I have always wanted to make soup but have been a bit overwhelmed by the process of it. This nifty gadget makes everything so simple! All you have to do is throw some chopped vegetables into it, add water to the fill line inside, add a stock pot (which are pretty cheap - I get 4 for £1 at my local supermarket) and then press a couple of buttons and you're off! There are different settings depending on how you like your soup, smooth or chunky and depending on your choice, the time to cook varies. I always choose smooth and it takes about 21 minutes. When I first got my soup maker it took me a few tries to get the perfect blend of ingredients to make it to my preferred taste but what I found wasyou could buy chopped soup mix bags at the supermarket for £1 so now I usually use those to save even more time and money. I throw in the better part of two bags for the perfect consistency and when it's done I have enough soup for about 3/4 bowls. I always freeze most of my batch once is finished for another day and the savings when compared the shop bought shop really adds up over time. Some people have mentioned that condensation appears on the soup maker while it's cooking and this happened with mine too. It wasn't a big deal and I just wiped it down once or twice during the cooking process. It's also been mentioned that some people find vegetables stuck to the bottom once it's cooked, but I have never had that problem. I think this might have to do with the type of vegetables you add and how finely you chop them. It might also help that I brush a light coating of olive oil on the base of my soup maker before I start the cooking process. This is a great gadget to have if you're trying to save money or be healthy as you can control exactly what goes into your soup. It's also great for the winter months to warm you up!Cleaning is extremely quick and easy. It takes me 2 minutes tops!Tip: Throughout my experimentation with various soup ingredients, I've found that adding a herb stock pot as well as a vegetable/chicken one really adds a lot of flavour. Parsley is also a great flavour enhancer!Final Note: Don't be alarmed when near the end of the cooking process the machine starts make a loud noise. It's the mixer starting up and as I wasn't expecting it, it almost gave me a heart attack! :)

Bought as a present for my wife who fell-in-love with a friends soup maker. Works superbly and the results are excellent. A couple of comments:1. There are very few soup recipes included with the soup maker why? Come on Morphy Richards, adding a recipe booklet would add little to the cost but a great deal to the product. Instead we have to resort to the internet.2. In many, many cases the few recipes that are included instruct you to fry onions in a pan, or cook this, or roast that. If you have to get a pan out to start the soup making off, it does detract from the one-for-all gadget. If one does have to fry onions or red peppers etc,why not have the stainless steel kettle part so you can place this directly on your cooker and then fry or cook the required ingredients in the soupmaker. At least this would reduce the washing-up.In summary, a great gadget for the easy, simple soups that don't need ingredients to be pre-cooked and the ones that we have tried have been great, creamy, smooth and delicious.Easy to clean - but I would recommend tracking-down the easy-to-prepare soup recipes that don't need additional preparation in other pans. Two additional comments having used for some time. The lid, which has the mixer and motor in it, has to be removed for some recipes whilst you add ingredients. The lid is very awkward to lay down, The rounded handle means that you cannot stand it upside down, and as it has sharp blades, you really need to endure that it rests somewhere where the blades cannot scratch anything. It would enhance the design, if there were a clip on the side of the main jug where you could 'hang' the top whilst you add later ingredients. You also need to be careful when you lift the 'lid' motor section off after it had been through its heating cycle as condensation is formed inside and this easily runs off into the electrical socket - especially if you lift it off with the 'lid' section inclined towards this. Easily done.

Great product. Have used it about a dozen or so times now and can't fault it.Many here seem to have issues with food burning on. Have had that happen only once and that was when adding some flour to the mix as a thickener - would suggest that is added once soup is made and can be added as required then. That one time I simply put some dish liquid and hot water in there and let it stand for half and hour, all came off without issue using a dish sponge so not sure why others are having issues.I always cover the base with olive oil and/or some butter and always put about an inch of water in before adding any vegetables so that they don't get to hit and stick the base plate when you drop them in there. Also give the mix a stir with a wooden spoon to even everything out before switching it on.Always make the contents up to around 750g give or take.Favourite recipe so far is honeyed carrot. 2 large leekes, chopped. Make up the weight to around 750g with sliced carrots. Add a good dollop of runny honey (about a tablespoon), a chicken stock cube, small pinch of dried chili seeds, one dried bay leaf flaked, seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked on the smooth function.Add some cooked and flaked chicken to it once cooked and maybe serve with some rice - tastes to me like a chicken korma! Lovely!!Remember, soup is just a sauce... don't think of it as just a soup maker. Use it to make a thick vegetable gravy if you like or a tomato based sauce for pasta, add mince and beans afterwards to make chilli etc. Or cook a chunky vegetable stew and add it to cooked rice and serve as a Chinese style dish with some chicken or fish perhaps...

