I love Melissa & Doug products and I can honestly say that this one has not disappointed. It was a little bit daunting opening the massive box(!) and seeing all the pieces laying there (see pic) but with a steady hand, a lot of patience and time, it's totally worth it. I was astounded at how easy and straight forward this was to assemble. I actually enjoyed it. Instructions suggest 2 people but I managed to build it by myself. (Why can't all self assembly products be like this?) The instructions are clear and easy to follow and not only include step by step pictures but also tips like don't screw too tight yet and to place items with the groove facing up etc. These are generally mistakes I make when doing self assembly but I didn't make one single mistake with this item! Each piece is quality built and the final structure is solid. Everything is included to build it except a Philips Head screwdriver which you need to supply yourself. The individual pieces are clearly labelled alphabetically and follow a pattern. eg insert A into B etc. You absolutely cannot go wrong. It did take me 2 hours to build it but I was really careful and patient and took my time. The only problem I had was at the very end when I was left with 2 long screws and 2 small screws. Instructions call for the conveyor belt to be fitted down with the 2 small screws but I found them too small to work so I used the 2 long ones I had left instead and they worked much better. I doubt it's an error in the instructions but just my personal opinion. I also found the fridge door quite fiddly to fit and I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out although the kid is pleased with it!Every little detail has been thoroughly thought out - from the real working conveyor belt (no batteries needed you use a crank) to the little plastic label clips that fit onto the shelves. There is a till shelf underneath. And the scanner is quality made and very sweet. Unusually for Melissa & Doug toys, the scanner does require 2 x AA batteries however I have decided not to use them and it has affected play at all. It also includes a little Magnadoodle-type screen and a magnet 'pen' so you can write on the screen. The overall size is smaller than I thought it would be which is probably a good thing as it's in the middle of the playroom. Because it includes play on all sides this is not something you can really push up against a wall so you can access all sides but you can fit at least 2 or 3 children playing on it simultaneously. I'm assuming it's aimed at nurseries and pre-schools but no reason why you couldn't have this in your home if you have space for it. You need about a 2 square metre foot space for it. Although it's sturdy it is still light and can be moved around in carpet if you wish. It's the right height for my large 3 year old. She's been playing with it for hours and hours.Melissa & Doug provide an accessory pack (available separately) for this supermarket https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073FCG1WG Although it's not essential to have the extra set it does go perfectly with the supermarket set and includes a magazine rack that clips onto the shelf. You can of course use any of your own plastic or wooden food and money works just as well.I would highly recommend this supermarket set. It's brilliant value for money and will encourage tonnes of role play for many years to come.

Purchased Oct 2015, Reveiwed Dec 2015Purchased this for my 5 year old son who loves to go shopping with me :DI did consider buying this some time ago, but I didn't only because I feared it would be a waste of money... now that we have it, I wish I had bought it sooner. My son loves it, and he loves doing the shopping with it too.It definately makes him happier to be more involved in the big monthly shop (or bi-weekly smaller shopping depending where we go lol). Not that my son was a rascal before, but now he is even more well behaved than before and he loves the attention he gets when using it lol.Now some people will buy this only to be used at home... that's great too if you have a lot of space, but we chose not to do this for this trolley as my son used his previous plastic one at home to store things in.. and we have storage boxes for that purpose :)Anyway, this is very well made and very sturdy indeed. Now upon putting it together I first wondered why the trolley basket doesn't extend all the way to the front of the wheels just like on a full suze trolley, but afterwards I found it to be perfect as it leaves enough space for the parent to put your foot down on it to stop it from moving (like a brake). Which is great for making sure your child doesn't run off pushing the trolley all over the place if you don't want them too :DThe other thing is the actual size of the basket... now it may look a little small in our eyes, but it's a good size for kids to put things in without it getting to heavy (which would also enable the brakes) and believe me, my son knows how to organise his shopping to put the most in it as possible lol.Oh and one last thing.... the handle bar can easily be unscrewed so that you can put your own label/message/name tag under the plastic cover of the handle (just like they put the stores name on it) which makes it even more personal for your child - Great!!Overall I give this 5 Stars... It will last a long time!Hope that helps and thanks for looking:D

