Although I'm not a hiker that goes on long overnight hiking trips, I do enjoy frequent shorter hikes. I was happy to get this Osprey backpack to use for my hikes. I had heard of Osprey before this but didn't know much about them. Let me say this: they know how to make backpacks! This is the nicest backpack I've owned, hands down! I tested it out the last couple of days by going on a few snowshoe hikes with it. I loaded it with around 10lbs of gear, strapped on my snowshoes, started the hike mode of my Garmin Instinct, and off I went. After going on a few hikes and really looking the backpack over for a long time, here is what I think of the black Osprey Kestrel 48 (yes, I took notes!):1)It's very adjustable. It would take too many words to describe, but you can adjust almost every strap - that's awesome!2) The hip straps/cushions are comfortable, as are the shoulder straps. In fact, the pack is very lightweight and comfortable to wear. It didn't rub or hurt when I was snowshoeing through some pretty rough terrain.3) The rainfly is great: it's attached by a strap, has it's own storage pocket, and fits perfectly on the pack. I didn't use it (it was snowing, not raining!), but I'm quite certain it will work well.4) It's rugged. There's nothing cheap about this backpack.5) I love the various pockets, storage areas, hooks, and straps. I hung my sunglasses from one strap and my gloves from another. I could've strapped my snowshoes on the back if I wanted to!6) It's very hard to get a water bottle from the side water bottle pockets when the backpack is on. If you're hiking and have water bottles in the two side pockets, you'll struggle to get them out without taking the backpack off. NOTE: There is a nice spot for something like a camelbak water bag/straw.7) There are very nice zippered hip side pouches. However, they are just a little too far back, so reaching in them is a little struggle. You can do it, but you have to finagle a bit to zip/unzip and get something out of the pockets.8) There's no reflective material on the backpack. Not a pro or con, just a note.Anyway, if you want more info, do check out Osprey's website. They have a great video that tells you a lot of the features of this Kestrel 48L backpack. I'm not at all hyping this backpack - I really like it, am totally happy with it, and look forward to putting a ton of miles on it!

I really like the Osprey Kestrel 48 backpack. It is comfortable, well built, and thoughtfully endowed with many pockets and compartments to sort and store camping gear. It's not a cavernous canvas container where one can stash a week's worth of supplies, nor does it profess to be.The zippers, pockets, cords, and design are top notch. This pack is comfortable to wear, easy to adjust, and it seems, durable. The straps are padded and easy to adjust. You can access a water bottle, trail mix, map, or light quickly from the side mesh pockets. The lime green rain cover conveniently tucked into the bottom zippered compartment not only convey protection from the elements but increases visibility.Mypoint of comparison to this pack is a trusty old-school external frame Kelty Trekker 65 I picked up years ago on clearance. If I am setting out for a longer hike and need to bring more gear, the heavier, larger Kelty is my choice because I can attach a sleeping bag and bring more essentials.But the Osprey is more comfortable both in fit and form: it hugs one's body more snugly and is easier to keep balanced when climbing or scampering over rocks. There are fewer parts that will snag limbs, too. Perhaps a somewhat useful analogy might be that the Osprey is like a sports car in that it looks better, handles better, has more features and options; my older Kelty is like a truck in that is hauls more, is more rugged, but less flexible.For short trips, flights, spring-fall trips, I think the Osprey will be my go-to pack from now on, but the old warhorse, which is a cheaper up front investment, still has its place.

My friends are jelly over this bag. It holds SO much. More than you can imagine when you unload it. It's designed to fit towards my body, sort of aerodynamic, so it doesn't feel like a sack of bricks when I hike.Zippers are especially strong, stretch bands all over allow me to hook on (via carabiner clip) various things. Comfortable on shoulders.There are no pressure points when wearing it, even if it's packed full OR half empty.Looks good (as most Osprey items do). Easy to hang in campsite. Two big hikes (one 30 miles in one day) and no tears, stretched fabric, or anything wrong.Brilliant design.

This is a great pack for our teenager who is rough on their camping supplies. It fits him perfectly and is adjustable on the torso to help with having a growing child! I love that we can invest in a quality pack that will last him for years and not have to worry about growth spurts requiring us to buy a new one!The pack itself has a good amount of room for a weekend trip and spare pockets for all of those little things you bring along. The fabric is nice and thick and seems like it will stand up to pretty much anything! The zippers and clips all work well and it is comfortable to wear.

I own half a dozen backpacks, but this is by far the best pack i've ever worn. Truly outstanding. Super comfortable and it hugs your back beautifully. Very well made with plenty of space and some nice features throughout. I recommend you make sure what size you'll need. I needed a Medium, so i went for the M/L. Take a little time to adjust it properly to your back and you'll be thankful that you did. There are videos on YouTube that talk about how to properly fit a backpack to your size.

Not only does it weigh a lot less than my old pack but seems to have the same sort of capacity that I need and require. Apart from that it has many excellent features, such as for example a zipper going down the outside back of the pack allowing you to take out stuff at the bottom of the pack without having to take it all out from the top. It also has many side pockets and of course waist band pockets for the EDC gear. I am extemely pleased with it and will be using it on my next Camino.

This is my second osprey pack as I also have a Faraway 40 for light travel as carry on pack! I haven't got to use my Kestrel 48 yet as in covid 19 lockdown but the pack is ospreys usual great quality and robustness! I am looking forward to using it for over night wild camping treks in the future as it's a nice size and comfortable to wear! Although osprey is quite an expensive brand the quality is worth the money! I had no issues with delivery. Received on time without any trouble.

Love the bag, perfect for my needs. Can't go wrong with Ospray. Originally was sent the wrong bag. Called Backcountry's customer service and they took care of everything in 20 minutes. They even expedited the shipping so the bag I originally ordered was on my doorstep the next day. I was bummed when I got the wrong bag, but accidents happen, thats why I always appreciate a company with decent customer service. No problem shopping with them again.

Had Osprey Levity and after one hike swapped it out immediately for a Kestrel. Absolutely no regrets, other than wasting nearly £170 on the Levity (got torn on first hike). Kestrel is like a tardis with plenty of outer storage for quick to grab on the go items. Once harness is adjusted, all the weight of the pack disappears onto your hips making trouble free hiking and long distances a breeze.

I love this pack! It has the best features of my Kestral 32 and Volt 75. Great pack for long winter day hikes. Plenty of pockets, and the side zipper for the main compartment worked great! I was able to get the gear I needed when it was -10F quickly, without disturbing the other contents. And it’s very comfortable. Great pack!

This is a great backpack. I have the Osprey Aether 60. Got this as a spare for my son or as a lighter alternative for short overnight trips or longer day trips. Comfortable shoulder straps but the waist straps aren't as comfortable as the Aether's.

This bag is awesome. I hike to remote locations to Surf fish out on the east end of Long Island. This pack will handle my gear easily. It’s well built and designed to handle a lot of gear.

Couldn't get m/l in green anywhere else. This pack is a little heavier than some, but is tougher, has all the features I require and appears to be well made.
