I recently realised the importance of maintaining the integrity of ones fingertips when I inadvertently almost removed the tip of my left forefinger with a pair of newly sharpened secateurs. After applying pressure, I plunged the aforesaid digit into a pot of styptic powder reserved for stemming the flow of blood should I cut into the quick when trimming my dogs’ claws. My dear husband, who loves a lie in on a Sunday morning, found he had to rush his breakfast so he could take me into the local A&E. Though he is a doctor (psychiatrist) he is not good with gore so there was no point asking him to dress it. Despite being in the middle of the Covid epidemic, I was seen very quickly and my wound was treated carefully, methodically, efficiently and painlessly by a lovely guy whose name I didn’t quite catch. I was in and out in an hour! I now had a large dressing on my finger.Fortunately, I am right handed, so I was still able to wear the microplane glove on my right hand. The fingers are quite long, but I slide them down until my fingers reach the tips. I grate carrots for my salad every day and they grip really well and always use them. However, I felt unable to review them as they had never been put to the test....until a few days ago when I was grating an oddly shaped carrot. It was the vegetable equivalent of a keep fit fanatic who skips leg day at the gym: all muscles at the top and skinny below the waist. My box grater has seen quite a bit of use and perhaps is isn’t quite as sharp as it used to be so the inevitable happened - the carrot broke in the middle, the bottom bit went flying to be expertly fielded by one of my dogs patiently waiting for such an event and my gloved finger hit the grater. Despite the impact, both finger and glove remained intact. I was so impressed with how well it performed that I was sufficiently distracted to accidentally grate the same finger. Again, the glove did it’s job.So please think of the NHS and purchase this glove!

Purchased in good faith, after reading very positive reviews here. Arrived promptly, and 17 page instruction manual was detailed, although it needs some pictures - I almost put it on my foot the first time! The weight is ideal for me, and the texture feels great on my skin, especially at night. One day, against the advice of a friend, and no doubt encouraged by the previous evening's sherry, I gloved up, tossed a working revolver to my friend, and held my hand aloft. Shouting "in the name of Queen Elizabeth!", I nodded the command to fire... Only after 29 minutes of severe abuse and vigorous nodding on my part, and shaking on his part, did my friend finally commit the bullet to my hand.So confident was I that the glove could stop any shell, I chose not to remove my grandmother's exquisite Victorian tea service from the line of fire. It was only as I regained consciousness, that I realised all was lost. The fine porcelain shattered, my hand now unable to participate in a simple game of hide-and-seek, and my friend arrested for attempted murder. However, I have never cut myself on a microplane whilst wearing this glove - highly recommend!

When I cut myself on my mandolin I thought I better get one of these. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I thoughtperhaps I didn't need it after all and I worried about the hygiene aspects. Why bother, because I practically use it every day now. I'm chopping stuff with a much bigger knife, which means I've speeded up. The blade on my big chopping knife always frightened me, now with this on I feel I can just cut away. You still have to take great care mind you, but its sort of like wearing a seat belt and driving, the car could still kill you but at leastyou can drive a bit faster because of the belt?I also worried that I would have to wash it every time and that would mean more work.I find I can get away with cleaning it off on a damp cloth and reuse it. I would have to wash it if I were cutting up any meat, but I don't intend to use it for that. This one is strictly for the veg.I think its an expensive item, but quite well designed so I didn't mind the price too much in the end.

when you cut and chop a lot in kitchen - occasionally you can cut yourself. with this glove - your hands are safe. it also protects your fingertips when using grater. no cuts at all. finally!have tried this glove while openind oysters - good work. no slipping, and no occasional cuts from oyster knife.as item described - the glove will not protect from the direct cutting with sharp knife. never tried - can not tell.also had no chanse to try the glove with fish and fillet knife. may be fillet knife is more dangerous to the glove. and no idea about washing after filleting the fish. but after opening oysters - the smell was totally gone with one usual wash in the washing mashine.good item.would recommend.

