I've had this camera for almost about two months, and have been really impressed by how much it has to offer for such a small camera. Image quality is nice and the zoom is the main reason I bought the HX80, and it's amazing having that range from such a smal package. It's nicely built too, feels really solid. However, there is one serious problem, that I've read about from other owners of the HX80 and HX90, who were complaining about dust on the sensor. Yes, you would think that as it is a sealed unit, this should not be an issue, but it is. I have to send my HX80 away, for how long I don't know, to get it cleaned. I keep my camera clean and in a bag at all times when I'm not using it,so this will happen again, probably when out of warranty!

Feels great to handle and produces some excellent results. The software to connect to a smartphone or PC works okay but can be a bit frustrating to get started. I just wish Sony had chosen to have a slightly bigger sensor (say 1/1.7) to improve low light performance and put clear daylight between this camera and that of a smartphone. That would mean the lens would have to be slightly bigger and no doubt increase the cost, but I think it would be worth it. In some circumstances my Xperia XZ1 smartphone, with its f/2 maximum aperture, takes better photos than this camera! Nonetheless compared to other equivalent cameras in the price range, the HX80 is maybe the best choice. Overall,I'm very pleased with my purchase.

i was immediately impressed with the small size and the "heavy" weight, build quality and the zeiss lens. the weight gives one confidence and stability in use. I detest llightweight cameras(i also use an "old" nikon dslr). It had to be VERY GOOD to equal my (now Broken) TZ60, and it does! the most impressive feature for me is the viewfinder, which contrary to a lot of reviews, I find perfect, giving a crystal clear image, actually brighter than the scene itself which aids focussing. Macro, was hard to find, until I realised it was automatic when you held the camera close to an object, all in all,a worthwhile addition to my nikon and a better replacement to my previous compact "travel" camera.

I've had this camera for a couple of weeks and am pleasantly surprised by the picture quality. I wanted a small camera to carry around when cycling. I always use manual settings so I can't speak for the auto settings. I've found it easyish to use, it has a good focussing system. I've brightened the screen & view finder since I found the default settings too dark. The LVF is a bit fiddly but I have used it on occasions & I like the tilting screen which helps improve some compositions. As expected hand held shots taken on high zoom aren't brilliant without a tripod. I haven't used all the features yet but the camera is achieving what I expected.

Nice little camera, with a multitude of options in the menu, at it's maximum, the 30 x zoom is useful but can be difficult to focus and keep steady when using the screen. This can be helped by the tiny but usable pop up viewfinder. Image quality is generally very good but like all small sensor compacts it suffers in low light. After weeks of trying different settings I found that (P) Programme mode with MF Noise Reduction 'on' produced the best results, also I reduced the in-camera sharpening to -2 to avoid over processing. If you want to keep things simple the Superior Auto (yellow) mode is good for most situations.

Bought this camera about a month ago,it's well made seems to be a quality product......I'd love to be able to say I've taken some great photos with it....but the instruction manual is a complete joke,no explanation of what the screen icons are,no user guide to suggest the best settings to help you to get the best from the camera.....the online guide is just as useless.....beginning to regret buying it now.....it would appear that Sony don't care.....looks like my only option now is to buy a guide book....and I really shouldn't have to do that. NOT happy

I've not used the camera a lot yet but it has been excellent so far, including wireless photo transfer using playmemories. Also love the remote control using the phone. My issue is that too get the applications updated I had to enter a valid Sony user ID and password on the camera. To do this I had to reset the password on three different Sony sites before I could login on the camera. I think your account needs to be on the PlayStation network although I fail to understand why my account is not common to all Sony sites.

I bought this as a pocket camera to take walking in nature as it had 30x zoom which is at the top end for this size camera. In practice the zoom is stunning, being able to pick out things the eye can barely see, the optical steady shot making it usable when hand-held. The other feature I like a lot is the electronic viewfinder which means you can see what you're taking in bright sunlight and even look into it to review your photos. No manual focus though, so designed mainly as a point and shoot.

This is an excellent camera and the picture quality is excellent both at the extreme zoom range and close up but the macro photos are incredible. The camera itself is quite small but is solidly made and feels really comfortable and easy to use. This was a replacement for a Sony hx 60 that I dropped onto concrete but I reckon this is a much better camera as it has a Zeiss lens even if it is down on pixels. Overall I am extremely pleased with this camera and have no hesitation in recommending it.

I purchased this Sony Cybershot HX80 to replace my HX50, and I am delighted with it. It's very compact so it's great to take everywhere. It's easy to use with an in-built guide to all it's functions. Like all the Cybershots the camera has a good size LCD screen for it's size. For me though the best thing about the camera is the additon of a pop up view finder. It makes taking photographs in bright light a doddle. With a 30 x optical zoom you can't really go wrong with this little camera.

Compact and easily fits in a pocket. Good picture quality and a large zoom range. Although at the higher end of magnification stability can be an issue and sometimes it struggles to focus. I particularly like the option of the spirit level on screen when taking a picture. I also like the electronic viewfinder and that you choose for it to pop up only when needed. Tilting screen can be useful. The on/off button is too small but the other controls are easy to use. Overall, very pleased with it

I love this camera, and it's small size. Great for holidays and days out. Great zoom and a viewfinder is one reason I bought it. Not having to try and see the screen on bright days. Loads of features and setting's or just use on auto. Can even take selfies with the titling screen. Picture quality very good even in low light and flash is good and hides away when not needed like the viewfinder, leaving a compact design.Would recommend this camera to anyone though not for professionals.

While the sensor in this camera is only on a par with high-end smartphones, it is paired with a 30x optical zoom, excellent image stabilisation and the superb XAVC S video format which delivers amazingly sharp videos. It's not great in low light without the flash but Sony's multi-frame processing in Intelligent Auto mode can produce impressive results. The viewfinder is a invaluable when taking photos in bright sunlight. The menus could be better laid out but you get used to them.

I brought this camera as I wanted a light weight camera that takes pictures as good as a big DLS camera. It has a 30x zoom and the zoom lens folds right back into the camera when not in use. It easily fits into a pocket.. It also has a lens that you can look into to take photos when it's really sunny and can't see properly on the big screen. Every photo I've taken is crystal clear. I'm disappointed it doesn't have a defocsed background setting. Unless anyone knows if there is one?
