A nice reminder of warm nights sat in a Greek restaurant after another charred meal!I am one of the few people who appreciate the harsh flavour of Metaxa 3 star and therefore the smoothness of this 12 star offering came as quite a surprise; somewhat akin to the look of the Greek waiter’s face when we order 3 star. It isn’t about the price of three star which is the attraction, it is about fond memories of visiting Greece 40+ years ago and what was available then.At £25.00 a bottle on special offer, this brandy is reasonably priced for what it is. In terms of a quality brandy, you can award it as many stars as they like, I would suggest that you either like it as a drink or not.It is certainly an unusual spirit and instantly recognisable as being different from the norm and therefore very suited to its Greek heritage.12 star is very much a more refined drink, which whilst three star is for those of us who can remember when there was little else other than home produced grappa or ouzo, it is a reminder of how Greece has changed: mostly for the better.

I am (oh, and Mrs too) a Metaxa lover. We like 3*, have moved on to prefer 5*, and have now acquired a taste for 7star as a special treat. On holiday in Greece last year I saw this 12* but no-where could we find it as something we could buy to try as a single tot, we only found it in shops, buy a bottle for about 50euros!. Even duty free had it at about the same price. When I saw it here on amazon, I bought it as a Christmas threat, and we got to try it last week. I will start by saying, it is gorgeous, the expected honey flavour we expect from Metaxa, with a smoothness I cannot describe without stupid facial expressions. Whether it is that superior to a 7* 'm not so sure, we only drank 1/3 of the bottle!,and that was after a bottle of wine in the pub for our anniversary!. But I will say this. It looks fantastic, such an attractive bottle, well boxed, and would look great as a present. And at this price, I would definitely buy again, one word, nectar, two words, gorgeous.

An amazing smooth and mellow brandy to enjoy at home with some complex notes of chocolate and toffee. As a Greek I am quite familiar with Metaxa and the muscat variety of wines. Muscat in greek means something that has a wonderful smell and this brandy is true to its heritage.I saw some questions on what the stars mean. In the old days, it used to indicate the minimum time in the barrel. Nowadays 3-5 stars mean a minimum of two years in the barrel. Greeks though buy and drink Metaxa according to the following:3 stars for cooking5 stars for present7 stars for guests12 stars for you and your partnerAnything better (there are Metaxa bottles up to £1000) strictly for yourself!Extra tips:Samos, the Aegean island that this brandy is produced, also produces a fantastic desert wine if you can find.Metaxa has also a secret mix of herbs and rose pedals, although you couldn't really tell.

If you are going to use it as a mixer then buy no more than 5 stars as mixing seven or twelve star Metaxa spirit could be considered sacrilege. For drinking neat it is a different matter. Before moving to Greece where I lived for seven years I would drink French Brandy, ( for example Remy Martin) but once I was introduced to 7 star Metaxa I discovered the next level of smoothness. 12 star is my treat, the bottle I hide away from ordinary visitors. The smoothness and the different effects on the palette the longer you can keep it in your mouth join together to make a unique drinking experience. If you just gulp down drinks one after another you will never enjoy this spirit - it would be wasted on you.You must savour its flavour, drinking a single glass only with a fresh mouth uncontaminated by other alcoholic drinks. Drink it at home slowly whilst relaxing and enjoy the moment.

Nicely presented in gift box and secure packaged. If you've not tried Metaxa before then it's well worth sampling a snifter; very fragrant and almost sweet, think subtle blossom honey notes. I'd be lying to say it's got the depth of a Hennessy XO but that's not really the point of it- more one to be had on a Friday night than to go the full hog with warmers and cigars.Metaxa rank their offerings by star ratings, to be blunt the 3 star is industrial, the 5 not much better and the 7 drinkable after a litre of Retsina. Realistically this 12 star is where it starts being worth drinking! Also worth noting this is cheaper online here than in the Dutyfree, and a couple of bottle shops I saw,in both Chania and Athens

From what I can gleam, this is made from wine produced from Soultanina/Savatiano/Koritnthiakos grapes and aged for 12 years. This is then blended with aged aromatic Muscat wines and infused with Greek herbs and May rose petals before spending an additional year in a barrel before being bottled. Very fruity with a honeyed sweetness, with a lingering flavour of rose, and what I perceive as a barrel heavy flavour. I find this clash between sweet and barrel notes confusing when sipped neat, but on ice you can reign in the sweetness. I've used it to make alternative versions of Old Fashioned/Manhattan/Negroni cocktails with greater success.

Oh come on! This stuff is the good stuff! I bought this item multiple times for myself and for my Dad because we both enjoy this and sadly, this is the only place we are able to find this item. It used to be sold locally but not anymore, which is sad.The taste is something on it's own, the smell too.. The money you pay for this is 100% worth it and I would 100% recommend this product if you are chasing something different for once.. the 12 Star is much sweeter than the 7 star if you are a drinker of Metaxa.

Being a lover of cognac, armagnac and calvados, I was interested to read the many positive reviews and absolutely delighted to find they are spot on.This is an incredibly smooth brandy, rich on the palate, aromatic, and with a hint of that true Metaxa character in the finish. The rose petals are definitely in there, just a hint of sweetness, plenty of the complexity a good oak aged brandy should have, and as someone said it is truly a Greek summer in a glass. At this price what's not to love.

Well this is nice, its lovely in fact, but I do wonder how much better than the 7 star Metaxa it is.Having tried the two ,in the interests of research you understand I am not sure I could tell the difference in a blind tasting, or indeed even knowing which is which. That is not to say I don't like it,I love it, but I also love the 7 star one and that is cheaper.Maybe other people can tell the difference, but as I can't as much as I liked this I will be buying the 7 star very happily in future.

I bought this for mum's birthday as we are both brandy lovers and mum has never tried Metaxa before; I've always told her about how delicious the 7 star Metaxa I had on several Greek holiday was; so when I seen 12 star at such a brilliant price, I just had to get it for her.We hope to be able to raise our glasses at Hogmany (restrictions allowing) and savour what I know will be a delicious treat (in mum's new crystal brandy glasses ....... slainte!

This is a great spirit and have been drinking it for over 20 years. Living in Greece and Cyprus and knowing some relations of the Metaxa family, I can confirm that the stars are representative of the years that it has been aged. 5 star = 5 years, 7 star = 7 years, 12 star = 12 years. Hope this helps everyone. 7 star is very smooth and most popular in Greece. 12 star is for a special occasion and please do NOT mix it. Enjoy.

I got this metaxa as an anniversary present for my parents. They both really enjoyed it, they said "it's the best brandy we have ever had."The metaxa was beautifully smooth when sipped, with hints of chocolate in the after taste. I will defiantly buy this product again. The supplier was first rate, sending the product out really quickly, I will defiantly be using them again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I ordered this brandy very late before Christmas as a surprise present and was pleased to find it arrived the day before Christmas. It was promptly delivered and well packaged. On drinking it, it earns its 12 * as it is a very smooth brandy to taste with no firey aftertaste. I would thoroughly recommend it to others as I would the vendors who offered such a good service.Perkins

Never came across this in 20 years of living on Crete - and that's a pity, because it's even better than my old favourite 5-star Metaxa (there is a 7-star, but I found it a little sweet for my taste). This is a very smooth Greek cognac (although I believe they're not allowed to advertise it as cogmac now, due to EU law). Well worth the money I paid. Try it!