This is a beautifully made 'wooden' (coated MDF, in reality) larger scale role play toy. When built, it's sturdy, generally well made, solid-feeling, and gives a role play space with plenty of room to share - making this a good toy for families with multiple children, for adult-child interaction, for having friends over to play, and potentially for group setting (childminder/playgroup/nursery) use. Although this is a fairly large and pricey set, the supermarket doesn't include any play food, or the magazine rack display attached to the top counter in some of the product photos (the ones shown are sold as a separate set from the brand). The Fresh Mart Grocery Store is delivered flat packed. It arrives in an intimidatingly large box - but the parts don't occupy more than about half of the overall area: this has a lot of safety packaging around the pieces to keep them safe and secure in transit - which worked, as nothing was received damaged. However, I was left with an entire bin bag full of non-recyclable plastic packaging after unboxing this, and whilst the box was generally a discreet plain card, a large picture sticker had been added to one side by the manufacturer, making it possible to clearly identify the contents... even for the not yet literate. If you’re trying to keep this a surprise for e.g. a birthday, it’s probably best to keep your little one/people away from the door when this turns up.The assembly instructions are good, (on the one I received, not quite as good as those for the same brand's Star Diner, which had each of the panels clearly identified with letter stickers, but did have hardware pieces presented in a labelled packet) and was clearly depicted and described at each stage. This can be built by one person (by design) and the only piece of assembly equipment necessary that's not supplied is a Philips head screwdriver - I didn't even have to seek out a box of bits, the double ended bit that came with my drill/driver worked fine.

This really is a remarkable play item - it really can't be called a "toy" in my world! It is very substantial in all senses of the word. It is large - the counter is nearly 90 cms long and the merchandise unit is over 100 cms high. The box is large and not lightweight. It will take anyone a while to assemble. Other than a screwdriver screws etc are provided together with a small spanner, dowels etc. Anyone who has tacked IKEA type construction should be ok with it but do allow some time. However once done this makes a very sturdy play area that should last a long time and have a value when the children have grown up if you have space for it in a home. There is a scanner/calculator/credit card machine. There is a cash draw and shelf labels. The conveyor belt works. There is a fridge freezer unit (not real). It can be played at from both sides. For any child who likes playing shops this is probably close to "as good as it gets"!As others have said there is no cash for the till (though apparently so few transaction are cash these days that may simply be a reflection of reality). There are no goods to sell however it probably wouldn't be hard to stock it in an imaginative way - just remember the freezer doesn't work though :). A fairly large accessories pack is available if you really want to push the boat out.It is a substantial price however it is a substantial product. I think my main concern would be simply space. This is going to take up quite a bit of space in any room. I doubt many houses would have the space to leave it in place. As such it may be more appropriate to multi child play areas/nurseries and the like. For home use I would suggest careful consideration of the size of this. If you have the space to leave it built - a playroom or the like - great. However I'd not want to take it apart once it has been built. The little ones loved it, the parents worried about getting the room back.

