Which does exactly what it says on its box, and this 'gadget' is less likely to end up in a dark corner of a cupboard, IMO.Efficient in its own right this super item became especially famous as a 'Delia Cheat Gadget!' (earning itself a removable label on both the box and the item, in the process) with the publication of the book - Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking and by the TV programme of the same name.Small enough to be easily stored - but keep it in a safe place as the stainless steel blade, not surprisingly, is ULTRA SHARP!Assembles easily and has a safety locking mechanism on the lid, ensuring that the item has to be assembled correctly in order to start chopping, but this is easy to learn.Blade chops everything right down to the bottom, evenly......although some practice is required to begin with to avoid a mushy result! This is easily rectified with less human enthusiasm, i.e. a shorter burst of power, as I found with a rather too fine result with some whole nuts! Also, it should be noted that it does require the cutting up of chunkier vegetables, e.g. an onion, into pieces....in order to fit into the bowl, which although has an overall capacity of 350ml equates to c 150g overall chopping capacity.I have found myself falling back on this little machine more often than not.Having ordered a batch of tinned whole plum tomatoes (rather than chopped) I now whizz them around on the slower speed setting whenever a quick fix is required. The recipe for really 'Easy Pineapple Cake', from Kim McCosker & Rachael Bermingham's 4 Ingredients requires a tin of 'crushed pineapple'.....which proved remarkably elusive in the supermarkets. No problem.......a tin of pineapple chunks was reduced to the required 'crush' in minimal time, albeit in two sessions due to quantity.Rubber feet keep the item stable on the counter-top and this neat little set also comes with a sensible length of cable, around 4ft.Easy to clean, and the bowl & blade are dishwasher safe.Boxed, with registration guarantee and full operating and safety instructions, although if you have misplaced the latter, Amazon have a pdf format version above.

I bought one of these about a month ago and it has been in constant use ever since. I have used it to chop onions, garlic, to "hide" mushrooms in stews by mincing them down to almost nothing, to make juice from apples and smoothies from pears. I also disagree with the reviewer who said the mini chopper can't cope with chocolate squares. I chopped 200g of dark chocolate last night with no problems at all. However, it is important to understand the limitations of this little machine. When chopping the apples to make juice I noticed that the motor was starting to overwork, so I would urge caution with prolonged bursts of chopping. The mini chopper seems to work best when used in short pulses of no more than a few seconds at a time, repeated until the desired consistency is achieved. In fact, pulsing like this makes it easier to control the speed of the blades and the rate at which the food is chopped. It took me a bit of practice to be able to choose if I wanted something finely chopped and not completely pureed! (But I think that reflects my own inexperience with food processors and not a fault with the machine.)There are two speeds, and the second, faster speed is attained by pushing the grey button down hard. I was surprised at first how hard you can push to get this second speed, but you can hear the motor speed up when you do.My final tip is how much to chop at a time. I find I get the most consistent results when I don't overfill the bowl. About half full with solids is "full". This allows the blades to mix the food around as they chop and draw in larger chunks for chopping. When I overfill the bowl I end up with puree at the bottom and a few large chunks on top.Lastly, people have commented on the size. It *is* small, but that's the point! It is designed to chop a single onion, to make a batch of hummus or mayonnaise, not to mix a cake. This to me is what makes it so useful. It is perfect to grab for small kitchen tasks and takes up very little space and is quick to clean.I love that it is designed to look like its bigger cousins too. I find it very stylish.

