The Panasonic TZ90 is ideal as a travel compact but should not be compared to larger sensor DSLR's and CSC cameras that use much larger sensors. In bright conditions outdoors the camera behaves very well, focusing is pretty quick and results using low ISO's are very respectable. However, dark conditions make a huge difference and focusing is compromised, often bleeping to confirm focus when it hasn't.The camera has four buttons that can be configured as function buttons (Fn), it also has a further five that can be configured on the touch screen, very useful. The zoom range of 24mm - 720mm is very useful and results are quite acceptable at all focal lengths. Activate the digital zoom and this increases to a mind boggling 2880mm,I have not seriously tried this focal length. The viewfinder is a little 'tunnel visionish' but is useful when bright sunlight restricts use of the rear screen. Handling is reasonable with a small grip for the right hand and for it's size the camera is quite robust which helps handling. As a user of large DSLR's and smaller CSC's it is a complete contrast to these types of cameras, especially if, like me you have very large hands, however, handling is acceptable. Charging is done in camera which can be a problem if you need to use the camera so I purchased a spare battery and already owned a multi charger which can be configured to most batteries. In summation I would suggest that the TZ90 is a very reasonable camera so long as you accept the limitations of any compact with a small sensor. The tilting rear screen is also useful for waist level shooting and can be used for selfie's. All in all, not bad at all.Read full review...

I recently bought a Canon Ixus 285 for travelling with (my DSLR kit will be too heavy for the flights!) but it proved to be a very disappointing purchase. I bit the bullet and opted for the TZ90, having previously owned a TZ5 which served me well on a trip to Australia some years ago. The feature list has grown since then and I've yet to get to grips with some of them, but so far this is shaping up to be a much better purchase than the Canon. All the usual camera modes are there (aperture/shutter priority, etc) and once you get used to the controls for them the results aren't bad. There's a stack of fun, creative stuff in there too, such as a touch up feature for selfies - although it didn't do very well on my face (a professional would struggle too though!). As with all small sensor cameras, image quality suffers when the lighting is low, but it fairs much better than the Canon and I've managed to fix a few images to my satisfaction in editing software. The TZ90 also has wifi functionality and Panasonic offer the Image App for smartphones - just the thing for those folk who want to share images quickly on social media. All in all, although more expensive than the Ixus 285, the TZ90 is much better value for money - a feature rich camera producing better quality images, and still with a 30x optical zoom for when you can't get physically close enough to your subject.

This is a 'refurbished' camera but all functions seem to be working well and was £100 cheaper than 'new'. There are very few zoom compact models available with both a flip-up screen and a viewfinder. The Sony is very (very) small but this is just right. There are a myriad of functions and it will take dedication to be able to utilise them quickly when required. But the main settings are accessed from the dial for point-and-shoot or for manual setting of speed and aperture. The large zoom is useful too with a tripod or bean bag required for the high end.First job was to buy a suitable case. I settled on a hard case which splits with a zip down each side allowing withdrawal of the camera from one end by the wrist-strap (always use a wrist-strap).Picture quality is good, as is the focus and exposure. For bright light conditions the viewfinder is essential and works OK except that the dioptre-adjustment wheel cannot be operated with your eye to the viewfinder! Close up photos are also good. Overall, this is ideal for those who wish to carry a camera at all times and prefer not to use the smart phone for the more creative shots.Read full review...

This camera not to my taste despite it's obvious advantages. The touch screen is finicky to use and the icons are suited to tiny fingers (mine are small sausages) but this is a personal view only. It is all too easy to accidentally activate a different programme. Unfortunately there is no way to deactivate the touch screen so you have to live with the slightly shortened monitor screen whose left hand side includes the touch screen arrow/pointer and fn icon.OK these are my personal likes/dislikes and are subjective. The camera initiates extremely quickly and both picture and uhd video are excellent.Spare batteries and charger are fairly easy to source from other sites. Menu layout is typical Panasonic, easy to read in substantial depth. Overall a good mid priced compact if touch screen cameras are your cup of tea. I'll stick to my phone for this feature thank you.Read full review...