This Melissa & Doug Freshmart set is made as an accessory pack to the Freshmart grocery store https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07322QNP7 but also works as a standalone grocery shopping essentials pack too. There are 70 plus pieces in the set and a couple of them only work with the freestanding store eg the magazine and snack rack clips onto the shelf (see my pic). Also there is a shelf clip for the Freshmart employee of the week and special offers reversible sign. All the food boxes come flat and you have to assemble them yourself (really easy to do) They are made from very thick cardboard which will withstand quite a lot of abuse but eventually will get destroyed if not taken care of (or sat on!).I love the attention to detail with the food and the labels are very recognisable. There are a couple of cardboard tins with removable lids. An apron with a removable sign Hello my name is in a little pocket. A fabric shopping tote bag. A wooden lane closed sign. An open sign and some special offer signs.Charge card and savings card plus a gift card in packaging and a magazine. All the signs and the magazine are made out of a very thick and durable vinyl plastic which makes them long lasting and also means that they are washable and you can use a washable marker pen on them (not included). My particular favourite items are the wooden bubble gum, 2 snack bars and lip balm. So cute and realistic. These and the magazine fit in the grab and go shelf. Also included is a tonne of play money both paper notes and plastic coins. Most of these items can be used without the need to have the grocery store and can be used for any role playing with a till etc. Would be especially good for nurseries and preschools to encourage role play. Very good value for money.

I like this role play set, designed to accompany the large wooden Melissa and Doug Fresh Mart supermarket set, but easily useable for retail-based role play without this. The set includes a range of different types of play pieces - some wooden (including a packet of gum, a granola bar, and a lip salve), some fabric (an apron and a reusable shopping bag), some plastic (play money coins and a couple of food can with opening lids), and some paper and card (including play money notes and food package cartons). The range of pieces is really good, including things that often aren't included in role play sets - such as queue line and newsagent style items, a name badge for a shop staff member to wear, pretend gift cards, a checkout divider, and coupons in addition to money for customer use. The play money is US-currency based, with notes and coins in dollars and cents. Some of the pieces aren't the most durable as they're cardboard boxes (supplied flat with instructions for correct folding to make them up) - but you can always add your own saved packages to increase the range and number of items for sale and make up for any tattier boxes.

This is an absolutely wonderful play Grocery Store for children. Some self-assembly is required, but the instructions were good and it was simple to put together. Once assembled (it took me just over half an hour) this felt very solid and would undoubtedly be great for a nursery, or play group, as well as for individual use. It really would withstand a lot of play. So, what does it come with? Well, sadly no food or other accessories for the shop are included, although you can buy them separately. Also, there is no money for the till. You do get a toy credit card, a scanner which beeps and a belt, to move the food along, which you can wind, so it moves. This is fairly expensive, but it will last for years and will encourage imaginative and role play. Accessories are fairly cheap, or, indeed, you can just empty your kitchen cupboards and provide some food. There are labels to attach to the shelves, so customers can find things, as well as a little toy fridge, to keep those bottles of milk and other produce, which needs to be kept cold. Great fun, well made and a huge hit with my testers, who think it is absolutely brilliant.

I bought this for my just 2 year old, determined daughter. She is very independant and always wants to push the trolley when we go shopping without any help. She's not tall enough or strong enough to do this and shopping was becoming more of a challenge every time we went. We've only used this once, but so far so good! The trolley was big enough for fit quite a few items in - bit smaller than a shopping basket. It's not going to maks shopping any quicker - every other person wanted to stop to chat about it asking where it was from etc - maybe I could go on commission! Hopefully though there will be less tears and crossness - hers- and less occasions when I go to the checkout before I've finished to try and avoid a total melt down (again her not me!).Be wonderful to get to the freezers and if we can get as far as the wine then my life will be transformed! It's very strong, very sturdy my little girl has climbed on and in it and generally been an adrenalin junky and it looks like it will last for many many years.

This trolley is worth that little extra expense as it offers superior quality for its price in comparison to alot of toys made nowadays. It is well made and sturdy compared to many of the other flimsy/plastic shopping trolleys we have looked at, and should definitely withstand the use and abuse of our toddler. We were considering buying our 16 month old a stroller or pram for christmas but after testing many out in various toy shops with her, we discovered that many of them were too lightweight and easily tipped downward at the handles as our daughter pushed them around causing her to either fall forward or just become unsteady on her feet. This trolley offers the stability we were looking foras it is virtually impossible to tip it in any direction unless it is an adult applying alot of pressure! The front wheels also swivel making it alot easier to manoeuvre, unlike many of the other trolleys that just have fixed wheels. This was an excellent buy, you WONT be disappointed!