A few years ago I was put off buying this chopper because of the label "a Delia cheat gadget" - not because of anything against the wonderful Delia but just not liking the idea of using a cheat! However, having bought one I would say that one of the things other reviews don't mention is how much FUN this wonderful gadget is to use. Its small but elegant design means it's a very neat and precise little tool. I really enjoy the whole experience of pulling it out of the cupboard to whizz something quickly, then rinsing the bowl and blade under a hot tap, without the chore of washing or dish-washing a full processor. (I've only dish-washed the bowl, blade and lid a few times, but for what it's worth I didn't see any sign of discoloration. Btw, the remaining motor housing is well sealed and easily wiped down.)Since buying the mini-chopper I've used it almost every day, and it shows no sign of wear. Mostly this is when cooking for two, but also easily for four. I use it a lot to make breadcrumbs for pané: preparing Scotch eggs or schnitzels for two, the chopper can take all the bread in one go if you want, but I've found it's actually faster in two short loads - a mixture of short and long pulses. I also use it when preparing baby food from fresh vegetables or fruit for our granddaughter. And having being used to laborious hand chopping when making duxelles for Wellingtons, etc., it is such a pleasure using the mini-chopper to render mushroom duxelles in about 4-5 seconds. Indeed, I now add mushroom and cabbage duxelles to most casseroles and pies for a really intense flavour, alongside diced onion (I still prefer to fine-dice onion by hand), and the chopper copes very well with finely chopping a chorizo sausage, mincing turkey and chicken meats, and grating up raw carrots, cabbage, apple and sprouts for coleslaw. (My wife now says her favourite way to eat sprouts is to have them finely chopped and sautéed for five minutes in a little butter with finely chopped chorizo.)Very, very highly recommended.

I read all the reviews here and then put this down for my "Secret Santa" present. I have used it practically evey day since xmas day and it will never be hidden at the back of the cupboard! My main problem in the kitchen was onions, as I use chopped onions daily for gravy etc. So now I peel and cut in half several onions then I have about three days worth which I sperate into individual amounts and keep in the freezer. I use it instead of my mortar and pestle as I have some mild arthritis I don't have the 'oomph' necessary for the grinding of herbs and spices. So this mini chopper is much easier to use for th grinding of those herbs and spices.I am finding more and more uses for it as I have left in on the kitchen counter so I can see it and use it. Others in the house are watching me use it and trying it out themselves. The bowl is delicate but I have already researched where and how much a replacement bowl is and may buy a spare one before long. Only negative is the electric cord..my coffee grinder has the facility for out of sight storage and so does my toaster, so why couldn't they do something similar with this. Still, I am giving it five stars as it does what I want it to do. I highly recommend it should have bought it much earlier.2018! - I am still using this, yes the original one with great regularity. Pesto sauces. Chopped dates. Chopped chestnuts. All types of nuts have been blitzed to dust in this, including bread and toast into crumbs. Many herb pastes and mixtures. The blades are still as sharp as ever. It really has been my best kitchen gadget purchase. Others are not used as often and/or have not survived, eg the coffee bean grinder gave up so now I use this! It's my first 'go to' if I need something finely chopped or crushed. I remember the first time I saw it being used was Delia Smith on TV, only item I have ever coveted from a TV chef.

I bought this to replace my previous kenwood mini chopper that I dropped. I find this a bit tricky to fit together and to take apart but had same problems with my last one. I have some problems with my hands though. I use this because I cannot chop up chicken and vegetables etc... that I use in my chihuahuas food. This saves me a lot of time and chops it very small while mixing it together. It is easy to wash but blade is very sharp so you have to be extra careful with it and I recommend washing it separately than the rest of parts. It is quite noisy but you do not need to use it long to chop, it works extremely quickly. This one in comparison to my old one is very strong and better quality. In the lid it has a hole to pour liquid. I have also used this one to chop tomatoes and onions, garlic to put in a sauce. I think it will be excellent for me to make houmous because of hole in the lid. I would have given this 5 stars but for me personally it is a bit tricky like I said previously to fit together and take apart. I often have to turn the bowl and try a few times to fit it together, it is not marked which is the part to put to the back. I however am going to find a small sticker or marker to make this easier to identify. The fact that this makes it so easy to chop finely so many things outweighs putting it together and I would recommend this for that reason. It has saved me a lot of time and makes my life easier. This would work well to chop up food for kids who are being introduced to solids. This is easily stored being so small and does not take up a lot of worktop space so I don't actually put it away.

