Another Madden in the books! Over the course of the last fifteen years, I've become a bit of a fence sitter with this series. NFL 2K5 is still probably my favourite NFL game but until now I'm not quite sure...I skipped last year's Madden for the first time in over ten years, purely on the basis that the game was becoming stale and bland. As dubious as I was about this rendition of Madden, my curiosity overcome me. Luckily enough, having an EA access account, I tried the 6 hr trial out.Graphically I was pretty amazed by it, the lighting, stadiums, refections on helmets, kits and player likeliness. Physics are a lot better than in other Madden games, but still need tweaking. The biggest gripe I had with the game was the reaction time and interceptions of the CPU's defence. This became frustrating really fast, for example if your receiver does an 'in' route, the CB will jump in front of the receiver (while he stands there looking gormless) and intercept the pass. This happened loads to the point where I was thinking of not even buying the game out of sheer frustration.Thankfully, I did buy the game. As all Madden games have is a comprehensive settings system, including game sliders for every single thing in the game.As interceptions were so frequent, I turned them down to 22, thus making it more realistic and I also turned down the reaction time of the defence, giving more realism, making the CPU act with human error here and there. The presentation is very slick, it can feel a little cold at times by having this chrome look to everything in the home menu. But overall, the in game presentation is very close to the games you watch in the NFL...Fade outs as if going to a commercial break in timeouts and end of quarters etc. Also, it now has a half time show, which is pretty good, but still nothing compared to something like NBA 2K14. If a player is playing particularly well in a game, it will have a quick in-game presentation of them doing what they've been doing throughout the game, which is pretty cool.Jim Nance and Phil Simms provide the commentary and to be honest....It's crap! It sounds very forced and unnatural, the only positive thing I can say about it is that, there is more dialogue in this Madden than the previous ones (not sure if that's a good or bad thing...). Sticking with the audio side of things, the crowd noises are pretty authentic, each home crowd having it's set of unique chants, also the cadence of the quarterbacks are all the real cadence's of their real life counter-parts, touches like this go a long way in sports games.Anyway, enough of the aesthetics of the game and let me tell you about the gameplay and modes etc.Connected franchise is in Madden 15 again, which I've always thought is a cool idea, whether you decide to play in the same franchise as a friend online or on your own. It includes playing as a coach, player or general manager of a team, which all have unique goals in them for you to do.Also an arcady kind of thing, which I haven't tried yet called 'The Gauntlet'. Which consists of certain challenges and you level up and go against a boss at the end of each level. Skill trainer is another mode, this will help you get to grips with the new system in Madden, which has slightly been modified for the better.Within the game players movements and the ball physics are more realistic. The defense also has had an overhaul, implementing a new camera which faces the opposite team's quarterback. Also, switching players nearer the ball handler is easier than before and defenders now have a cone of vision, which gives you an insight into a tackling range. It feels a lot better than the previous versions of the game, giving you something to really sink your teeth into whilst playing defense. Players attributes will show up in the gameplay too, for example on offense you can find a mismatch and take advantage of it, these things all add to the realism of the game. A new play calling system is in the game now, with little things like being able to change the tempo of which the game runs at, if your on offense.Overall, this is the best Madden yet, although it still has some problems that linger with the AI, these problems can be dumbed down a bit with the help of the settings and game sliders. If your an NFL fan, this game is a must buy and if your not a fan it is still worth a purchase if your interested in the sport, the skills trainer is a good place to learn about the more complexities of the sport (coverages, play calling, routes etc). Graphically it is impressive, although I have noticed a few hiccups here and there on the sidelines, with sloppy animations but other than that, its very lush.Gameplay 4/5Sound 3/5Graphics 4/5As a side note for all of you who want realistic Madden gameplay, here are my game and slider settings:-Skill level-PROQuarter length-11 minsAccelerated clock-ONMinimum play clock-20Game speed-Normal (this doesn't change the clock speed, just the speed of that the players move)GAME SLIDERSWith the player skill sliders keep them at the presets apart from:-Pass blocking-55Interceptions-40CPU skill (again anything that isn't mentioned is a preset)Qb Accracy-51Pass Blocking-27WR Catching-36Run Blocking-48Pass Reaction-34Interceptions-22Pass Coverage-40Game optionsInjuries-15Fatigue-58Min player speed threshold-70In one way or another you will need to go to this option to tweak the game, otherwise you may get as frustrated as I was when I first start playing, but I hope these are a good starting point for anyone.

