My external door has a chipped cat flap but between that exit and our main home are 2 other doors the cat has to traverse. It was this way or put a cat flap into a double-glazed door or 20cm thick wall which I didn't want to do.So I bought this item for the thinner door (and their other item for the thicker door).I wouldn't say it was easy to fit but I am rubbish at this kind of DIY yet I managed it and the results look good. Most people shouldn't have any problems. My cat has no problems getting in or out and can go through it very fast if he wants (eg. running through).I also bought this for the 2-way locking mechanism and it works BUT once fully locked it still has some give at the sides if you push hard enough although it doesn't open. The locking looks less secure (plastic) and I am sure with some extra force it might break. Can a cat desperate enough to get in or out generate that force? I don't know yet and it wouldn't stop me from buying one to use until I was proved wrong (if ever) but I felt I couldn't complete this review without at least mentioning it. So locking quality gets minus 1 star.Other than that it continues to do the job I wanted for internal doors and I am satisfied. One last thing - I would not use this for an external home door - I was advised to go for a chipped cat flap and I am glad I did. It works great automatically and feel sturdy and secure enough for an external door.

Ordered this 2 days ago from 'Shop 4 Pets' and received today, very quick delivery and excellent service. This catflap has replaced a 'Catmate' that we have had fitted for years, I unfortunately broke the flap on the old one so had to find a replacement quick. Our local stores only stocked 'Staywell' so I bought a 'Staywell 300 Manual'. Unfortunately I have had to return it to the store because it was very noisy and the inadequate magnet was not enough to keep it closed when a strong wind was blowing, the flap was blowing out and also very noisy when in use, ie made a loud noise when the cat came through. I then decided to search on Amazon for another 'Catmate'which is much quieter when in use and it has a better seal on it with a strong enough magnet to keep it closed when the wind is blowing. One small gripe about the Catmate is they only supplied 4 small screws which were nowhere near long enough to go through a half inch panel of wood, it would have been nice if they had supplied a couple of different sizes as you do have to be careful not to get the wrong size as they screw into a very small plastic hole in the catflap, I think if you put the wrong screws in you would be in danger of easily breaking the plastic. Apart from this it is an excellent catflap compared to the Staywell 300.

I've had many cat flaps over the years, in fact, for 16 yrs I had a dog flap for my Border Collie, which the cats all used quite happily. When my dog went, I got a proper cat flap..you know, smaller, less draught coming in. After going through 3 Staywells..kept breaking the door flap pins due to the main cat believing she was being chased by monsters, I chose this one. It has a larger door, and is much easier for my main cat to look through for the aforesaid monsters!. It has 4 different ways of locking, in, out, in and out,or locked completely. The door is a heavier perspex than anything we've had before, so Mischief has to push harder (poor thing, she's enormous but SUCH a delicate lady!!),while the other two, a 19 yr old and a 6 month old have no problems at all. It's a sturdy little door. The only problem I had was a) it was a bit narrower than the door panel, so my husband sorted that by routing out the door panel and recessing the flap...looks good. It should teach me to read the dimensions more thoroughly!, and b) the catches are a bit awkward to use. Once you're used to them, they're not so bad, but it does take a little time to get used to how tight they are to move. All in all, it seems quite good, although only time will tell......and the size of Mischief's 'monsters'!

We have two Bengali Male (neutered) cats that are broke to leash, and they both travel with us, everywhere we go in our RV. They are Named Tiger and Panther, and are womb-mates, and we got them when they were eye-dropper feeding size. Our travel trailer is a small one, and too crowded for both of us, PLUS these two terrorists, so I needed this little flapper door. I built a rabbit-hutch-looking cage that is about 6' X 2' X 2'. I put in an opening that sits right up against the cat door, and put their cat box inside the cage. I mounted the door in an outside compartment door that they can get to from inside the RV. I also put in a door on the outside of the cage so I can clean the cat box. Perfect. They learned how to nose it open, and have no trouble at all with it.I have trouble with the latches. One for in and one for out. They are too hard for an old man to operate without a small screw driver to push down with, while you thumb-nail the latches open or locked. And if there is a grain or two of sand that gets into the latches... well they're even more of a pain. That's my only complaint. We love the door, and do recommend it. Just get a tiny screw driver and keep it handy.(And don't teach your cats how to use the screwdriver. Especially if they are terrorists.)

