AC Valhalla was a most antecipated release for me, since I love everything with "Viking" on it. After playing recently Origins and finishing Odyssey, I finally got my copy and anxiously installed AC Valhalla in my PS4 PRO.Disappointing at first. Norway feels empty of quests, lots of space without nothing to do, same goes for the first zones in England. Graphic wise it's a marvel, perhaps even better than Odyssey (except for statue details- on that department Origins was the winner over both). After playing Odyssey till the end, this game seems shallow, rushed in, to make it on time for Christmas. You don't rush a game like this, more 6 months in development and it would be as good as Odyssey, but it isn't.They tried too hard to mimic RDR2 in some aspects, only to fall short on previous installments.Playing on PS4 PRO in 4K - with almost 200 hours in, this is my honest review so far.Strong points:- beautiful graphics, wonderful in 4k- improved combat system (more options and animations than previous games)- settlement build-up- skill-tree discovery- beautiful soundtrack by Wardruna- "dream-like" missions on lands of the Aesir- Eivor is an interesting, charismatic character and so are some other companions he meet- you can raid villages and castles with your crew- Orlog board game is fun- Careful selected viking art and lore in the game (can't agree with some God's options though - Odin is blind on the right eye, not the left - check your lore)- Some additional mini events are in (stone circles, pilling up stones, cursed zones, etc.)Poor points:- Norway and first maps of England feel empty- shallow/too short secondary missions (90% are 1-5 minute missions without sense)- plot is ridiculous (alliances with every zone in England - really?)- anomalies are the most annoying excuse to play "Isu" missions, disrupting the overall ancient feeling/flow of the game- Isu weapons - common... again this crap? Thank you for ruining the aspect of high-end weapons- bugs everywhere- boat feels useless - I was expecting at least some missions on sea- sea feels void of creatures, no missions to explore its deeps, rare missions/items underwater- status feels vague, I never get to know what exactly the numbers mean? (I have 80+ critical, really?)- shops don't let you see items description and status of weapons (what the hell)- can't change the appearance of clothes like previous games (so I either dress with an armor that I don't like, or just don't upgrade the armor cause it's ugly at high levels or use the only one I like)- mercenaries are useless (but strangely have customized options for armors and weapons)- England is small... common, you don't even cover Scotland and you could have made this huge- horse combat is gone.... (what can I say?)- no 1 handed swords, really? But you can wield fantasy 2h ones, or daggers... when a sword was a viking's most prized possession- terrible AI - even after more than 40 years of game development, you still can't figure out an interesting, alert AI for npcs- npcs in towns are for the most majority, dead and don't react to you (even in your settlement - there's even this shieldmaiden who's meager life is looking at a map...)- nigh/day cicle is pointless (why not dynamic creatures, shops, events and npcs according to daytime?)- people do not attack you anymore if you mess up on towns (only guards) - this was fun in Odyssey- your reputation stays the same everywhere if you mess up on towns - it was fun to be persecuted in Odyssey- gone are the hired mercenaries that would search and try to kill you (only roaming knights exist on fixed roads)- unbalanced zone difficulty, when you get to that zone after leveling up, you already over levelled a lot of other zones- game gets repetitive after level 100, doing the same stuff over and over again - the AC formula trap is again here (by end game I could care less about story or whatever, since it's always the same kind of missions, like in Odyssey)I know it's a lot of negative points, but still the game is fun. If you love vikings and AC games, you will like this one, but feels it could improve a LOT in the next months.I would advise to wait 6 months and buy it, when the game feels more "complete". As it is right now, it's not perfect, not even close and can even be irritating to have all this potential, but never achieving the golden status that Odyssey had (but hey, at least they are doing upgrades, unlike in RDR2 on the offline game).Overall 4 out of 5

