Thought I would write top a follow up review - as I have had this camera a year now. Its been on hiking trips through thick and thin, travelled with me all over the UK and Greece including up a mountain. Would I still rate it as highly as my review a year ago ? Absolutely yes !!!! It takes great pics if you just leave it in Intelligent Auto but its simple enough to go manual when you need to get artsy with it. The Panorama mode is amazingly good. Images are sharp and its intelligent focus scarcely misses a trick. Its way better as a travel cam than my old Nikon P7000 and I have yet to see it hit a software glitch (The Nikon was a shocker for locking up and needing a reboot to sort itself out).Almost every time I use this camera I am more impressed with its capabilities to get the pic no matter how tough the conditions are. Why people seem to have issues with it is beyond me - especially people saying its fragile. If they are comparing it to an iPhone then yes it might well be but my TZ70 has been stored in a soft carry case and stowed in a pocket on my backpack across a mountain, across the Camino del Santiago and up and down more hills in the UK than I can remember. Its been out in rain, sun, snow and hail and its never yet had a problem. The controls are relatively intuitive for anyone who is familiar with cameras though I can see the iPhone generation and those unprepared to spend some time learning to use it may have issues. I wonder how they would have coped with film cameras of the past. For a travel camera it meets all my needs, its light, compact, doesn't make a fuss and just quietly gets on with its job of taking pictures of a good quality when its asked. The pic attached is straight out the centre on the Camino del Santiago - its been reduced in size to get it uploaded.

I really like this camera - an 'upgrade' from my (still) well-used and much liked LX5: Automatic ELV a real purchase-clinching bonus, and superb Leica lens all the way from Macro to maximum Tele. However, sadly, two minus points: 1. The 'push-down' On-Off switch. A retrograde step in my view as it's just too easy to accidentally switch the camera on, eg whilst getting it out of a coat pocket or backpack, thus risking obstructing the lens barrel as it extends in a confined space. That's virtually impossible with the 'slide & click' switch on the LX5. So a 'minus' point here, Panasonic - for not following the 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' maxim! 2.The automatic 'iris' lens cover.I've been really wary of accidentally touching it - eg, again, when retrieving the camera 'blind' from a pocket - and thus damaging what seems to be a very fragile item. So I've found that the only way of protecting this slide-away cover - and the On-Off switch - whilst 'in transit' is to keep the camera in a protective case - which detracts from the it's 'pocketability'! Or to find a push-on aftermarket cover to protect the whole barrel assembly? But that would be a no-no with the risk of the On-Off switch being accidentally triggered, or of changing the control-ring position. So I regret, a second 'minus' point........... But overall, I've found my new TZ70 a great piece of kit, and excellent value for the money. [And for those who find the in-camera battery charging system a bind, why not simply get and carry a second genuine Panasonic DMW-BCM13E battery? I did; not unduly pricey, even with the necessary 'unique-to-model' Lumix charger - pity neither are the same as for the LX5 ! - but still a well worthwhile 'instant' back-up power solution!]

Ex professional photographer so I wanted something that would allow full control but also offer solid 'happy snappy' results for when time is tight or when I just want a snap of some friends. I normally use Nikon but have been blown away by this camera, its easy to use ans fairly intuitive for anyone familiar with cameras and photography. For reviewers saying its too complicated I would say read the manual...thats what its for. If you cant handle a camera then stick to using your smart phone. Anyone who has done much photography would not be stuck with the controls on this. Its very responsive and tye more I use it the more I am impressed. Its light, compact and has everything anyone looking for a travel camera dould want. Its full auto mode gets pics even when the light is not great and the the intuitive menus are brilliant. Love the control wheel round the lens which makes it feel like a serious pro camera. My only small whinge would be the battery door looks a bit weak and fragile but to be fair I see this on a lot of digital cameras. I was looking for something for backpacking adventures that had to be small and light but have a decent manual control and a viewfinder as i often find a back LCD screen almost impossible to see in strong lig. This meets my requirements exactly.

I have owned the TZ10, I passed it on to my son who still uses it. I have had the TZ70 for over a year now. its number 1 attribute is its so light, versatile and has so many clever features:- Wireless connectivity which provides remote browsing/ download to phone, tablet, Pc or Mac as well as remote video stop/ start with zoom. Ideal for seeing over a crowd with the TZ70 high in the air on your mono pod or closed tripod. Being creative on the fly is made easy via a press on the QMENU BUTTON in P,S & A modes gives access to all major settings my favorite being the concentric ring graphic showing shutter speeds set against f numbers for the current light value. The artificial horizon that goes from yellow to green the instant the camera senses it is horizontal.. And that x30 optical zoom has got me some fantastic shots. Creative conttol is excellent, I love exploring the options it provides. Going back to wireless connectivity it is so simple to astablish the wireless link you just point the camera on your mobile device at the Qr code displayed on the camera viewfinder screen. If it could be managed it would be nice if you could set your phone or tablet to avoid downloading the same media twice.

The TZ 70 is a light weight, compact, pocketable, travel camera - perhaps not for a jeans pocket but fine in a jacket or coat. However the lightness comes from the construction, with thin metal panels and plastic parts; a camera nowhere as robust as e.g. A Fuji X30.The pixels are a limiting 12million, but the zoom range is amazing and the camera may be a problem to hold steady at full zoom. The camera software allows for remote control by a mobile phone and the built in wifi lets you transmit pictures to a phone as soon as they are taken - although it is a bit tricky to set up this facility, and a full 12 megapixel shot takes around 1 minute to transmit to your phone.Since writing the above I have had to abandon using the built-in Panasonic wifi software, finding, as many before me have done, that the built-in wifi transfer system is enormously buggy, as will be seen from Internet comments elsewhere. You may therefore find that it is better not to use it but to do as I now have had to do and use a wifi SD card instead and its matching software in your phone.Read full review...

