I haven't played a Madden properly since Madden NFL 12 as sports titles don't really seem to differ. In terms of presentation this is the best Madden to date and while I missed out on last year and the debut of Charles Davis and Brandon Gaudin as the new commentators they are both excellent. Not only that but as last year the commentary is dynamically updated throughout the season and this helps you immerse you in the experience all the more.What helps break that immersion? Well, as in years past the CPU and its decisions are rather dodgy at times. For instance, they will run out routes or have receivers that run to the outside and then out of bounds which prevents them from getting the first down rather than the player and defense actually impacting the play.The tackling is also suspect at times and particularly in the running game where it feels like the CPU will just warp into you or as if the outcome is already pre-determined. Blocking is still far from perfect where sacks or hits on the quarterback are still far too easy or frequent. All or most of these issues have plagued Madden throughout the years.EA Sports has focused on pretty graphics as per usual, and the game is one of the best looking games on Xbox One. There is also a huge focus on Ultimate Team and microtransactions which make a ton of money for the publisher and more so than the actual game itself which is a criticism of the modern video game industry. Franchise mode where I find most of my own enjoyment has the same nucleus as previous versions but it has been streamlined visually and you do feel as though you're playing your own season where scores around the league and the announcing make you feel as though you're part of something bigger. That said, it is still bare bones or light on the extensive detail that franchise mode lovers would like to see and isn't close to say the NBA 2K series in its control of a franchise and what you can do. AI logic is getting better but it's still not as good as it should be for trades etc. I still enjoy it though and its much better than when I last seriously played it in Madden NFL 12. Although it has now featured for years the skills trainer is another welcome addition and for newcomers and veterans to the series alike.Online was not tested for the purpose of this review but I know that EA servers can be a nightmare. Online is primarily used for taking your Ultimate Team online but as a game mode it has limited interest for me. The new mode in Madden NFL 18 is Longshot where you take control of Devin Wade in his quest for NFL stardom. This is taking from the FIFA series and Alex Hunter's journey which I can't comment on in terms of how good or bad that was as I haven't played it. Anyway, Longshot features Dan Marino and Jack Ford who stands out in terms of performance, in a typical rags to riches story. It's alright for what it is but overall is severely lacking in any form of depth. The story takes you up to the NFL Draft where you have very little control in how it shakes out. I get the impression that EA Sports is testing this out to see feedback and perhaps improve the mode in the future. Longshot is a small diversion but it's not anything spectacular at all.---Summary--- (Ratings out of 10)Graphics - 10 - Outstanding. There is some motion blur but EA Sports always pulls off fidelity and graphical detail superbly well with models, teams and stadiums all looking like real life.Sound - 8 - As stated the commentary is fantastic and is one of the strongest areas of the game. As far as other sound goes a lot of it is recycled but it does the job. The soundtrack is hideous but can be turned off and is down to individual tastes.Gameplay - 7 - The same old problems persist and not enough attention is made on the little things. It's now a lot easier to score or be scored against than in previous versions but this may have been the case last year. Overall though it's relatively fun to play.Lifespan - 8 - Pretty good. Both Connected Franchise and Ultimate Team will keep you busy and likely until the next season rolls around.As far as a package goes, Madden NFL 18 is good and I have heard it said it's like Madden NFL 17.5. This is likely true with no major additions or updates. If you've not played Madden last year I would buy it if you're a fan of American football certainly. If on the other hand you did play Madden NFL 17 it is harder to recommend. It feels as good as Madden has ever been with the exception of franchise mode which has undoubtedly regressed in terms of depth from yesteryear.

