I bought this for a four year who is the undisputed queen of imaginary cuisine, certainly in her road. She has had it for a year and it seems to be played with very regularlyThe set is made of sturdy stuff and definitely looks the part. The highlight of the whole thing in her case has been the little oven glove. It's wonderful to watch her using it when she takes her casserole pot out of the oven, carefully takes the lid off, stirs 'Whatever It Is' and then remembers to put the glove back on again before shoving the thing back in for another ten minutes at imaginary gas mark four. See now, a four-year old kid can remember the correct sequence of events in order to NOT burn yourself - I wonder why I can't...?Be prepared to have to face one or two, possibly uncomfortable, truths with regard to your own culinary expertise once this fabulous little set has taken up residence in your home. I watched the little one using the little spatula thing with, what I perceived to be, rather excessive vigour on one occasion. 'What are you doing?' I asked her, to which she replied,'Oh, it's stuck to the bottom of the pan. It's all burnt now. You know, the way that YOU cook'. Kids can be so cruel sometimes. She then added insult to injury by waving that oven glove around in a frantic attempt to 'stop the smoke alarm from going off'.I think I might just have to get myself a few cookery lessons... .

This is a nicely made set of play kitchen equipment from the Melissa and Doug brand that essentially replicates a set of cookware needed to produce a meal for two. The set is chiefly made from plastic - pans, baking tray, utensils, plates, beakers, cruet and kitchen timer are all made from robust feeling plastic, although the dish towel and oven glove are fabric and the olive oil bottle is wooden. The colours used for this set are modelled after proper cookware, rather than the bright shades often used in children's play kitchen sets. The plastic items (barring the timer) can be cleaned on the top shelf of a dishwasher. The oven glove fits my hand easily,so should be plenty big enough for junior age children as well as infants and preschool - this does have fabric labels sewn onto the outside warning to keep away from fire, and not to use in handling actually hot items. The salt and pepper shakers are lovely - the pepper having granules in it representing both black and white peppercorns. The timer is (sort of) functional, and ticks down. There is clearly a bell inside the unit as it can be heard gently when the timer is moved, but this doesn't sound an alarm.A nice, and not at all babyish set that's suitable for children from 3+.

We bought this for our 21 month old for Christmas 2010, and she has had 8 months of fun playing with this toy in her toy kitchen! REALLY good quality, only negative part is that being a 2 year old, she has a tendency to drop & throw things, and they do mark a bit since they are wooden/painted but after 8 months they still look in pretty fab condition.Daughter likes to pretend cook in these, and even uses the oven mitt like we do in the kitchen. Our daughter uses them with plastic fruit & veg which seems to work well for her! We are impressed at how nicely she plays 'pretend' with this set. They are wood so quite heavy, although not too heavy for a child to play with, just worth keeping in mind if you have a child that likes to throw - this might hurt a fair bit if it was thrown at another child! We were since bought another Melissa & Doug toy (a wooden birthday cake with pretend decorations & candles that stick to it.) as a gift for our daughter when she turned 2, and again she LOVES it also. Will definitely recommend this brand in the future.

I got this for my 3 year old daughter (who keeps running to the kitchen for her mother's utensils) and she loves this.Yes this set is not cheap, but its very well made without any splinters or sharp corners and looks like it will last a while.I am not completely sure but I believe the pots are carved from a single block of wood (can't find any joins anywhere) except the lids which have the handles glued onto them, nevertheless there isn't any residue and looks very good. Some people have reported the paints have started to chip off - personally I haven't experienced this in the 3 months I've had this (my daughter normally slams the lid on the pot) so I'm assuming I'm either very lucky or those people got a defective piece. All in all,a very good toy for a reasonable price.

As a seller on Amazon you'd think I'd be highly intelligent using Amazon as a buyer. Wrong.I bought this thinking it's a holder for large utensils, boy was I wrong. I was delighted when it arrived and opened the box to check for damage, low and behold I found utensils. Awesome, I thought, as that's extra to what I wanted. Wrong again. Upon reading the packaging it was my horror to realise that I had finally become the customer to do something wrong. This set is a toy. It's a toy. Don't be downhearted by my story though, as a proper use was found for this item as my sister enjoys cooking with it. I told her it's not meant for real use but she doesn't seem to care and it holds up well.If you're looking to mis-read a product, this is the one to go for.