I have been delighted with this mini chopper. It really does an excellent job. I can vary how finely I want something chopped by using a pulse action until it is just the right degree of chopped. It chops evenly and I can vary it from coarsely chopped to very very finely chopped, virtually a paste. It is much smaller than you would imagine and takes up very little space on the worktop, but at the same time chops a good size portion at one time. Once I found the knack it was very easy to assemble and dis-assemble and there is definitely a knack to it. When I first got it I thought it was going to be much too stiff to open and close as I have arthritis in my hands which was the whole reason for getting the chopper in the first place. But there is a definitely knack to it. I turn it with its back towards me so that the pointed end is pressing against my body and then I press down and twist using both hands, one on either side. This way it is really easy to assemble and disassemble. I have tried many many choppers and have been disappointed with them all, but this one is marvellous. I use it to chop cooked chicken, mushrooms, courgettes, apples, it chops anything really. A very good buy.

I have definitely been through a small army's share of various types of chopping/cutting contraptions. This, is hands down my fave little nifty bit of kit. It's so cheap and cheerful, I actually order myself one ready and despatched by Amazon to my self-catering holiday locations so that I can cook up a storm wherever I go. Which I then dutifully bring back home with me at the end of our stay.Too good to just give away!Granted, it won't last long, maybe a year or two with heavy use. The blades and lid will be the first to show their age. Replacement parts is too expensive, best to start afresh and salvage what you can from the old ones, as u hate wastage.I have a small collection of old ones in various states of usage, which I recycle with one another to make another usable machine. Once I finish with them, and if a motor is still pretty good then I'll donate them to a secondhand shop were someone with a bit of knowledge on tool sharpening can renew the vigour in the little gadget and give it a new lease of life.It is a shame though, that Kenwood haven't built this to last. A tremendous waste of resources.

I'm not sure why I hadn't got round to reviewing this - other than I've been too busy using it. I've got a bigger beast, a food processor which is used when making larger quantities and when things like pastry, dough, shredding or liquidising are needed - but THIS little beauty is an irresistible kitchen helper.Depending on how long you hold your finger on the pulse, you have a certain control on the size of your chopped bits, so I've used it to get onion, carrot, and even hard vegetables like swede, into bits of varying sizes for soups etc.You can get things chopped very fine as well, eg use it to make breadcrumbs, ground nuts. I've used it to to turn cooked pulses into a paste for vegetarian pates,to finely chop herbs, to chop cabbages for slaws, to make hummus. It's compact size makes it such a doddle to use and clean. I notice a reviewer who marked it down because it died within a year. The amount of use mine gets, it wouldn't surprise me if it coughed its last, but i would just give it a decent burial in the electrical goods recycle and immediately buy another. Brilliant price, brilliant product

I've had to replace my first mini chopper which I've had for several years now, the spindle which holds the blade had finally worn out. Not at all disappointed by this though as I used it most days, its always plugged into the wall ready to go……..I think the final bit of parmesan chopping got the better of it :( I looked at other mini choppers, before replacing with the same one, but I was so impressed but the power of this machine, its simplicity, durability and not to mention cost! that I didn't see the need to swap for a different make such as Dualit or a magi mix. This is a little star in my kitchen and the most used kitchen gadget ever and I've bought loads in the past that I've used a couple of time and are now gathering dust in the cupboards. It took me a couple of days to realise that there has been a slight improvement in this model too, a little opening in the lid presumably to add oil or other liquids during the machines operation, not needed to use this function so far, but I'm sure I will at some point. Well done Kenwood, this is a real whizz in the kitchen and a great price too :))

I've been promising myself one of these for a long while and when I saw it on offer with Amazon for £13, I decided to go for it! This little marvel is definitely going to be my new 'kitchen must have'.It chops everything so quickly and perfectly and it's compact enough to fit in (even my) my bulging cupboards. It won't replace the Kenwood food processor, especially if you have a family but it's perfect for small items and especially when you need to quickly, finely chop onions, herbs, peppers etc. With small quanities it definitely does a better job than my processor. Don't expect to use it though, if you need to chop large quantities - it handles one small-medium onion (cut into quarters)perfectly, half a pepper or 150g uncooked meat for example, but then again, if I wanted to chop uncooked meat, I'd definitely be reverting to my Multipro. Herbs and nuts are perfect too.Delivery was prompt (it arrived on the day it was estimated for), safely delivered by courier and was well packaged.I've only had it for 2 days, but I've used it every day and am delighted.