On the whole I am pleased with this product, but it has its limitations. Once it is loaded you cannot lift the lid to taste the soup in progress, and you always have to fill the machine to one of two levels (not far apart) and so I find the consistancy of the soup is a bit thinner than I would normally make. So the quantity cannot be changed, and that means four bowls of soup each time. That's fine by me though. The soup can be blended to a chunkier consistancy using the blender facility which is OK. I have not used it for fruit yet. Although I carefully put a cup of water into the soupmaker before the vegetables etc it did start to burn onto the bottom on one occasion. If you do not follow a recipe,it's a surprise when you taste what you have created! It still makes a bit of a mess because the blade is attached to the lid, and is not easy to balance when you take it out, so you need a protector on the worktop which gets mucky with drips. I find it easy to rinse the soupmaker as soon as it's cool by running it under the tap and wiping with kitchen roll but avoiding the electricals. It does allow steam to escape round the lid so be careful not to use it under cupboards with food you want to keep dry. It is not light to handle really. However I have used it most days since I've had it. I bought a pack of veg ready prepared from the supermarket for 89p and threw it in with stock. It tasted fine, but they had put the top leaves from leeks in the mix which were stringy and spoilt it. So I will get better quality next time.

This has to be one the best kitchen gadgets I own! I have made lots of delicious soups in this maker, its very easy to use. I had a problem getting it to work first time and you have to make sure you don't overfill it with liquid as theres a sensor on the inside of the lid which detects if its too full and it wont work! I thought mine was faulty so I googled it and the best way to use it is: Put your veg in first making sure its chopped to a decent size and doesn't go above the max line then add your liquid ensuring the soup doesn't rise above the max line, if it does it wont work, as a general rule I use around 800ml of liquid and iv never had a problem with it working since the first attempt. You can select smooth or chunky, if you select chunky it cooks for 28mins and you then have the option to blend it if its too chunky, you can make smoothies in it too which iv never tried. I put the ingredients into the maker and leave it to do all the work, smooth setting takes 21 mins. It serves 4 people depending on how much you eat. Its very easy to clean, just warm soapy water making sure you don't submerge the electrical parts of the maker, it saves on washing up a large pan/food blender etc. It makes a noise when its blending but that's normal. My friends have bought this item since I bought mine it is really good. I would recommend this maker but make sure you follow my steps when you first use it.

after just 2 cookings, everything seems fine with the operation and the design. The reviews of several alternatives reveal a range of faults from glass jugs which shatter, plastic gearing cogs which break and cannot be replaced to design faults which make cleaning a hazard. Add to those points the sheer size of many and you have a list of items which demand too much storage space. Some are destined for that shelf in the garden shed alongside the bread maker. The pluses, so far :> no glass to shatter> compact height as the motor and blades are incorporated in the lid - cleaning can be thorough: a simple rinse and wipeThen, there's the (slight)minuses :> operating instructions could be clearer rather than have you use 'trial and error'.*> the minimum quantity is too much for normal meal - could be a nuisance for a single consumer.* the required function is selected by successive clicks of the mode button ie the mode button alone lets you scroll through the functions before you confirm your choice with a single click of Select. So, cleaning is easy, it should fit under the wall cupboards above your work top ... Oh ! and it does make great soup ! Just make sure you have space in your fridge for the 'left-over' container.Enjoy ! It's probably one of the best machines at a reasonable price.

We bought this soup maker to make soups for our six month baby daughter. It has been excellent, it is extremely practical, in just a couple of minutes we have the soup for a week. The soup is excellent, very creamy.I strongly recommend this soup maker for any recent parents.update: 11/06/2013After i've writen the original review i've had a couple of issues with the machine. Sometimes it didn't do the full cycle, and there where things getting burned on the bottom all the time. Now i've figure out what i was doing wrong and how we should use the soup maker properly:* start by putting about 700 ml in the machine;* put your vegetables in, but avoid starting with the potatoes, put everything in before and then put the potatoes on top. Its the potatoes that sink to the bottom and get burned;* once your ingredients reach the limit, add the reaming water;* if you want extra creamy soup use two large potatoes.I haven't had any problems since i started working this way, and the soups for my daughter just come out perfect.I still strongly recommend this soup maker, it has been a true blessing for us.

I have the the cuisinart at home and my husband has the morphy Richards in his apartment when he works away. The cuisinart is by far the superior soup maker. It offers far more functions, can make more sophisticated tasting soups and is much easier to clean with it self clean function. If you are very short on time and just want to put everything in and walk off and eat straight away the morphy Richards does the job. It's much lighter to lift to serve (if you'd struggle with a heavy jug) than the cuisinart and is cheaper but you cant fiddle. You can't add things mid cooking or stop and restart. Unlike the cuisinart where you can do what you want. You can even leave that on low if your not ready to serve and adjust the time.It also allows you to fry onions first then add stock for example which makes a much better flavour soup. You can also stir. You see you can fiddle more so it's suitable for more dishes. So the upshot is both are good both make good soup but the cuisinart is better but you get involved more. My husband is happy with his but I love mine.

I make a lot of soup and have to say - why on earth didn't I buy one of these years ago?. I suppose I was cynical that a machine could be left on it's own to produce something as good as homemade but it does. You really can't tell the difference. You don't need to be a scientist to use this gadget. You just chop up your veggies and throw them in. 21 minutes later you have a mix ready for a smooth soup or leave for a full 28 minutes for a chunkier consistency. I made brussel and broccoli soup last week, with the leftovers from Sunday lunch, and it was fabulous. 1.6 litre kettle is large enough for about 4 decent sized bowl fulls. You might find yourself with enough soup for 6 if you're having small portions before a large meal.Easy to take apart and easy to clean. Saves a lot of time and effort. Nice way of introducing healthy eating into your daily routine and you'll save some pennies by feeding yourself, and others, with the leftover veg you might otherwise have thrown away. More than happy to recommend.

