Bought this three months ago when my old camera gave up. I toyed between this and a Panasonic, but the Panasonic was sold out locally so I bought this one. It is great to use once you have managed to work out settings, and can and does produce the most fantastic quality photos. BUT. Yes there are buts. Flash. Not what I would call automatic or convenient as you have to press a button to make it usable and it pops up and can be caught. It is fairly slow to focus, despite what it says, and the battery has a short life span. It also lacks a viewfinder having just a screen which makes sunlight shooting very difficult. It is quick and easy to start recording videos which are great quality even in the slightly lower grade, the button is perhaps a little to accessible as I have sometimes recorded when I did not want to! It is a very comfortable camera to hold for weight and size and feeling of solidity.I do regret buying this to a certain extent and wish I had waited for more of the Panasonic to become available, but I needed it quickly, and despite my criticisms is very good.Compact but a little bugger and heavier than some, but not unexpected for such a magnificiant MP/Zoom. Perfectly acceptable as it is still smaller than bridge/DSLR's, but with the quality and features, and still fits in jacket pockets. It was also extremely difficult to find a decent case to fit.A good camera but some features ruin it for me personally. I am positive hundreds will fin it brilliant. I must stress though that the quality of photos on the correct settings is unbeatable.

To set the scene (so to speak), I was looking for a high spec replacement for my old Canon compact which has sadly become a little dated and came across this little beauty after a few searches. The specs looked impressive and reviews generally very positive apart from the odd one which were clearly posted by highly fussy individuals in my opinion! The camera body itself is classed as a compact but is actually quite chunky and certainly way more chunky than my old Canon so doesn't slip into the pocket quite so easily. That said, the performance and spec of this camera make the increase in size a minor complaint. The zoom itself gets you up close and personal with your subject matter and the images are generally pin sharp. There are lots of options to play around with which make it easy for an amateur user to get to grips with whilst also providing the more serious photographer enough toys to keep the unit interesting. The Wi-Fi link up feature is very useful snd having the ability to beam your snaps onto a SMART TV immediately after taking them is really smart!I have added a case to mine which adds to the bulk of the camera somewhat, but to be honest, so far I have found myself reaching for this camera more often than my DSLR so you could say that the spec allows you to create great images without needing to carry the DSLR, lens, etc.In summary, from an amateur perspective I would recommend this camera to anyone I know especially for the low price point.

I'd been looking out for a new compact with a better zoom as things had moved on in the 5 or more years since I'd purchased my Fuji camera with its 5X zoom. I tried the Sony DSC HX60 in the Sony shop in Berlin and it was an instant hit. The controls are easy to reach and the camera has a nice feel to it. I've now had one for about 5 months and used it at various events including a recent trip to Geneva where I got the chance to try it out in many different conditions, including at the motor show, with all the glare and different lighting conditions. It's a compact so I wasn't expecting much from the flash, but it does a reasonable job when called for.Without the flash the camera will take 2 or more quick shots and merge them which works really well but still not quite as well as using the flash in my experimenting. The menu is vast and although I'm not one to fiddle with the manual settings, there are a number of pre-set options which can add a bit of fun to the odd shot. All in all I'm really pleased with the camera, the PlayMemories software that you need to use to load the snaps onto the PC is not so good. Easy to use yes, but it's slow and so far I've not found an easy way to select 50 or 100 shots in the middle of 300 shots without clicking each one, which is time consuming. I probably need to try a few things out with the software when I have time, but I'd rather it was a bit easier to use from the start.

I bought the HX60v after using up the HX20 and HX50. I use it for work, creating property reports. I take hundreds of pictures in one day (sometimes in one hour). I need a camera with reasonably wide lens, good battery life, quick to focus and process and it needs to manage well in low light, I also need to be able to see the screen from different angels - these Sony cameras do the job well. I also like the size, it's no too small which makes it easy to hold but not too big so it still fits in my handbag. Having chosen the same camera again and again it is clear I like it and it does what I need it to do very well.It produces very good quality pictures on auto mode but can also be manually set.The HX60V is just as good with regards to all of the above but I find the menu easier to use. I also like the added square photo size.I must say that I do have some design issues with it: I am not so keen on the flash which seems a little flimsy (same as HX50 which recently blow up on me) and does not come up automatically but needs to be up to be used (was canned after HX20) this makes it even more vulnerable to break. I also dislike the USB charger port cover its is also flimsy and looks like easy to break. I do find that I accidentally press the video button too often because of its position next to the where I put my thumb. All in all I really do like this camera and think that for its size it is very impressive.