I've never been one of the "but this isn't Assassins Creed" people, post-Revelations. I enjoyed each one for what it was, I liked the introduction of the pre-Templar "Order of Ancients", thought the move to RPG gameplay was fine and I got many, many hours of enjoyment from seemingly one of the least liked games in the franchise – Odyssey.Having completed Valhalla I can now see the flaws in Odyssey clearly, and what this game has done to not just flatly correct them, but put a whole new spin on the lore of Assassins Creed, taking it in a new exciting direction. It's a much more immersive and deep game. Without going into spoilers I can say that the lore side of things is brilliant – it truly weaves the story of the Isu or "pre-cursors" into the main Viking storyline, and through the use of dream sequences, curious Assassin allies and this sector of the Order of Ancients, the further you get into the game you getting some really satisfying realisations. Let's just say that on a replay you'll see things differently from the start. On the surface you may be fighting mythical beasts in Asgard and Jotunheim, but there's a deeper meaning to it that Odyssey was bereft of in similar settings.Gameplay-wise, despite the obvious tweaks in combat it's still largely the Origins style, though the introduction of enemy weak points is well thought out, as is the stamina and new life mechanics. Levelling has also been improved and the vast Skill Tree is good. The biggest change is the reintroduction of classic AC social stealth and one hit assassinations (which can be tweaked with a new twist in the menu). These mechanics bring you right back into how the Ezio trilogy felt, with Eivor having to hide in plain sight, blend in and use distractions to get around settings that are suspicious of him. The weaponry has thankfully been scaled back immensely from Odyssey, to make the weapons actually seem worthwhile. You can still obtain mythical weapons, and despite being non-essential extras, they are more grounded this time around. You'll see why as you get further along. The graphics whilst not completely mind blowing are fantastic, especially when you're atop a viewpoint looking at the different areas of England. The landscapes are beautiful with subtle details, wildlife and realistic mechanics and lighting which really immerse you.All in all I was ready to get stuck into a violent Viking adventure, but found the game to be much, much more, and not since the Desmond modern day storyline have I been excited to see what happens next.

I'm writing this after 160 hours of game play ... and still am only three quarters of the way through the game . This was bought for me as a Christmas present ... thank god ... as I had reviewed some trailers and rejected it . What a game ! LOVE this period of history . Great graphics .. although it has some glitches ... floating trees .. the odd floating dog ...the main character running round with an arrow permanently stuck to their hand (?). The puzzles are very like Tomb Raider ... and can be quite challenging ... . Loading times are SLOW compared with other games ... and the phrase ' Fast Travel ' is a bit of a joke . You can scroll through the conversations ... but don't .. the scripts are funny ,amusing and sometimes very informative... and relevant to the game plalay and story . The best part of this game is the mysteries . From kids tricking you into a task to lovelorn people asking for aid to woo their sweethearts ... to killing rabbits en masse to save a woman's crops . These little stories will reveal love, hate , treachery ..... Combat is enjoyable... although it does get a bit ' samey ' as in all these sorts of games. The ' fantasy' parts of the game I haven't enjoyed .. and have avoided .. usually triggered by some hallucagenic drink you are offered . I know the game developers can't completely stray away from the original premis of the Assassin games .....but the whole modern day part could be dispensed with .This game is probably the best value game I've ever played .....and would put it in my top five games I've ever played .Buy it ! ......even the music creates an atmosphere . play it with headphones . I haven't played the last four or five Assassins Creed games ... but depending on where the next one is set in history .. I will seriously consider any future games . It's not a big part of the game and doesn't bother me ... but shame they had to put a few ' woke' characters in there ... just to reflect modern attitudes ... certainly , nothing to do with Vikings !

I have not really played or found many games now days where I can play for hours on end without getting bored.I was really looking forward to this game and have been really enjoying it. I think I will do a couple missions or find some collectables/mysteries and before I know it a few hours have passed.I love the Vikings type series of shows and being Viking based I like the raiding/boss fights. With the various abilities and weapons you can really change the style / strategy.I also really like the Valhalla missions. As others have said there are alot of bugs in the game. I have had the game crash multiple times , sometimes during key moments of missions which gets really annoying.I have also had it where walls, ceilings and plants/trees dissapear making it difficult when going through buildings and trying to be stealthy. Some times I've had where you need to search or meet Npc characters for missions and they are not visible. After searching for them and looking it up where the person is and them not showing I've needed to re-start the game for them to appear.I'm really enjoying the game but the bugs really let it down and gets annoying needing to restart it with how long the loading takes. One thing that does annoy me also is when I load up the game or die in a boss fight , when I load back to the check point your character has a drunk effect which effects your character and have to try and wait a minute for the effect to ware off.I'm enjoying the game but the bugs can make it un-playable at times and I should not need to be restarting the game to be able to continue. Hopefully these bugs are sorted which will really improve gameplay.