We put this in the kitchen roleplay area of our Reception class, and it was quickly clear that this was of much better quality than our existing "cookware" (much of which has now been disposed of). This has everything you need for two children (or child and adult) to role play cooking and eating a meal, including salt and pepper shakers with fake granules in! (don't worry, they don't come out). This kit has now stood up to a couple of months of regular use in a classroom and is still going strong - although inexplicably the saucepan lid has disappeared! The only difficulty we have had with this kit is that our chicken seems to be too big to fit in the pot! Tried and tested, and approve.Highly recommended set!

You need a play kitchen as this is a box of accessories that bring that to life. It is the "hardware" (plus condiment bottles) that provide the tools to preparing that play meal. The picture on the box shows food - this needs to be purchased separately - the photo of the items displayed actually shows the contents. Unusual for Melissa & Doug to use so much plastic - but this is high grade and can go on the top shelf of a dishwasher if necessary (e.g. for sterilisation occasionally). On a scale with other M&D products. A long game is granddad as market greengrocer selling the food, which the little one takes home and cooks in time for granddad's dinner LOL.

Beautifully made items, well worth spending a bit more for these fantastic items. The lids all fit beautifully and I love the addition of an oven glove as teaches toddlers about safety in the kitchen. The utensils are well crafted and very tactile as are all Melissa & Doug's cookware. The pots and pan are packaged in a mock cooking hob which is robust enough to use for play so these items could be used in isolation, no need for a separate kitchen. I also have the Slice and Bake Wooden Cookie Set or rather my 2 year old daughter does! This is also wonderful. I would highly recommend Melissa & Doug's products for your young children.

Bought these for our 18month old twins thinking they would get loads of use as they grow up. To be honest they are too heavy for our girls and now that they're 2yr old, they are still quite heavy so a few times they've dropped them on their toes! But as a product for older kids (prob 3+) I feel these are a lovely product. Our girls do play with them daily though and get loads of fun out of them. I've noticed a few chips in the wood edges so not as durable as I thought they would be so they may start looking a bit "well-used" sooner than I expected. Solid product and lovely set. Delivery was excellent as well.

These are really nicely made and good value for the priceThe pans are very robust. The lids are interchangeable, but don't fit the large frying pan, which foxes my 2 year old.I bought this for the pans, but the utensils and oven glove are well made. The glove was an unexpected success - son insists on wearing it when opening the oven which is something I'm happy to encourage. These were bought to replace the plastic pans that came with a toy kitchen and I'm very pleased with that decision. In particular, they are heavy enough to stay put and not to tip over when placed on the cooker.

Bought this to go with my little girls kitchen for Christmas. My husband didn’t want metal pots and pans but I wanted them to look “real”. This set was the perfect compromise - made of plastic but looks smart with her John Lewis kitchen. The pots are a decent size. She loves putting the baking trays and the casserole type pots into the oven and the salt and pepper have been a big hit. I would buy this again in an instant if I had a present to buy. We actually bought 2 sets so that she has 4 plates, cups and cutlery for when her friends come round to play.

My two year old granddaughter was delighted with this set and played with it from the moment she had it unwrapped and for the rest of the day (alongside some related presents such as play food and plates).I'm confused about the age 3+ rating as there are no small parts. The oven glove was a nice idea but she could not actually hold anything once it was on her hand.Small quibble, the paint on one of the lids had stuck it to the pot. Once unstuck this left a small chip in the paintwork on the pot but this did not detract from the play value.

I bought these for my 18 month old daughter, she loves playing with them, putting all sorts of food mixtures in them to make delicious stews and them! She loves that they have lids to place on and off, great for hand eye coordination development, and they are nice and heavy which makes them feel more 'real', and noisy!Very often I will peep in and see her putting the oven glove on to get things out of her toy oven and put them into the pans, it is so cute to watch! She uses all 3 pans and all the utensils, it is a brilliant item!

This is a little bit more plasticy than you generally associate with the Melissa & Doug brand, though as if you use it with real food it will need cleaning afterwards, that is understandable. Otherwise, it's a finely detailed and comprehensive playset that will represents good play value, and you can incorporate into other playsets, like their food toys and oven set. It hasn't got the 'heritage' quality of a lot of M&D stuff, where you could put it away for your grandchildren to enjoy, but it's a good toy.

Bought these to go with daughters kitchen for Christmas. They are surprisingly sturdy and well built, and the oven glove is a hit!My only slightly negative comment is that on the smaller frying pan style toy there is a label that is stuck on which once removed leaves a sticky residue that is a nightmare to get off, I never understand when manufacturers/retailers use labels that are glued on so much that it leaves marks etc!I'm overall impressed with this brand will look out for more going forward!