This little "mini chopper" does all that I can practicably expect it to do. I would at times even go so far as to call it a "mini food processor", though that technically is an abuse of the nomenclature. It looks and works as advertised, though I think it's a tiny stretch to say it has two speeds. Again, I suppose I am being fussy with the english, but I would say two "settings" or "options" would be more accurate. Just switching it on or manually "pulsing" the button, isn't really two different speeds!Minor quibbles aside (it really is "mini", I'd like something 10-30% bigger if I could have found it); this is an excellent kitchen tool and has it's place. In our house,it's mostly used as an almost dedicated onion chopper. We cook with onions often, but not in great amounts each time, so it's perfect for that sort of thing. It's a real kitchen item and not just a gadget!Note: Read the manual at least once, as there are a handful of common items that it is less suited for.

Bought this to replace a Marco White Mini Chopper which broke this was the second one of these we had. Looked at what was available for quality and price and the Kenwood stood out. It is small in size but not in quality it has a 1800 Watt motor which is very powerful I have only had it a week and it's paying it's way. It will chop 2 large Onions make enough mayo for 2 people. This is not the size of food chopper for a family of 4 but for the 2 of us it's great. Another thing it's very stale and does not slip due to the non slip feet. The cord length is about 1 mt The unit will not operate until the mixing bowl is locked in place my wife did have trouble removing the bowl but this may be due to the fact it's new. There is a 2 speed motor so press slowly at first for the 1st speed then press it further down for the 2nd speed. Your hand has to remain on the start button at all times as these is no lock, But as the time you need to run it is about 5 seconds max it's not an issue.

I was looking for a chopper to chop onions and garlic essentially. I had a garlic press which my husband broke a couple of months ago. As I didn't want to buy another garlic press,I decided to go for the kenwood mini chopper. It is small as expected and I am quite happy with it. Great for chopping breadcrumbs, garlic, onions, herbs. However, it will not successfully chop up the more harder spices like cloves and peppercorns, etc. As I have read other reviews, it will distort or damage the blade. However there is another way around it but you will have to buy this product - [ASIN:B00004SPEU Krups Twin Blade Coffee Mill].This product will grind the harder spices and it does grinds it to a powder.Trust me it works. When I found out the spices didn't on the mini chopper, it works with the Krups coffee mill.To get the best out of the mini chopper, you'll have to pulse it every couple of seconds until you get it the way you like it, whether coarse or fine.

I needed a chopper/blender/grinder in order to make my Budwig Cream (the famous health-builder breakfast, where raw cereal grains, nuts and seeds are ground) so first I bought an electric coffee mill at £35 but it broke on first use. So I researched all kitchen robots and went for this chopper and also a blender, both from Kenwood.Well it turns out I only need this little chopper after all, at merely £20 it does all I had dreamt of, I don't even need the expensive blender! It chops all herbs (4 seconds) of course, but also grind nuts (hazelnuts and almonds so far) in 10 seconds, seeds and even the hard raw cereals grains such as buckwheat. It simply is the best buy of the year for me,I am greatly impressed. And it is so compact I can take it with me to friends' places when I need to cook over there, it is smaller than a handbag. This is written by a genuine food obsessor, not someone paid to write a review!

I have owned this little appliance for some time now and use it constantly. It has showed no signs of failing so far and is pretty sturdy.I use it mostly to ground nuts or make sauces (ie. pesto) and it works perfectly for those things. Because it is quite small, I wouldn't really put any bigger vegetables such as carrots or anything too solid in it but overall it does what it's meant to.It does particularly well at pulverizing nuts in no time at all and comes in handy if you need to make something like almond or peanut flour (even though you may need to do it in several batches). I have also tried using wet products such as peanut butter to make protein balls and while it works well, the size of the machine becomes a little bit limiting. In terms of use, it is very straight forward, you simply need to plug it in and press a button and you're good to go!Overall I am very impressed and happy with my purchase
