loves to go walkies with his adopted ma or pa. Maybe he thinks he's a dog or even a person, he's definately your average cat.

Comfortable for the cat and sturdy, this vest has allowed me to take my cat for supervised walks and works well for that purpose. Despite using Velcro to hold the coat together it sticks well for long periods of time, and it also has a buckle belt around the neck as a added layer of security. The only issue I have is that it does feel too baggy and often my cat comes close to slipping out, though your mileage may vary based on cat size and width. Overall, good for trips to the vet or a way to control and lead your energetic cats outdoors.

22.2.2017

The harness itself is fantastic and fits snugly, it is lightweight, contours to the cat's body nicely and moves with the cat without hindering their natural movementMy cat was able to jump and stretch in the usual way while wearing the harnessThe only problem was with the lead being elasticated, when she went too far away from me, the lead was trying to pull her back again, which is not goodI would recommend buying a small dog extendable lead which is safer for the cat and for you as well
