Firstly the game installs via Steam, which will be significant if you are one of those who hates Steam with a passion. The original Mount and Blade was basically Pirates! (the original, not the Disney style remake) on horseback crossed with a miniature Total War. The player wandered the game world with your band of warriors fighting pitched battles on your horse and with your sword in what was basically a sandbox environment until you either got bored or conquered the world. The game is also incredibly moddable and there were and are a dedicated community of modders playing with it.Warband added more flesh to the bones of the game in the form of a little more story and slightly better and addeda really great fun multiplayer feature. If you have never played any Mount and Blade previously then it is a game where the player controls a hero in third person view (there is a first person view but it isn't really practical to play the entire game from it) and commands his army in battle (in a limited fashion) while fighting alongside them. Combat is carried out third person shooter style using the wasd keys to move and the mouse buttons and mouse to attack and block.Fire and Sword has a lot in common with the two earlier games - the basic set-up, Lords, wandering bandits, recruitable heroes etc are very similar - but in a few key respects there is a much larger change than between the original game and Warband. The game is set in 17th Century Eastern Europe and has two key features that are different from the two previous offerings.Firstly it has firearms, which add a fun element to battles. Guns are incredibly powerful, so you have to be very careful in how you attack enemies as a volley of Musket fire will take your character down very quickly. You have to be far more tactical in your approach, attacking from the flanks and rear while making sure as to target Musketeers first. I find this quite challenging and like having to think a little more as it adds a whole new aspect to battles.Secondly it has a plot and some structure, whereas the first two versions left the player almost entirely to his/her own devices in Fire and Sword there are a central plot that evolves through various quests. You can wander the world just fighting people if you wish but it is intended that you pay some attention to the story.Important points:The story is not fabulous, it revolves around reading lots of text - but I'm old so remember that as being a good thing - and there is very little (i.e virtually no) voice acting or characterisation to speak of.This game does not have super-shiny graphics so if that is a key part of your gaming requirements - and there is nothing wrong with that - you will probably not like this game. The visuals do seem improved over both the original and Warband but it is the same engine so don't expect much beyond the original graphics which were slightly dated on release in 2009.The Essence of Mount and Blade has always been that the battles and various political maneuvers are fantastic fun, and it remains that way. There is more added to the role playing environment in Fire and Sword but I still would not call the game an RPG as such. This is very much an action game.Fire and Sword should be treated as an expansion, which is how they are marketing it (it is standalone so you don't need any of the other games to play this), because it is not a new game, it is very much part of the evolution and improvement of Mount and Blade. It is a positive evolution but there is a lot taken directly from the earlier games - the price of course reflects this. I would say though that as an expansion this compares extremely favourably with the kind of expansions you get for games such as The Sims.If you haven't ever played Mount and Blade then I would recommend that you do because it is an innovative idea by an indie developer and it is just fantastic fun. I would certainly recommend Fire and Sword as the one to play as the influence of firearms adds a little more tension and excitement to battles and the slightly more fleshed out plot makes things easier. This is one of those games where you wish that Steam didn't track how many hours that you play for because they number ends up being absolutely huge.If you own the other Mount and Blades then it rather depends on whether the idea of firearms, a story of sorts and a slightly more tactical experience pique your interest. I personally am glad that I bought Fire and Sword because I really like the way that firearms change the way how you approach battles and it is nice to have a little more purpose to the adventure than in Warband.

Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword could be considered the first true sequel to the original Mount & Blade, considering it offers a new setting and a new period (Warband was just a great expansion pack). Unlike the original, Fire & Sword doesn't take you back to the fictional kingdom of Calradia, but instead to the real world of 17th Century Eastern Europe, as various factions fight for control of the land. You start out as an adventurer who helps out a band of French Musketeers, before setting off on your own. The set up is similair to the original Mount & Blade - get up on your horse, recruit a band of followers, raid enemy camps, and try to make a name for yourself. There's a number of factions you can join, from the Polish and Muscovites, to the Cossacks and Swedes - and each have their own styles - for instance the Kingdom of Sweden is heavy infantry centered, the Cossacks have plenty of light cavalry, etc.A major new addition to the game is that the battles are now centered around musket warfare. No longer will you be able to win a fight with just a good sword arm. This new style of fighting provides plenty of new challenges - and frustrations. Muskets take ages to reload, they run out of ammunition quite fast, they are very inaccurate, but when you do manage to make a hit they can be devestating - one bullet can take down an enemy. The down side to this of course is that it also applies to your character. One well aimed shot, and you've lost the battle. This can be particularly disheartening early on in the game when you have weak armour (or none at all), and you face a large force of musket and arquebus heavy troops. Enemy volleys can also decimate your own army, forcing you to go on long recruting hunts after large battles. This game, just like the original, can be quite cruel on beginners. In terms of production values, the game is largely unchanged. The Graphics have been given a very slight update, while there is still a lot of re-use of Mount & Blade's soundtrack, with just a few period specific songs having been added (mostly to the game's main menu). Some of the features from Warband are also sadly missing from this addition.Unfortunately, the game also has a few bugs. I was forced to play out the starting mission a few times as there was a glitch involving the French musketeers getting on their horses. Glitches like these can be very frustrating. Overall though, this is a fun game, but it's not as good as Mount & Blade: Warband. If your a fan of Pike & Shot warfare, then this game is probably the best third person battle simulator around - come to think of it - it's the only one around. If you prefer the Medieval period, and charging an armoured steed into a bunch of archers and Men-at-Arms, then you better stick to Warband.

I loved this game! i thought it was utterly brilliant, there was plenty of new factions and maps. The introduction of gun powder and muskets had up sides and downsides. The muskets are very fun to use and get u plenty of kill's, but their unfair on the faction's that do not not poses firearms. Also the 'Kingdom of Sweden' are far to advanced in comparison with the other factions. Not only do they poses most of the more powerful firearms such as muskets they also poses powerful pistols and RIDICULOUSLY GOOD BREAST PLATES. The Swedish armor makes it very hard to kill them when you have lesser weapons like swords and bows.An armored swede can easily receive 3-4 arrows in the chest before finally dying!But....the online facilities are brilliant there are many different battle types such as siege, death match, team death match and battle..... each lobby can hold plenty of players such as siege, where i have seen as much as 200 players in one match!. This creates a more realistic lively atmosphere for the players and really set's the scene for a 17th century siege..I was a bit disappointed with the graphics considering Mount and blade with F and S is a very new game

I remember when dated graphics first stopped me from even trying the first mount & blade title. I couldnt have done a bigger mistake. After buying the M&B Warband I kept going for hours and hours , I dont remember any other game sucking me in like that in a very , very long time. The way fighting is designed in this game gives the best medieval and in case of "with fire and sword" the best XVII century warfare simulator. The ability to gather your own army , attack enemy countries , take over their towns/castles , raid , pillage their villages and in case of "Warband" - Marry and create own kingdom , plus many more give a great sense of freedom and many possibilities in shaping the in-game world.Add a great multiplayer with sieges ,open field battles and huge mod community which does incredible things with this game and you've got a game that is a must-have.

Mount & Blade With Fire and Sword, is decent expansion. It also features a story-line, to be precise 3 story-lines.Also features a new multiplayer game-modes, maps, and so on.Not anything major to the multiplayer..I think that the campaign in WFAS is pretty good, and the multiplayer isn't anything new.But in my opinion, the gunpowders did sometimes ruined the whole M&B feel to it.I still enjoined it more then most people.I should also note that this product, comes with a nice M&B WFAS Wallpaper!

This game is really engaging and you can spend hours playing, you never get bored because there are always people to fight, and the task of getting money to but weapons, soldiers shields horses etc. The battles are quite hard but very entertaining. If you need money and you don't have enough soldiers to pillage a village then you can go to a mayor or lord and ask to do a job, i.e. deal with bandits, carry cargo to different towns etc.I would recommend this game as an excellent strategy game to anyone.

this game has rekindle my love for the game and for anyone who hasn't played the previous games this is a really game to get to hand with many you-tube videos etc don't give the game justice but it really is a great game where you can recruit your own army and march across eastern Europe laying waste to settlements
