Wow ! I really don't know were to start, this camera is just amazing it comes packed with so many features it will take a while to get accustomed to them to enable me to use even half of what this camera is capable of. To give you a brief resume of what i know about photography and from this i hope to help you understand just how incredible this Dmc-Gx80 4K camera is,not being a professional reviewer i can say it as i find it ?.Having started getting into photography over 50 years ago i went through Roll Film cameras to 35mm SLR Film cameras (Pentax,Minolta etc ) and then started Digital photography soon after it was launched the very start with 2Mp cameras were the new revolution.Things wenton in leaps and bounds and i progressed to my first Four Thirds camera also a Lumix G3 plus a 45-145 Tele Lens, which is a real gem of a camera i also own a Canon EOS D100 Kit with 300mm Tele and i soon added many high quality Canon lenses to my bag to complement the Basic lenses supplied with the Kit.Now sorry about the waffle but i hope to make you understand i am no new comer to this fantastic hobby and my explanation of just how good the Lumix Dmc-Gx80 4K really is?. It even in the short time i had this little beauty it has become my very favorite of all time ! and i really mean all time and i have owned hundreds of cameras over the years. Yes any one can buy a decent camera and point and Shoot half decent pictures as you can with this BUT where this shines for me is in Manual Mode YES you have the control to compose accentuate and express your own creative streak.Add a High Quality High Speed SDXC memory card ( I feel this is essential to get the best from the Lumix especially if 4K Video recrding ) i use 128GB and 64Gb Pro UpTo 95Mb /sec Read / Write speed Cards. This allows amazing blistering fast Burst rates of photo recording, previously unknown to myself ? as fast as you can press the shutter ( even with Flash enabled ) and what i have explored is the ability to shoot fantastic pictures in low light without flash.. Ok you probably gather that I just love this fantastic little Camera and i have only explored less than half of what it can do, Oh the other bonus is i can use my other Lumix Lenses with it. I just need to save my pennies and try to get enough to buy the fab 100-300 Zoom Telephoto Lens to add to the Kit Bag ? then i honestly feel i would have a perfect setup without need to look any further other than add some of the awesome large aperture prime lenses 50mm F1.2 ( Oh Dream ON LOL ) these cost a small fortune but would be worth it..I hope that i have not bored you ? but if you did bother to read this through you will understand that i have nothing but praise for this and Highly recommend you buy it.

When I first picked up my GX80 with its 12-32 mm kit lens, the camera's solid build, heft and rangefinder styling evoked fond memories of my old Leica M2 with its collapsible Summicron. That very positive initial impression has only been reinforced by my subsequent experience. I have been using a Lumix G5 for nearly three years, during which my admiration for micro four thirds as a system combining compactness and light weight with high image quality has remained undimmed. My attraction to the GX80 was based on it being even more compact than the G5 while still offering a very high specification and a few technical upgrades at a sensible price. That the electronic shutter is not limited to ISO 1600 was just one of these attractions, but what has made the strongest impression on me so far is the new mechanical shutter - easily the quietest and most refined I have encountered on an interchangeable-lens camera. The GX80 also gives me image stabilisation with my Olympus 45 mm lens. I have not yet tried out 4K video, focus stacking or other new features but have no doubt that I will. Being a slightly smaller camera than the G5, the viewfinder on the GX80 is a bit smaller but still very good. Naturally, the battery is a little smaller too and the in-body stabilisation needs power. The touch screen is superb. There is no provision for a cable/wired remote release but considering the built-in WiFi and the excellent Panasonic Image App, a smartphone makes such a feature unnecessary. I am impressed by the quality of the kit lens. Its maximum angle of view is usefully wider than the 14-42 mm that came with my G5. Technically and optically, the GX80 is an excellent camera. Its build, together with its discreet styling and the fit and feel of its dials and buttons makes it, for me at least, an exquisitely lovely one to use.

