I bought this bag based on a number of reviews I had read on Amazon and having watched a ton of YouTube videos videos whilst on holiday .Having read them I stared at my bright orange wheeled suitcase and wished I had the Farpoint 40 instead of my wheelie. Once again I had packed too much and didn't wear half the clothes which I had packed. Getting on and off ferries were also a nightmare as we moved twice during our stay in Greece and on one occasion the ramp into the ferry was so steep I thought I would lose my luggage, it was a real trial for me. I ordered the backpack on the penultimate night of my stay and received notification from he seller almost instantly. They kept me informed when the backpack was to be delivered and I had the option of collecting it from a local store rater than missing the delivery service as I was still flying back home.Once I received the backpack I got it home and set about packing it for my next trip in October. Determined to pack only the essentials I did so and lifted the pack by the side carry handles , it felt great , not bulky , not heavy. I hen used it as a backpack and again it felt great, very comfortable, very portable.I have not used a backpack since I left university and was a little wary about looking like an elderly student at 52yrs but having worn the pack around the house, having carried it as a bag , having posed with it , I have no regrets about my purchase. it is a little pricey but I managed to get this one at a good price, the grey was available from a sport shop not a million miles away from me but I plumped for the red so I can easily be spotted carrying/wearing it and it is less likely to be. Is taken for someone else's pack .I was delighted with the delivery time and the minimalist packing, just a plastic exterior bag and a plastic interior bag. I have yet to register the bag at Osprey but that's on my to do list as the bag , as you may know, has a lifetime guarantee.I would recommend this seller and this item.I will do a further review once it mam back from my next trip in a few weeks time

For maximum carry on board commercial flights, often with size limitation or up to 40 litres in volume you may want to consider this. Some good points. For some reason, especially with turbo prop aircrafts, the airlines tend not to allow passengers to carry on wheeled luggage even if within size limitation and same size as this back pack, but do allow passengers to carry this pack with them. (Definite prejudice I'd say.) As weel as shoulder harness, this has wasit belt to transfer some load to the hops. To prevent tangles, these can be zipped up & out of the way - good idea when you are made to check-in this bag as you wouldn't want the straps to get caught and rip the bag in converyor systems.Zip pullers are interlocking to allow you to put a small padlock. It won't stop a bag slasher but may deter cabin sharer to open you bag should you work on board ships and share cabins with other crew for example.Bad points. Laptop section is furthest away from the wearer. This not only unbalances the pack but makes wearer less aware should there be a bag snatcher stealing the laptop. The net posckets are in a bad position if you want to carry 500ml water bottles in them. These two net pockets are difficult to use when the pack is full and especially difficult if you have packed the laptop in the section Osprey designed because the botttles would b hard up against the stiff surfaces of the laptop (the sections are back to back to each other). I would prefer the net pockets to be located to the sides. At full price, the Farpoint is having to compete hard with packs of better design inclusing the Farpoint Wheels 36.

I needed a new bag for short work trips and commuting, my old leather bag was starting to hurt my shoulder as it was a single strap bag - it was time for a bag I could carry on both shoulders, and ideally one with a hip strap for bigger journeys. After much research and seeing very expensive kickstarter projects with great designs, I found this. Not stupidly expensive, but seemed to tick all the right boxes for me.The first test - would it fit my 15.6 inch Laptop? Yes, it fits perfectly. You wouldn't be able to get a bigger one in, this is defiantly the maximum size. The Laptop pouch is nicely padded and doesn't waste space. The pouch is in the front section of the bag,so my only complaint there is that with a full main section the weight isn't going to be int he best position, BUT the straps are so comfy and you have waist straps, so I don;t imagine it will matter too much.Carrying - I've never had so many carry options on a bag, top handle, side handle, shoulder straps, waist strap and a single long shoulder strap! The shoulder and waist straps store nicely in a zipped pocket, so you can carry the bag neatly using just the other handles.Overall quality is great, it feels sturdy, the zips work well and feel high quality. The full package just feels well thought out.Room - For basic commuting I haven't even needed to touch the main compartment! The main compartment could easily fir a few days travel wear in it with my laptop and other stuff in the front. this bag is going to be my go to bag for pretty much all trips now.Very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this bag a few weeks ago on Blacks.co.uk as I needed a bag big enough that I could safely carry up to a 15inch macbook pro and enough clothes to last a few days if not more. The laptop compartment is above the ground so will protect the laptop nicely. This one came out top for my needs. The bag looks black in the image provided by suppliers but is actually more a dark green as you might see in the pictures which makes sense given the light green on the inside.I found that the laptop fits nicely in the soft compartment and room for an ipad too.The main compartment is good for travelling and storing clothes or gym stuff.I have only used this for gym and swim stuff and plenty of room to spare.I will be able to try this out with travelling in May and looking forward to it.The chest and hip straps are great for balancing the weight on your back but cannot be hidden when using straps are out.You can also carry this bag when the straps are hidden which is a nice touch.Downsides:- Front pocket is tight when the bag is full so this should only be used for a few items that are small you need to access.- Laptop compartment when full is a tight squeeze but if only using for the laptop and ipad/notepad then this wont be much of a problem.- Laptop compartment seems to bunch up when using the laptop - so not tight wrap around. Likely like this for then the bag is full.Overall: Love the bag and works wonders for carrying all your stuff and balancing weight on your back correctly. Also: The Almighty Lifetime Guarantee is always a plus.