This set goes with the Melissa & Doug Fresh Mart Free Standing Grocery Store. You can use this as a play set on its own, but certain parts, such as the magazine rack and the ‘Employee of the Week’ card, do clip onto the grocery story. Obviously, you can use them independently, but this is a lovely companion set to the Grocery Store. You receive a Magazine Rack, with all sorts of little accessories, such as snacks and magazines, to buy, an apron, shopping and a divider for the conveyer belt, an activity card – showing the ‘Employee of the Week!” which would work really well in a nursery setting, some play money (American, so you could easily get some English play money), some play food – mostly fold up boxes (again, play food is very cheap to get, so you can add to this). Overall, a lovely set and the apron and magazine rack are quite unusual. Overall, a lovely toy, which is a great addition to the Grocery Store.

My 6yr old son is obsessed with playing shops! But like most boys he can be rough and grumble and most other shop trolleys are cheaply made and haven't lasted long before broken. Also like many boys his age he hates to go shopping! So when I saw this I thought it looked fab! But was dubious about spending so much on a trolley! Well I'm not sorry I did. It's even better once out of the box! Well built and very sturdy, it's a great size and my 6yr old doesn't look too big pushing it around. Also with him being older he recognises that's it's very realistic to the trolley that mummy pushes about at the shops. He's had his favourite teddy in the seat and every shopping trip since has been hassle free!I only wish I'd found this sooner, we get loads of comments in store too. I'd recommend it to anyone it's been money well spent.

This trolley is really sturdy. It is easy to move around thanks to the swivel wheels, and little stabilising legs for when adventurous toddlers attempt to climb into it. My grandson is 22 months old and plays with this constantly. It looks just like the full sized trolleys at our local supermarket and other children and adults all admire it. My grandson can't wait for our next outing as he wants to bring along his trolley! This trolley may seem more expensive than other ones on sale but the quality of this one far exceeds the others. We had a cheaper plastic trolley first that we bought from a major toy store and it only withstood a couple of weeks use by a toddler. This trolley will last a long time and is better value for money than the plastic ones. I would definitely recommend this as a great buy.

Looked around for a considerable time before purchasing this trolley.Checked out other companies matching products but to be honest it was a 'no contest' buy.Bought for my 2 year old grandson, who is a bit of a loose cannon when it comes to wheeled toys, but this product is virtually indestructible. It gets rammed into everything (including me) so if you have a child that is similar to my grandson I would suggest that perhaps a bit of planing regarding protecting valuable or vulnerable décor or items is instituted. The trolley is also very safe as the support legs help prevent a child who attempts to ride or climb on the front of the trolley tipping over. All in all a great product, well made and not over expensive when you compare against other similar products.

I bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter on her birthday. She was almost speechless with delight which was very gratifying. It is much smaller than I imagined and therefore the perfect height for a 3 year old and practical for the typical household. It arrived flat packed and was easily assembled using the enclosed tools. It is very robust and well thought out. Which is lucky as my Gdaughter immediately began using it as a ram raider smashing into all the hall doors! The cart section is too small for a child to climb into which is a safety feature that I hadn't considered until my Gdaughter climbed into her dolls pram and tipped it over! All in all I think this is worth the price and I have no regrets about choosing this item over other cheaper models.

We bought this as a birthday present for our little boy, he absolutely loves it and is having hours of fun with it. The set up was straight forward, all the pieces have a letter sticker and the instruction booklet was easy to follow. The quality is outstanding, all the little details, moving conveyor belt, chip and pin machine, till drawer. We love Melissa and Doug toys as you get what you pay for and always to a high standard, a toys that will last. We also purchased the add on pack, it has an apron, food, next customer sign, counter accessories, money employee of the week sign, etc. we would definitely recommend this as you need all the extras as it really completes the set.All in all we would definitely recommend this, you won’t be disappointed.
