Being a long time player of the PC version of this game, I had my doubts as to how a console port could possibly work. Well, it's safe to say that, a couple of rough edges aside, this is an excellent port of an incredible game. It's an incredibly deep, satisfying, challenging medieval RPG with an unsurpassed combat simulation. You are a lowly peasant, just trying to get ahead in life. There's no story as such, you are free to choose your own destiny. But every action that you take has consequences.Be a marauding terror, raiding every village in sight. Just don't be surprised when the Lords of those villages declare vendetta on you and hunt you to the very ends of the world.Embark on a quest to become king of your own country,or even emperor of the world! Just be ready for this to take quite a while.Be a merchant. Be a vassal. Look for love. Travel around joining tournaments. Help villagers. Buy a round of drinks for everyone in the tavern (yes, really). There's a lot to do, and that's just the RPG aspect.Combat, oh wow. This is, hands down, the most satisfying melee/ranged combat simulation that I have ever played, including Chivalry. The precise physics of your weapon swing are taken into account, with damage being inflicted at the precise points that your weapon sweeps through. If you happen to hit your opponent with the handle of your weapon, don't expect it to do much. You have daggers, axes (ranging from short hatchets to great big war axes), swords and scimitars of all descriptions, polearms (from the much maligned quarterstaff up to some really mean spears and axes), cleavers and even lances for when you want to get your joust on.For ranged combat, there is a wide selection: stones, many kinds of bow, crossbows, javelins, knives and darts. All of these model inaccuracy and drop.As you may have guessed already from the lances, you can ride your horse into combat. This is a whole new world of difficulty. Now you must consider your movement speed when timing your strike. Your horse has its own health and movement statistics and you can become unhorsed if you are not careful.Armour is just as diverse, covering footwear, body armour, helmets and gloves, and ranging from rags to chain mail. What I really enjoy about the combat is that every weapon is different and you will need to learn how to fight with each one. This can be made easier through the use of skill points, but you (the player) must still aim and time each strike correctly.Your character gains levels as you proceed through the game. These can be spent on all manner of skill points, as is typical of any RPG.There are six factions on the map and they're all quite different to each other. The map is almost a microcosm of Europe/Western Asia. You have two flavours of Viking up in the north, two kinds of European in the middle and south west, Mongol(ish) hordes in the East and a Middle Eastern faction living in the deserts in the south east. Each faction has a specialty, whether it's ranged combat, horseback riding, a particular style of melee combat or just generally being a good allrounder. You can recruit soldiers from every faction into your party and each soldier will level up individually with experience. Now, onto the bad:Graphics are not beautiful. They weren't cutting edge when the game first came out on PC and there's been, frankly, little improvement since. So don't expect to have your socks blown off by the visuals.Walls of text. Clunky, dense, not easy to get a quick handle on what's happening.Voice acting is so bad it's good - almost Men of War territory. The Sea Raiders are my personal favourite, sounding quite convincingly like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The attack control and camera view controls are on the same thumbstick. Also it's too easy to get into first person mode by accident. Can't rebind the controls. You're on a console, so no mods.Combat AI is sometimes really dumb. Don't let that make you complacent - it will still hand you your own backside on a platter until you learn how to fight. In conclusion:Haters gonna hate. Good RPG, amazing combat system, can play while sitting back and relaxing on the sofa. What's not to like? Buy it!

Really enjoying this game - I'd compare it to Sid Meier's Pirates but with a bit more depth and, of course, the medieval setting. I'm about 10 hours in and haven't found the controls problematic at all on PS4 although some of the menus are admittedly a little clunky. The autosave feature can appear to slow things down but not hugely. The tutorial was useful - it covers combat and riding, but all the other stuff you need to work out for yourself. If you've played similar games it's fairly intuitive - the inventory/trading menu feels similar to Diablo II/III and the map view definitely smacks of Sid Meier's Pirates to me.I find the combat really satisfying and after a few false starts I managed to get my head around the directional attack system.I'd perhaps like to see more mission availability and maybe more variety in missions, but I've not explored much yet so I'm sure that will come.As people have said, the graphics are of their time - a similar standard to Oblivion. However, I don't think that detracts from the game.I looked at this off the back of enjoying another PC-PS4 port which focuses more on the game than the graphics: 7 Days to Die. Obviously a very different type of game but I've found both similarly immersive and easy to pick up, despite their both originally being PC titles and despite the graphics not being amazing. As well as the games mentioned above, I'd recommend for fans of Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and, at a push, the Total War games.

Amazing game - You start off all by yourself and you have to recruit some soldiers from local villages to get on your way to building your army. There is no story with this game. You do as you please, pillage the country side and attack trade caravans, suck up to Nobels and become a lord. Or when the time is right rise up against the king and his lords and take their castle and declare yourself king. This game will take you ages to become king.Graphics are not pretty but game play is excellent.

A very good game this is definitely a good game which has slipped under the radar. Rpg with some battle tactics which I love hold your archers on the hill mound then let them lose their arrows when the enemy is close and charge down the hill on your steed with Lance aimed for the barron then after that draw your sword or axe mace and do some hand to hand combat. Great fun a really enjoyable romp. Well worth the £20

The game itself is absolutely great, build huge armies and wage war against the fantasy armies, the combat itself I love, and I love the RPG aspects of the game. It is a couple of years old (2010) so don't expect it to be a 2016 game. Everybody should watch a video on Mount and Blade Warband before purchasing as it wont be for everybody, but for many of you out there, this game is a must buy.

Excellent game, If you're half intelligent then this is is a simple game to play, easy control system, PS3 style graphics admittedly but then it is an older game, mixes strategy, RPG, and wargame. Recruit troops, build your army keep their morale up, join tournaments, court Ladies with poems, join a faction, siege castles, sell prisoners into slavery, what more could you want?

A pass-time of which I have spent over a thousand hours playing on PC finally rests between my palms as a hard disc version of my favourite game.Like anyone else I had my doubts about the port, but fear not my fellow crusaders for I assure that you'll be pleasantly surprised. This analogue clone excites my bone so waste not time and buy your own.
