Picked up some Oster PowerMax clippers about a week ago when we decided to shave our dog after he acquired a bunch of ticks on a hike. We were having trouble finding them all and decided it was time to opt for a shorter summer cut. Initial cut was done with the size 10 blade that came with the clippers and a plastic snap on comb from another clipper set. It worked but was difficult and the results were pretty uneven, especially anywhere that his hair was thick.Bought this blade to even things and out and just used it for the first time last night and I am quite impressed with the results. While we are still new to doing this our dog is very calm and content to be clipped,so I was confident using this blade even though it does have a higher risk of nicking the dog than a finishing blade. Although it still slows down some in thick areas this blade left a much more even result, took less time, and his coat is much shinier and better looking than it was when we finished the first time. It's also a great length. Long enough that he doesn't look "shaved", just like he is a shorter coated dog. Short enough that we should easily be able to locate any ticks. And as an added bonus he now dries in 30 minutes instead of 3 hours, so we are much more willing to let him go swimming (which he LOVES). This blade also did not seem to get hot nearly as quickly as when we were using the 10 blade + comb.Keep in mind that you will need a different blade to handle lower legs and feet, and that you need to be VERY careful if you take this blade anywhere near the armpit or flank areas. We have other, smaller, clippers that I use for these areas, so that was not a problem for me. While this blade is great, it is simply not a do-it-all blade.

Love these blades with my Oster A5 Turbo. They work perfectly and slice through the hair of my dogs better than the standard #10 blade that comes with the clippers. I have Cocker-Spaniel-Poodles and they have somewhat long hair that can get matted/tangled pretty easily. These babies cut right through the hair. I will say on thicker matts though you will have to get the blade just right or switch it out for the #10 due to the teeth being slightly longer on these 7F's. These blades have cut my grooming time in half which is about 4 hrs total (1hr per dog on average - 4 dogs total). The blades do heat up like any other blade and pretty fast (within the first 20-30 minutes of use)so be sure to get the Blade Cooling Spray or if you just oil them just be sure to let them sit for a while (I usually let mine sit in front of a fan so the whole mechanism cools down before using them again.) These blades also leave the hair just long enough - cutting with the grain of my dogs hair - for them to be safe in the sun (luckily they are inside dogs and don't spend too much time outside.) So if you have medium to long haired dogs these would definitely be the blades for you but the best case scenario would be to have at least 2 of each blade due to the fact that they dull and you will eventually need to get them sharpened but if you do have two of the same you can just swap it out and prolong the frequency of your sharpening them.

I was almost about to click on the "One Click Order" button for a brand new set of clippers, when my wife suggested we try ordering a new set of blades for our Oster A5.We have a small pack of mixed breed dogs, one of which is an 8 year old Queensland Heeler who I swear is part otter - her fur and undercoat are so thick it's crazy. The little girl was miserable given the heat wave we're going through here in the Southwest and her fur was a mess with little bits of pine sap she always seems to get stuck to.The new blade arrived exactly as promised within two days and we wasted no time trying it out on our pup that very night. We were absolutely amazed at how easy the new blade cut through her dense fur.We had her completely body clipped within 40 minutes, and that includes taking a short break to let the new blade cool before we tackled her tummy area.My wife and I were both very pleased with this product (as was Kylie the Queensland Heeler who ran around the house and yard for 15 minutes showing off her new "do" to the other dogs). This $20 gamble paid off big time. We're so glad we didn't spend all that extra money on a brand new set of clippers.

The dogs: mixed breed pound puppies, now adults, about 37 pounds. One with a hair coat similar to a Golder Retriever; the other similar to a Brittany.I have about 5 different Oster blades but none seemed to really work well when cutting off their winter coats. So I tried this one. It hasn't been off my clipper since I bought it. If you're just a dog owner that wants to keep your dog looking decent this is probably the blade for you. It cuts off thick winter coats easily and does a pretty decent job of trimming although I use barber scissors around the ears.If you're only going to own one blade this should probably be it. Oster makes a myriad of blades that all cut a little differently.You should consult their chart before buying a second blade to make sure you get the one specifically appropriate for what you might want to do. Some of their blades are designed for use on specific dog breeds.I once raised sheep and sheared them myself. You might want to bear this in mind as you weigh my comments.

We were at wits end trying to cut our mini goldendoodle's hair with the 3F. Even with brushing and washing him, he constantly gets knotted up and it was taking us 3+ hours to cut his hair because we kept having to stop and carefully scissor out knots so the 3F could get through, and in many sections the clippers just couldn't make it with the 3F or even the very short 7F that came with the clippers. We were about to give up on cutting his hair ourselves and this blade was our last shot.I won't call this blade a miracle, but it makes cutting his hair doable. I was fantasizing that this would be like shearing a sheep in 10 minutes, but it still takes us about 45 minutes to cut his hair every month.That said, this blade can make it through probably 95% of what we were scissoring before. There's still a few spots that we have to scissor, but WAY less than before. I would highly recommend this blade to anyone else struggling with the 3F.

Bought an Oster A5 clipper and it came with a #10 blade. I needed to use the guide combs since my dog is double-coated and very long. My friend (who is a groomer) told me I needed to use a #40 blade if I was going to use the guide combs...the guides do not work well with a #10 blade. The 40 blade is fantastic! It took me over 2 hours to get the job done and the blade was still cutting like new. I also used the Kool Lube spray as necessary, to keep the blade a good temp. My dog is not "professionally" groomed by any stretch, but he looks good and feels even better. Also, he loves lying on his side and letting me "massage" him with the clippers. He only stands up for the finishing touches on his tail and legs.I also bought a 5F and a 7F blade for finishing touches and his tummy. The #10 blade I use for his paws, top and bottom. The whole outfit is fantastic and was purchased from Amazon! Thanks Amazon! A must buy!!!

