Great camera for creative photography, everyday carry around, and travel photography. Offers a lot of control for more creative photography, but for days when you just want to point and shoot it still has good automatic functions. Image quality seems very nice, low light performance very good, and the lens is bright and seems sharp to me so far. Automatic white balance is rather off sometimes, but otherwise no complaints about image quality. The lens range of 24-75 is reasonable, and I really like the wide angle and macro capabilities, but a slightly longer zoom would have offered more versatility and for me would make it better suited for general travel photography and people shots.I love the aspect ratio switch. Camera is compact, but not too small so it's easier to hold than some competitors' while still being reasonably pocketable. Manual controls are good and touchscreen is a useful addition. WiFi connectivity and integration with the smart phone app is also quite a neat update, although setup can be a bit fiddly.I don't use video so can't really comment on the video quality. I did however experiment with some of the 4k photo options for post-processing, but frankly they seem like a rather useless gimmick to me because image resolution is limited.I drop one star because of my disappointment with the EVF (electronic view finder). While it's certainly usable and it displays a lot of useful information, the quality of the EVF image, particularly when panning, doesn't match that of the latest cameras from other brands. I actually thought the EVF might be faulty when I first used it, but it seems the problem is the technology used. Such a shame Panasonic didn't go for a class leading large OLED EVF. Although of less concern to me, I know the lack of a tilt screen will also be disappointing to some. The camera seems pretty robust, but I would really have liked weather and dust sealing because my previous LX cameras died when dust got in and speckled the LCD and jammed the zoom lens. For a take-everywhere camera weather and dust sealing would have been a huge bonus. Apparently Panasonic have made some changes to improve performance in this regard, but will have to use it for a while to test this.I've been waiting a long time for this camera to replace my previous LX camera, and in the interim have been using a good smartphone as my take-everywhere camera and have become used to slick user interfaces, amazing post-processing capabilities, and beautiful large OLED screens. Going back to a "real" camera now it is lovely to have higher quality images and the many manual controls and a good zoom capability. However, I now find the menus on the LX100M2 somewhat clunky in comparison, and the 3-inch screen seems awfully small for displaying settings, composing shots, checking focus points and reviewing images, etc.If only the EVF were better on the LX100M2 I would use it all the time in preference to an LCD screen for a much more engaging photography experience.Overall it is a great little camera, and you can't go too far wrong by choosing it, but it is expensive, and I can't help feeling disappointed that Panasonic didn't go a little further at this price point, particularly after waiting 4 years since the initial LX100 launched. If it had a top class EVF I would wholeheartedly recommend this camera. As it is, I hesitate, and would suggest perhaps holding out for a MkIII if you aren't in a hurry, or considering some of the excellent competition. Nonetheless, despite the niggles, if you really want the combination of compact size, large sensor, quality images and low light performance, and extensive manual controls, there isn't anything quite like it on the market today.

Early 2019: This camera has loads of settings and foibles, there's no point reviewing it a couple of days after receiving it!!!November 2019: now I've had it for some months, I feel I can comment. Obviously, this is an expensive large compact, but it's worth it if you want an all purpose quality 'from the hip' camera. Some caveats: 1) needing to attach a flash is a pain. 2) 'half-frame' chip gives much less depth of field than the camera algorithm accounts for on auto settings. To combat this, I use f8 instead of auto aperture when there's enough light. 3) Using RAW limits tele to 75mm equivalent -but using jpeg allows very effective digital extension to 150mm. I find this my standard carry-about setting.4) Investing in a permanent hinged lens cap is well worth it, given the camera's price, it should be what it's supplied with. 5) fit a low profile uv filter. The lens protrudes more than you might expect. Deep filters can interfere with a hinged lens cap, so be careful! 6) Buy spare batteries. Shooting with this thing is such a pleasure that it's easy to use up the battery. Flash and endless reframing/zooming will take its toll too. 7) the anti-shake is great, I tend to leave it on. 8) I use the plus/minus dial a lot to compensate for light/dark subjects -it's a good idea to stick a brightly coloured piece of tape on the "plus" side so you can see at a glance whether exposure compensation is engaged. 9) use the eyepiece viewfinder whenever possible, you will find the camera can be held steadier and you can more quickly frame shots. So, if you can afford it, and you will carry it around -it will knock spots off the best mobile phone.

I purchased this camera as I wanted a compact with good low light capability. I use it for landscapes, portraits and street photography. The image quality is very good and it feels like a very small DSLR in many ways. The zoom is quite short when compared with many compacts. But the F1.7 aperture Leica lens and 4/3-inch sensor do make a difference in lower light conditions when compared with the average compact.

Excellent camera, great quality pictures. Very good low-light ability, but also does well in strong light. The ability to make manual adjustments to the exposure settings, even after the camera has made an automatic selection gives great options for creative photography.

The photos from this camera are really high quality, and being able to adjust all the parameters gives you total control. I would highly recommend this camera.