I bought these from John Lewis and am happy with my purchase. One size does not fit all as i have long fingers and i have these gaps. From what i have read online from other buyers, these will shred if caught by the blades of a grater. So i don't recommnend them with graters. There is a fork technique when cutting the last 2 inches of a carrot which is very safe. They need regular washing as onion juices get on them and for hygiene you need to use them clean.Update review:The gloves need regular cleaning at the stated temperature on the wool programme. They have helped me avoid many cuts and equally did not when i once did not put them to cut a tomato.

I'll keep this short. We bought a Zyliss mandolin about 5 years ago and while explaining to friends just how dangerous it was, and why my wife would have nothing to do with it herself - I sliced the top off my RH index finger, including some of the nail. My wife threw the mandolin away whilst I was off to A&E to get my finger sorted.About 3 years ago, I prevailed on her to let me get another one, on the condition that I get one of these gloves to go with it.Last month, I carelessly tried to take the top off my finger again, but the glove just jammed in the blade. It got damaged - NOT ME!!(She let me keep the mandolin.)Nuff said ??

I was slicing away with my mandolin when I sliced the tip of my third finger, which bled profusely and didn't stop so I ended up in Casualty having it steristripped and dressed. Living alone in these situations is very stressful. I decided therefore to find a protective glove when I'm using graters/mandolins again, although I'm reluctant to right now after this accident! I haven't tried and tested it so far but it looks robust and adequate I hope at protecting ones fingers and hand from injury. My review to date is not really very helpful. I will review here again when it's been tried and tested!

I recently bought a mandolin and literally shredded the tips of the fingers on my right hand. The mandolin is really useful and fun to use, but oh, so sharp! There is a finger guard but it's not useful if you try to slice the little bits. This is when I found the microplane glove on Amazon and I haven't looked back. It's absolutely perfect for mandolin cutting and solves the problem of trying to slice the little bits that won't fit under the guard. The glove is surprisingly thin and soft and easy to work with and seems all but immune to the sharp blades. No more cuts!

Have used this a few times since buying when using my new Mandolin, as I find it easier to grip the veg with my hand, rather than using the protective veg slider that came with the slicer.I caught the end of my finger lightly once on the blade and the glove protected me, but did unravel a bit. So it does what it says on the tin. It is very lightweight, so I am not sure how effective it is should a serious cut occur - I'd rather not find out, thank you!

My family were starting to despair about the number of nasty cuts I was sustaining when using my set of sharp kitchen knives. This glove has come to the rescue: I keep it next to my knife set and faithfully use it every time I wield the knives. So far, my fingers have remained undamaged! Very easy to wash (I just use washing-up liquid to rinse the glove) and quick to dry.

I use this to cut half frozen barf (bones and raw food) for my cat and I like it a lot. It keeps my hand from getting slippery from the meat fats. I also keeps my hand from getting to cold so I do have some feeling after an hour of cutting.I hope it also protects me from my cleaver, but haven't tested that yet (hope I never will).

Although the packaging says that it is only "cut resistant" and not "cut proof," the glove certainly provides protection against those accidental (and often nasty) cuts and bruises by mandolines and graters. I would give five stars were it not for the rather high price (in view of hygiene, it is ideal to have multiple gloves).

I've been put on blood thinners so am especially worried about any cuts I might sustain while in the kitchen. I managed to grate my thumb and that was the last straw! This product works nicely. It's a bit expensive, if I'm honest, but it does the job.

One of those things you didn't know you needed until you got one, apparently. Bought this for my mother together w/ an Oxo mandoline - she loves them both and I understand she's bought the gloves as gifts to some of her friends.

This item makes using a mandolin a much more pleasant experience, I'm never gonna be happy about whizzing my fingers back and forth near a blade as sharp as a mandolin but at least with this I wont lop off a finger. Recommended.