Having used a SONY HX20V daily for the past 2 years and been very happy with its performance & results, I've just added the HX60 to my 'stable', almost as an upgraded back-up.The HX20V is comfortable in my hand and solidly built, whereas the HX60 is a tad more chunky, squarer & feels more 'plasticky'. I'm hoping I'll get more used to it in time. The buttons, too, feel less positive , specially the Power On/Off which is in a different position. However the Video button, as on the HX20V, I feel is too close to the thumbgrip and I've been known to take some strange, unwanted movies of my feet, etc!The flash unit, which you have to switch on by button, looks a trifle flimsy so needs careful handling - also its position top left is just where my left hand wants to hold the camera. The control knobs seem quite stiff & uncomfortable at present, maybe will free up with use.The screen is clear & bright and I knew it doesn't have a viewfinder, but there is a hot shoe which the HX20V doesn't have. There seem to be a lot more features which I haven't had a chance to try out yet, and it does have the extra zoom range & bigger pixel count, so I'm hoping this HX60 will emulate if not surpass my trusty HX20V, which gives great quality shots & superbly-focussed video.

I have to say this camera gives fantastic value. I'm a professional myself, so every time I look at compacts that will be handy for casual shots etc I always end up looking at very expensive ones and so not getting anything.Got this camera, when asked to pick up compacts for two family members... got one myself and once I started exploring the functions and using it a bit was very impressed. The optical zoom as 30x is amazing ... I shot video on it, looks great on the big screen TV, hi resolution. It has a good range of automatic functions, including shutter and aperture priority and full manual... even an exposure correction dial, on the camera, so not need to go into a menu to use it.Video fans will enjoy this a lot, sound quality good, it has wind reduction, file format options different resolutions to shoot at. You can leave it as is, or adjust to your own preference. One thing to watch out for, you can accidentally change display and other setting, which is a bit of a pain... keep the manual and you'll be alright. If you use it a lot, those things won't be a problem .Very happy with this purchase, delivered much more than I expected. .. and if it just delivered what I expected, it would still be a great purchase.Read full review...

As someone who travels constantly for work and leisure, and always carries a camera wherever I go, after 6 weeks of using this camera daily, I am bowled over by the results that I am getting. For many years I have used SLR cameras and I decided to try living with a smaller camera due to increasing pressures from airlines on cabin baggage and the challenge of getting heavy SLRs through airline security. I selected the HX60V following a recommendation from my wife and I have not regretted my choice. The best feature of all is the sweep panorama which delivers excellent results. The movie feature is also first rate although I would have appreciated in camera editing. I have purchased the additional bracketing software, although I would have expected this to be included as a basic feature for the price. The battery life is good but I have purchased a 2nd sony battery as I use the camera so heavily - but it was very expensive compared with the clones and fakes which are available. I am still working my way through the features, but I cannot work out how to take images in monochrome, but this may be me. Also, the user guide is very basic compared with those offered with competitor products. Overall, I would recommend this camera.

I have owned numerous compact cameras over the years mainly to supplement my dslrs. My trusty old panasonic TZ10 was getting a bit long in the tooth so decided to treat myself.Having looked around various sites and read many online reviews narrowed my choice down to a few contenders. The most important thing for me is image quality, ease of use and portabillity. In that respect the HX60 certainly ticked all the boxes. The massive optical zoom range, full hd video and wifi and nfc all make this one very well featured camera.More than enough modes and customisation to suit my needs.Excellent screen and as much information as you could wish for on screen.Very happy with the overall picture quality,atA3 size not far behind my 18mp dslr.Downsides? No raw shooting which to be honest will not be of importance to most users. And that old achilles heel of all cameras without a viewfinder, screen glare. This is unavoidable in certain situations, especially with the sun behind you.Solution?Bought a third party flip out screen hood for less than a tenner.Problem solved.Overall a cracking little camera well suited to many situations,I have no reservations in recommending the HX60.

Bought this at the airport before going on a 2 weeks holiday. Cheaper by £50. I did some research on the current breed of 30X travel zoom cameras from Sony, Canon, Panasonic and Nikon and decided on this one based on its features, reviews and how it felt to handle. Guess I wasn't wrong. Not giving it 5 stars because of the following negatives:- built quality not as good as some rivals, Panasonic feels the best- not very consistent in low light- software/menus could be better- takes time to switch on, if you just switched it off- flash does not work with custom 3 shots on self timer- additional view finder nearly as expensive as the camera - what's the point???POSITIVES:- feels most comfortable to handle, even in one hand- great zoom (although digital zoom makes the pictures look like paintings!)- very good picture quality in outdoor and most of the times indoors- flash position and output very good - didn't like the Panasonic flash position- very good battery life - although always carry an additional- very good all in one travel camera - I am sure the other cameras have similar pros and cons, it all boils down to personal preferences.