So I started playing the Madden series in 1988 when I regularly watched my childhood idol Randal Cunningham throw 90 yard touchdown passes. The very first Madden game was released for the C64, and I loved it.Over the years I've dipped in and out of the series, and also of the NFL. In the past 5 years or so I've watched the odd NFL game, but really haven't given it much attention. In that time I bought Madden 11 and Madden 13 for the Xbox 360. I enjoyed them for a while but grew bored.A few weeks ago I caught an NFL game and found a desire to pick up Madden again. So as Madden 15 had just been released for the Xbox One I grabbed a copy.First thing to note, the visuals and overall presentation are brilliant.Very realistic and very much like a real US broadcast of a game.In terms of gameplay, for the first time ever I found myself kind of enjoying Defense. There are some mechanisms to allow for some activity on the line of scrimmage and I enjoyed being a big ass guy dominating and sacking the QB.Offense is similar but a little more free flowing.I played the Franchise mode and very much enjoyed it. It was a challenge but not one I couldn't overcome. I started with the Pro difficulty but found it too easy, then switched up to All-Pro which is tough, There's a little inconsistency with the difficulty setting with some teams absolutely killing me, and others rolling over. This didn't appear to correspond with the quality of that team. One thing I notice with this version is passing is really difficult. The accuracy of the QB is off, making it more realistic and much tougher to get to 1st down. I found myself punting the ball away much more than I used to. One thing that really started to bother me was that my QB's confidence started to drop as he threw more and more interceptions and incomplete passes. Once this happens, your team goes into a downward spiral which is really hard to get out of. Maybe my lack of understanding of how the game works is to blame here as Franchise mode has become much more complex than it used to be.The overall usability of the menus and the game modes is a frustration. I found myself saying 'what does that mean?' quite often when faced with a choice. Perhaps a lack of NFL knowledge, but I found myself wanting a streamlined league mode I could play without the complexities. There are so many different settings for how you want the game to work. I've never seen so many settings in a game before, ever. Who knows what half of them do, and who has the time to work it out?Overall I'd say this is the most rounded, fun to play Madden in a long time. But the menu system and the complexity of the game can get in the way of just playing the game. There's an in-depth training mode at the start of the game which is really helpful to remind you how to play if your returning to the game after a break. If you've never played before, then I would recommend you spend the time learning in here as you will enjoy the game so much more. When I bought it I thought I may trade it after a couple of weeks for Forza Horizon, but now I've played it I'm addicted and want to keep this in my collection.

This is the best Madden game for years. Almost every aspect of the game is an improvement on last year’s game.Based on the Xbox One version of the game the first thing you will notice on entering your first game is just how excellent the presentation is and like all American sports it always a bit OTT.The graphics are amazing and the way the light shines on the players helmets sometimes make it look as if your watching a live game on channel 4.If you new to Madden then don't dive in and play your first match right way,use the Skills Trainer and free practice and hone your skills before you take the pitch.Been playing Madden since 1991 and this maybe the best since then.

When buying, always remember that it wont be perfect straight away, Madden is unique in the sense that you must adjust it to the way you play and you play alone. With a little help of the sliders and a tweak of the settings you can really make this the most immersive version of Madden yet, no complaints. Hooked on it yet again. For the first time i am finding that when looking at stats my team is on par with everyone else. My MLB is up there on the tackle count and my QB is battling it out in the top 5 of the QB's and my RB having the same number of attempts as the rest. In previous versions this enver happened. Work at it, and Madden 15 is the real deal.

This game is good and has some really good improvements, especially in the way that you can develop your players in franchise mode (connected franchise). There are also some changes to player dynamics, tackling etc as advertised which are all good and work well. However, as one previous reviewer states, a lot of the cinematic changes are not evident on the PS3 version which is a little disappointing as this was not explained by EA before release. Overall the game is good and works well but I think next year I will be forced to upgrade to a PS4 and the next-gen series as new features are simply being withheld from the PS3 gen.

I haven't played the Madden series since about 2003, so I was expecting big things, and it delivered. Crisp and realistic gameplay. Only downside is that every now and then the players get a 'wire' look about them and it stays with them for the rest of that match. Nothing dramatic but seeing the Atlanta Falcons in their red kit with what likes a black wire mesh over the top of their kit just took the shine off for me.Otherwise superb game.

Having enjoyed the Madden franchise for over 10 years, I was really looking forward to the next gen entry. I was not disappointed. Graphically it looks great, smooth and very detailed. Gameplay is also smooth, and with the added addition of more control and time spent on defensive plays (multiple camera angles and controls) the whole game has improved.

It is a very goo d game but whats lets it down is that the connected franchise mode which i was looking forward to seeing what they had done to improve it because i really enjoyed it on madden 25 but it is exactly the same. Don't let this put you off though its a great game and really enjoyable

5.9.2014

Awesome game, graphics are now next generation, and look much better than Madden 25. Improved defensive controls make defending a play much more fun.Really good indepth skills trainer for those who may not be too familiar with grid iron.I love this game!!

13.7.2015

Very good game. Career mode is enjoyable and a good length, as with all EA Sports games there is Ultimate team to build your dream NFL team and compete against others online. Price has dropped, and for people into american sports it is worth a buy.

This game plays really well, bought it after developing an interest in the NFL playoffs and didn't want to pay the extra for the new one but this one is great and certainly good enough for a first time madden player