After being a Canon DSLR user for years, I wanted something smaller and lighter with decent image quality. I went for the Panasonic G7. It's an amazing camera. I've used it for around 2 years. Again I wanted something a little smaller, that I could fit in a pocket without the compromise in quality (like you'd get with a compact). The specs for the G7 and GX80 are almost identical, however the addition of IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) and the removal of the low pass filter, makes for a superior yet smaller camera. The IBIS is superb, sharp shots down to 1/20th or 1/10th of a second. Better resolution than the G7 despite the same 16MP sensor, due to the removal of the LPF. And with the kit lens (12-32mm),due to its collapsing lens barrel design, it fits in a jacket pocket no problem. My only gripe is with the kit lens, image quality is superb, but there's no focus ring, so only auto focus with this lens. It's a little slower to focus than other lenses but still fast enough, but I do prefer manual focus. A small compromise for the portability, so I can live with it. All round an amazing camera, an advanced or pro tog would be happy with this as a main or backup/go everywhere camera.

The Panasonic Lumix GX80 is a good buy for those who don't want to spend stupid amounts of money on something like the Fujifilm XT20. It has good performance all round. The only negative I have come across is the cameras ability shooting Raw files. From my findings when you shoot in raw the camera records raw files at 1920 x 1440 giving you a photo of only 3 mega pixels. The raw file should be at 4592 x 3448. I have found a way around this problem by processing the raw file inside the camera, it then saves the Jpeg at the larger dimensions giving you a 16 mp image. If you like to post process raw images on your computer be warned that once you transfer the raw files to your laptop /pc the raw file will only be at 1920 x 1440.I have noticed other people have this problem from reading reviews. I now shoot in fine JPEG giving me an image of 4592 x 3448 which equates to a 16 mp image. If you are unsure you just multiply those two numbers together and round it up. The camera takes outstanding jpeg images so I don't mind not shooting in raw.

I purchased this last week, well that's when it arrived. I immediately set it up and couldn't wait to test it out. I'm a budding photographer and am used to weighty DSLRs and heavy Telephoto lenses. I immediately noticed that this mirrorless model was weightless in comparison and the Kit Lens supplied with the camera (12-32mm), is amazingly compact, but surprisingly powerful. I knew this wouldn't be a full replacement for any of my Pro kit, but it definitely would accompany it and rival some of my most used gear. The images taken with this camera and kit lens are sharp, and vibrant. Detail is in abundance. The quality of the features packed into this compact device are fantastic.I especially love the post focusing features along with the 4K burst options. I would recommend to any photographer who wants a compact camera, that can be used alongside existing equipment or as a standalone, to purchase this. You won't regret it. The removal of a low pass filter, means images are extremely colourful, with fantastic detail.

I have a few cameras and have been a photographer for for 25 years. It amazes me that some of the tricks we learnt way back in the day are now tech features in such a tiny package. I've never been a fan of kit lenses until Fuji came along with it's 18-55. This lens may not be as sharp as a Prime but the image quality is fantastic, 4K video is simply beautiful, the dual Image stabilisation lets me shoot at very low shutter speeds. The tour de force though is it does it all in in such a small camera, easily fits in to my jacket pocket or wife's handbag. It has no socket for ext mic or to plug in headphones I use this for B-roll though and record sound separately so no issue.(int mics are decent for general video such as kids playing)Pros: Body size, image quality, 4k, raw, tilting touch screenCons: No mic or headphone socket

Amazingly fast focus, super sharp images. Coming from the Olympys E-P5, I couldn't get my head around the menu system, & went back to the trusty E-P5. By doing so I've probably missed out some fancy features. However, that was must me and the fact I was already familiar with the Olympus menus and features. The Lumix GX80 is technical wonder and currently top of the Micro 4/3rds compact tree. I'm guessing the 20MP Olympus Pen is good - but it is a fashion statement & costs over twice as much.If you are already an E-P5 owner, you should probably save your money unless you are really keen to get your hands on all the fancy techno features like 4k video and focus stacking.Check out David Thorpe'sYoutube videos for a much better idea than I can give here.Hope this helps.Read full review...