If you've had enough of heavy luggage and are looking for a way to simplify air travel, this is a great solution. I find that I can carry everything I need for 4-5 days without exceeding either the weight limits or the restrictive dimensions of the budget airlines. If there's a washing machine where you're going, much longer trips are also possible. I have no trouble keeping the weight below 10 kg and can confirm that, as long as you don't over-pack and use the built-in cinch straps, it satisfies even Flybe's cabin luggage requirements (55cm x 35cm x 20cm). The design makes the logistics of air travel so much easier. I wear it as a backpack most of the time, packing the straps away when the moment comes to check in or to board the plane. Being able to carry everything on your back means you can be much quicker on your feet when negotiating queues or on public transport, with the added bonus that you have both hands free. It is comfortable to wear, even when full and for relatively long periods. I would recommend the additional use of packing cubes and, if you don't want to use it as a day sack once you arrive at your destination, the addition of the Osprey Ultralight Stuffpack, which folds down to something like the size of a small orange and weighs almost nothing but opens up into a very usable bag complete with water bottle holder (essential for hot climates).

I have been researching for bags for a good week to find a perfect bag to go on nice weekend trips around Europe & general camping. I found that the Osprey line had good reviews, and so it did! It's absolutely fantastic! I was also researching the higher capacity bags on the Osprey line but contacted Osprey directly and they recommended me this since it's ideal for using as cabin luggage. My back was also struggling from my previous back pack, well no more! This has shoulder straps, waist strips & easily adjustable for nice comfortable walking. If you're thinking of getting a higher capacity, there is a chance you may get charged extra at the airport. But, trust me, this bag will do more than enough! There are straps inside the bag to hold your clothing/items down so they don't move while in transit. It's a durable bag, also the zips allow padlocks on them for extra security of which I would recommend. Overall for the price its a bargain! If you're thinking of what size to buy, if you contact Osprey you can have a PDF file which tells you the ideal height for the sizes instead of using the dedicated app they have. I bought S-M and i'm 5ft 7 (170cm) and it fits like a charm. I would suggest to go a size up if you are over 177cm. But please do not hesitate! Please see the image for sizing instructions!

I bought this to use on 2-4 day trips, for both work and short holidays. It's a proper tough backpack, disguised as a holdall - the style is not corporate or business-like, it is more functional in a low-key way. When used as a backpack, the straps are super comfortable and the bag sits high on the shoulders just like a real backpack. As a holdall the backpack straps hide away into a zip pocket and you can use the grab handle, which is strong and easy to carry. A detachable shoulder strap is included but I never use it - it is flimsy compared to the rest of the bag and feels like an afterthought. There is a big central pocket with adjustable restraints inside, and several useful zipped flat sleeves and zipped mesh pockets.I don't really like the luminous green interior, but I find it does make everything easy to see inside. Some of the volume of this bag is taken up by the hideaway backpack straps, and you can get other cabin backpacks that hold more stuff and look a bit smarter. If you're going straight from the plane to a taxi, maybe this bag is overkill, however I've never had a cabin bag as comfortable and sturdy as this one for carrying all my gear on my back for long periods.

I battered the hell out of this rucksack, travelling the globe nonstop last year. It was my only bag. I did hand luggage only the whole time and I got this through on every flight apart from one. (circa 40 flights)Worked perfectly for me. Tough as hell. As you can imagine, travelling hand luggage only for year is quite a challenge. I had packing down to a fine art, but it had to endure serious compression on the straps/zips and didn't miss a beat. My Macbook Air and photography equipment remained unscathed. I'm off hiking / camping up the mountains in Snowdonia tomorrow so it will get used in rucksack mode where its extremely comfortable and fully supportive. Its endured the Rockies in the snow at -30 to the Amazon, tropical beaches, deserts at 45 degrees, motorbike trips across S.E Asia etc etc. I've no idea how but it still looks brand new!I researched rucksacks tirelessly before i left....this is the one to get. I can't imagine it will ever make use of its life time guarantee. 10/10