I'm a hardcore franchise player, always have been so i cannot write for the MUT experience, i just don't like that! As for the realism & the franchise side of things, the game is solid, the graphics have been fantastically updated & look glorious on all the right equipment. The gameplay, as always for the Madden franchise is second to none, but still a few graphical glitches for me stop this from getting a 5/5 star rating. The game's titles have been going for so long now, you'd have thought they'd have ironed out the same, silly glitches...but maybe that's just me being synical & just wanting everything perfect!? The game is much more like a broadcast version, polished graphics & definately an upgrade on previous versions.The franchise is still largely the same as of previous years (I'm playing the owner mode) & could definately use an upgrade, but somehow still keeps you interested long enough to see out a few seasons of rebuilding & upgrading your chosen side. I've played through about 75% of the story mode aswell, it had me pleasantly surprised, as i didn't think i'd enjoy it at all...but if it went on longer & maybe added a college side of things it would see even more appeal!? Again, Madden 18 is a class act & rules anything NFL these days, for any fan of the game, however experienced or new you are, enjoy...

Much improvements. Liking the new game play (and can even have a running game). My main bug beta though is the same as always:The owner mode needs a major overhaul. They should make it int more of a management role than just the same as coach but with a couple extra powers. I mean how many owners do you see on the sideline running the game.Also from owner mode. More staff required. Bring in offensive and defence and special teams coordinators.One last thing is to do with relocation and new stadiums. There are teams with run down stadiums that no matter how much is spent on it can't be made into a respectable level. The only option is to relocate or to build a new stadium. There are.A few teams though that if you build a new stadium you are going to lower the capacity. So more variation and control on the stadium should be included. Also more control on team colours and uniforms would be appreciated.

A master piece in American football.Frostbite makes this incredible. The soundtrack is amazing.This is madden at its best. The graphics are immense, and the gameplay is smooth and brilliant.They have changed some things. The menus are more industrial looking, and the game now makes you choose a play style. Which is no bad thing.LONGSHOT MODE.This is more movie than game. It's very immersive, and graphically brilliant. To be honest I like it, but it's a bit slow. I wish there was more football in it.Anyway, this is the best madden so far!

A fantastic football game. Great commentary. Probably the best I've encountered on any sports game. Nice graphics and lighting. Really immersive broadcast. The only small gripe is that I wish EA would update the in game scoreboard like NBA Live. It needs refreshing and would change the look of the match day experience. Otherwise a fantastic game with many different settings and difficulties to support all levels of player.

Another solid installment of the franchise. The story mode is food for a playthrough with a few fun mini games. Its actually quite good for new players too to help get to grips with the game.I love how deep the training section of this game is. Even a complete noob will have decent skills after going through the various missions.

Great in depth game. Being new to American football it really helps you get to grips with the mechanics of the game plus with arcade mode makes it more accessible to new comers. The constantly updated commentary makes it feel like you're watching a live game. Overall a great buy regardless of how long it takes to install.

The update to the frostbite engine makes a big difference the o line play is improved my only major issue is the ai quaterback play. They never throw into tight coverage or make errors in judgement making playing as a defensive back pretty dull ive not seen a qb make a rushed pass whilst under pressure

Okay so madden 18 I'm impressed so far it's running on frostbite engine it looks amazing I'd say better looking than FIFA 17 longshot is really good I'm enjoying it a lot so far I haven't really tried MUT yet but seriously it's a lot better than 17 definitely pick this up so much fun to be had

Franchise mode could realy do with an upgrade as it's the same as its been for ages. Everything else is great quality! Sharp game play, new phrases added to the commentary and an all new story mode called The Long shot. All in all realy good fun

Really good game, and if you have not played before there is a great training section so if you don't know the rules it makes it easily accessible to beginners - highly recommend if you like sports games and looking for something different.

Longshot story is a bit X Factor so I quickly got bored of that, but gameplay is best yet. New pass dynamics take some getting used to the aiming but when you master it, any player can receive the ball, so not just limited to WR or RB

My first Madden game for 15 years and I’m not disappointed. Having just started to get back into NFL it’s helped me understand aspects of the game better. Just a shame the Longshot was so short and disappointing.

Its a really good game the gameplay is awesome and the game has arrived Early its well highly recommended if you enjoy NFL Franchise. If your new to the game keep practising like me you will keep getting better

Played the entire longshot story in one run. really enjoyed the game and continuing to play ultimate team now, great replay value, enjoy completing the solo challenges and are worth it due to the rewards