I got my blade in yesterday just as Amazon estimated. I immediately used it on my son's Golden-doodle. I have been using a 4F blade and this one leaves the hair a little longer so the poor pooch isn't quite so bald. I got most of the torso of the dog done when he made a leap and I dropped my clippers and broke off the corner of my new blade. I wasn't sure about the skip tooth aspect of this blade, but it seems to leave a slightly less even cut when going with the grain of the hair than my 4F does on this dog, but very nice even length if clipping against the grain - just as the 4F does. I think it will work even better on my Standard Poodle. It may be a little easier to break this blade,but that was my pretty much my fault. I am back on the computer ordering another one now and figuring it will more than pay for both blades if I can get two big dogs clipped - hopefully several times.

We provide a sanctuary for abandoned and rescued dogs of all breeds and sizes, so grooming is an ongoing chore. As no professional groomer has volunteered her/his time to us, we have to muddle along as best we can!The 8 1/2 size blade is our go to size blade. For long haired dogs, it lets us leave a nice length on the body, legs and head that is still easy to brush between cuttings. We usually us about a 30 on the feet, and maybe a 10 or 15 if a dog comes in badly matted.Oster blades have always worked well for us. Texasman is proficient at taking the blades apart, cleaning them and adjusting the tension, though he hasn't wanted to get a sharpener and learn to sharpen them yet.I have blades that have been sharpened numerous times and they still work well. I recommend them without reservation.

I use this #3 skip blade when I am grooming my large golden doodles. They have thick curly hair and I use the #3F blade for most of their body, however in certain areas like around the lower neck area especially on the sides, their hair is really thick and this #3 skip blade goes through that area really fast where the #3F sometimes bogs down some. The blades on the Oster clippers swap off and on so easily. After I finish with the really thick areas I go over the area again with the #3F finishing blade. The cool lube keeps the blades from heating up also. The #3 blades give my dogs a nice summer cut without making them looked scalped which I don't want. I always use the clippers on clean, dry,combed through dogs and using the clippers cuts my time in 1/2 from doing the all scissor cut.

I have an woolly coat husky - the inner coat is much finer and longer (and curled when wet) than the standard husky hair (dense double coat). I've given my husky a haircut in Spring through Fall for the last 7 years. Some times his hair became extremely tangled and matted, esp. over the winter, and this #50 blade works the best (among I've used: #7, #7F, #10, and #50 so far) for matted hair.This is surgical blade, so this cuts too short for summer shearing, but if your dog's hair is very dense and matted, you won't have other choice.I've tried those blade guards (http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00513G9P6 ), but they didn't work on my husky's hair.If the hair is not so matted,I'd prefer to use #10 (usually comes with the clipper) to protect the skin from the strong UV-ray in my region.

Every now and then, my two yorkie-poos need a little touch-up grooming in-between trips to the "beauty shop." I FINALLY broke down and bought this after trying to make do with just a #5 blade (a little longer cut) and a #10 Finishing Blade with clip-on plastic guides.There's absolutely NO comparison between using the "right blade for the job" and just doing your best with plastic guides. These metal teeth cut through hair safely with no hanging or tangling & the best part is there are no more "blade guides" to re-adjust or slip. These even work well around their faces.It's easy to change blade sizes (I also bought the CryogenX #5 about a year ago).This blade is compatible with both my Oster (

This works great for my OsterMax clippers of 7 years old. I just add a little oil and start clipping my 13 year old Shih/tzu/pomeranian mix. He does not have the thick Pom hair, so I cannot say for that, but also does not have primarily the Shih/tzu hair, really a mix between the two and this works great. I trim his body with a 10 and he is short enough for the summer months and in the winter, I wait every 3 months to shave him, but have always used a 10 and it's fine. My mom has siblings to my dogs and she uses a 7, but has to shave more frequently. I have purchased probably 4-5 over the years because I cannot find a decent blade sharpener person and will keep buying this until he passes.

Just got it last week and i've used it many times. I have an oster A5 trimming machine and with this blade it works as perfect as i expected. I'm a veterinarian from nicaragua and we cannot get this stuff here so i used to get the cheap ones from supermarkets and they didn't lasted long. Now that i met oster blades i think i'm not going to change.I know nothing about grooming, i use this to clear hair from surgery place or clear hair around injuries or whatever medical procedure that needs aseptic conditions and it's working perfectly. In fact i'm planning to get a couple more to keep them here at the clinic if the one i have brokes up.Recommended for veterinarians!!

I bought this to cut the thick hair of my Pompom. Works perfect going through the thick coat. It is a tad shorter than I wanted ( my Pompom loves it though ) but that is my fault. The only drawback that I can tell is that if the hair is longer than say 2" one might need to "trim down" the dogs coat before using this blade as it did not want to go through 4" hair for any reason. Again, though since I am not a professional, it may be just my learning curve. Blade temperature did not seem to hot to me or to my beloved pet. Compared to the generic blade I was using before, this blade is wonderful, and now both me and my Pom will look forward to the "summer shave" time.

We have 2 large Labradoodles, & I have tried all sorts of blades. After doing some more research I discovered that using a skip tooth blade might really help. Several groomers forums recommended the skip tooth, but did emphasize the need to be careful with this type of blade, as it is easier to cut your dog. I have not found anything that works as well on these heavy coated dogs & am so glad that I went ahead and tried a skip tooth vs. the fine blades I was using. I plan on adding more sizes to my blade collection! The cryogen also stays cooler, but it would be nice to have 2 blades so you can change when one gets hot.