Brought this on a 3 month backpacking trip that included constant moving from place to place. This bag was very easy to carry and had great supports so did not cause any back problems. Fits into most EU hand luggage requirements, but be wary that in some parts of the world ( southeast asia) the carry on allowance can be smaller and thus the bag may need to be checked in ( usually at a low cost). The different compartments were very helpful and the way the bag opens is ideal for easy access to belongings.3 months of hauling through sometimes difficult conditions caused no visible wear and tear which was a big plus.Would suggest combining packing cubes to maximise space allocation and organisation on this My travelling companions often had larger baggage but I found that it was unnecessary and that the majority of places will have cheap and easy laundry facilities so there's no real need for more than a week of clothes. All in all, would highly recommend.

Bought this bag for a trip to India. My biggest priority, except packing space, was security. There are many bags out there with lockable zips, but most if not all of these bags leave the zips/locks on display; basically advertising to thieves you have something worth stealing! This bags external packing straps/clips have flaps that cover the zips and padlocks on both the main compartment and smaller front laptop area (the smallest top front pocket is not covered nor lockable). This means I can padlock my valuables in the bag without advertising to the thieves that I have done so!The ability to pack away the backpack straps I thought would be a little useless, but it’s actually so helpful when you’re on a plane as the straps are flapping all over the place and snagging anything. Once unpacked, the bag is comfortble and stylish.

I bought this for a 6 weeks trip around S. E. Asia. I did a lot of research first and plumped for a different cheaper bag with a capacity of 60 litre. Big mistake. I filled it and realised how heavy and difficult it was going to be to lug it around. I then settled for the Osprey fair point 40 litre. I’m so glad I did. This bag holds a lot. It’s a brilliant bag, very strong and well made. It’s easy to get to things, has plenty of compartments and a pocket for a laptop. The straps all stow away inside if you would rather use it as a normal bag. I found it very comfortable to wear and I had plenty of space for all I needed in the trip.I have used it a few time since and hopefully for a long time to come. It’s a bit more expensive than some bags but well worth the extra. I am so glad I chose it.

I love this back pack. Definite plus that it is clam shell design, no digging around for your clothes. I use it camping and also weekends away.I am female and have the s/m size & fits me great, but also fits my husband who wants one too. Straps, chest strap fine and adjustable for us both.I love that it can be used carry on luggage.Only downsides: 1. laptop pocket is not closer to the back.2.Mesh 'water bottle' pockets are unusable when bag is fully packed. Perhaps just small item slipped in, like a map.3. Grey is definitely greenish. Lining is grey, bit boring but different colours are available now.4. This is not a Mary poppins bag. It's not a cavern inside, but holds enough for one person for a few days, not a bag thing, just pack carefully.Overall highly recommended!

Yet another good Osprey product.Watch the size if you are using this for hand luggage on planes. It is within KLMs size limit (just) when empty but overfill it and because it is a soft case it will get slightly larger.Air crew tagged it as ‘not guaranteed hand luggage’ even though check-in staff said it was fine. So it is on the cusp of being acceptable size. It fits in overhead storage without a problem. However it allowed me enough space to pack light enough that no hold luggage was necessary. A complete blessing which allowed me to get a connecting flight when a late arrival meant others with hold luggage were not so fortunate.Well made, comfortable to wear as a pack or carry in hand.Shoulder straps zip away to there are no loose straps flopping about.Love Osprey stuff.

All I have to say is that this is the ultimate one-bag, carry-on solution. If you like to travel efficiently and with minimal hassle, whilst exploring cities and even the countryside, buy this bag immediately.I own a number of carry-on bags designed to carry enough possessions for a week or so, and there are always sacrifices to be made - usually in the comfort of the straps, or indeed the style. Neither concessions need to be made on the Osprey Farpoint. This is a perfect size for a week, and is more than comfortable enough to be carried long-distance on your back, with very comfy shoulder and hip straps. The material is pretty tough and water-resistance,and the main flap opens the whole way so you can pack and unpack easily.I don’t fly anywhere without this bag.

This is a premature review because I have not used the rucksack for the purpose I got it for as of yet... but the bag came today (3 days early, to my delight), and first impressions are fantastic. I ordered S/M. The padded shoulder straps & waist strap are my favourite features because I'm a little worried about my load being too heavy for my physique (I'm a 5' female with strong legs but very little upper body strength). The compartments are roomy and secure, the linings are a lovely bright green colour which is a nice design, and the zipped cover to hide the straps is a great feature for keeping it tidy and compact. I'm really looking forward to travelling with the Osprey Farpoint 40 Backpack.I will post another review after my trip!