I've only just bought the camera so these are first impressions. Having had the TZ30 and also an earlier model, this TZ70 feels a bit more plasticky than the old models, I see it's now made in China, earlier ones were Japan! I'm wondering how good the dial is, if it will last. Was peeved to find they've changed the battery from earlier models (TZ30), so now I have to buy a new spare. Also there is no charger, the battery has to be charged in the camera which is a nuisance, as obviously you can't use the camera at that time. Could be a pain when on holiday. I'm quite happy the gps has gone, as it was very innaccurate on the TZ30. The zoom seems excellent. The panorama setting has moved away from scenes but at least it is still there. Took me a while to find out how to change picture size quickly using the dial rather than having to go through the menu. Only had the camera a few days so will see what happens...........

It is a lovely piece of equipment. But first a NEGATIVE compared with the TZ20 which I've used for 2 years. The charging system means that you hardly need a spare battery (I bought one). But you have to tie up your camera for 3 hours when you need to recharge. Whilst it is more complicated than the TZ20, it is simpler to use. They have made things generally easier, though I've yet to master the control ring and the control dial on the menu button. The camera feels nice and solid but is still compact and is after all, a point and shoot device. It has an amazing zoom capability and the anti-shake facility works well.I have not been able to test the video function because of a screw up by the seller in supplying the correct SDHC card.

Out of dateNo sooner as a camera is introduced we start thinking of it’s replacementBigger more powerful chiplarger lense to cope with a bigger chip in size and capacity which is needed to take us up into the next level. Longer zoom with a built in stabling system as the zoom is extendedMore built in filters and action filmingI could go on which proves we will never be happy with any latest anythingManufacturers have allowed themselves be pushed along with higher spec that most of us will ever useAll I want is a camera offering the biggest physical chip in a cameraQuality comes from the size of the chip and not the mp of the chipLook at the top camera makers who address this in exactly withway

I had a Canon EOS with some interchangeable lens, and was very pleased with the results. However, I made the decision January 2016 to visit Thailand, and go to The Bridge Over The River Kwai. My father had been a prisoner of war under the Japanese during the second world war. I wanted an easy to use camera that would give great results, and fit in my pocket. I did the usual on line reviews, sought advice from my retailer, and the TZ70 rose to the challenge. While in Thailand, I was able to upload images to Facebook to share with my family and friends. The quality of the photos are fantastic, it is easy to use, has a great 'feel', really impressed. I have sold the Canon!

I am a semi-professional photographer familiar with DSLRs. This camera is to me the ultimate compact travel camera. The zoom at 30x is superb, with a very good steady shot. The eye level viewfinder is most useful outdoors when in bright sunlight. Picture quality is excellent right through the zoom range. Video quality outdoors in good light is excellent and cuts in well with a 'true' video camera, but video light sensitivity indoors is dissapointingly poor, and almost unusable for serious film making. But the 5 stars are justified as a great stills travel camera, which I have just used and enjoyed on a three week tour of South-East Asia.

i have just got my new TZ70 and been just playing around with it first impressions are very good photos look great on 42inch TV .movies look better than i expected so far looks like money well spent if i have one small gripe its that i would like to have seen a better build quality on the plastic body there is a lot of tech inside this compact TZ70 but if you have the TZ60 i don't think its worth the upgrade just on low light performance and a few movie tweaks a better more robust build like panasonic have been doing with the 4/3 compacts would make this the most have travel camera for the next few years

I bought this camera for my wife who has only used the iA function while using the camera. The results are quite stunning, with good clarity and exposure, even in really testing contrast conditions. The viewfinder option is really valuable in high sunlight conditions and was the real reason I chose this camera. One problem I realised later, was when I also bought the Panasonic FZ1000 for my own use - both cameras start with the same file numbers (un-editable on the cameras) so a huge risk of over writing files when saving to the computer ! BEWARE - Please do something about this Panasonic.

Great camera, zoom is good for a camera this size, and the pictures excellent quality. The best bit is a good quality viewfinder, impossble to find on a quality compact a couple of years ago. The only issue we've found is that, less than a week after buying it, nearly all the dial letters and icons for setting auto, Aperture etc modes have dssapeared. I found that sunscreen we are using disolves the text. To be fair we only noticed yesterday when the camera got knocked from auto, and have only just reported it. I imagine Panasonic will have to provide replacement parts.

My only serious criticism of the TZ70 concerns the complexity of everyday operation and rather too much gobbledegookery in the instruction 'guide.' I accept that much of my confusion stems from the fact that the controls work so differently from those of the Nikons with which I had become familiar. The TZ70 is also just a bit too big for jeans pockets, while the sockets for the (provided) cord to connect it to my PC are non-standard, which obliges the owner (me) to pack yet another cord.

Wanted a new camera as my old one is now about 6 years old and too bulky to carry around. I wanted one that was compact, yet had as many features as possible, as my son is going to be taking photography for GCSE and I figured it would be good to practice on when he needs to. And I wanted to be able to point and shoot for myself, without worrying about what everything does. This camera seems to be ideal. A friend who is a semi-pro photographer put it through it's paces and he was impressed.