Having used most of the Sony HX models from the HX5 upwards I had high expectations from this camera and overall I have not been disappointed by the results obtained. However, on using it for the first time I had a shock when I discovered it did not have a dual recording facility, as this feature as on previous models was one of the reasons I purchased it. This is a most useful facility and I cannot see why Sony have discontinued it. To be able to take a full resolution still whilst recording a movie is well nigh essential for, say, railway photography as it really is a case of 'when it's gone it's gone' and one or two stills additionally of the locomotive in action really enhances the movie output. If you want dual recording the HX50 is the one to go for.The quality of both movies and stills is exemplary and easy to obtain in the auto modes. This is clearly demonstrable on a 50 inch television screen where the camera output is stunning. The camera looks good and feels good in the hand, is a pleasure to use, and has more features than I will ever need, being primarily a point and shoot merchant.

I had to replace my damaged Nikon compact due to an accident. Its a supplementary buy to compliment my DSLR which I cant always take everywhere such as music or sports events. I didnt want to spend a fortune and this offered a very good buy where the zoom was a major search consideration.I've only had it 2 weeks but already the most obvious feature is the amazing 30x zoom lens which gave me incredible close up shots from one end of a football stadium to the other. Picking out the opposing goalkeeper with clarity. Same applies to close ups and I got a great high res shot of a Bee on a flower from 10 feet away that could be zoomed in to with no loss of sharpness. The setting thumbwheel is alsogood as it doesn't go overboard with different scene settings that in my opinion complicate the usability. I've not successfully managed to use the wifi transfer or NFC options yet , probably because I haven't read all the instructions yet. Feels reassuringly heavy and well built in my palm without being cumbersome. Overall a very decent buy and happy with my first Sony camera

I purchased this to replace the previous Sony model HX50 which developed auto focus problems after four years. I believe this was probably due to sand entering the mechanism while photographing an air show on a sandy beach. The HX 60 has all the features of the HX50 plus Wifi and an improved on screen user guide. Photographs are really easy to take using the basic features and the 30x zoom is brilliant for long distance shots. I use have used the camera for indoor shots while visiting historic buildings and even in dark settings, it is easy to take clear pictures without using the small integral flash unit.I'm not a trained photographer so many of the additional camera features are beyond my knowledge although I have never needed most of them to take some really clear pictures. The Wifi capability has given me the ability to transfer selected pictures to my smartphone to use them as attachments or in social media applications. I thoroughly recommend this little compact camera which produces superior pictures compared with my smart phone.Read full review...

This is my 3rd Hx series Camera and while not as sturdy, the styling, spec and capabilities put it at the top of the 3.Below Iso 800 image quality is brilliant, above and quality does drop, but hht and mfnr does help, a lot. It's very easy to use, the jog dial works very well and the very few buttons (which are a bit too small) are responsive.Zoom wise; long or wide the quality of images remains the same. It's retro looks and size is superior to other mickey mouse offerings from other manufacturers, sadly though not everything is perfect; the camera had to go back for repair, which was very quick (a week in total), but the biggest bug bear is the battery/sd card door hatch, the retaining switch is pathetic, every time I go to use the camera I have to close the hatch, again, which having owned many alphas and compacts is very annoying and frustrating. If anyone's looking for a great little travel camera that's big on features then it's a very simple choice, and with the most appropriate competition (TZ60) costing a lot more it's a no brainer.

I bought this compact camera some weeks ago but have not really had a chance to really put it through its paces. I was a professional photographer some years ago covering mostly weddings but also a lot of nature photography and landscapes, for this I have always sworn by and used near top of the range Nikon cameras. Now of course I am retired but still like to get out and about even though I have reduced mobility, I still always take the camera for an opportunity to catch that elusive once in a lifetime shot that I might otherwise miss; how handy it is to me now not to have to lug sometimes heavy equipment around but still having a small pocket-sized compact that almost compares favourably with all my Nikon equipment I used to use.It has almost all of the features i.e. shutter and aperture priority that I use a lot as well as having a video setting, I am very impressed and would unreservedly highly recommend this camera to other beginner or experienced photographers.Snap it up before it gets superseded., a great little camera.

I have had the camera for only two weeks, purchased to replace an SLR and to compliment the iPhone 7. I wanted similar features that came with SLR but in a compact form and the connectivity of the iPhone. For me it has ticked all the boxes. It takes superb shots in intelligent + mode that I can’t replicate no matter how I set the camera up. So hats off Sony for this feature. If I have one complaint is the display is a little difficult to see in direct sunlight, for that I miss a view finder. The biggest bonus is the WiFi feature which transfers the pictures easily to my iPhone. At first i struggled with the process, then I realised I needed to install the app!!Once the WiFi connection was secured open up the app and the files are transferred immediately. I have not even picked up my phone to take a picture since I’ve had the camera. Among its many features the price also secured its purchase, I would have preferred the gps version but it was that bit too expensive for me. Would I recommend this camera, oh yes.