I have only been playing the game for a few days so it is still early days but this is a step up from the previous entries in the Assassin's Creed series. It is quite different from the previous games, but different for the better. The graphics are incredible with lots of detailed lighting effects a step up from Odyssey. It feels very realistic. There are some things which continue from the previous games, such as looting chests and the quests but overall this feels differen to the previous couple of games. There is not so much assassination and a lot more all out battles. I don't think the changes are necessarily bad, but it doesn't feel like so much like an Assassin's Creed game. The Viking theme, characters and storylines develop the feel of the game and have been well developed.Edit - The Assassin's Creed elements are not fully developed until Eiovor arrives in England. When the game moves to England it develops a lot more and it is a lot more enjoyable and engaging.Eiovor takes part in raids to build up the Viking settlement in England and expand the territory, and it introduces a lot of gameplay elements from previous Assassin's Creed games and it feels more like an AC game.

Well to be honest it feels a tad disappointing on the PS4. The character modelling is quite crude and lip syncing non existent. I keep getting artefacts on the distant mountains and the parkour is a bit hit and miss. It’s certainly not a patch on Origins and Odyssey. Then again they were designed for the PS4 and I am guessing that this game was designed for the next generation of consoles where I am betting it looks and plays much better. The raids are full of teeny characters with tiny hit point bars and it’s hard to lock onto an enemy. In fact I can’t tell who is who, whether it’s my crew or the enemy. Still the character screen looks good and I love the Skill Tree with its tons of nodes. It does look very much inspired by the one from Path of Exile. I am still in the pre credits section in Norway and I am hoping that things will pick up as I unlock more abilities and eventually get to travel to Britain, which for me, is the big draw of the game. Snowy Norway feels a bit like a crude version of Horizons Zero Dawns far superior snow bound levels. Still I am only two hours in. It can only get better, I hope.,

Look, if you've played any of the more recent AC games from the series then you know what you're getting. There's a lot of game here, or 'bang for your buck' as my title reads. Plenty to do and very time-consuming if that's what you're looking for. Probably looking at over 80 hours in the base game alone, probably 100+ really but this is the internet so you know some wazzock is going to come along and say "I did it in 70 hours". Fun times.I've you're unfamiliar with the series then in all honesty I would go play AC Origins and/or AC Odyssey first. Now, don't misunderstand me, you do not NEED to play those games in order to follow the story - they can all be played as stand alone titles - but they are slightly more immersive in my opinion. It is a good game and I'm happy I bought it but it lacks a certain something those other games had (Origins/Odyssey) that I can't quite put my finger on. Having said that it could be my own fault because I bought this in December, played it awhile then put it down over the Christmas/New Year period so maybe I broke my own immersion, like a dope.

Possibly the best game since GTA V. And that's not a statement I make lightly. It's hard to fault anything in this game, and that's incredibly rare for me.This game simply put is like AC Black Flag (my personal favourite until now) and Skyrim had a baby. Beautiful graphics. Huge map with loads of side missions. Decent storyline that keeps you immersed. And you're not pulled out of the animus as often as in some previous AC games which I found annoying. Weapons are not only upgradable but customisable with runes giving specific bonuses depending on your play style. Weapons and armour go along with your chosen skill tree - whether to go smashing through your enemy or stealthily assassinatingthem - or a combination of these of course.Annoyingly I first purchased Watch Dogs - Legion over this - what a mistake that was. Absolutely no competition, this wins hands down in every way.Anyway, I think that's enough praises sung for now...back to the game!

