Wow!Bought this for my daughters 3rd birthday, to go with her wooden kitchen. I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving this, there is loads! I didn't expect the crates or the food to be that big considering the price! I don't really know what I was expecting but whatever it was, this exceeds all my expectations! There are 4 wooden crates which are not just for decoration, they feel strong and hold about 5-6 items of food. There is a good variety of food and I think 17 peices all together. I love the bread buns!! The fruit is pretty basic, the Orange is just an orange ball! But even so, you can clearly tell what it's supposed to be! Some of the other food has got lovely detailing though. You just can't go wrong with wooden food, compared to the plastic stuff you get this is amazing. It will last until the child no longer wants to play with it anymore and even after that you could probably sell it on! For the price of this, the quality of it and how much you get I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone!!

My kids have got endless play from these toy foods and they are definitely an investment that they will have for years. They are very durable, made from solid wood and are a decent size. They are far better than the plastic and cardboard alternatives that you often receive with shop/kitchen play sets that only last a few weeks before getting squashed! Some of the fruits such as the apple and tomatoe are very solid however and could cause an issue if your toddler was in the throwing stage! The colours are bright and vivid and all the pieces that we received have maintained their colour. They have a decent amount of detail on them so kids can instantly recognise what foods they are meant to be.The little crates are sturdy too and are handy for helping kids sort the food into food groups. My kids have played with these toys loads in their toy kitchen, and regularly set up a shop too with these items. They are their favourite toy foods of all the various kinds that we have.

Another great product from Melissa & Doug, the Food groups crates were a great addition to our shop (from GLTC). The crates are quite small, (approx 6.5"x 4.5") but perfect for little hands, the food is brightly painted and set out in food group crates (not that they will stay like that).I personally prefer the wooden, painted play food as opposed to the plastic food you can get, it is a little bit more expensive, but I think worth it, for the quality and general feel of it, i really feel that because it's so well made it's worth the investment. We have a huge selection to choose from, and we've gone from the basic shop playing game to making real purchases and charging real prices,so it's a great toy to grow with kids from early years, till they're ready to start learning about money and then you can incorporate that aspect as well.Highly recommended, very hard wearing and fun.

Recently bought my daughter a kitchen but with a lack of ‘food’ to cook we felt that it needed something a little extra to complete the toy. We saw these and thought we would give them a go as the little empty cardboard boxes wouldn’t last minutes with my 2 year old mini Godzilla. These arrived and at first we were expecting the package to be a little bigger then what we had been given. So at first we were quite dissapointed and bracing ourselves for more dissapointment as we opened the box.The toys are exactly what we wanted, they’re good quality wooden ‘food’ items with little wooden crates. I would recommend these toys to anyone that’s looking for make believe food for their little ones to enjoy.Happy parents and a very happy 2 year old that’s enjoyed them straight out of the box.

Another Christmas gift for my daughter, and again she absolutely loves it. The set includes four small wooden crates with a selection of the food groups in each, and it is exactly the type of toy that every parent would LIKE their children to play with, only to see them run towards the latest brightly-coloured petrochemical derivative. Except with this one - it's caught her imagination, and she's playing with them time and time again.Only concern I had was with the price, but if she continues to play with them as she has been that will be a moot point. the quality is good, as the previous reviewer said I can imagine they will get chipped in time but that happens with most wooden toys.

I wanted wooden toys to go with our wooden kitchen. This offered a good selection of healthy pretend foods, with baskets for storage.I was very satisfied with the quality of these, and they have stood the test of time over more than a year so far.Nicely painted, smooth finish, they aren't too heavy to be a worry (though anything thrown about would be potentially!). There's breads, meat and fish, fruit and veg, milk and cheese, it's a lovely mixture for imaginative shopping and eating play.We fit it inside our play kitchen, and it's helped with naming foods, pretending to buy and cook them, and certainly helped through last year's lockdown! For ages 2-6.

Bought for my niece for Christmas. My brother and his wife were after some wooden food toys for my niece's ever increasing toy kitchen and these fit the bill perfectly. The quality of the items was brilliant, many of my family were passing round the items and commenting how premium they. The detail on the individual pieces was stellar, (the ever so slightly burnt sausage was my personal favourite). I'm sure that the paint & wood may start to chip away with time but that surely has to be expected. They were really pleased with the gift, so I was happy to have bought it!

We've bought Melissa & Doug wooden food before and really loved it, so we bought some more. We weren't disappointed. All the items are solid and feel good to hold, are well painted, and are so much nicer to play with than plastic food. It's made it much easier to talk to our daughter about food groups as well because these are tangiable items. The small wooden crates are nice too. The set was smaller than I was expecting when it arrived, but is actually the right size for the toy plates and kitchen that we have, and the size of children's hands!

The four little wooden crates and their various 'food' and 'dairy' contents make a wonderful assortment for young children to play with, using their imagination. These are beautifully made, though some of the contents were misinterpreted by one of the enthusiastic four year old recipients, who identified the 'burger' as a "chocolate biscuit". The little crates encouraged the children naturally to enjoy stacking them at the end of playing. Very good value, and are anticipated to offer very many hours of imaginative play!

Mellissa and Doug are my go to range for toys for my baby. I had researched these food crates for a while before buying and noticed people saying the crates themselves were weak and break easily. This wasnt an issue for me as I was buying for the food inside but I was extremely impressed when my order arrived and I found the company have actually redesigned the crates to make them stronger! What more can you ask than a company that listens to its customers and is proactive in improving their products. 5 stars from me.

My little boy loves these. A great range of different foods (though would prefer fewer meat items). Have to be careful as little one likes to throw the orange and tomato (they look like balls) and they're solid wood so could do a bit if damage, but just takes a bit if mindfulness from the supervising parent - still far preferable to plastic alternatives. Would definitely recommend, Melissa & Doug toys are always well made and good quality.

Brilliant toy. My 4 year old daughter loves playing shops and cafes with it, and randomly brings my husband and I plates of food which she has just "cooked"! I like the fact it is in "food groups" - daughter is starting to learn about different types of food and how they help in different ways (eg protein from meat to help her grow)! It is also great quality. I will definitely be buying more Melissa and Doug food toys in the future.

I was lucky to get this little set on offer and am so pleased. The wooden pieces of food are eye catching and smooth to touch and great for role play for little ones. Whilst it says 3+ on the age the pieces are all quite big so do not appear as a swallow hazard. My little boy had these at a much younger age. The fact that they show different food groups is a good way of familiarising little ones with eating a varied, healthy diet.

Excellent value and perfect for 4 and 2 year old to play with together. The littlest really enjoyed taking items out of the little crates and rearranging them and the eldest served up different meals and snacks as well as playing shopping trips. Lots of scope for different sorts of play. Nice and sturdy, no plastic and will hopefully last a lot longer than the previous plastic/cardboard set they had which got chewed and mangled.

Quality food set with lots of variety of food from the food groups so perfect for talking about healthy eating and where food comes from and for role play. Lovely simple but effective detail on each individual piece of play food. The paint work is of good quality and the wood is too.The boxes are made of light wood although strong. The toys have a good weight to them and overall a lovely addition to my sons kitchen set.