I used this door in a project to allow my cats in and out of my home without running up my electric bill during the hot Vegas summer. It's very easy for them to come in and out. They figured out the door pretty quickly. It locks well when you need to lock them inside. I originally ordered (and sent back) the small door. Cats may be able to fit through gaps they can put their heads in but I don't think my big boy would've been too happy squeezing in and out of that! This size is great for a decent sized cat. I don't recommend the smaller door unless it's for a ferret or something small.Anyways! I wedged mine in a sliding glass door in my kitchen with a fitted piece of wood and some sponge insulation from Lowes. All of this cost me less than $60 combined, and I didn't have to glue or caulk anything. (If any of you were looking for a solution for a sliding window option) I noticed that the only cat door mechanisms are made for horizontal windows, and they're very expensive. You can have one custom made for even more ($400+) If you're not sure what size wood to get, take a vertical measurement of the window, and take this cat door into Lowe's or Home Depot... Tell them the space you're trying to fill, and they should be able to cut a portion of wood to fit the gap.

Just what I was looking for and at a great price. We take care of a colony in our area and had built a shed for them. At first I was just leaving the door open for them but it didn't take long for the racoons to find out there was food in there. That and a cold spell was due. I found these on Amazon and decided to give them a try. Not being much of a handyman, the first one took me about two hours to get right. (I cut the hole too small and not very straight.) Once I got my mistakes corrected and got some longer screws to fit the 3/4 inch plywood everything came together well. The second one went in just right and only took me about 15 minutes. One of the older cats figured it out pretty quick and the others followed shortly after. Now they are going in and out like they had been using it all their lives. Only thing is one of our more playful cats decided to lay in wait inside and jumped the next cat to use the flap. It was fun watching them play fight back and forth through the flap.I've been bragging about them to everyone I know and would recommend them to anyone. Even a clutts like me can get them installed with the enclosed pattern and instructions. All you need is a jigsaw and a screwdriver.

I was looking for a cat door that went from my screened-in porch to the outside. Most of the products that I looked at were for thicker wood or core doors. I have a metal screen door and this is the cat door to buy for that purpose. The cat door was easy to install if you have something that will cut thru the metal of the bottom door panel. I have a rotary tool and the cutting bit made the job super easy. The instructions tell you to cut the metal with tin snips, but I don't know how that would cut cleanly without bending or creating a jagged edge. The door went in fast. Once you cut the hole, drill 4 holes and attach the front and back per the instruction sheet and your done.I don't think it took more than 15 minutes. The cats use it all the time. I have to rig something up to hold the door open though as these two cats seem to be afraid of the clear door flap. They don't get the concept of pushing it open with their head. I'm going to work on that. It's still a new concept for them.Along with the cat door, the company sent a list of all their cat door and associated products and for you techies out there, you can buy a door that opens with a chip that your cat can wear on the collar.

The Cat Mate is an attractive door flap that my Chihuahua uses on a daily basis. However, please don't let her know that it is a cat door. Cats are her sworn enemy, if she knew that it was designed for cats she would never use it again. Enough levity. I miss measured the lower end of my screen door, the Cat Mate is about two inches higher than the screen door kick panel. I thought that if one could install the Cat Mate in the screen, surely it could be installed partly in the kick panel and partly in the screen. Viola! It works great! When the Chihuahua hears a cat outside she hits that Cat Mate door as fast as her little legs can go. I'm estimating somewhere between 10 and 100 miles an hour.If you know where I can purchase an itty-bitty crash helmet, please let know. The Cat Mate door is holding up quiet well. Oh, I forgot to mention she learned that she can take her paw and bang the Cat Mate door very loudly. I live in a 5th wheel and the door is on the inside. The more rapid the knocking the more urgent the need! The Cat Mate is a great product. Not to mention a great communication device! I think my Chi is learning Morse Code.

I bought this to install onto a 1/2" thick board that goes in a window opening for a full size cat's access to a catio (outdoor cage and tunnels).- It fit the board fine - this model is for a thin sub straight- not a standard door or wall- easy to install and nicely finished on both sides- OK opening size for a full size cat (could be taller).- Great that is has a 2-way lock but question how long the sliders would last- I like that it is see through for my application but clear would be even better. Don't need the tint.- Looks like the flap seals well but I never had the chance to really test that....Unfortunately the flap is hard and takes a lot of push to dislodge it from the magnet (from a cat's point of view)so my big & strong but very timid guy would not push through it. I had to get a soft flap for him and he's still very funny the way he opens it with his paw then goes through, lol. But that's my cat. I suppose there are plenty of cats and little dogs who would fit this door and don't mind pushing their heads into hard plastic to get where they want to go.For a hard door, this is a nice design .