Let me start by saying that this is definitely not next-gen if you buy the Series X edition. Graphics are not much better than Odyssey, and the facial animations are utter garbage. The game itself is immersive to say the least, the map is huge, maybe I'd go as far to say it's too big as I'm 60 hours in and probably at about 50% completion, it's getting a little tedious now and there's still some bugs that aren't allowing me to progress the side quests. Talking of side quests, some of them are just tedious like the offering alters and the animus glitch, they take you out of the immersion and slap up that modern day story arc that no one actually cares about. Its jarring, and breaks immersion imo.Time to just forget about the modern day animus rubbish I think. All in all a great game, but marred by sloppy graphics and annoying bugs.

This is the first game I've pre-ordered and pretty much the first assassins creed game that I've played (thoroughly). About 12 hrs in now and I am really enjoying it. I saw a few videos before it came out and it looked like a game that would really satisfy my interests. And so far it's been very good. Combat is very satisfying, story is good so far and the game looks beautiful. But a few very minor issues: firstly load time is pretty long. Not particularly surprising given the scale of the game but the load times can still be quite long even when, for example, speaking to someone selling items at a shop, which shouldn't take long at all to load. Also a few glitches which have been mentioned a lot in reviews. But for me they've been extremely minor so far. Overall, very good game!

Great game so far about 20 hours in, as somebody who loved oddysey as well it's more or less the same, to address some issues people had with the previous entry it is less grindy, there are level caps where if you are bellow the requirement the enemy will 1 hit kill you almost but progression is fun, the side quest stuff is fun too and varied, one criticism though is the skill tree is unnecessarily busy, one skills cost 1 skill point I see there are missions recommendating power level 120 there I'm assuming there are more than 120 skills to buy with skill points which seems very excessive but atleast the amount of weapons this time is streamlined and your not picking up pointless crap weaponswhich I do like. But overall I'm enjoying the game ?

This game is a improvement on Assassins Creed Odyssey The graphics are better I personally prefer the story The main character is excellent The improvements you can make to your longboat and settlement are more than just decorations They make a difference The problem is my game has crashed twice when I was jumping down to perform a wrist blade assassination It froze unacceptable Ubisoft patch it It should not have been released like this I payed £70 for a game with bugs annoying Giving it five stars because I know Ubisoft will fix this The raids can be annoying as you can be killed with one hit It's seems a cheap kill I don't like that My ancestors were vikings so this is a ideal game for meExcellent I played on Xbox One X and no slowdown

This is the best of the three recent "RPG" variants of Assassins Creed, the story feels like a love letter to old school AC fans and will definitely make you happy if you loved Ezio and Desmonds stories. The open world is competent, albeit repetitive and a bit bland. Origins Egypt had structures to marvel at and lush landscapes to take in and explore whilst Valhallas England only has a few of these, and every village felt like a copy and past so there isn't any real variety however far you explore. If you're a fan of the older AC games and are willing to put 70+ hours in to receive the full story then go for it, and if you want an open world viking hack and slash to sink in some time raiding and pillaging, then go for it too.

The Assassins Creed games get better and better, since origins these games have got so much better in terms of control and scale and things to do and explore, Valhalla is amazing, such a beautifully detailed open world to explore, they said this one is smaller than Odyssey but it don't feel like it. tons of side missions and hidden gold and treasures and secrets galore as usual to keep you busy for a long time, loving the Viking themed story, very good, full of great characters and plenty action and fights, battles and raids. the game is very graphic in violence, tasty bloodthirsty kills and executions and some sexy moments too. if your a fan of these games its a must get.I personally cant wait for the next one already.

Looking to dive into battlefield with brutal might or stealth around like true a assassin, then this is the game for you!Option of both male/female and can change within game if fancy a change. The styles of hair/beard and tattoos are good and really make them your own viking.Beautiful story and good length, plenty to do within the regions and making your own viking settlement what's not to love, and did I mention RAID! Raids work so well and are very fun and with the river raids update you got more to take on.I really enjoy Valhalla and some may say it's not a true assassin creed game but it is, it's still telling the story and expanding adding more to the line. So give it a go, am sure you'll love it,like I did.