Just had the camera for one month. As a casual user I found the small operating book was not sufficient to explain the various functions but the full operating instructions are good, if somewhat difficult to follow at times. Although it has an automatic mode, there are still a variety of settings that can be used in this mode which can be confusing. To get the most from the camera I think it will take a while to understand all the features. If you have a good understanding of photographic techniques then you should find it easier to become comfortable with all that this camera has to offer. I found the basic 12035 lens lacking in telephoto range and will be investigating a telephotoaddition/replacement.

To say that this camera is stunning is a bit of an understatement. In the past I owned cameras that cost many times what the Lumix GX80 costs but none of them would compete with this little beauty. The autofocus is blisteringly fast and the images are bright with well defined colours and they are sharp. The kit lens that comes with it tiny but don't let that fool you, it is a very capable lens, there are better lenses but for the time being I will use the lens that came with the camera. It is a capable video camera as well so if you are looking for a smallish camera that does it all then look no further. It truly is amazing.

Quite a step up from my previous camera the LX7. Still working my way through the online manual. Quite heavy but getting used to the weight. With wearing glasses and using the electronic viewfinder difficult to see all the edges in one go. At first the built in flash picked up the end of the lens barrel of the Leica 12-60mm when fired. So bought the Panasonic pancake 20mm prime. Then suddenly the flash became aware of the longer lens of the body and has not been a problem since, Difficult to explain why that happened. Missing a fully articulating screen. Need to program all the function buttons. Overall a cracking camera.

The on/off switch is badly placed, when used you can also change your mode dial setting by mistake. The camera is heavy and this could prove a problem for some users. The view finder image could be a lot better, its bright but the image lacks resolution. The touch screen can be difficult to use if you have large fingers, as I have, its also not very good in bright sunlight so thankfully there is the view finder. I am still getting to grips with all the controls and software that come with this camera, its an extensive range and I would recommend you buy a book on it as the mini instruction book supplied is a bit minimal.

The GX80 is the best Panasonic micro four thirds camera so far. The shutter is so much smoother and quieter than the GX7, and there is a big improvement in low light image quality. But, it still lags behind any of the Olympus micro four thirds cameras for image quality, and if you have used Olympus, you could never get used to the inferior EVF of the GX80. It's also a lot heavier than thelikes of the Olympus E-M10.The one feature where Panasonic beat Olympus is the lens. The 12-32mm is a fantastic little lens. The image quality isn't far behind the Olympus 12-40mm pro.

5.9.2017

This camera is small but robust with so many features that you get lost. I am at the start and still searching into the features. In auto mode picture quality is amazing even at low light conditions. Video is also excellent at 4K. Although I do not have something to compare, when shifting the picture at high speed I would expect a smoother transition but still for 4K it is excellent. The sound is medium however. The double IS is doing a great job. I believe this the best value for money mirrorless camera at this point of time .

I ordered the tan one, which has a really nice retro feel to it, the camera is compact but feels really solid to hold. Mine came with the pancake kit lens 12 - 35, which is ok, but if you buy only one other lens, then get the 25mm prime lens F1.7, this is one beast of a lens, it takes brilliant pictures with a really nice bokeh effect and works really well in low light conditions. I have just ordered the 45 - 150 for some Tele photo use, so I can't wait to get some shots

I'm only a 'happy snapper' who is trying to improve his photography, I own other Panasonic MFT cameras and like the form factor. I bought the GX80 as a travel camera (holidays!), its small & compact size with the ability to change lenses makes it great little unit with great features & picture quality - I've not had the 'full' GX80 experience yet, but so far with some general shooting all is great - especially the 5 axis in-body stabilisation!!!