After tiring of litter boxes and trying to keep one cat in and one cat out (both males) and sometimes letting the outside cat in for a while, before I thought he got the urge, then standing at the door for minutes on end trying to keep the indoor one in, and waiting on the outdoor one to make up his mind, bathe, scratch and look around - I decided a cat door was in my future.I actually installed the Cat Mate into a window, having to fashion a section of plywood to fit in the window, and the cat door to fit into the plywood. The door came with a template and easy instructions, and both cats come and go and seem to enjoy the freedom and autonomy the door gives them. This model allows for you to lock them out, lock them in, or make the door one-way - meaning they can come in but can't go back out until you switch it, etc., It's a sturdy product, my two big boys go in and out 50 times a day and the door has been in service since early November with no issues. It cleans easily with a little water on a napkin.I like it, the boys love it.

Note that I'm writing this in reference to using it for a rabbit, I can't comment on what a cat might do to it.We have a rabbit that chooses whether to come in or go outside, initially we had to keep letting him in and out via the door but of course a cat flap is much easier. After a little coaxing over the course of a day or two he was readily able to use the cat flap as desired.Installation is easy enough, we have it in a pvc panel. I intended to buy the version with the liner but mis-bought the one without, so in the end we improvised, fixing the two sides using silicon adhesive and making our own lining for it.You do have to get the sides lined up properly and squarely as the hole you get is very slightly bigger than the bit that goes into it.It's been fitted about 5 months without any problems. As it's getting colder we haven't had any problems with a draft coming in, and this flap goes straight into the living room. The brush sides apparently are good at preventing the draft. All in all a decent flap for a rabbit.

This door works perfect for my cat! After accidentally leaving my poor kitty outside in a thunderstorm, I needed a way so she could access our screen porch on her own. This door is made for screens (which is how I use it) or thin doors (it’s says up to 1/2, but it actually fits up to 3/4 an inch). It took some enticing with treats, showing her multiple times how to use it and holding the door open until she got comfortable enough to use it, but after about a week, she was using it on her own. I like the four way lock system, it’s easy to use. And I like the size, price and color of this door. I put the top of the door 10.5 inches from the ground so that my cat could push on the bottom of the door and her tummy wouldn’t drag across the bottom (not many cats like their tummies touched!).My cat’s shoulders are 7.5 inches tall, her ear tops are at 10 inches and she weighs 11 lbs. This door is ideal for her and I highly recommend for screens or thin doors on small-average sized cats!!!

Recently I built a new deck and my dogs love to sun themselves. The cats are constantly crying as they wanted out, too. My weekend project was to install a lockable cat door in the wall next to the exterior door and externally to add an enclosed play pen for the cats. Briefly, it works... the cats love this, even if it doesn't allow them to roam freely.Regarding this door... the magnetic latch at the bottom of the door ensures that it closes properly after each use. The weatherstripping on the door prevents both wind and water from coming in. The locks at the bottom ensure that the cats can't get out when I'm not available to supervise, too. I installed this in combination with the Cat-Mate Wall Liners, which close the hole through the wall and permitted proper insulation on all sides. This door does exactly what's it's supposed to do, and works exactly as described. I do not hesitate to recommend it.

Have a 6.5 kg Maine Coon cat and needed larger cat flap for her. Over all mostly happy with what this door is. Arrived fast. Looked good and was easy to fit in our kitchen door (considering we already had all the tools). Cat manages to squeeze through it. Though if she grows any further I'll have to get a different door (Maine Coons for you I guess). Can't comment on drafts as our kitchen door leads to a garage.the only downside is the lock system. There are two slide buttons to clock the door. To open and close them you need to press and slide the button. Cats actually managing to close and open them by accident. My other cat just had and operation and is not allowed out. She digs as crazy on the flap.As a result she fully open the flap on one instance. So something to bear in mind

Just fitted this cat flap as a replacement for a very old one of the same brand. The width of the cutout is the same as the very old one that we removed, but the height was different. I like catflaps that are simple and aren't battery-powered because there's nothing to go wrong when you're on holiday and the cat is at home. This one fitted out 6mm thick door very well. One tip when fitting the car door is before you screw the catflap together in place, screw the two halves together part of the way, and then unscrew them again. This forms a screw thread in the front panel, then you can fit it onto the door, and it's easier to screw the two halves together because the thread has been made already. Also the instructions say drill a 5mm hole but we found 4mm is enough.