I sometimes have a tendency to buy gadgets, and then not use them after the initial spurt of enthusiasm. But I'm using this CONSTANTLY! It is SO easy. I know it's not hard to make soup the old-fashioned way, but this seems to cut out so much of the work.I do cheat and fry the onions first, but in under ten minutes, all the ingredients are in the maker, and 21 minutes after that, it's ready! Not overcooked, no problems with burning as some other reviewers have had, and it's extremely easy to wash -- especially if you do it quickly, so the soup (especially if it has potato in) doesn't start to stick. This is by far the best -- and most used -- kitchen gadget I have ever bought. My only complaint is that it's sometimes hard to see where the min/max levels are,but that's a minor cavil.I've bought the Sistema soup mugs to go with it (B005D6Y1OM and they are also fabulous. I make a batch and bung it straight in the freezer, and that's my lunch sorted for the next few days!

This cookware appliance is simply an integrated electric kettle and a blender. Simple but incredibly effective. I was not expecting too much when I bought it but after opening the box I opted immediately to make one of the simplest soups from the user manual. Ingredients were water, frozen vegetables and a spoon of instant vegetable stock. Preparation time was less than 5 minutes and cooking time was 20 minutes. The end result was a very satisfying and thoroughly tasty soup. I knew from that point that the soup maker would be in regular use.More expensive soup makers are available with more features but I am pleased that I chose this one. Simple, effective and fast.If I want a soup which requires more sophisticated preparation then I will use more traditional means when I have more time. This soup maker provides me with a means of making a fresh and satisfying pot of soup as required for everyday use.I can recommend the Morphy Richards 48822 Soup Maker unreservedly.

I had my soup maker as a gift about a year ago and have since then produced some of the most amazing soups ever!Check-out my photos! I'm going to try and re-load my photos as they seem to have got all mixed-up!I've just bought another Morphy Richards Soup Maker myself to give as a gift and I have every confidence in it being equally well received. You really can't go wrong! An onion for flavour, a potato for thickening, a stock cube chopped finely and a minimum of 600ml of COLD water then the vegetable choice is yours..to produce 3 pints of the most delicious and satisfying soup you can ever imagine!Make a point of layering softer items like tomatoes and also lentils at the top so they won't be pressed down by the heavier ingredients.I've never had anything stick and burn on the bottom of the jug though I see some reviewers have....maybe adding a little of the liquid first to cover the bottom would help too. I found Paul Brodel's Soup Maker book an invaluable guide.

I bought this product about a month ago and since have been using it regularly. As with many kitchen appliances, once the novelty wears off, it sits at the corner and ready to be given away. But not with this one. This has exceeded my expectation and the soup is done in 21 mins, beautifully cooked and taste fantastic. what a better way to increase the daily intake of vegetables. The only point needs mentioning is at this price level, do not expect the soup maker to come with many functions. Although the instruction says put everything in the pot, but you have to cook vegetables first in the frying pan to achieve the best result. This is not that difficult to do as all you have to do is to put oil and all the vegetables and cook for about 15 mins before using the soup maker. Be realistic, if you want the machine to do everything, then prepare to pay a few hundreds for the appliance. As I said the important thing is the quality of soup and this product is fantastic.

If you are looking for a quick and easy soup to make this is the gadget to buy. I was happy using a pan & a stick blender and if im really honest i thought this would be a waste of money! I am now converted after using it almost every day since it arrived.Good quality machine, easy to use/clean. Makes enough soup to feed our family of 5After reading some reviews i was a little worried as some people said the soup was burnt/stuck to the bottom of the machine.....we have not had any problems with this, even my husband can make an edible soup with this machine ha!It is as simple as chopping your veg, add stock, press a button and in less than 30 mins you have lovely fresh soup. The great thing with this soup maker is it will not over-cook your veg so not only do you have a quick, cheap meal. You also have all the goodness/nutrients without the worry of having to watch it cooking.Thank you to the seller for dispatching the item quickly.

I cannot recommend this soup maker highly enough. You just pop your vegetables in, add stock and water, switch it on and in 21 minutes the creamiest, yummiest soup ever is ready, piping hot and full of goodness. The comments about it burning food is true if you don't put enough water in but it simply stops working so no big issue especially is it is user error that it's burning! All you have to do is empty it out, give it a bit of a scrub, pop vegetables back in with sufficient water and set it going again. As far as cleaning is concerned it couldn't be easier, rinse the top bit with the blade on under a tap and give it a little rub with a sponge to get any food bits off, then do the same with the bottom bit - it's like a large kettle so plenty of hand room to wipe round with a sponge or cloth.I use it every day, it makes 4 big bowlfuls and if you are on a diet it's a dream to make filling, fat free soups - delicious!!