Only had the camera around 2 days, but had a good play. It's very well built and feels a premium camera. It's a little bigger than a usual compact but don't let that put you off. The thumb grip and setup of the camera make it very easy to hold. The touch screen is very responsive and the tilt function is a nice feature when taking angled shots. The features of this camera are brilliant, I have an SLR and wanted something portable for holidays and comparing some of the pics, there's not a lot of difference.Would highly recommend and it's a great purchase for anyone needing a decent travel cam. (Sorry can't comment on battery life as not used it too much just yet,but it's still reporting a full charge after 2/3 hours of use).

Although refurbished camera looked brand new. So far really pleased and takes good photos. Quite a lot of features to learn. Like the auto mode, can also choose different scene and filter options. 4K is good although you need a memory card with UHS speed class 3. Camera feels sturdy and hope that it lasts a long time and have no problems with the lense. So far after spending an afternoon at a zoo testing it out really pleased. Sometimes hit record instead of off switch but not a problem as being a digital camera can delete any videos done by mistake. Easily delivered as opted to pick up from DPD depot.

Too soon as only arrived today but just be aware there are no english instructions from this seller. Excellent book available for this model but will cost you about£18. Spare Lumix batteries about £40. (cheaper available but can be poor). i have other Lumix models so am familiar with the controls but really some instructions would have been nice. Possibly get something from Panasonic UK for free??? worth a look. Otherwise I am sure this camera will be great. I like Panasonic. Only 4 stars because of lack of paper.

Bought this camera in the hope that the 'flip screen' would help combat not being able to see the screen well when out in daylight - and to a degree it does help.Camera itself is absolutely fine, takes good quality images as you'd expect. But like most technology nowadays its full of a ridiculous amount of junk settings that only serve to make it more time consuming finding those you're ever likely to want / use.Instructions say memory card "optional". Try using it without one though!

Bought for my partner who likes taking lots of photos, it's definitely better than her iPhone 8 for image quality. Not as compact as I had expected but not huge either, it does fill the gap nicely between her DSLR camera and phone. Initially some of the images taken were a bit naf' but after a bit of messing with settings we found 'ia' (intelligent auto) produces consistently good images.

I dont normally leave a review, but i am impressed with this camera. I bought this 3 weeks ago to go on walking holiday. I am point and shoot novice photographer, i dont normally use all the functions that a camera offers (stick too Ai mode) but with the DC-TZ90EB-s Lumix i am having fun learning from instruction manual. From a fully charged battery i took approx 200 photos.

I absolutely love this camera. It is easy to use as a simple point and shoot, and has many other settings and fuctions I have yet to master. The long zoom is brilliant for nature/bird pictures, which is why I chose it. The grip feature on the front makes it easy to hold. And the battery seems to be good, but I've not used much yet, as I am waiting for my forthcoming holiday.

I bought mine 2nd hand with a slight fault with the screen hinge but it doesn't affect my use.So, starting off as a bargain, I didn't have massive hopes but it is really excellent.I use it mainly for nature photography and I love that it can lock onto a flying bird. The video quality is really good too. Can't fault it, even with the fault!

I’ve only had the camera a couple of weeks and already love it. It’s quite easy to use for someone who’s not particularly technical minded. I found uploading the photos to my phone and iPad quite straight forward. I’ve already taken some wonderfully clear, sharp and quality pictures.I can’t wait to take it on our next family holiday.

15.3.2018

For myself there is one thing missing and if was made clear I may not have bought this camera. The missing function is the ability to download pictures direct from camera to my computer, using a USB cable without the need to remove the picture card from camera. The workings of the camera are so far good and long may it stay.

The best camera in terms of size, usability and picture quality. The best for travel. The best zoom - spectacular.I do own specialist cameras that I tend to only take on holiday if I’ve got room for all the kit/lenses etc - they are better for night shots, speed, sport but they take a lot of room in luggage.
